[IslamCity] Christian Fundamentalists Call For Full -Scale Crusade Against The Entire World
From: Montreal Muslim News Date: 11/17/05 22:07:38Subject: Christian Fundamentalists Call For Full -Scale Crusade Against The Entire WorldAmerican Christian Fundamentalist Leader Calls For Global WarYoginder Sikand17 November, 2005 Countercurrents.orghttp://www.countercurrents.org/us-sikand171105.htmIf Christian fundamentalists are to be believed, America's invasion of Iraq and the consequent brutal slaughter of thousands of innocent civilians in that country are all part of a grand divine plan that will finally culminate in the 'second coming' of Jesus Christ. Establishing an empire that will extend all over the globe, Christ will rule like a powerful monarch, saving those who believe in him and dispatching non-believers, all non-Christians and non-conformist Christians, to everlasting perdition in hell. This is no childish nonsense for millions of Christian fundamentalists, who sincerely believe this to be predicted in the Bible. Not surprisingly, American Christian fundamentalists are today among the most fanatic supporters of Bush's global imperialist wars, in Iraq and elsewhere, which they see as in keeping with the divine mandate. They are no eccentric or lunatic fringe elements, for today Christian fundamentalists exercise a powerful influence in American politics. Among them is George Bush himself, who insists that the American invasion of Iraq has been sanctioned by God, with whom he claims to be in personal communication. While the Western press is awash with stories, real and exaggerated, about 'Islamic fundamentalists', rarely is mention made about Christian fundamentalists, who, with their vast resources and close links with the current American administration, are a potentially more menacing threat than their Muslim counterparts. According to newspaper reports more than a third of Americans are associated with one or the other Christian fundamentalist outfit, most of which are fiercely anti-communist, anti-Muslim and are passionate advocates of free-market capitalism, global American hegemony and the myth of the civilizing mission of white America. In recent years, these fundamentalist groups have been engaged in aggressive missionary work in other countries as well, including in the so-called 'Third World'. Fired by a passionate hatred for other religions, which they dismiss as 'false' and even 'Satanic', they are today among the most well-funded missionary groups in large parts of Asia and Africa. Crusading for Christ, these fundamentalist groups are not simply out fishing for souls. Rather, for them Christianity is only part of the agenda, which also includes aggressively promoting American and Zionist interests. Today, these groups preach not only Christ but also Pax Americana and even American-led imperialist wars, which they bless as holy causes to usher in the final arrival of Jesus.Texas-based author and preacher Michael Evans is one of the most notorious American Christian fundamentalist preachers today, a passionate advocate of war in the name of Christ. In a recently published book, titled 'Beyond Iraq: The Next Move-Ancient Prophecy and Modern-Day Conspiracy Collide' (Whitestone Books, Florida, 2003), he spells out a grand design for American global hegemony, blessed in the guise of a holy global war. Key players in this 'divine' plot include the CIA, the American government and army, and Israel, besides various Christian fundamentalist outfits. The book is dedicated, among others, to what Evans describes as 'two old friends', Ehud Olmert, former Israeli Vice President, and the former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. Equally revealingly, the book begins with a quotation which graces the lobby of the original headquarters of the CIA.Evans is no petty crank who claims to be God-possessed, although his writings might seem to suggest that. The jacket of the book describes him as a 'TIME magazine best-selling author', who has appeared on the BBC and on American television channels and who has written for such papers as the Wall Street Journal and the Jerusalem Post. He hobnobs with the highest of American and Israeli politicians and religious leaders, and is evidently taken very seriously in Christian fundamentalist circles. That Evans is also a passionate Bush-backer is amply evident in his clam that, 'I know, from a first hand, personal interview with him that Bush is a man of faith who believes in the Bible'.Evans is the founder of the 'Jerusalem Prayer Team', which, he says, he established after having been visited by God in a vision. Among those who participated in the inauguration of his outfit were such names as Franklin Graham, Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell, all notorious American Christian fundamentalist leaders, Governor Dick Perry and Representative Dick Armey, and Benjamin Netanyahu, former Israeli Prime Minister. Thousands of others in America and elsewhere, so he claims, have joined his movement

[IslamCity] 16 Year Old
At the Age of SixteenA German Teen Discovers Islam By Melissa Hardy September 14, 2005 Our Father who art in Heaven, hollowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven, give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. I prayed before I slept. I was about 13 then. My friends and I thought it was the coolest thing in the World to be Christians. We all went to church together on Sundays and Youth on Wednesday at the Baptist Church that is now known as Gateway Church on Tulare St. and Conyer. We were all die hard Christian punks. We went to shows that had Christian bands playing and listened to Footklan and Living Sacrifice. Dead to the World, and alive in Christ!! we would shout as the band got ready to play their next song. About a year went by like this. My friends even took me to the Vans Warped Tour in 2002. I was 14 when I began thinking to myself, Religion shouldnt be a fad. Come to think of it, I only believe this because my friends do. I immediately went to my Youth Pastor. I told him how I felt and what my questions were. He gave me little workbooks that were supposed to help guide me on my path. My questions were serious; not just silly questions kids think of. Mine were likewhy does God have a son? How can God and his son be one including the Holy Spirit? What is the Holy Spirit? Since God and Jesus are one, and Jesus died on the cross Did God die then too?some answers he did have, but others he just said to me, It takes faith. Faith, I thought to myself. Faith? He is telling me I need to have faith to know that the basis of my religion is real and true? Later I went to a priest and asked him the same questions. I got the same answers. I went to the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church and asked him the same questions. Again, I got the same answers. I went home to think and gather my thoughts together. Judaism!! I thought. Its like the backbone of Christianity. If Christians werent right then Jews have to be! I thought. I started reading online about Jewish beliefs, culture, and tradition. I fell in love. I downloaded Jewish songs and bought movies by Jewish producers and writers. I wept and wept watching Schindlers List and The Pianist. I felt betrayed by my own countrymen. (Im German) I felt angry towards Palestinians and love for Israel and its people. I went to the Synagogue, Temple Bnai David, every Friday on Chinowth and Tulare. I tried teaching myself Hebrew. I found out that Reformed Jews allow women to wear yarmulkes. So, I immediately went and bought one. I wore it with pride in the Temple, I wore it to school, and downtown with my friends. Now I was a Jewish punk. I wanted to start a band named The Mad Rabbis. I wanted to be a Rabbi. Time went on and I turned 15. Despite the passion I had for this beautiful religion, I saw the huge hole it had in it. I felt there was something missing. There was no Jesus. I completely tried to forget about him. As much as I tried, I just couldnt. So, I thought to myself, Judaism cant be it. As much as I want it to be, it just cant. I cant believe in something knowing there is a void. At that time I just felt completely lost. I didnt know what to do. I gave up. My friends started to go astray from their religion also. But the path they took was the rough one. Smoking, drinking, and partying were their way of release from what they felt. And unfortunately I began to hang out with them more. So, I picked up the habit of smoking. I drank once, but I got so sick that I never did it again. And just the thought of alcohol still makes me nauseous. I eventually got back into my search for myself after a few months. I remembered this one religion I heard ofIslam. And thats pretty much all I knew about it. That it was called Islam and that its an Arab religion. I decided to read about it. I bought a couple of books, but I mostly went to Islamic websites like http://www.islamonline.net. I studied this new, foreign, and misunderstood religion not knowing that it would change my life forever. What was this? