Wikipedia:

Samizdat (self-published, in Russian ñàìèçäàò) was a
system in the Soviet-bloc countries wherein people
clandestinely printed and distributed
government-suppressed literature. Key to the technique
was that copies were made a few at a time, and anyone
who had a copy and any sort of copying equipment was
encouraged to make more copies. The techniques used
varied from semi-professional printing machines to
groups of people copying the text by hand.
A rough translation would be something along the lines
of Passing on or Giving it amongst yourselves.
Essentially, the samizdat copy of the text, such as
Mikhail Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita, were
passed from one person to another.
Etymology (Russian): ñàì (self) + èçäà(âà)òü (to
publish).

The amazing thing is that the Muslim community in Oz
dares to demand an explanation of a person it

On these facts (below), it is the Muslim community
that must explain itself for its shameful misconduct

[IslamCity] Ustadh Abdullah responds to questions about awrah of women!

2005-02-18 Thread k_m256

As-Salaamu-Alaikum

Is the voice of the woman apart of their awrah? Ustadh Abdullah bin
Hamid Ali provides a detail explanation of this issue! For more
interesting articles by Ustadh Abdullah and other Islamic scholars
please visit our website:

http://lamppostproductions.org

Was-Salaam

Question:
As far as I have read, it is known that it is haram
for men to listen to women's voices other than out of
neccessity (stated in both the Shafi and Maliki
madhab). In addition, it is haram to look into the
face of a women except when required of testimony,
business transaction, or when someone is courting her
for marriage (in general for the Shafi madhab, and
young attractive women in the Maliki madhab. And they
generally wouldn't be on television is they weren't
attractive). Therefore it seems this alone would
render television haram. Another point, in a recent
article the writer mention nudity as another reason
making television haram. What wasn't pointed out was
the fact that the criteria for nudity in Islam is
different from the criteria of the west. From what I
understand, for a women to appear in front of
non-mahram men with her hair uncovered, her bare arms,
her neck, stomach, or any part of her leg showing is
all haram and a form of nudity.

My question is based on this statement from a Mufti who stated:

The female voice, according to Islam, is also included in the
category of satar, i.e. it has to be concealed and not revealed.
Since the female voice is satar it is not permissible for males to
listen to women singing or even reciting the Holy Qur'aan. Does he
mean female singing/reciting voice because the female voice is
permissible to listen to.

If this were true, then nobody would have learnt from `aisha rd. and
the other wives, female companions and the numerous `alimat and
muhaddithat (may allah be pleased with them all) in muslim history.

The Mufti goes on to say:

It is categorically Haraam – and it is Haraam without any
difference of opinion – to listen on a gramophone to such a
voice, the listening to which is Haraam in the real state. For
example – singing of women even without music, and singing of men
with music.

Please comment on these points!

Ustadh Abdullah's response:

as salaamu 'alaikum,

I think the Mufti was probably making a specific reference to
publicly listening to women singing. So when he said that there is
no difference of opinion about it being haram, it was likely a
reference to this.

As for a woman's voice being part of here awrah (nakedness or what
none can look at but those haram to marry her) - or as some
say 'satar' - this is clearly a matter of disagreement. This is a
weak opinion held by some scholars in the Maliki school. Ibn Abi
Zaid mentions in the Risalah, And as for the woman, she is to be
lower than the man in audibleness (Hashiyat Al-'Adawi: vol. 1 p.
290 Bab fi sifatil-amal fi al-salat). Sheikh 'Ali Abul-Hasan
says, ...And the basis of what has been mentioned is that her voice
is 'awrah (nakedness) and perhaps even temptation. (ibid: p. 291).

As for Sheikh Al-'Adawi in his supercommentary he states, And it
has been debated that if it were 'awrah, then hadiths wouldn't have
been heard from the Prophet's wives - may Allah bless and grant him
peace - or other than them while it is forbidden to converse with
marriageable women without necessity.

Abu Bakr Al-Jassass Al-Hanafi says the following in Ahkamul-Qur'an
(vol. 3: p. 528-529) while commenting on Allah's address to the
Prophet's wives (pbuh) in Surat Al-Ahzab:32, ((And do not be soft in
speech, lest he in whose heart is disease should covet, but speak
with appropriate speech.)) It has been said about it 'Do not soften
speech to men in a manner that brings about the desire for them (i.e
the Prophet's wives) from the men of misgivings. And in it is the
indication that it is the ruling for the remainder of women with
regard to the prohibition against softening the voice for men in a
manner that produces the desire for them and is used as evidence of
their (i.e. women) desire for them (i.e. men). The indication is
also that it is better for a woman not to raise her voice to the
point that men can hear her. In it is also the indication that the
woman is forbidden from calling the adhan. Likewise, our comrades
have said. Allah - High is He - also said in another verse: ((And
let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of
their adornment)) {Nur: 31} So if it is forbidden to make one hear
the sound of her anklets, then her speech - if she is a young
attractive woman (shabbah) from whom temptation is feared - is more
deserving of the prohibition.

