[IslamCity] Enemy within(http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2005/751/fo2.htm)

2005-07-17 Thread sahannan

Enemy within
Europe appears reluctant to embrace its Muslim communities, reveals
Magda
El-Ghitany

"In most of Europe, Muslims are made to feel that they do not truly belong,"
Imam Abdul-Jalil Sajid, chairman of the UK-based Muslim Council for Religious
and Racial Harmony, told the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe
(OSCE) conference on "Anti-Semitism and Other Forms of Intolerance" in June.
"They feel they are not accepted, let alone welcomed ... they are seen as 'an
enemy within' or a 'fifth column' ... they feel that they are under constant
siege," he added. Now "the words 'Muslim', 'asylum seeker', 'refugee' and
'immigrant' become synonymous and interchangeable ... in popular
imagination."
According to Sajid, when the UK Home Office launched a campaign to highlight
the alleged dishonesty of asylum seekers, it chose to focus public attention on
Muslims. The poster read: "Ali did not tell us his real name or his true
nationality. He was arrested and sent to prison for 12 months." This sentence
was reproduced in five languages, each connected with a Muslim country. Only in
small print would one learn that the case cited had nothing to do with asylum
regulations.
Sajid also cited e-mails that the Muslim Council itself received after 11
September 2001: "Have you heard the saying 'crocodile tears', well in my opinion
your sentiments of sympathy regarding the attacks in New York are exactly that
... Your kind knows nothing but force. Well you've sown the seed, now reap the
whirlwind, you have woken us up to what you all stand for." Another threatened:
"The rest of the world will now join to smash the filthy disease infested Islam
... you must be removed from Britain in body bags. Hope you like the bombs,
payback for your satanic religion." One received in February 2003 simply stated,
"We know where to find you."
Indeed, the majority of the 20 million Muslims of Europe -- most of which
arrived after WWII to work in labour markets -- are perceived by the European
continent as outlanders. According to representatives of Islamic European bodies
approached by Al-Ahram Weekly and a number of recently released
international reports, there is a two-way psychological barrier separating the
majority of Europe's Muslims and the mainstream of European societies. Muslims
are perceived as a backward community whose religion is incompatible with
Western values. Indeed, Sam Vaknin -- former economic adviser to the government
of Macedonia -- in the online magazine Global Politician labelled
Europe's Muslims as "Europe's new Jews".
The segregation Muslims have been confronting is mainly due to the
"exceptionality of Islam" policy that European governments have been applying,
Professor Jocelyne Cesari, research associate at the Center for Middle Eastern
Studies, Harvard University, and coordinator of the European Commission's
Network on Comparative Research on Islam and Muslims in Europe (NOCRIME), told
the Weekly. Such governments have been dealing with Islam using "special,
harsh measures" as its centrality to Muslims' lives has been perceived as
colliding with European secular values. "Islam is simply a religion. There is
nothing exceptional or radical about it," Cesari said. Further, there remains
fear that Europe's social climate might dramatically change given recurrently
high birthrates among Muslims, which "will [make Europe] a majority of Muslims
by the end of the 21st century", according to Orientalist Bernard Lewis.
Making matters worse, 11 September and the 7 July London bombings came, which
"accelerated" pre-existing "negative attitudes towards Islam and Muslims". It is
"unbelievable how Islam is slandered, not only by extremist groups, but also by
moderate parties, intellectuals and journalists," Cesari notes. Ahmed Jaballah,
director of the Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe, believes that the
September attacks led Europeans to "perceive moderate Muslims as extremists".
Muslims became the target of different forms of religiously motivated
harassment. "Islamophobia topped the mainstream," Jaballah told the
Weekly.
The 2005 report of the International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights
(IHF) -- a non-governmental organisation that has consultative status at the UN
and the Council of Europe -- on "Intolerance and Discrimination against Muslims
in the EU" backs up the claim, covering 11 EU countries: Austria, Belgium,
Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and the
UK. The report noted that attacks on Muslims markedly increased following
attacks that took place in the name of Islam, especially the slaying of Dutch
filmmaker Theo Van Gogh and the March 2004 Madrid bombings.
The social climate in which Muslims of Europe live differs, both between and
within countries. It is noteworthy that, according to secretary-general of the
European Islamic Council, Adli Abu Hajar, many European

