Re: Changing NSINTERADDR dynamically - URGENT
Chris thanks for that but I am getting some strange ouput when I am displaying the resolver stat F RESOLVER,DISPLAY EZZ9298I DEFAULTTCPIPDATA - None EZZ9298I GLOBALTCPIPDATA - None EZZ9298I DEFAULTIPNODES - None EZZ9298I GLOBALIPNODES - None EZZ9304I NOCOMMONSEARCH EZZ9293I DISPLAY COMMAND PROCESSED The GLOBALTCPIPDATA is not at all mentioning the SYS1.TCPPARMS(TCPDATA) member. How do I know which all DNS Servers I am using and where is is mentioned .. JAcky On Tue, Oct 14, 2008 at 5:21 PM, Chris Mason [EMAIL PROTECTED]wrote: Jacky If you go to the description of the NSINTERADDR statement in the IP Configuration Reference, as with most statements, you will find a section Steps for modifying. However, unlike most of the statements in the manual with which I am familiar, the information here is just pathetic! All it does is point you to the MODIFY command in the IP System Administrator's Commands manual. It really should have gone the extra centimetre and mentioned that the particular flavour of MODIFY was MODIFY command— Resolver address space since not everyone will know that all these TCPIP.DATA statements fall under a topic called Resolver. Under MODIFY command—Resolver address space you will find the command John suggested described. John has a locally created RESOLVER started task procedure so he can start it with the S RESOLVER command. In case you do not have a locally created RESOLVER started task procedure, you can still stop and start the provided RESOLVER started task. You stop it with the P RESOLVER command, just as John again mentioned, but it all gets a bit subtle when you need to start it again. The command you need is START IEESYSAS.RESOLVER,PROG=EZBREINI,SUB=MSTR Not so very obvious is it? The reason for this command is twofold: 1. You are using only default values for the resolver configuration file so no configuration file DD-statement is needed and, when no DD-statement is needed, the only logical statement which is needed in the started task procedure is // EXEC PGM=EZBREINI 2. z/OS - not Communications Server - very kindly provides a generalised started task procedure with the name IEESYSAS which I think does absolutely nothing - have a look at it, I can't - except to enable some tricks permitted by JCL, one of which is to override the value of the PGM operand and another is the ability to change the procedure name - thereby frustrating some who have searched their procedure libraries in vain for a member named RESOLVER! This subtlety is described in the IP Configuration Guide under Managing the resolver address space. Re: Space problem
Karl, If you download DAF (Dataset Audit Facility) from CBTTAPE.org, you will find out exactly what is happenning to your file. Without knowing more about your shop, we would just be speculating. Looks like the file is initially allocated to an overflow volume which is subsequently cleared of data without regard to source space allocations. End of speculation. Re: Acessing LDAP data on other servers from z/OS
Hi Andy, there are C and Java based samples on the web, which can be used to create a Module or Java class that runs on z/OS and connects to LDAP on other plattform. No LDAP Server on z/OS and RACF is required for this, because you simply have LDAP client code running on z/OS. You can then call the module or execute the Java class from your existing applications, Java might require a wrapper module depending on your runtime environment and compilers you have available. Hello Andy, z/OS comes with an LDAP client which is of course hidden in the unix system services :-) If you enter the command 'ldapsearch from the shell without parameters it gives you some syntax synopsis ... probably the last lines are the most important ones: Refer to IBM Tivoli Directory Server Client Programming for z/OS, Document Num ber: SA23-2214, for complete documentation (this is on z/OS 1.9) But since ldapsearch is something like a standard in the world, google could be your friend as well to learn the (for me) strange looking LDAP query language ... Re: Changing NSINTERADDR dynamically - URGENT
Jacky With the introduction of the resolver function a few releases back, you got a new configuration data set called the resolver setup data set. It is the only data set which is used directly by the resolver procedure and, as I indicated before, it is optional since you can accept all the default values. The statements in this data set, even by default, refer in turn to the TCPIP.DATA [1] data set and the means by which you have defined it. Fear not, the new specifications you have entered into your TCPIP.DATA set are now in effect. The process of refreshing the resolver procedure causes the TCPIP.DATA data set to be revisited. The description under MODIFY commandResolver address space in the IP System Administrators Commands manual specifically assures us that the TCPIP.data information is refreshed. I tried to see if there was a command in the IP System Administrators Commands which showed the current NSINTERADDR statement specifications - and failed! I do know that, when you use the NSLOOKUP command, you are told the name server - or, I believe, name servers - which are referenced in order to resolve the query. I also know that you get typically far more information than you thought you needed when you slip the TRACE RESOLVER statement into your TCPIP.DATA data set. As this is the