And notice that his disapproval is of a woman raising her voice to
be noticed or speaking in a flirtatious manner, not merely her
voice.

Qadi Abu Bakr ibn Al-'Arabi Al-Maliki says in Ahkam Al-Qur'an (vol.
3, p. 389) commenting on the aforementioned verse from Surat Al-Nur:
31, The woman used to stamp her feet to make heared the clanking of
her

Who Killed Rafiq
Al-Hariri?

http://www.aljazeerah.info/16%20o/Who%20Killed%20Rafiq%20Al-Hariri%20By%20Sam%20Hamod.htm
By Sam Hamod - Al-Jazeerah, February 16, 2005

"This is the work of an
intelligence service, not a small group," said Rime Allaf, Middle East analyst
at London's Royal Institute of International Affairs.
We must do as they do in
other criminal cases, look at who had the most to gain from the assassination of
Prime Minister Hariri. The Lebanese had a lot to lose, as did the Syrians (he
was close to Bashar Al Assad, the leader of Syria), as did the other Arab
countries in the region who saw him as a strong leader and a stabilizing force
in Lebanese politics. On the other hand, Israel has wanted chaos in Lebanon, as
has America, and both countries have been agitating to get Hezbollah outlawed
and both America and Israel have wanted the Lebanese to oust Syria. In both
cases, the Lebanese government has said, “NO,” that Hezbollah is a respected
part of Lebanese life and that Syria is there to protect Lebanon from Israeli
aggression.
No matter where else you
look, no one else had anything to gain except Israel and the U.S. because this
death could cause some possible upset in Lebanese politics and life.

Most Middle East experts in
the Arab and Muslim worlds believe Israeli hands were at work in the killing of
former Prime Minister of Lebanon, Rafiq A-Hariri.
America quickly pointed the
finger at Syria, as did Israel, which was tantamount to convicting themselves
because they are the only two countries that would gain by creating unrest in
Lebanon. President Lahoud and Hezbollah, who represent two of the important
factions of the Lebanese government both condemned the bombing and their own
experts said the blast had all the earmarks of the bombing that was carried out
by Israel against former Palestinian leaders in Beirut in the past.

America and Israel want
Syria out of Lebanon, but the majority of Lebanese realize the Syrian presence
is an aid to their country that helps stop the Israelis from once invading
Lebanon (as Israel did in 1982, then stayed on in the south to occupy part of
Lebanon until the Hezbollah ousted them by military force in 2000). Also, by
killing Hariri, the Israelis and Americans can both claim that the area is more
unstable and needs more American style “democracy” and occupation. Hariri was a
giant among progressive Arab and Muslim leaders, and though he made money in
Saudi Arabia and was friendly to the government, his attitude in Lebanon was
very progressive and he made sure the church and state were kept separate in
Lebanese political decisions.
Hariri was a man beloved by
all sides, even his former political foes. They saw him as a man who had helped
to bring Lebanon back from the chaos that Israel had caused with their Falangist
allies in the invasion of 1982. One must also remember that the man who wanted
Lebanon destroyed, and who led the attack that destroyed all of Beirut was none
other than the present prime minister of Israel, Ariel Sharon. Sharon has set up
a special group of dark ops in Israel who are allowed to kill anyone who may be
a threat to Israel in any land in the world—clearly a violation of International
Law. Of course, Sharon, like Bush, has decided that International Law does not
govern Israel’s or America’s selfish ambitions in the world.

Hariri’s killing, like so
many of those in Iraq, is the work of either the Israeli dark ops or American
mercenaries who have been hired out to kill people who are progressive in the
Arab and Muslim worlds. That is why in Lebanon today, people know that it was
not some dissident “Islamist group” (that no one has heard of, nor does anyone
believe actually exists) who allegedly took credit for the deed, and in Iraq,
where the religious leaders among the Sunnis and Shi’is are telling their people
not to revenge themselves on one another, because they know the killings are
professional jobs being done by people from outside Iraq. The parallels are
evident to experts, but these experts will not be allowed on American media.
But, Professor Rima Allaf, of the Royal Institute in England is correct, this
was the work of an intelligence agency—and we damn well know who the only two
would be—because they are the only two to gain by this deed, Israel or
America.
Remember, as I stated
earlier, in criminal acts, one must always look to who has the most to gain.
And, as Rime Allaf said, this was the work of “an intelligence agency.”