Peace and blessings be upon the Messenger, his household and companions. Fellow Muslims! Fear Allaah as He should be feared. Fear of Allaah is a reminder for His devoted servants and it is safety from His punishment.Dear brethren! Muslim woman attains prosperity by following the path of the best women who lived in the best generation and got nurtured in the house of Prophethood. They are women of high status and outstanding estimation. Allaah praises them in the Qur'aan whereHe says, "O wives of the
Prophet! You are not like any other women. If you keep your duty (to Allaah), then be not soft in speech, lest he in whose heart is a disease (of hypocrisy, or evil desire for adultery) should be moved with desire, but speak in an honourable manner."(Al-Ahzaab 33:32)They are blessed and great women. Foremost among them is that intelligent and wise woman, Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid, the religious and noble woman. She grew up upon virtuous characters and manners. She was chaste and gracious. She was known among Makkah women as`the pure woman'. The Messenger of Allaah married her and she becamean excellent wife for him. She supported him with her life, wealth and wisdom. During his sorrowful days, he would seek shelter with her and confide in her. When the first revelation came to him he went to his wife shaking, and he said, "O Khadeejah, I fear for myself." But Khadeejah responded to his fear with a firm
heart. And she told him, "By Allaah, Allaah will not disgrace you." Islaam started in her house and she was the first person to embrace it. Ibn al-Atheer said, "Khadeejah was the first person toembrace Islaam, according to the consensus of the Muslims. No man or woman ever embraced Islaam before her." At the beginning of the Prophet's mission, he was faced with many tribulations. But she stood by him compassionately and supported him with her outstanding intelligence. Whenever he heard any undesirable words from the people and came to her, she would strengthen and console him. The Prophet said about her, "She believed in me whenthe people denied me, she trusted me when people belied me; she supported me with her wealth when people refused to support me and I was blessed with children by her when I was denied children by other women." (Ahmad)Khadeejah was a great and dutiful wife to her husband and an
affectionate mother to her children. She gave birth to all the Prophet's children except Ibrahim. She was extremelygood-mannered. She never argued with her husband and she never bothered him. The Messenger of Allaah said, "Angel Jibreel came to me and said:`Give Khadeejah the good tidings that she will have a palace made of hollowed pearls in Paradise and there will be neither noise nor any trouble in it.'" (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) As-Suhaylee said, "She was given the glad tiding of a house in Paradise because she never raised her voice over that of the Prophet and she never bothered him." She was pleased with her Lord andAllaah is pleased with her. The Prophet said, "Angel Jibreel told me: `When you come to Khadeejah, convey my Lord's greetings to her and mine aswell." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)Ibn al-Qayyim said, "Khadeejah was the only woman known to havethis honour." Allaah loved
Khadeejah, so did His angels. The Messenger of Allaah also loved her so much. He said, "I am blessed with herlove." (Muslim)Whenever the Prophet remembered her, he would mention her in glowing attributes and would show gratitude for her companionship.`Aaishah said, "Whenever the Messenger of Allaah remembered Khadeejah, he would never tired of praising her and invoking Allaah'sforgiveness for her. He appreciated her love and sincerity and he would honour her friends after her death."`Aaishah said, "He would often slaughter a goat, cut it intoparts and distribute it to Khadeejah's friends. And whenever I asked him, `Are there no other women in the world exceptKhadeejah?' He would say, `She was this and that and she bore mechildren.'" (Al-Bukhari)After her death, Allaah's Messenger heard her sister's voice. He them became sad and said, "She reminded me of Khadeejah." Khadeejah
was perfect in her religion, wisdom and conduct. The Prophet said, "Many men attained perfection, but only three women attained it: Maryam, daughter of `Imraan [Jesus' mother],Aasiyah, Pharaoh's wife and Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid." (Ibn Marduwah)She preceded the women of this Ummah in righteousness, nobility and splendour. Allaah's Messenger said, "Maryam [Mary, Jesus'mother] was the best woman of her time, and the best woman of this Ummah is Khadeejah." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)Khadeejah was righteous and made her home righteous. She reaped the fruit of her labour and she and her daughter

[IslamCity] Twelve Tips for the Muslim Youth

2005-07-17 Thread soft wind

Twelve Tips for the Muslim Youth
Humble writes "Why should you, a young Muslim, be helping to bring your friends closer to Allah? After all, you've got your own struggles to deal with: trying to explain why you pray to hostile teachers, Hijab discrimination, standing up in class when the professor attacks Islam, dealing with parents who think you've gone nuts because you're growing a beard, or all the other difficulties faced by a number of practicing Muslim youth? Islam was never meant to be an individualistic faith, reserved for the "chosen few". Muslims have a duty to spread the Deen, and practicing Muslim youth, whether beginners, activists or leaders have a crucial role to play."Allah has put them in a position that perhaps no one else is in," notes Sheema Khan, former Muslim Youth of North America (MYNA) advisor for eastern Canada. "They have the means to communicate with their peers, they have an understanding of what they're going through plus they have the guidance of Islam."Who is your childhood friend, who would rather spend Fridays at MacDonald's than the Masjid, or your classmate who is Muslim in name and only knows that "Muslims don't eat pork" going to listen to: the nice Imam of the Masjid who would freak out if he saw the way they were dressed and talked or you who may have grown up with them, joked with them, or see them everyday in school? The answer is obvious: you.Don't panic. Here are some tips and advice which can help from other Muslims, many of whom have been there and done that:Tip # 1 : Make Your Intention SincereAll work we do should ideally be for the sake of Allah. That includes the task of
bringing someone closer to Allah. That of course means this should not be connected to arrogance, thinking you're the teacher and everyone else should be lucky you've embarked on a crusade to save them. Guidance is from Allah. Make Dua and make sincere efforts and remember Allah can also misguide you if He wills (we seek refuge in Allah from that).Tip # 2 : Practice What You PreachNot practicing what you preach is wrong and you will lose the confidence of anyone, young or old, once they figure you out. Don't do it.Tip # 3 : Use The Quran Seerah (biography of the Prophet peace be upon him) As Dawa GuidesRead and understand those chapters of the Quran which talk about how the Prophets presented the message of Islam to their people. Read the Seerah (for some good Seerah books) to see especially how the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought Islam to so many different people, including young people. As
well, talk to Dawa workers, and check out manuals they may have written, like Yahiya Emerick's How to Tell Others About Islam.Tip # 4 : Talk To People As If You Really Dont Know ThemDon't assume you know someone just by looking at them. You don't know that the Muslim girl in your homeroom who walks through the school's hallways as if they were fashion show catwalks (see Ambe Rehman's perspective on this) is not someone you can talk to about Allah because she looks like a snob. Or that the Muslim guy who you've never seen at Juma at your university is a "bad Muslim". Maybe he was never really taught Islam and has no idea what importance Friday prayers have in Islam, especially for Muslim men.Tip # 5 : SmileDid you know the Prophet was big on smiling? But many "practicing" Muslims seem to have "their faces on upside down" as one speaker once said-frowning and serious.Smiling, being polite and kind are all part of the manners
of the Prophet, which we must exercise in our daily lives. If we want to approach others with Islam, we have to make ourselves approachable. Smiling is key to this. But note that being approachable does not mean being flirtations with the other gender. There are Islamic rules for how men and women should deal with each other which have to be respected. Dawa is no excuse to have long and private conversations and meetings with the other sex, for example. Set up a system where someone expressing an interest in Islam is referred to someone of the same sex.Tip # 6 : Take The Initiative Hang Out With ThemTake the first step and invite someone you may have spoken to a couple of times to sit at lunch together, to check out a hockey game or invite them over for Iftar in Ramadan. Also, share difficulties, sorrows and frustrations. Help with homework, be a shoulder to cry on when depression hits, or just plain listen when your friend is upset, discuss
common problems and KEEP THEIR SECRETS. There are few things as annoying as a snitch and backstabber. But an important note: if the problem is of a serious nature,(i.e. your friend is thinking of committing suicide or is taking drugs), notify and consult an adult immediately.Tip # 7 : Show Them Islam Is Relevent Today, Right Here, Right NowYoung people may think Islam is too "old fashioned" and not in tune with the modern age. Prove this wrong. Show how Islam is really about relating to Allah, which any

