This got me thinking - how hard would it for them to cross post the updates on the Steam news site, and this mailing list? Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update released
Left 4 Dead updates used to get posted into this list. That stopped somewhere along the way before Left 4 Dead 2 was even officially announced. Maybe someone told not to post them here anymore. Perhaps the priority concerning those games changed. The testing time is over, they don't really need us to run servers for those games or they think we run only mods on them, which was/is the biggest grief on steampowered forums and not for a stupid reason. Some people here just did something bad that reflected badly against how the game should work. This is the reason why the default setting was changed to official dedicated instead of best available. Now with Left 4 Dead 2, only upon release there was interaction between us and Valve but nothing since. Only Chet (i seriously won't try to spell his full name) from Valve is posting on L4DMappers list occasionally. Priorities change and i take this as we are no longer wanted to run servers for these games as we get no noticed either. Someone from the nice-folks-that-play-with-steamy-piles correct me if i am wrong. Btw, 98% of the time there is an update, it is also required by the servers too. -ics 23.10.2010 3:33, DontWannaName! kirjoitti: They change the updates post here to reflect server needs such as required or optional. After numerous servers appearing in our steam group a while back, I thought sod them if valve won't fix it then you might as well join them hence we list a string of id's for steamgroups. Valve could fix this with a simple code/password added to the steamgroup edit page(that only the admin can see and not published to the public) and games server config, as long as the 2 match then the server will be listed in that steamgroup ingame. Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released
I see bunch of servers within my game too. Someone might think that it's a good thing because you have lots of servers to choose from. Sadly majority of them are running some mods which i do not want to see, like stats ingame for particular servers, some custom laser aims, more healthpacks and assisted gaming of some sort or insane playercounts. They also might run like crap. Better thing would be to allow only servers within certain IP-addresses to belong to the steamgroup. Those could be set on the steamgroup page by the owner. This way no one could cheat and take a look at server config. As far as i know, sv_steamgroup is public cvar if query is made on the server because it needs to be public. Another option would be to introduce blacklist to servers in L4D2 and in L4D if this change goes to there too. Just like there is with TF2. You could just blacklist the servers so you won't see the steamgroup ones that you don't want to and accidentally go play on them. -ics 12.6.2010 10:43, D3vilfish - Simiancage.org kirjoitti: After numerous servers appearing in our steam group a while back, I thought sod them if valve won't fix it then you might as well join them hence we list a string of id's for steamgroups. Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released
The authoriztive place to edit your steam group is in the steam group admin area. I don't see any reason why servers can be added outside of this tool. If I where to design this, you'd add servers from the steam group admin area. Either complex using 1 textfield per server, or just having a textarea with 1 server per line. I can not change somebody elses steam group name, because I am not an admin. Why should I be able to create fake clan servers and join them to that steam group. Could you imagin if you set up your windows domain policy to be nice and secure, then anybody could bring a laptop in an join it just because they know you domain name? Not only is this anoying for server ops, it seems like a pretty big hole in steam security. Sent from my mobile. Guys, really, why do release the update, if you did not even test it with the most popular plugin??? Uh, what? I think you'll find it's the plugins that need to be compatible with the game, not the other way around. That being said, there's half an argument for letting the metamod folks have early access to patches so they can have everything primed and ready to go, but that sounds like the kind of thing that in practice would cause issues. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds_linux

Please don't get me started. The majority of admins on this list make it out like VALVe seem to owe Metamod a favour and that Metamod developers specifically (not any other plugin developers, they're obviously irrelevant) have some kind of special right that they must have game binaries. Just because it's the most popular plugin doesn't mean VALVe should shape their updates around it. It's SourceMod's fault for relying on virtual offsets, signatures, etc. Notice how EventScripts doesn't have these issues. For the record, I am not against the SourceMod team whatsoever. Re: [hlds_linux] Left 4 Dead 2 Update Released
Jason, What I'd really like to know is when achievements will be fixed. It appears most of the members in my Steam group have their achievements regularly wiped off Steam Community (though they remain in game) and we have to earn them all over again almost on a daily basis. It's a bit demoralising when you get some of the more challenging ones like Guardin' Gnome or Bridge Burner... Cheers, Chris Jason Ruymen wrote: A required update for Left 4 Dead 2 is now available. I had all my achievements wiped out yesterday, but they all reappeared in the first game I played after this update. Could be a complete coincidence though.