It’s time these killings in
Iraq, in Lebanon, and even the assassination of the Prime Minister of Georgia, a
foe of American oil pipelines, be stopped, and that the world set up an
investigation team to look into these matters because they create more chaos and
misery for the world.

[IslamCity] Fasting the 9th 10th of Muharram: Virtues Rules

2005-02-18 Thread Siraj Mohammed

Scholars of Islam, As-Salamu `alaykum. What are the virtues and rules of fasting the 9th and 10th of Muharram? Jazakum Allah khayran.
Responce:
Dear brother in Islam, thanks a lot for your question and the interest you show in having a clearer view of the true teachings of Islam. May Allah help you get the right understanding and stand firm on the Straight Path, Amen! First of all, it is very important to make it clear that fasting on the day of `Ashura’ – the 10th of Muharram- is of great merits in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Fasting the day of `Ashura' (is of great merits), I hope that Allah will accept it as an expiation for (the sins committed in) the previous year” (Muslim). Also, fasting the 9th of Muharram is highly recommended by the Sunnah. Imam At-Tirmidhi reported that Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to say: We should fast on two days: the 9th and 10th of Muharram to distinguish ourselves from the Jewish community. (At-Tirmidhi) Explaining the virtue of fasting on the 9th and the 10th of
Muharram, Dr. Muzammil H. Siddiqi, former President of the Islamic Society of North America, states:

It is the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to fast on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him used to fast on the day of `Ashura'. When he came to Madinah, he found out that the Jews of Madinah were also fasting on this day remembering Prophet Musa (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) admired this tradition and said to the Jews, "I am closer to Musa than you are." He fasted and he also told his Companions to fast on this day. Later, before the end of his life, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) told Muslims to add the 9th day also. Thus, it is recommended to fast on both the 9th and 10th of Muharram.
Moreover, in his well-known book, Fiqh As-Sunnah, the late Sheikh Sayyed Sabiq states:

Abu Hurayrah reported: "I asked the Prophet: 'Which Prayer is the best after the obligatory Prayers?' He said: 'Prayer during the mid of the night.' I asked: 'Which fasting is the best after that of Ramadan?' He said, 'The month of Allah that you call Muharram’" (Ahmad, Muslim, and Abu Dawud). Mu`awiyyah ibn Abi Sufyan reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah say: "Concerning the day of `Ashura’, it is not obligatory upon you to fast on it as I do. Whoever wishes may fast and whoever does not wish to is not obliged to do so" (Al-Bukhari and Muslim). It is noteworthy that Muslim scholars have stated that fasting of `Ashura’ is of three levels as follows: 1. fasting for three days, i.e., on the 9th, 10th, and 11th of Muharram, 2. fasting the 9th and 10th of Muharram, and 3. fasting only the 10th of Muharram.

Money cannot create energy The problem is not solved by throwing enough money at it.The wishful thinking that the market - supply and demand- will solve the problem, is nonsense. In order to compensate for the 3-6% production drop per year after the peak, a huge non existingalternative energy network needs to be built. In order to built this network, energy = oil is needed. The market will wait untildecline has started, however the necessary oil needed to invest in new energiesis then used to feed an eroding world market and energy system.

Our economic and financial system depends on growth

Our economic and financial system depends on growth = increase of consumption = increase of production = increase of energy demand.Banks give loans to people, people produce and sell, people pay back loans plus interest, banks make money, banks give more loans. Even if steady state is reached, the system doesn't work anymore. Banks don't give loans without making money through interests. Our industrial societies and our financial systems were built on the assumption of constant growth, growth based on ever more readily available cheap fossil fuels. Oil in particular is the most convenient and multi-purposed of these fossil fuels. Oil currently accounts for about 40% of the world's commercial energy, and about 90% of transportation energy. Oil is so important that the peak will have vast implications across the realms of geopolitics, lifestyle, agriculture and economic stability.http://www.energybulletin.net/primer.php