[IslamCity] Obeying the Prophet is Obeying Allaah

Obeying the Prophet is Obeying Allaah

Shariffa Carlo

I received an email the other day that was responding to another email wherein the writer had made reference to the large number of hadiths available to prove his point and how we could possibly ignore this body of evidence. The response in the second email was essentially that the problem was not the number of hadiths, but rather how we could possibly disobey a command from our beloved Prophet in even one sahih hadith.
I was struck by this. We spend so much time arguing with each other over the issues of Islam that I sometimes wonder if the purpose is just to argue. We have forgotten that being Muslim means SUBMITTING. We are supposed to submit to Allah. We are supposed to also submit to the commands of our beloved Prophet, because Allah ordered us to do so. We can not take one without the other. For instance, Allah orders us to pray. We do not know what is involved in the prayer except by the commands and actions of our beloved Prophet. So, if we obey the command in the Quraan, but ignore the sunnah, our prayer is invalid. We will pray as we feel like praying, omitting the obligatory actions and words in salat. We have many examples of things which have been made obligatory or haram by hadith only, like 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ood quoted this saying of the Prophet (hadith) while he was delivering a sermon: "May Allah curse the
women who tattoo their bodies and those who pluck their eyebrows; those who separate their teeth to make them look more pretty and those who try to change the creation of Allah." A woman named Umm Yaqub from the tribe of Banu Asad came to know of these words. She approached Ibn Mas'ood and said: "O Abu 'Abd ar-Rahman! It was reported to me that you have cursed such and such women." He said: "Why should I not curse those whom the Prophet, peace be upon him, cursed and who are cursed in the Book of Allah as well." She said: "I have read whatever is contained between the two covers (i.e. the whole Qur'an)." Had you been a good reader, you would have discovered it. Did you not read the following verse? "So take whatever the Messenger gives you and keep away from what he forbids you." (Surah Al-Hashr 59:7)
Here the principle is firmly established by the companion of Rasool Allah. He shows us what the Prophet said and explains to us that the commandment of the Prophet is equal to a commandment from Allah. This is not the only place this is written, Allah has commanded us in many places in the Quraan to obey the Messenger. A few of these are:
"O you who believe! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those charged with authority among you; and if you differ in anything among yourselves, then refer it to Allah and the Messenger if you do believe in Allah and the Last Day. That is best and most suitable for final determination." 4:59
Obey Allah and the Messenger; but if they turn back, then surely Allah does not love the unbelievers. 3:32
And obey Allah and the Messenger; that you may obtain mercy. 3:132
Those are limits set by Allah: those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (for ever) and that will be the supreme achievement. But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a Fire, to abide therein: And they shall have a humiliating punishment. 4:13-14
How serious is this command? It is the most serious. Think about the one act that we can not stop doing -- whether the phone rings, your mom calls or anything short of a threat occurs. It is salat. When we begin salat, we should not stop unless there is a dire emergency. Yet, we have an example which shows that the call of the Prophet is and was more important than completing the salat.
Narrated Abu Said Al-Mualla: While I was praying, the Prophet passed by and called me, but I did not go to him till I had finished my prayer. When I went to him, he said, "What prevented you from coming?" I said, "I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say"O you who believes Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle." (8.24)... Sahih Bukhari: Volume 6, Book 60, Number 226.
Here we can clearly see the importance of obeying the Prophet. Knowing this, how do we apply it? First, we need to clear our minds of the misconception that we must fully understand everything in Islam. Second, we acknowledge that we are supposed to blindly follow ONLY Allah and His Prophet. Blindly follow? This does not sound like Islam, does it? It is Islam. We can try to understand Islam, and one of the beauties of this religion is that we can understand so much, but we have to come to the realization that in all matters, after all the rationalizations are done, after all the angles have been explored, after all the rhetoric has been spun, we MUST obey Allah and His messenger, whether we understand it or not. There is no other way.
An example of this is the saying of Ali (raa). He

The Speech the President Should Give

A couple of weeks ago, on this very page of this here newspaper, Senator John Kerry wrote an Op-Ed article imagining "The Speech the President Should Give," about that night's televised presidential address on the war in Iraq. Of course, Kerry had about as much chance of George W. Bush's following his advice as the producers of "MTV Cribs" have of getting the president's mother to show them around Kennebunkport.

