Re: Useful threads are disappearing!

2009-09-15 Thread xiaoyu48

Merciadri Luca luca.mercia...@student.ulg.ac.be writes:

 Hello,

Especially when creating a new thread and, day after day, answering to
users' messages on my thread, there is sometimes one day or another
where my (recent) thread completely disappears from my Gnus thread
 list.
Why it disappeared? Have you put them into cache?
You can cache a useful artical by pressing '*' mark on it if you have set
(setq gnus-use-cache 'passive)

By Gnus thread list, I want to speak about the list of threads which
is fetched from my Usenet gateway server.

I do not understand why, and it seems to be done by Gnus, as my server
 still has these threads.

Any solution? Maybe a score problem? However, I never use Gnus'
 scoring.

 Thanks.

I simply do not know. What do you mean? That putting them into cache
deletes them from the locally fetched list of threads? If so, where
does Gnus put them?

Okay. What is the interest of caching, here? Thanks.

What happens when you do C-u 100 /o (pull a 100 articles back into
view) for example in a group with missing threads. Are you sure they
are not just hidden as they are read?

The threads which I qualify as missing are fetched, and
displayed. Everything is as I want. Why do I have to type this to make
it work? Can't Gnus always do this?
 Are you sure they
are not just hidden as they are read?
Maybe. I suggest you to give me a conclusion regarding the fact that
C-u 100 /o fetches mails as I want, if possible.

I'm sorry, I dont understand. The command I gave makes read or down
scored threads visible. Its just to see if the threads you can not
normally see are actually there : are they there after this command? Can
you see the posts?

I think you are saying the command I gave makes your posts visible? If
yes, then do you have scoring turned on? Then I'm not much help as you
need a degree/PhD in Gnus to understand scoring :-(). It's a read
manual moment.

Yes. When typing this command, my previously-disappeared posts are
visible. That is what I want, but I find it weird.

Yes. I can be unclear. Sorry!

I don't think so. Where can I check it?

I understand. I do not specially expect to PhD in Gnus scoring (eh),
but I simply want scoring to be disabled, if scoring is the only thing
which can make my posts disappearing.

It can be many things, possibly your article counts are wrong. I can't
really help there I'm afraid but we have learnt one thing : Gnus *has*
got the articles. Its just that Gnus thinks you dont want to see
them. You could try resetting the group?

Unfortunately, I had already tried. I will now try:
(setq gnus-use-scoring nil)

Hope it will work.

It seems to work in every group, for threads, but not for the
subthreads, i.e. the messages in the threads. Strange.