There's no time in history that the world society depended exclusively on one resourceAs geologist Dale Allen Pfeiffer points out in his article entitled, “Eating Fossil Fuels,” approximately 10 calories of fossil fuels are required to produce every 1 calorie of food eaten in the US. The size of this ratio stems from the fact that every step of modern food production is fossil fuel and petrochemical powered: 1. Pesticides are made from oil;2. Commercial fertilizers are made from ammonia, which is made from natural gas, which is also about to peak.3. Farming implements such as tractors and trailers are constructed and powered using oil;4. Food distribution networks are entirely dependant on oil. In the US, the average piece of food is transported 1,500 miles before it gets to your plate;
Actually, there is a parallel in history. Polynesians colonized the Easter Isands around 500AD.Over the next 1000 years the population grew between 7000-2.Polynesians depended on wood as the one resource for building, transportation and energy. Eventually the islanders started using more trees than grew back. They never bothered to figure out how much reserves were left. After the depletion of the island's wood resources, chaos became so widespread, the island is still spread with weopons used by the islanders.Food became so scarce, the islanders resorted to cannibalism.(Jared Diamond,http://www.hartford-hwp.com/archives/24/042.html)
Peak oil and the US economy-Historically, oil and most resources are traded in dollars. Revenues made from oilallows the US to print more dollars.
-The US is the world's largest consumer, 5% of the world population burn 25% of the world's oil.
-US has worlds largest trade deficit (The Nation’s international deficit in goods and services increased to $617.7 billion in 2004 from $496.5 billion in 2003. http://www.census.gov/indicator/www/ustrade.html)

[IslamCity] War in Jolo: ABIM calls for UN and OIC Intervention

War
In Jolo: ABIM Calls For UN And OIC Intervention

February 16, 2005 - The Muslim Youth Movement of
Malaysia (ABIM) calls for the active intervention by the United Nations
Organization (UN) and Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) on the
on-going armed conflict in the Southern Philippines island of Jolo, Muslim
Mindanao. Jolo, the capital of the former Sultanate of Sulu, has been the
site of fierce fighting between the freedom fighters of the Moro National
Liberation Front (MNLF) and marines of the Armed Forces of the Philippines
(AFP) that has claimed hundreds of killed and wounded on both
sides. The magnitude of the MNLF-AFP war that erupted recently
engulfing almost the entire island province of Sulu needs the intervention
by the United Nations. The OIC as Third Party to the ‘Peace Accords’
between the protagonists know pretty well that the letter and spirit of
the Accord has not only been inadvertently unimplemented, it is also not
the suitable solution to the recurring conflict between the Moros and
Filipinos. Inadequate relief assistance for refugeesThe
international relief agencies and/or non-governmental organizations (NGOs)
also need to bring in humanitarian and relief assistance in order to save
tens of thousands of civilians who are languishing in makeshift refugee
centres without adequate supply of food and medicines and may get caught
in the crossfire. The used of helicopter-fired missiles and
bombings from aircrafts, battle tanks and artillery on the ground and
naval bombardments from the sea, in addition to brigades and battalions of
regular foot soldiers, including elite troops backed by American advisers,
cannot be dismissed as an “isolated case of war on terrorism”. Moreover,
the alleged discrepancies in the implementation of the Jakarta ‘Peace
Accord’ and the reported abuses of the Philippine Marines by
indiscriminately killing civilians, that triggered the latest round of
fighting, must be looked into more objectively in the interest of peace
and stability in the region. In only a matter of days, reports of
casualties have been staggeringly high, with high-ranking officers among
those killed on both sides. The fresh turnout of Moro refugees
have reportedly swelled to tens of thousands scattered all over the island
province with not enough organized relief agency catering to their
problems. There are reportedly acute shortages of food, sanitation and
medicines, which could lead to possible outbreak of diseases and
epidemics, and therefore another human disaster similar to a tsunami
  effect.Coordinated bombings
The seemingly coordinated bombings in the cities of
Metro-Manila, Davao and General Santos the other day that killed 7 and
wounding 150 others, which was claimed by the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG),
could hardly be construed as the work of the parties involved in the Jolo
conflict. But rightly or wrongly, for as long as the Philippine Armed
Forces are bogged down in Jolo, the miscreants would find it fair and
beneficial to create mischief to either hurt the government or divert
  attention from the real issue.
We, therefore, urge the Philippine government and the
MNLF leadership to return to the negotiating table to resolve the crisis
while it is still manageable, according to General Braganza, the chief of
the AFP Southern Command, for peace and stability to return to the
region.Role of IMTWe also call upon the United Nations,
the Organization of Islamic Conference, Malaysia in particular, to sue for
a ceasefire and to enlarge the role of the International Monitoring Team
(IMT) to include the province of Sulu, including Zamboanga, Basilan and
Tawi-Tawi which are potential flash points to the conflict. Efforts should
be taken to ensure that other interested groups are barred from taking the
initiative to achieve their own sinister agenda to widen or divert the
root causes of the conflict. Any new agreement should
appropriately address the sentiments of the Moro masses and the roots of
the long drawn out conflict, otherwise the cycle of violence will not
  end.Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia
(ABIM)