Still, Kerry stunned me, not because his ideas were sane, but because he was actually able to fantasize that President Bush would give a speech offering just and concrete solutions for that black hole. Because I don't even remember being able to dream that big.
The only possible presidential speech fantasy in my wildest of daydreams, my oratorical castle in the air, is that one day, for just one measly speech, the president - the man of "mission accomplished," the man who was once asked at a press conference to discuss one of his mistakes and couldn't think of any, the man who is surely the sunniest looker-on-the-bright-side east of Drew Barrymore - would sit behind his Oval Office desk, stare into a TV camera and say: "My fellow Americans, good evening. As if that's possible."
He continues, "We are a divided people, but let us celebrate what we have in common. We don't all worship the same god. Some of us do not believe in a god at all. But the good news is that, thanks to me, we all now believe in the Apocalypse. You're welcome."
Then he would address the worried Western states - which are afraid of going up in flames because so many copters and National Guardsmen, the region's usual summertime firefighters, are deployed to Iraq - adding, "Oops." This will remind him to remind us that his "Healthy Forests" initiative has at least reduced the fear of forest fires by making it easier to chop down those deadly trees.
"Which is what I'd like to do for the state of Florida," he says.
He continues: "In the future, you folks won't have to worry about all this hurricane damage anymore because of my inability to address, much less accept, the scientific consensus on the alarming consequences of global warming according to groups ranging from the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change to Mrs. Atkinson's eighth graders at Theodore Roosevelt Junior High. This means more hurricanes in the short term, but rest assured that icebergs melting from the greenhouse gases of unchecked American factories will flood Florida off the map eventually, so you'll no longer have homes to worry about."
The speech goes on for hours, pre-empting Conan. There are long tangents about mercury levels, under-armored military vehicles and war profiteering. Finally, losing his voice, he hoarsely ends his diatribe in the middle of the night, whispering "sweet dreams" while putting air quotes around the word "sweet."
Then I realized I was picturing George W. Bush giving this presidential bummer speech while wearing a cardigan sweater. Which is when it hit me. I was fantasizing about Jimmy Carter. I can stop whiling away the hours writing forlorn presidential speeches in my head and look up Carter's forlorn presidential speeches instead.
Of course, my favorite is the famous "malaise" speech of 1979 (it deals with the energy crisis - but never actually uses the word malaise). Considered by some to be the worst presidential speech in history, the address asserted that our problems are "deeper than gasoline lines." And: "This is not a message of happiness or reassurance, but it is the truth and it is a warning." Then: "There is simply no way to avoid sacrifice."
Those frank words, coming out of a presidential mouth, are shocking. It will be difficult, but think back and try to remember an America dependent on foreign oil, an America with high gasoline prices, an America consumed with crises in the Middle East. And imagine you feel there is nothing you, the average American, can do. Then your president goes on TV and instead of saying you can do something vague like "stay the course," he tells you that there is something small and practical you can do. You can carpool!
These days, there's just something refreshing about reading through Carter's clear-eyed political suicide. Daydreamer though I am, I have never expected a president to solve our chaos. It's just nice to know that once, one of them acknowledged it.

Developers and Purists Erase Mecca's History
By Laith Abou-Ragheb Tue Jul 12, 8:13 AM ET (Comments in RED are Mine)
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20050712/lf_nm/saudi_mecca_dc
MECCA, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - Some of Islam's historic sites in Mecca, possibly including a home of the Prophet Mohammad, are under threat from Saudi real estate developers and Wahhabi Muslims who view them as promoting idolatry.
Sami Angawi, an expert on the region's Islamic architecture, said 1,400-year-old buildings from the early Islamic period risk being demolished to make way for high rise towers for Muslims flocking to perform the annual pilgrimage to Islam's holiest city. "We are witnessing now the last few moments of the history of Mecca," Angawi told Reuters. "Its layers of history are being bulldozed for a parking lot," he added. Angawi estimated that over the past 50 years at least 300 historical buildings had been leveled in Mecca and Medina, another Muslim holy city containing the prophet's tomb.
Wahhabism, Saudi Arabia's dominant doctrine which promotes a strict narrow interpretation of Islam, was largely to blame, he said. "They (Wahhabis) have not allowed preservation of old buildings, especially those related to the prophet. They fear other Muslims will come to see these buildings as blessed and this could lead to polytheism and idolatry."
The Washington-based Saudi Institute, an independent news gathering group, says most Islamic landmarks have been destroyed since Saudi Arabia was founded in 1932. It cited a 1994 edict by the kingdom's senior council of religious scholars which ruled that preserving historical buildings might lead to polytheism.
Angawi, who founded the Haj Research Center in 1975 to study and preserve Mecca and Medina's rich history, claims to have identified a home of the Prophet Mohammad. But he is reluctant to publicize its location fearing it would be demolished like DAR al Arqam -- the first school in Islam where the prophet taught. Angawi's views were echoed elsewhere.
In London, Geoffrey King, Islamic art and archeology specialist at the School of Oriental and African and Studies, said the fate of Islamic historic sites in Saudi Arabia was "depressing." "The religious authorities have failed to appreciate the significance of these buildings to Muslims and scholars worldwide," said King, who taught for several years in the kingdom and stressed many young Saudis agreed with him.
REAL ESTATE DEMAND
Followers of Wahhabism say Muslims should focus on Mecca's Grand Mosque, which contains the Kaaba -- an ancient structure that more than 4 million Muslims visit each year as part of haj and umra pilgrimages.
Real estate firms see massive demand for new accommodation to house up to 20 million pilgrims expected to visit Islam's holiest city annually over the coming years as authorities relax entry restrictions for pilgrims. "The infrastructure at the moment cannot cope. New hotels, apartments and services are badly needed," the director of a leading real estate company said, estimating that developers are spending around 50 billion riyals ($13 billion) on projects in the city.
Dominating these is the 10 billion riyal Jabal Omar scheme. Covering a 230,000 square yard area adjacent to the Grand Mosque, the seven-year project consists of several towers containing hotels, apartments, shops and restaurants. Angawi said these developments will dwarf Mecca's Grand Mosque and are a sign of crass commercialization.
"Mecca is being treated like a bad copy of any city when it is a sanctuary. The house of God is being commercialized and these developments are disrespectful and totally out of proportion." But the Jabal Omar Development Company, the firm behind the project, said it was changing Mecca for the better, not least in demolishing more than 1,000 poorly built homes that clung precariously to the hillsides around the Grand Mosque.
The firm said around 70,000 residents from 29 different nationalities used to live on the Jabal Omar site before selling up and moving into better quality housing elsewhere. The residents of a similar neighborhood close by seemed to be equally eager to attract developers.
Ali Hussein, a 38-year-old originally from Myanmar, lives in a cramped house deep within a network of unpaved, rubbish-strewn alleyways. "The people that moved away now live in nice homes," he said as a stray cat skipped over a puddle of sewage nearby. "This is a very poor area. We hope another investor will come," said Amin Rafie, a local community ombudsman, adding that residents would likely be offered a handsome price for their disheveled homes in Saudi Arabia's oil-driven real estate boom.
But Angawi wasn't convinced of the developers' motives. "We have to accommodate these new pilgrims, but do we have to do it in towers and skyscrapers? Making money seems to be the bottom line here," he said. "We are destroying physical links to our past and turning our religion and history into a legend," he said.

Haji Shariatullah

Haji Shariatullah was an eminent Islamic reformer and brave freedom fighter of Bangladesh. The district of Shariatpur is named after him. He was born in 1781 in a petty Talukdar family at the village Shamail under the then Madaripur sub-division of greater Faridpur district. His father was Abdul Jalil Talukdar. He lost his father at the age of 8 years and was brought-up by his uncle Azimuddin. After his primary education he went to Calcutta and got admitted to Barashat Aliya Madrasa. He then received education from famous Madrassa of Furfura, Murshidabad. He emigrated to Makkah in 1799, returned to Bangladesh in 1818 (nineteen years after)and started an Islamic revivalist reform movement, akin to the contemporary Arabian Wahhabism. The movement he started came to be popularly known as the Faraizi Movement. His reform movement was basically religious; but it touched upon various
other aspects of the society. He may be characterised as an Islamic revivalist, a social reformer, a populist peasant leader and a freedom fighter. These traits were symptomatic of the devastating malaise which had taken hold of the people of Bengal who were then smarting under the unhampered misrule, loot and plunder of the English East India Company. While going to the holy Makkah in 1799 at the age of 18, he left behind a demurred, anguished, thrown over, unprotected people bemoaning at the suppression and repression of the British occupier indigo planters who lorded over them. The planters had by the side of them an equally outlandish corporation of Hindu Marwary zaminders who purchased large-scale zamindari estates under the terms and conditions of the permanent settlement of 1793. A third group of agents, popularly called gomastas of the private businesses of the officers of the East India Company, who were also mainly Marwaris and their Bengali associates, took under
their monopoly control river ports and markets all over the country. The combined perpetration of violence and extortion turned the people into serfs and slaves of the type of Medieval Europe; the violent social change was termed by the contemporary annual report of the English Police Commissioner as a 'loathsome revolution'. Shariatullah returned home in 1818, devoutly educated in religious learning and Arabic literature, schooled under the supervision of the great Islamic theologians of the time at Makkah with unbroken scholarships for nearly two decades. His stay at Arabia from 1799 to 1818 coincided with the rise of the Mawahhidun revolution miscalled Wahhabism of Arabia. He met Abdul Wahhab and was greatly influenced by his thoughts. The revolutionary religious spirit of Islamic revivalism that set the Arab's heart boiling, remained throbbing and afresh. Shariatullah came back with a burning sparkle of the same revivalist fire, which he tried to introduce in Bengal.
In 1818, Haji Shariatullah started his reform movement, which came to be known as the Faraizi, spread far and wide and became popular also in the neighbouring areas of greater Dhaka, Barisal and Comilla districts during the lifetime of the Haji. He emphasized on holding correct faith in the Tawheed (Unity of Allah) and on the Prophethood of Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) as well as on abstaining strictly from associating any false gods and goddesses with Him (shirk). Secondly, he laid extraordinary emphasis on performing the compulsory religious duties of Islam, by which he meant all necessary and mandatory duties, such as five times daily prayers (Salat/Namaz), payment of poverty alleviation religious taxes (Zakat), fasting in the mouth of Ramadan (Saum/Roza) and performance of Hajj, which are Faraiz (compulsory duties) and hence the movement was known as Faraizi Andolon. Besides, he emphasized on the unity and brotherhood of the Muslims and
equality of mankind; he condemned caste discrimination, which had contaminated the Muslim society. He vehemently condemned numerous un-Islamic customs, usage and polytheistic accretions that had crept into the Muslim society by contagion of the practices of the non-Muslim neighbours. Following the classical doctrines of the Muslim legal experts as noted down in Hedaya, he declared British India as a Dar- al- harb (an state of war) and called the Muslims to fight for freedom against the occupation power. In the socio-economic field, following the injunctions of the Quran to the effect that there is nothing due to man except the fruits of his own strivings, he declared that zamindars created under the Permanent Settlement had no right on the agricultural crops produced by the tillers of the land. He instructed his followers not to participate in the Puja festivities of the polytheistic Hindu neighbours, but also not to pay any crop-levy imposed on them by the
zamindars, besides the legal revenues fixed by the rent-roll of the government. This policy aroused the opposition of the newly

[IslamCity] NASA Fixes Shuttle Tiles, Launch on Track - What Are the Muslims Launching

2005-07-17 Thread Alan Border

NASA Fixes Shuttle Tiles; Launch on Track
By MARCIA DUNN, AP Aerospace Writer (Comments in RED are Mine)
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=storyu=/ap/20050713/ap_on_sc/space_shuttle
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - With the countdown for Discovery in its final hours, NASA was dealt an embarrassing setback Tuesday when a window cover fell off the shuttle and damaged thermal tiles near the tail. But the space agency quickly fixed the problem and said it was still on track for launch Wednesday.
The mishap was an eerie reminder of the very thing that doomed Columbia 2 1/2 years ago — damage to the spaceship's fragile thermal shield. The lightweight plastic cover on one of Discovery's cockpit windows came loose while the spaceship was on the launch pad, falling more than 60 feet and striking a bulge in the fuselage, said Stephanie Stilson, the NASA manager in charge of Discovery's launch preparations.
No one knows why the cover — held in place with tape and weighing less than 2 pounds — fell off, she said. The covers are used prior to launch to protect the shuttle's windows, then removed before liftoff. Two tiles on an aluminum panel were damaged, and the entire panel was replaced with a spare in what Stilson said was a minor repair job.
The cover, which weighs less than 2 pounds, struck a part of the fuselage that houses one of the engines used by the shuttle to maneuver in orbit. Launch managers were still awaiting an engineering analysis on whether the blow caused any damage to the engine hardware, but Stilson said she was confident there would be no problems. Word of the mishap came just two hours after NASA declared Discovery ready to return the nation to space for the first time since the Columbia disaster.
Up until the window cover fell, NASA's only concern was the weather. Because of thunderstorms in the forecast, the chances of acceptable weather at launch time were put at 60 percent. Discovery and its crew of seven were set to blast off at 3:51 p.m. EDT. The last few technical concerns had been resolved Tuesday afternoon at one final launch review by NASA's managers. "It is utterly crucial for NASA, for the nation, for our space program to fly a safe mission," NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said after the meeting. "We have done everything that we know to do."
The families of the seven astronauts killed during Columbia's catastrophic re-entry praised the accident investigators, a NASA oversight group and the space agency itself for defining and reducing the dangers. Like those who lost loved ones in the Apollo 1 spacecraft fire and the Challenger launch explosion, the Columbia families said they grieve deeply "but know the exploration of space must go on." "We hope we have learned and will continue to learn from each of these accidents so that we will be as safe as we can be in this high-risk endeavor," they said in a statement. "Godspeed, Discovery."
Discovery will be setting off on the 114th space shuttle flight in 24 years with a redesigned external fuel tank and nearly 50 other improvements made in the wake of the Columbia tragedy. A chunk of foam insulation the size of a carry-on suitcase fell off Columbia's fuel tank at liftoff and slammed into a reinforced carbon panel on the shuttle's wing, creating a hole that brought the spacecraft crashing down in pieces during its return to Earth on Feb. 1, 2003.
Almost every day since then, engineers have struggled to keep foam, ice and other debris from popping off the tank. They will not know whether they succeeded until Discovery flies. During the 12-day flight, Discovery's astronauts will test various techniques for patching cracks and holes in the thermal shielding.
The crew members will also try out a new 50-foot boom designed to give them a three-dimensional laser view of the wings and nose cap and help them find any damage caused by liftoff debris. That is on top of all the pictures of the spacecraft that will be taken by more than 100 cameras positioned around the launching site and aboard two planes and the shuttle itself.
"After this flight, we will have a much, much, much better idea of whether or not our measures we have taken ... have been effective — or not effective," Griffin said. "Now our best engineers have put their best efforts on that, and we devoutly hope that they have been effective." The board that investigated the Columbia accident put some of the blame on the space agency's safety culture, which collapsed during the doomed flight. Shuttle managers dismissed the foam strike, and engineers did not speak up about their fears.
At Tuesday's meeting, Griffin said, there was full and frank discussion of the remaining technical concerns. "I think we got everything that everybody knows about out on the table," he said. "Can there be something that we don't know about that can bite us? Yeah. This is a very tough business. It's a tough business. But everything we know about has been covered."
A safe and successful flight of Discovery will

The corporate terrorist of the Multinationals have invisibly joined hands with the religious zealots who have a mission to transform the Muslim world in their own image.By Abid Ullah Jan07/13/05 "ICH" - - It is time to talk a little bit more than about just what is happening in Palestine, Kashmir, Chechnya, Afghanistan and Iraq. Muslims’ situation is very bad. There is an obvious attempt to wipe Muslims out of the map if they do not agree to live by what has been repeatedly mentioned by Bush, Blair. Martin, and others as “our way of life” and our “values.” No other way of life and no other value matters.Terrible crimes are being committed to impose a “way of life” on Muslims. The aim is to keep Muslims away from Islam in accordance with the ideologists of the Washington regime and that aim is to be fulfilled by any means and at all costs.Briefly there are 150,000 dead people in Afghanistan and Iraq until now. The rest of the populations are subjected to a life which is hardly better than death. Economies and infrastructures are totally shattered and the only job available are working as collaborators for consolidation of occupations.Besides the concentration camps, there are areas, both in Afghanistan and Iraq, where no body knows what is going on, because there are no journalists and no monitors allowed. We fear that the death toll is much higher. There are reports of concentration camps even on ships in the international waters. The extent of the crimes against humanity has crossed all limits of comprehension. The question is: How come this is going on before the eyes of
the “civilized” world and there is no one who can hold the culprits accountable? Some people argue this is a war against terrorism and the extremists. In fact all those who died are ordinary Muslims, not even knowing the complex classification which the war lords have invented to divide Muslims. Yet the “civilized world” world is mum over Afghanistan occupation and there is no way it can deal with the occupation of Iraq and Palestine. Similarly, there is no "collateral damage." Every damage is intentional from day one to break the back of resistance in Muslim populations as a whole. This is total indifference and complacency and this is confusion between values and interests; principles and interests. This is what is serious because no civilization, or no man, can live without principles, values and dreams. That's what happened to the Roman Empire. That is what happened to the Muslim empires, to the Turkish empire and the British empire and that is what is happening to the
West right now. But then that is not a black and white situation. We have a situation where we have almost undivided sympathies of the public, most of the press, and yet in the democratic societies this is not reflected in the policies of the governments and the media. This is another question mark. Although in the United States, the general public is moved much more easily than in Europe. Why is this happening in Afghanistan and Iraq and Palestine? Did these places deserve this kind of treatment by the US, Israel and UK?What is happening now are condemnations, _expression_ of concerns but not actions by the concerned quarters. Hallow claims of democracy and freedom and liberation are to deceive their own people and their own self: to assuage the conscience of the West with lies and self-deceptions. This is not to question the goodwill of those who expose the truth. Not at all! This is not to question the courage of those who risk their lives to bring the
reality before our eyes, but the overall attitude is that 'we have been attacked so you must pay for the terrorism that emanates from your part of the world'. Or, try and blame all sides; a not very intelligent construction is used, 'No one is blameless'. Whatever it may mean, it is very much used when it comes to dealing with the US and Israeli occupations..'No one is blameless' is true in itself but it 'says nothing. It makes it easy not to act and easier to overlook what is happening: That there is an aggression! That there is a victim!!There is total confusion despite the overwhelming and incontestable evidence of the lies upon lies of the aggressors. The attempt to equate the two, the aggressor and the victims, is almost pathetic. And this is the most painful of all. It is much more human to say, well, we can not help or we are not willing to help and you are on your own, than to sit and watch the slaughtering of innocent women and children and to pretend
to be fair to both the killers and the killed. This is not a war on terrorism. This is a war to make and then break “terrorists” to terrorize

