 Can do.

Thanks, much appreciated.

There isn't much there that applies to a group as a whole -- it's
mostly what individuals can do to encourage women to feel comfortable
and participate. Apart from the ``Keep meeting is an accessible
location'', there's nothing there that the LUG as a whole can do.

The attitude of the individual members of the group will make a
difference. Anyway, whether as individuals, or as a group- if those
suggestions were followed- they would go a long way. And to begin with,
if more people would read the HOW TO, it would help.

Move on is exactly what women are doing, and they don't seem any worse
for it. Remember that we're having this discussion because someone asked
specifically why women don't participate in LUG activities.

Start turning up for meetings. Things will change automagically.

Who cares? It's easier to just not turn up for the meetings at all. I've
been doing that for years, and it's worked perfectly for me.

(Oh, and please disabuse yourself of the notion that only women are put

What joke? I see only yet another attempt to trivialise a document you

It's much more pathetic than offensive.

You've been given multiple, highly-specific answers about what exactly
it is that discourages women from participating in discussion. So far,
apart from your attempt to make fun of them, there is no evidence that
you have tried very hard to fathom anything.

Might I suggest a remedial reading comprehension course?

There was one girl, whom I knew, was interested in Linux, and was very

What more does one need to do? Fall on our knees and beg to the

than having special interest groups and movements, etc. etc.

A LUG meet is not a godforsaken place where they're opressed, beaten
up, harassed, sexually assaulted, etc. etc. Why the special treatment
there? Just organize meets at earthly hours and places, so that
females can make it (Delhi is not a nice place to go back late in the

So here is the list of resources I know of
1) docs.python.org
Python is well documented. The library guide is something you can print

2) Read Source code. Python code is most readable of all programming
languages. Possible candidates
Zope
mailman
redhat-admin scripts.

3) For RAD one can try out twisted. Network programming cannot get
easier than this.

4) __doc__ is your friend if you do python programming. Just do __doc__
against any function you want to get details of and you will get a
printable help. Python has a large self documented library.

O'rielly books are good starting point. If you keep one under you
pillow, you might get some back pain, but nothing which cannot be
resolved with the amount of money you will make after reading this book.

5)Take a look at blender for learning how to write glue code

6) psycopg for connecting to PG.

The project is : -

i am going to have an online database of the problems with the
solutions of different services running on linux based servers
like
CVS, APACHE , SENDMAIL (OR ANY MAIL SERVER), IPTABLES etc.

If a user faced a certain problem and got the exact solution for
that
he can just come to the website and will register there and can
put
the problems with solution so if somebody else will face the
same
problem he will have quick help on that. There will be a
searchable
index of different services from where one can find the
solutions.

it will be good for the ppl who are doing administration of
linux
servers and facing problems on day to day basis.

I faced lots of problems while working with the servers and the
services so i will put the problems with the solutions soon,
same i
want from you guys to put on but first i will like to know what
you
ppl think about this and the ppl who wants to contribute can
email me

i will put the domain up in couple of days so pls start sending

data which i can put into my databse.
Please do email me the suggestions also

Hope to see some replies from you guys

you'll get a big database of questions and answers, Including, How to

Its like asking people who have failed a exam, what is the trick to pass

I do not know why you would want to do this, a good search engine is all
you need. Luckily for me I know how to use two.

Actually, I have found that mailing-list archives are very helpful in
solving a problem, many a times the question is not fully answered but
the conversation gives you a fair idea of where to start poking.

Reminds me of a story, a guy has a bike and one fine day the bike starts
making funny noises. So he takes it to this mechanic chap, this dude is
an old guy. He takes a wrench and hits it on the engine. The noise
stops. He asks 500 bucks for the job. But all you did was hit it with a
wrench protests the young dude. Yes replies the old man, The 500
bucks is for knowing where to hit. Not the hitting.

Twisted is not a RAD. it is just networking application framework(from what I

For a RAD, take a look at either wxglade/wxpython or glade/pygtk.

swaroop's Byte of Python is another free python tutorial.

Use the Python doc bundle of Thoutreader. All the docs at your fingertips.