Muslims of Tibet

Muslims of TibetBy Masood
ButtTibetan Bulletin
Tibet had pockets of Muslims entrenched within its borders although there is
no documentary evidence on how Muslims first came to settle there. In fact,
information on Tibetan Muslims in general itself is scarce. But the existence of
Tibet appears to be known to the Muslim world from the earliest period of
recorded history. Arab historians like Yaqut Hamawi, Ibn Khaldun and Tabari
mention Tibet in their writings. In fact, Yaqut Hamawihas, in his book Muajumal
Buldan (encyclopaedia of countries), refers to Tibet in three different ways
Tabbat, Tibet and Tubbet.
During the reign of Umar bin Abdul Aziz (717-720) of the Persian Empire, it
is believed that a delegation from Tibet and China requested him to send Islamic
missionaries to their countries. Caliph Umar is said to have sent Salah bin
Abdullah Hanafi to Tibet. The Abbasid rulers of Baghdad also maintained
re1ations with Tibet in the eighth and the ninth centuries.
Kashmir and Eastern Turkestan were the nearest Islamic regions bordering
Tibet. It is said that Muslim migrants from Kashmir and Ladakh areas first
entered Tibet around 12th century. Gradually, marriages and social interaction
led to an increase in the population until a sizable community came up around
Lhasa, Tibet's capital. There was no large-scale conversion to Islam though.
Thomas Arnold, in his book, The Preaching of Islam, published in the early part
of this century says, "Islam has also been carried into Tibet proper by Kashmiri
merchants. Settlements of such merchants are to be found in all the chief cities
of Tibet: they marry Tibetan women, who often adopt the religion of their
husbands..."
Tibetan Muslims trace their origin from immigrants from four main regions:
China, Kashmir, Ladakh and Nepal. Islamic influence in Tibet also came from
Persia and Turkestan.
Muslims are known as Khache among Tibetans. This appear to be because the
earliest Muslim settlers to Tibet were from Kashmir which was known as Khache
Yul to Tibetans.
The arrival of Muslims was followed by the construction of mosques in
different parts of Tibet. There were four mosques in Lhasa, two in Shigatse and
one in Tsethang. In recent years, one mosque in Lhasa has been renovated, with
Tibetan Muslims from India sending religious inscriptions to it for use. Tibetan
Muslims were mainly concentrated around the mosques that they constructed. These
mosques were maintained well and were the centres of Muslim social life in
Tibet.
Tibetan Muslims led a reasonably free life in a Buddhist environment. In
fact, during the time of the fifth Dalai Lama, Tibetan Muslims received the
following special privileges:
i) They were permitted to settle their affairs independently, according to
the Shariat Laws. The government permitted the Muslim community to elect a
five-man committee, known as 'Ponj' who looked after their interest. From among
the Ponj, a leader - known as Mia to Muslims and Kbache Gopa - (Muslim headman)
among non-Muslims - was elected. ii) Tibetan Muslims were free to set up
commercial enterprises and were exempted from taxation. iii) Tibetan Muslims
were also exempted from implementing the 'no meat rule' when such a restriction
was imposed in Tibet every year during a holy Buddhist month. Muslims were also
exempted from removing their caps to Buddhist priests during a period in a year
when the priests held sway over the town. Muslims were also granted the Mina
Dronbo (invitation to different communities) status to commemorate the
assumption of spiritual and temporal authority by the fifth Dalai Lama.
In addition, Muslims had their own burial place. There were two cemeteries
around Lhasa: one at Gyanda Linka about 12 km from Lhasa town and the other at
Kygasha about 15 km away. A portion of Gyanda Linka was turned into a garden and
this became the place where the Muslim community organised their major
functions. Gyanda Linka is said to contain unmarked graves believed to be those
of foreigners who came to preach Islam to Tibet. Kygasha was mainly used by
Muslims of Chinese origin.
The above privileges were contained in a written document provided to the
Tibetan Muslim community by the Tibetan government. These privileges were
enjoyed until Chinese occupation of Tibet in 1959.
Tibetan Muslims confined themselves mainly to trade and commerce. Hardly any
of them indulged in fanning. As the community grew, Madrasas (primary schools)
were set up in which children were taught about Islam, the Koran and the method
of offering namaz (prayers). Urdu language was also part of the curriculum.
There were two such Madrasas in Lhasa and one in Shigatse.
After finishing their stuthes in these Madrasas, students were sent to India
to join Islamic institutes of higher learning such as Darul-U1oom in Deoband,
Nadwatul-U1ema in Lucknow and Jamia Millia Islamia in New

[IslamCity] NEWS: CA: Bid to Deepen Interfaith Harmony

2005-02-18 Thread Abdul Alim

February 12, 2005

BELIEFS
A Delicate, Daring Bid to Deepen Interfaith Harmony

Jews, Christians, Muslims join in L.A. group's pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Organizers take pains to keep politics out.