Al-Zilzal (The Earthquake)Chapter 9: Verses 1-8
When the earth trembles ... Istanbul, 17 August 1999
At 3:08 am, Turkey experiences the worst earthquake in a long time, reaching 7.8 on the Richter scale. The epicentre is near Golcuk, the Turkish naval base on the Marmara Sea near Ismit. My wife and I, fast asleep, are being thrown around in bed for forty-five endless seconds. There is no more electricity but the police call all citizens to leave their houses in expectation of a worse quake. So we spend the next few nights on an asphalted car park near our house - a scene weirdly resembling a picnic party.
I go around reminding people of what the 99th surah of the Quran tell us: "When the earth trembles with her trembling, and the earth issues her burden, and people ask: 'What is happening with her?' On that day, she will recount what came to her knowledge. On that day, all people will come forward singly in order to be shown their deeds. Then, whoever has done an atom's weight of good, will see it; and whoever has done an atom's weight of evil, will see it." But none of my asphalt neighbours seems to have heard of such a surah. Kemalism has done away with such knowledge.
Soon, rumours started spreading about the fact that the naval base, where a high brass party had been going to celebrate the military's victory in the war against the hijab, had been utterly destroyed by the quake and had even sunk into the sea. Had Gilles Kepel not called one of his books The Revenge of Allah?
For about a week, people in Istanbul walked about like zombies. The life picked up again and they became as heedless (and as frequently saturated in raki) as before. How many warnings do people need? How many warnings will they get?

[IslamCity] British Muslim Leader Denied Entry Into America Almighty

British Muslim Leader Denied U.S. Entry

LONDON - One of Britain's most senior Muslim leaders said Thursday he was denied entry to the United States without explanation, nearly a week after the deadly subway and bus attacks in London. A U.S. agency spokeswoman said customs agents had information that Dr. Zaki Badawi was "inadmissible," but she could not elaborate.
Badawi, head of the Muslim College, had been invited to speak at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, N.Y., where he planned to give a talk under the title "The Law and Religion in Society." But Badawi told The Associated Press that he was detained for about six hours upon arrival Wednesday in New York and questioned. "America is a lovely country. There is no reason why it should behave like that," Badawi said in a telephone interview.
A spokeswoman for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office in New York said that when Badawi's flight from London to John F. Kennedy International Airport landed at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, customs agents had information saying he was "inadmissible." Badawi then voluntarily withdrew his application to enter the country, Janet Rapaport said.
Rapaport said privacy rules prevented her from disclosing the specific information that was used to bar Badawi, and she said she did not know what database that information came from. The U.S. Embassy in London did not respond to a request to discuss the case.
On Sunday, Badawi joined other British religious leaders in condemning the July 7 bombings that killed at least 53 people in London. He appeared with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, Free Churches Moderator David Coffey and Chief Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks.
Azim Nanji, director of the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London and a participant in the Chautauqua conference, said he was "deeply saddened" by the exclusion of a "moderate voice." "I felt it was very important that Americans should hear, particularly at this time, a voice from a leading British Muslim who is well respected by the British government, somebody they turn to for advice," Nanji said. Badawi said authorities didn't give him a reason for denying him entry to the United States. "The people I was speaking to were very junior people, and they are just executing things they were told," he said. "They were very, very embarrassed, and I felt sorry for them."
Badawi said he had visited the United States many times before, the last time in 2003. He also was given an honorary knighthood in Britain and in 2003 he was among the guests of Queen Elizabeth II at a state banquet for President Bush British police believe they have identified all four suicide bombers who carried out the attacks but were still trying to determine who organized the operation. Two militant Islamic groups purportedly have claimed responsibility.
Dr. Eboo Papel, founder and executive director of the Chicago-based Interfaith Youth Core, had come to the conference to hear Badawi. He said one of the major challenges for the U.S. is to create a multifaith society where people understand each other's religion. "Inviting the Dr. Badawis of the world into that conversation is crucial," he said. "It's clear that a large segment of the Muslim community wants to be in a positive relationship with Western societies." Tom Becker, president of the Chautauqua Institution, south of Buffalo in western New York state, said he didn't know why Badawi was barred. "Whatever it was some kind of misinterpretation of something," he said.

In September, Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, was ejected from the United States without explanation. Islam's flight from London was forced to make an emergency landing in Maine when U.S. authorities discovered he was aboard.