first time you have encountered the revised resolver function, you have some reading to do. You should start with the section Understanding resolvers in Chapter 2, Configuration overview in the IP Configuration Guide manual. You will need a quick visit to the UNIX System Services Planning manual in order to find out precisely how to get your own RESOLVER procedure which will enable you to specify your own resolver setup statements, the ones you find so confusing! Of course, as usual, you will find details about the statements in the IP Configuration Reference manual - just before the TCPIP.DATA statements are explained. [1] You are probably aware that the TCPIP.DATA data set can be specified in a number of ways, including as SYS1.TCPPARMS(TCPDATA). The way to refer to the data set generically is to use the original name used by TCP/IP for VM, the product from which CP/IP for MVS was derived which, in turn became the Communications Server IP component. However, unlike most of the statements in the manual with which I am familiar, the information here is just pathetic! All it does is point you to the MODIFY command in the IP System Administrator's Commands manual. It really should have gone the extra centimetre and mentioned that the particular flavour of MODIFY was MODIFY command Resolver address space since not everyone will know that all these TCPIP.DATA statements fall under a topic called Resolver. Under MODIFY commandResolver address space you will find the command John suggested described. This subtlety is described in the IP

Re: Capture Job information fom spool
Rajeev, In addition to SDSF, as others have mentioned, you could write your own application / Clist / REXX Exec using either the standard external SYSOUT writer procedure or the TSO OUTPUT command. On the other hand, if you have money to spend, you can also look for software to buy. There are applications out there on the market that have already invented that wheel for you. These applications generally are called SYSOUT Archivers. Products from Companies like CA or MacKinney Systems come to mind, but there are a few others, too. And a search of the CBTTAPE might also locate something you could use. Tiered storage and FATA drives
At my company, we are looking at FATA drives to put our HSM ML1 (1 year period) data on it . Does someone have some experience doeing this ? Today we do not use ML1 and write directly to ML2 , NATIVE tapedrives from SUN/STK. Current drives are fast enough to do the HSM migrate and recall work. But we are running out of slots in the robot and want to replace current tapedrives with new K1000 drives from SUN/STK. This drives can write much more data to tape (capacity drives), but are also slower . We also want to eliminate the native drives for HSM work because HSM can not put enough work on the drives due to its 16K blocksize limitation (IBM has no plans to change this in the nearby future). So ... we are investigating FATA and you ? -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
RES: ADRDSSU Question
Hi Sergio, ADRDSSU itself does not do that. To do what you want using ADRDSSU you have to create a program that calls ADRDSSU, and this program must handle the information. You can use UIM of DFSMSdfp to obtaim the information from ADRDSSU and manipulate some control blocks to discover the external dataset name. Write these information to a repository (VSAM) so every dataset backed up with your front end ADRDSSU will be stored associated with the external dataset name. If you want to be fancy, you can create na ISPF interface to restore any dataset automatically. We are looking hard at this. Based on the number of servers we have to be consolidated, there are significant potential savings available. We are at the POC stage. I.E. The financials have been reviewed and look promising. IBM is willing to make IFLs and z/VM avail on a trial basis at no charge for evaluation purposes (90 days IIRC). Contact your IBM rep for details. While I have no personal experience with actual deployment at this time, I know of some respected individuals at other companies that have performed at least a partial consolidation and are extremely happy with the results. Re: question about Oracle on the mainframe
PMFJI here, but one crucial misunderstanding you may have -- z/Linux does *not* run under z/OS. z/Linux runs in its own virtual machine under z/VM (or on a bare LPAR), z/OS runs in its own separate LPAR (though you *can* run z/OS in a virtual machine under z/VM, you probably wouldn't want to for performance reasons). IOW, Oracle will run in a separate z/Linux under z/VM in the LPAR that z/VM runs on (can be on an IFL). You will still need communications between the Oracle under z/Linux and your z/OS applications just as you do today, but the communications can be internal to the CEC instead of over an external network. Re: question about Oracle on the mainframe
Yes, Oracle 10g is the last release that will run under z/OS on a mainframe. We just recently upgraded to v10.2.0.3.0 and are running it under z/OS v1.9. Oracle v10.2 is the terminal release for z/OS and premier support for it ends in July 2012, although extended support after that indefinitely for a price. If you ever want to go to v11, it can't be done on the mainframe unless you run it, as others have mentioned, under a z/linux-z/VM partition (which I'm hoping we'll get to try out sometime). Re: Simple VTAM-Question?