By Teresa Watanabe, Times Staff Writer

Mahmoud Abdel-Baset was scared. As director of religious affairs for the Islamic Center of Southern California in Los Angeles, he and his interfaith partners had condemned the Taliban's destruction of precious Buddhist statues in Afghanistan.

He had participated in prayer vigils after the Los Angeles riots and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. He had helped lead countless discussions about the intersection of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. But last year, when his partners at the Wilshire Center Interfaith Council proposed a joint pilgrimage to Israel, Abdel-Baset gulped. How, he wondered, could he sell this trip to the Muslim community at the height of conflict between Israelis and Palestinians? Could they separate raging political emotions from religious belief?"With so much bloodshed and suicide bombings, it was the least opportune time to talk to my community about this," Abdel-Baset recalled. "I didn't know how to break it to my board." But he did. And some members of his mosque agreed to take the trip. In the euphoria of that achievement, Abdel-Baset's early fears vanished. On Thursday, after months of delicate preparation, he and 45
other Muslims, Christians and Jews left Los Angeles for an 11-day visit to Israel and Jordan in what they say is one of the first pilgrimages from Southern California to the Holy Land that includes all three Abrahamic faiths. In promoting the trip, Abdel-Baset says, he challenged his community to "put your money where your mouth is" on issues of interfaith harmony and Islam's inclusive embrace of Judaism and Christianity."It's easy to talk," he said, "but this trip is putting us to the test. We're going to live together and visit each other's holy places. This probably can't happen anywhere else besides America." In addition to Abdel-Baset, the group's leaders are Rabbi Stephen Julius Stein of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, Father Rick Byrum of St. James Episcopal Church and Deacon Eric Stoltz of St. Brendan Catholic Church.Other pilgrims are drawn from diverse walks of life, including engineering, physical therapy, education, business and
accounting. They are evenly divided between men and women, and among the three faiths, along with one Unitarian Universalist. The leaders, who have deeply bonded during a year of planning, said an array of reasons motivated their decision to become pilgrims. Stein, who left a career as a musical conductor at age 40 to begin studying for the rabbinate in 1998, said the legacy of the late Rabbi Alfred Wolf influenced his decision.Wolf had taught him that living fully as a Jew meant understanding and reaching out to the world around him. Wolf made Wilshire Boulevard Temple "an open door for religions," Stein said.In deciding to participate, he thought of other models of faith in his life. There is his cousin in Israel, who quit her government job rather than discriminate against Arabs. One of his best friends is an Arab Israeli. The trip in some way, he said, is honoring all of them. Stoltz, a Web designer who was recently ordained as a deacon, said he
was drawn to the trip by Catholic teachings on social justice and interfaith outreach. Personally, he said, he aims to deepen his own faith.Byrum is a former missionary in West Africa who became an Episcopal priest in 2000. When asked for his motivation, he cited the classic story about the blind men who touch an elephant and all describe it differently."I don't want to remain blind with just one perspective," he said. The trip's leaders have carefully depoliticized the journey and stress that it is solely a religious pilgrimage. The group flew to Israel from Toronto on Air Canada to avoid using El-Al Israel Airlines, the country's national carrier. In his pitch to his community, Abdel-Baset said, he never referred to the destination as Israel; instead they would travel to the "holy sites." Stein said that, to avoid politics, the pilgrims would not even meet with Palestinian or Israeli peace groups. The itinerary is replete with
opportunities for cross-faith educational encounters in visits to such places as Tel Aviv; Nazareth; Bethlehem; Jerusalem; Galilee; and Amman, Jordan. At Tz'fat, the medieval center of Jewish mysticism and important locale for Sufism, Stein and Abdel-Baset planned to introduce pilgrims to both the Jewish and Islamic mystical traditions. At the Basilica of the Annunciation of Mary, where the Angel Gabriel is believed to have told Mary she would give birth to Jesus, Abdel-Baset was scheduled to explain the Islamic significance of Jesus' mother, known as Miriam. At Mt. Nemo, where Moses is believed to have viewed the Promised Land before dying, reflections on his contributions to all three faiths were planned with readings on the

Note on the "Jihad" Noble Verses:
The so-called "Jihad" Noble Verses came for specific times and places. They don't apply for all times and everybody! I can't slay you, a non-Muslim, just because you're not a Muslim. The pagan Arabs were very hostile people and only knew the sword as an answer. Many wars were imposed upon the Muslims, and thus, it is only normal and natural to find Noble Verses that deal with these specific hostile situations. But the Ultimate and Overall Message of the Noble Quran is PEACE, as clearly proven in the Noble Verses above.

