Samson,

It is so sad that you have decided not to second the motion to support an
XO build that includes the Yoruba and Igbo translations.

After US$ 4,000, almost a year that translations were completed, and an
extensive list of voluntary hours invested from many members of the
community, such translations have reached 0 learners! please explain openly.

I hope this is not the story you plan to share with other communities as it
will make SL community sound like a group of crazy people.

The objective of the motion is to define if it is worth to rescue all the

Labs on Samson's and Ibiam's line of work.

The argument to approve such translation in the first place was to outreach
+2,000 XO learners in their native languages and therefore a SOAS build is
a nice idea but won't help us finish the job.

The PO files have been committed to the relevant repos and as new
Activity releases have been made (thanks Quozl for your recent
Fructose push) they have been made available via ASLO.  It is true
that a build of the core UI strings would be needed, but I thought
that might come via a new SOAS release.

Are you proposing a custom build for Nigeria?

If so, I would request that OLPC switch desktop PO file for Igbo be
completed before such an attempt was made.

I have been speaking to Samson about trying to organize further
volunteer efforts in Yoruba and Igbo and if an early-stage image build
would truly help kickstart that volunteer effort, then I think it
could be useful.  If a custom image is being made, we'll need to touch
base on a few things (some confusion about glibc locale name for Igbo,
ig versus ibo), which are relatively easily worked around if taken
into account early in the process. I'd encourage an image that carried
Virtaal on the GNU boot to help out with L10n efforts.

Hi all,

Thanks laura for bringing this up. I have working on bringing sugar to
Nigeria schools, because the people that use Sugar currently are just the
xo-1 users.

As i told Chris Leonard last time when he reach me about getting
translators. I am working on getting a group of developers in Port Harcourt
and also translators. These people are eager to contribute to open source,
which is good because of project like Google Summer of Code.

I was thinking about doing something like "Sugar Labs summit" in Nigeria to
connect to all these category of people mentioned. But funds is a problem,
i have been trying to reach out to local sponsors. But definitely Scratch
Conference in Bordeaux will become more productive if i connect to sponsors
for workshops.

+1, i am very support of this. I have been trying to work something out. At
least, i and walter are planning a workshop in Nigeria, which will serve as
introducing sugar to new schools. And also help create a small deployment
to help support the schools with xos(2,000 machines).