Michael I think you need the MODIFY TABLE command. Something like F net,TABLE,OPTION=LOAD,NEWTAB=new_name I am assuming you have revised the table so that it has the same name as it did previously. Note that, as always for a MODIFY command, you need to use the name of the started task procedure, in this case the VTAM started task procedure which not all installations call NET. Here are a couple of extracts from the MODIFY TABLE command text in the SNA Operations manual: quote Load a table to replace an existing table (other than a filter table): MODIFY procname,TABLE,OPTION=LOAD,NEWTAB=new_table_name (,OLDTAB=old_table_name) /quote quote - F TABLE,OPT=LOAD Allows you to replace old_table_name, which is in use, with new_table_name, which is currently not in use, or to reload a table that is in use. All resources currently associated with the old table are re-associated with the new table. Note: If old_table_name is the current value of the DYNMODTB start option, the value of the DYNMODTB start option is changed to new_table_name. If OLDTAB is omitted, it is assumed to be the same as NEWTAB. /quote You need to refresh the library lookaside (LLA) address space for modules other than modules from partitioned data sets in the VTAMLIB concatenation. The MODIFY command to which I pointed you above suffices. As far as the Unformatted System Services (USS - used correctly, of course!) module used by the TN3270 address space is concerned, I'm afraid I can't find any particular description of how that can be replaced. I suspect that you need to issue a VARY TCPIP,tn3270proc,OBEYFILE command against the TN3270 PROFILE - at least the BEGINVTAM/ENDVTAM block - in order to have the TN3270 server refresh a load module referenced by the USSTCP parameter. I hope someone who knows for sure can confirm or correct this guess. Well, welcome to a path to becoming a VTAM specialist. There are fewer and fewer these days. Thank you - guess it is a simple question for VTAM-Guys but I'm pretty new in this area Bye, Michael -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Re: Tiered storage and FATA drives
On 15 Oct 2008 11:16:39 -0700, in bit.listserv.ibm-main you wrote: At my company, we are looking at FATA drives to put our HSM ML1 (1 year period) data on it . Given that many disk files have block sizes larger than 16K, could you elaborate on what the 16K blocksize limitation is? -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
Health Checker routine
Has anyone written a HC routine (hopefully in SYSREXX) to monitor a specific job/stc CPU percentage use. Perhaps set a threshold and send a message to the console when the threshold is met? Thus if IEASYS00 has 7 parms supplied and I request the use of IEASYS05 (which has one parm which is also listed in IEASYS00 but with a different suffix) the final set of parms are the 6 non-overridden IEASYS00 suffixes and the one suffix from IEASYS05. -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html

Re: MSU in z10
Ted MacNeil writes: It's not approx -- it is 90% In fairness to Radoslaw, approximately is fair to say, at least due to rounding errors at specific capacity points. (MSU values are whole numbers.) But there is an underlying mathematical exactness, so Ted is correct, too. :-) As for the impact of Technology Dividend(s) in your particular situation, that varies. - - - - - Timothy Sipples IBM Consulting Enterprise Software Architect Based in Tokyo, Serving IBM Japan / Asia-Pacific E-Mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