{And who is better in speech than he who [says: My Lord is Allah (believes in His Oneness), and then stands straight (acts upon His Order), and] invites (men) to Allah's (Islamic Monotheism), and does righteous deeds, and says: I am one of the Muslims.} (Holy Quran-41:33)

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: By Allah, if Allah guides one person by you, it is better for you than the best types of camels. [al-Bukhaaree, Muslim]

The prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also said, Whoever calls to guidance will have a reward similar to the reward of the one who follows him, without the reward of either of them being lessened at all.

[IslamCity] Shaykh Al-Albaani on the recommended fast that coincides with a S aturday

2005-02-18 Thread M. Malhar

Topic: Shaykh Al-Albaani on the recommended fast that coincides with a
saturday

_

abdur.raoof.m-- 01-29-2004 @ 6:14 PM
The following has been taken from a tape entitled humul-ghurabaah
by Shaykh Naasir-Uddin Al-Albaani Rahimahullah:

Indeed all praise is due to Allah,we praise him, we seek his aid and his
forgiveness, whom so ever Allah guides non can misguide and whom so ever he
misguides non can guide, I bear witness that non has the right to be
worshipped except Allah the most high and I bear witness that Mohammad is
his slave and messenger, may Allahs peace and prayers be upon him. To
proceed:

With regards to the fast of A'ashuraa, if it coincides with a day on which
fasting is prohibited, whether the day of A'ashuraa falls on a friday, where
there is a prohibition to fast on its own, without fasting a day before or a
day after or whether the day of A'ashuraa coincides with saturday, where the
prohibition on fasting is an absolute prohibition(Mutlaqan),except for what
Allah the Mighty and Majestic has made obligatory.

So what comes to my mind, is the following hadeeth and its explanation. The
hadeeth narrated by Imaam Muslim in his saheeh, from the hadeeth of Abee
Qataadah Al-Ansaaree radiallahu anhu:

That the Messenger of Allah was asked about the fast of A'ashuraa,so he
said: that is the day that is an expiation for the previous year, so he
was asked about the fast of the day of A'rafah,so he said: that is the day
that is an expiation for the previous year and the following year. So it was
said to him, what do you say about the fast on a monday, so he said: that is
the day that I was born and the day that I was sentby Allah. and in
another wording:the quraan was revealed upon me on this day.

So this hadeeth brings together and specifies the excellence of fasting on
these three days. What now comes to mind and that which requires attention
and caution is when these days of virtue and excellence coincide with a day
that the wise legislation has prohibited fasting. Where the affair is one of
apparent contradiction, do we submit and fast on these days of virtue or do
we leave them,if the days conflict with a prohibition?

The problem is resolved, with regards to this kind of situation, where the
day of A'ashuraa falls on a saturday. The saturday of which the Messenger of
Allah has said in an authentic hadeeth:

Do not fast on the day of saturday except that which has been made
obligated upon you,and if one of you does not find except a bark of a tree
then let him chew it.In another wording:let him swallow it. (1)

The point of evidence being that the Messenger of Allah prohibited fasting
on a saturday-an absolute prohibition- except what is obligated, like the
fast of Ramadaan or for the fulfilment of a vow, if one vowed to fast a
complete month or a week.

As for what is not obligated, like the fast of A'ashuraa or the fast of
A'rafah, where they may coincide with a saturday. Does one fast? No, one
does not fast,as the authentic hadeeth mentions: except that which is
obligated upon you.

Likewise monday, if it coincides with Eid,like the previous Eid coincided
with a thursday and thursday is also a virtuous day to fast. So if Eid falls
on a monday or a thursday, then do we place the virtue over and above the
prohibition of fasting on a Eid or do we place the prohibition over and
above the virtue?

The problem is resolved by applying a fundamental principle of fiqh, that is:
If a prohibition is in opposition to an allowance, the prohibition takes
precedence over the allowance. (tuqaddamul-haadir a'lal-mubeeh)

So if the day of A'ashuraa falls on a saturday we do not fast, similarly if
Eid falls on a monday or a thursday,we do not fast, because the excellence
of fasting on these days is in contradiction with a prohibition, so the
prohibition takes precedence and we place it over and above the virtue.

