Ini adalah statement dari mantan Vice President Al Gore (wakilnya Bill Clinton).
Judul statement ialah:

USING OUR SCIENCE FOR THE BENEFIT OF HUMANITY

Inti pennyataannya ialah Kepedulian terhadap kehidupan. Salah satu ucapannya 
ialah: Recent natural disasters also remind us of our responibility to 
communicate the best scientific understanding of these phenomena to those who 
can act on that knowledge to save lives and property. In addtion to natural 
disasters, our science underpins some of the most important issues facing 
society today: environmental quality , climate change, and natural resource 
management. Wihout our input, policy-makers may make decisions based solely on 
other factors - such as economics, politics, or social impacts - or may even 
confuse pseudoscience for real science. 
Dia menganjurkan agar ilmuwan juga ikut dalam proses pembangunan politik pada 
tingkat nasional atau lokal. Bagaimana dengan kita? Mungkin kita telah terjun 
ke kegiatan tersebut, tetapi masih sporadis dan belum atau tidak sistematis. 
Tempo hari ada satu kelompok dari IAGI terjun ke desa (selatan Malang?). Saya 
kira ini sudah bagus. Perlu diintensifkan dengan bicara di kelurahan, sekolah 
dasar, bicara dengan para guru. Bukannya guru supaya datang di kota (Jakarta, 
Bandung, dsb.). Tetapi kita yang datang  ke mereka. Jelaskan bagaimana sains 
dapat berguna bagi manusia. Sekian. Ini hanya mengingatkan kita untuk lebih 
bersosialisasi.

Barangkali sudah membaca tulisan ini di EOS ya. Bagi yang belum bersama ini 
saya kutip pendahuluannya.

Judul:DOES THE CORE LEAKS?
Appreciable geophysical evidence has accumulated to suggest that some slabs 
subduct into the Earth's deep mantle and that certain mantle plumes originate 
in the lower mantle. Despite this progess in understanding geophysical 
geodynamics, debate continues on corroborating geochemical evidence. If some 
plumes rise from the core-mantle boundary and there is chemical interaction 
between the core and the mantle, it is possible that such plumes could contain 
a uninique fingerprint that is characteristic of the core.
Unequivocal identification of a core component in a plume-derived rock could 
potentially settle major questions in geodynamics. This article reviews 
geochemical tools that would likely be sensitive to such interactions, and 
considers possible mechanistic causes for core-mantle interaction. 

Untuk selanjutnya baca tulisan lengkapnya, kalau ada waktu tentunya. Pernah 
mempunyai batuan berasal dari plume nggak?.  Kalau ada perlu diteliti. Ini 
sekedar selingan ilmiah bagi geophysicists, geochemists, petrologists dan 
volcanologists dan pasti para pakar geodynamika.
