[hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update released

2010-10-22 Thread Ross Bemrose
Updates to Left 4 Dead 2 have been released. The updates will be applied
automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes
include:

Left 4 Dead 2
- Fixed versus servers sometimes shutting down before both teams have
fully connected

No post from Jason Ruymen about this one. I knew he wasn't announcing
the weekly mutation updates, but this seems like a rather important
server update...

This got me thinking - how hard would it for them to cross post the updates
on the Steam news site, and this mailing list? Then no matter what they'd
show up here.

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update released

2010-10-22 Thread ics
Left 4 Dead updates used to get posted into this list. That stopped
somewhere along the way before Left 4 Dead 2 was even officially
announced. Maybe someone told not to post them here anymore. Perhaps the
priority concerning those games changed. The testing time is over, they
don't really need us to run servers for those games or they think we run
only mods on them, which was/is the biggest grief on steampowered forums
and not for a stupid reason. Some people here just did something bad
that reflected badly against how the game should work. This is the
reason why the default setting was changed to official dedicated instead
of best available.

Now with Left 4 Dead 2, only upon release there was interaction between
us and Valve but nothing since. Only Chet (i seriously won't try to
spell his full name) from Valve is posting on L4DMappers list
occasionally. Priorities change and i take this as we are no longer
wanted to run servers for these games as we get no noticed either.
Someone from the nice-folks-that-play-with-steamy-piles correct me if i
am wrong.

Btw, 98% of the time there is an update, it is also required by the
servers too.

2010-06-12 Thread D3vilfish - Simiancage.org
After numerous servers appearing in our steam group a while back, I thought
sod them if valve won't fix it then you might as well join them hence we
list a string of id's for steamgroups.
Valve could fix this with a simple code/password added to the steamgroup
edit page(that only the admin can see and not published to the public) and
games server config, as long as the 2 match then the server will be listed
in that steamgroup ingame.

Sourceop do a similar validation with their steamids for tf2items.

We have already been over this. Anyone can find the group ID. People
have found L4D2's game group ID and added it to every player in that

there will be 20 servers before the ones you want to see.

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2010-06-12 Thread ics
I see bunch of servers within my game too. Someone might think that it's
a good thing because you have lots of servers to choose from. Sadly
majority of them are running some mods which i do not want to see, like
stats ingame for particular servers, some custom laser aims, more
healthpacks and assisted gaming of some sort or insane playercounts.
They also might run like crap.

Better thing would be to allow only servers within certain IP-addresses
to belong to the steamgroup. Those could be set on the steamgroup page
by the owner. This way no one could cheat and take a look at server
config. As far as i know, sv_steamgroup is public cvar if query is made
on the server because it needs to be public.

Another option would be to introduce blacklist to servers in L4D2 and in
L4D if this change goes to there too. Just like there is with TF2. You
could just blacklist the servers so you won't see the steamgroup ones
that you don't want to and accidentally go play on them.

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2010-06-12 Thread Allan Button
The authoriztive place to edit your steam group is in the steam group
admin area. I don't see any reason why servers can be added outside of
this tool.

If I where to design this, you'd add servers from the steam group
admin area. Either complex using 1 textfield per server, or just
having a textarea with 1 server per line.

I can not change somebody elses steam group name, because I am not an
admin. Why should I be able to create fake clan servers and join them
to that steam group.

Could you imagin if you set up your windows domain policy to be nice
and secure, then anybody could bring a laptop in an join it just
because they know you domain name?

Not only is this anoying for server ops, it seems like a pretty big
hole in steam security.

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2010-06-11 Thread DontWannaName!
We have already been over this. Anyone can find the group ID. People
have found L4D2's game group ID and added it to every player in that
groups sees their servers. It almost makes the feature useless since
there will be 20 servers before the ones you want to see.

If so, is there any kind of protection against people putting the ID of
groups that they shouldn't? If not, just ignore me as usual :P

 SNIP
Server operators can set their server to be in multiple Steam groups by
separating the id for each group by a comma.

Uh, what?

I think you'll find it's the plugins that need to be compatible with the
game, not the other way around.

That being said, there's half an argument for letting the metamod folks have
early access to patches so they can have everything primed and ready to go,
but that sounds like the kind of thing that in practice would cause issues.

Please don't get me started.

The majority of admins on this list make it out like VALVe seem to owe
Metamod a favour and that Metamod developers specifically (not any other
plugin developers, they're obviously irrelevant) have some kind of special
right that they must have game binaries. Just because it's the most popular
plugin doesn't mean VALVe should shape their updates around it. It's
SourceMod's fault for relying on virtual offsets, signatures, etc. Notice
how EventScripts doesn't have these issues.

For the record, I am not against the SourceMod team whatsoever.

Thanks,

You are probably not setting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH to point at the bin directory

[hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2009-12-09 Thread Andrew Armstrong
Hey all,

Just an FYI there was a L4D2 update released a short while ago which appears
to have a server update too, I didn't see it announced:

http://store.steampowered.com/news/3217/

Left 4 Dead 2

* Changed rules for ghost placement in Scavenge Mode

* Player controlled Special Infected are no longer forced to un-crouch
and lock strafe when they crouch attack

* Spitter spit that damages players on a moving elevator will now fizzle
quickly

* Allow the survivor and infected to rotate the camera yaw while being
attacked by a Charger or Smoker

* Smoker that has dragged a survivor to the end now gets the same
cinematic flashlight as the Hunter and Charger

* Fixed a crash in physics

* Updated the Charger's hit boxes

* Updated the Jockey's hit boxes

* Updated the Spitter's hit boxes

* Fixed player health on being revived after a Charger slam over a high
ledge

* Fixed versus scores not resetting after a vote to change campaigns

* Fixed being able to use defibrillator on dead players who were far
above or below you

* Fixed pink glow on dead survivors

* Fixed being able to hold crouch while incapped to get better weapon
accuracy

* Fixed players pushing against some props causing them to accumulate
downward velocity and then take falling damage when they let go of the
forward key

* Fixed a case where an incapped survivor inside a rescue vehicle would
trigger both the escape sequence and a round restart

* Fixed the helping hand from getting stuck when extended

Seems to be very special. Erazed a total of 45 hours 52 mins of playing
time, 32 achieved achievements and resetted all stats from me. Special
indeed. Lost interest to this game completely this morning when i found
that out.

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2009-11-21 Thread Chris Boot
Jason,

What I'd really like to know is when achievements will be fixed. It
appears most of the members in my Steam group have their achievements
regularly wiped off Steam Community (though they remain in game) and we
have to earn them all over again almost on a daily basis. It's a bit
demoralising when you get some of the more challenging ones like
Guardin' Gnome or Bridge Burner...

Cheers,
Chris

Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released

2009-11-21 Thread Brent Veal
I had all my achievements wiped out yesterday, but they all reappeared in
the first game I played after this update. Could be a complete coincidence
though.

In response to Craig McLure,
I had -autoupdate in my startup script and it started downloading the demo
content, once I took it out, it stop downloading it.