As for what we are asked by many of the people, about the one who fasts the
fast of Dawood-upon him be peace-to fast a day and to miss a day and perhaps
one of the days falls on a saturday, then we say he should not fast; why?
because it is not from the obligated fasts. Likewise,if one was to fast the
fasting of Beyd the 13th,14th and 15th of each month and they were to fall
on a saturday, one does not fast. so with this, one takes the principle and
is at ease: A prohibition takes precedence over a virtuous action
(Al-Fadl).

So I end this sitting and I say what he, may Allahs peace and prayers be
upon said:

Whoever leaves a thing for the sake of Allah, Allah will replace it with
what is better than it.(2)

So if a muslim leaves off fasting in obedience to the Messenger of Allah, he
has therefore left it for the sake of Allah and Allah will replace it with
what is better.

So if one who is in opposition to this says; how have you left the fast of
A'ashuraa, which is an expiation for the previous year and the fast of
A'rafah, which is an expiation

2005-02-18 Thread Shaikh Hyder

Arif sahaib it is a comment from you. Muslims are ready to reciprocate more then two times the friendly feelings from the PM.
But the problem is that when you have sold out leaders like Musharraf, there is some things else behind the pictures you see in the newspapers. If India is sincere than why such an expensive border fence is created? Why India wants to take more water from rivers and make Pakistan barren?
Surely Musharraf, India and US wants to dictate their terms and humiliate the Muslims of Pakistan and the subcontinent into submission and humiliation. Why else Musharraf will kill his own people and send Afghans and Pakistanis to Guantanamo Bay to be left under torture? Don't Pakistan have courts and prisons for trial and punishments?
Are these Muslims (the freedom fighters) not our brothers and sisters? Why Indian Muslims are massaccred at the whim of ruling parties? They are called Pakistanis and go home to Pakistan?

Interesting observations. But we must appreciate Natwar Singh's gesture of sporting
a Jinnah cap. If I were to write caption for this picture, it would be like this.
"Maulana Natwar Singh, Foreign Minister of India in Islamabad shaking hands

Hindus, Muslims, and Sikhs were all forced to live under the gora saheb’s colonial rule. The gora sahib packed his suitcase and sailed back over half a century ago. But guess who’s still carrying the servile mentality and fawning attitude and behavior? Look at the picture below and it might help you with the answer. Do you know who’s spoken to in his national language but always respond in gora saheb’s lingo? The incurably servile ...

[IslamCity] The Most Beautiful Girl !

2005-02-18 Thread Dr. Muddassir

The Most Beautiful
Girl

No, she's not Diana Hayden nor
is she Sushmita Sen,
Not even Aishwarya Rai, Who is
this girl then ?

No, she does not flash her legs
nor walk down the aisle semi-nude
For her such things are
unthinkable, sacrilegious and downright rude

Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss
"Anything", She does not aspire to be
She shuns all kinds of
publicity in privacy she would rather
be

Never in a swimming costume
will she for a camera pose
Yes, she's the 'girl in hijaab'
more beautiful than a rose !

Those who're 'stripped' of
modesty will 'strip' for any cause
Whether on a lonely beach or in
front of a full house

In their naked greed they dance
In pursuit of earth's glory
Is there a thing more vulgar
than a woman devoid of modesty ?

In the name of freedom all
moral values are now defined
Vulgarity, nudism, nakedness
are steps to fame that wind

Those who are of rotten minds
call it freedom of "female" species
Yet, they exploit them
a-plenty, whenever and wherever they please.

But for their terrible
transgressions maybe they are not fully
to
blame, The Muslims forgot their
duty and let them live in shame

Incumbent upon the Muslims it
was to promote good and stop all vice
If they had done their duty
such situations wouldn't arise

Back to our girl in hijaab much
loved in Allah's sight
She is darling of all the
angels Heaven beckons to her, by right

She's a simple Muslim Girl Yet
more beautiful than a full moon
The brightness of her face is
all "Noor" can there be a greater boon ?

Modesty is her birth right
without it, she'd feel lost
"Shamelessness" is a Devil's
tool that she avoids at any cost

No, she does not commit sinful
acts nor to base desires give vent
In studies, salah, zikr and
tilawat much of her time is spent

In obedience of Allah's
commands she does all the things wise
And the riches that she scorns
befits a "Princess of Paradise"

Our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said
modesty is a part of faith
For those who follow not we
solemnly lay a wreath

No, she's not Diana Hayden nor
she is Sushmita Sen
Nothing on earth would entice
her Rupees, Dollars or Yen !

Remember Me in Your
Prayers
Good Luck Best
Regards