Bismillah-hirrahmaan-nirraheem
In the name of Allah, The Most Compassionate, The Most Merciful
In the ongoing conflict between the West and the Middle East, one should not lose sight of the fact that the so-called "war against terrorism" is multidimensional and thus needs to be looked at from various different angles. Whilst the western media has succeeded in brainwashing the masses into believing that "Muslim fanatics", "Muslim extremists" and "Muslim terrorists" are hell bent on destroying their so-called "freedom" and "way of life", many would argue that this reasoning holds absolutely no weight when one examines the many other dimensions in this conflict.
Let us trace our footsteps back to 9/11 when all this madness supposedly began. I say "supposedly" because it is not entirely true that 9/11 was the beginning of the madness. In fact, 9/11 was a tragic consequence of madness. From out of the blues, America was struck at the heart of their pride and democracy. Still reeling from shock, the US government fabricated far-fetched evidence, such as the finding of a lone Arab passport (intact, I might add! ) amidst the total destruction of the World Trade Center and thus justified their Crusade against Muslims. As the crusade progressed a bogeyman was created in order to further their cause and the bogeyman is none other than the Muslim Ummah! "Al-Qaeda" is merely a figment of their imagination which they are trying desperately to bring to life in order to gain global support each time they decide to murder, massacre, torture, maim and oppress innocent Muslims.
A chain of events followed 9/11 which like a tennis match saw the ball landing in the opposite court each time and each time the ball was returned more viciously and more vigorously by the enemies of Islam. Like an unending volley the game continues but the players are now exhausted. The pride and arrogance of the enemies of Islam will not allow them to concede defeat and the suffering and desperation of the Muslims will not allow them to concede defeat either. It is pretty obvious that the so-called "war on terror" is losing its momentum as more and more sensible people throughout the world are beginning to question and probe the ridiculous and often ludicrous assumptions, accusations and theories which the enemies of Islam continuously bombard the masses with via the Zionist controlled media. This together with the fact that the troops which the enemies of Islam are sending to Afghanistan, Iraq and elsewhere in order to oppress and
suppress the Muslims are returning home in body bags, is disturbing many who believed the lies which were cunningly fed to them. Citizens of the enemy States agreed to send their loved ones to fight for what they thought was a worthy cause. But soon they realized that they had mistakenly sent their loved ones to fight unjust and illegal wars which were being fought in order to benefit an elite few and not their respected Nations.
Most of the support for the so-called "war on terror" emanated from Europe, Asia and America due to the fact that people of those countries were being convinced of the threat which the so-called "uncivilized" Muslim terrorists were posing to the rest of the so-called "civilized" world. Little did they suspect or know that they were being convinced by deception! But now that most people have a wider view of events, thanks to advanced technology, which most people in so-called first world countries fortunately have access to, they are seeing through the deception and reading between the lines. The use of alternate news sources, internet etc. is allowing them to see things in a different and clearer light. This is precisely the reason why the support for the so-called "war on terror" is gradually dwindling. In light of this, the Masters of the game realize that something has to be done before their game falls apart and comes to an unsuccessful end. To save
themselves from Humiliation and defeat they had to work hard once again to come up with a quick solution to this enormous problem which could prove to be a serious setback to their evil cause. They had to do something to end the stalemate situation, thus the rise of the G8 and it’s carefully thought out agenda focussing on AFRICA.
Why Africa? Africa, with it’s significant population, vast resources and huge Muslim population, had to be towed in together with the rest of the world in order to enhance and bring back to life the so-called "war against terror". Whilst the so-called "civilized’ countries needed promises of being recognized by the high and mighty America by signing deals which would ultimately serve each of their self-interests, Africa proves to be a walkover due to it’s main weaknesses…poverty and aids!
As African

Love Me Tender
By Chris FloydPublished: July 15, 2005
They were still scraping body parts out of the blasted carriages in the London Underground last week when the terrorists brazenly announced a harvest of blood fruits from their murderous campaign. The declaration -- bone-chilling in its moral nullity, its brutal cynicism -- was made in the fearsome name of Jihad. That would be Asim Jihad, of course, spokesman for the Iraqi Oil Ministry. Yes, just one day after London's agony, the state terrorists who perpetrated the ongoing mass atrocity of aggressive war in Iraq celebrated an important victory in their campaign of violence and fear: 11 juicy oil fields are being put up for tender to international investors, AdnKronos International reports. The corporate cornucopia of these fertile fields in oil-laden southern Iraq -- 3 million barrels per day, said Jihad -- will surpass the nation's entire current output of 2.2 million bpd: rich pickings for the oil barons whose branch office in the White House has
done such outstanding advance work for them. With oil prices soaring past $60 per barrel -- on their way to the $100 mark in the near future, some experts say -- the $25 billion ante that the Iraqis are seeking will be a small price to pay for a seat at this game.

But goodness gracious me -- as Pentagon pump-jockey Don Rumsfeld would say, in that prim spinster patois he likes to affect when wiping blood off his hands -- nobody in their right mind believes all that money will actually go to the Oil Ministry, which will maintain ostensible control of the sold-off fields for the alleged benefit of the Iraqi people. Heavens to Betsy, no!Some of the loot will be skimmed by Bushist-favored bagmen in the new Baghdad regime.
Some will be siphoned off to fund the death-dealing, torture-happy goon squads now operating on behalf of various factions in the government. Some will be kicked back to the oil barons. And some will be smuggled into slush funds for covert ops, mercenaries, campaign hijinks in the Homeland and "retirement packages" for good and faithful servants of the Bush war machine. How do we know this will happen? Because it has already happened to Iraqi oil money that fell into the hands of the profiteer-in-chief, President George W. Bush. According to detailed audits and investigations by Congress, the Pentagon, the General Accountability Office, the International Advisory and Monitoring Board, and the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction, more than $8.8 billion in Iraqi money under Bush's control simply went walking between October 2003 and July 2004, the London Review of Books reports. These were revenues supposedly earmarked for the Iraqi government -- but no one knows
where they actually went, except for a few dollops that investigators found were bankrolling many of the worthy endeavors outlined above. And this epic rapine -- looting on a scale not seen since the days of the Mongol Horde -- is just a single rivulet in the vast delta of corruption draining the conquered land. Christian Aid estimates that an additional $4 billion in unmetered oil export revenue was sold off under the counter, Saddam-style, to coalition cronies. Then there were the planeloads of cold cash spread around by Bush's "Provisional Authority" -- off the books, natch -- to "couriers," brokers, Western contractors, tribal leaders, "intelligence assets" and anyone else who had the moxie to put their hands out at the right time. All of this money was stolen from the Iraqi people. In fact, every bit of Iraq's oil money was seized by Bush and transferred to New York's Federal Reserve Bank in May 2003. Perhaps this was the operation Bush was referring to in his
ballyhooed "Mission Accomplished" declaration that same month. (He certainly couldn't have been talking about the military mission -- not with "major combat operations" still being launched even as we speak.) And oil revenues kept flowing to Bush's bank account after the conquest. All told, by the time Bush's personal viceroy, Jerry Bremer, did his "last days of Saigon" bug-out from Baghdad last year, the Crawford Caligula had run through $20 billion of Iraq's oil money.
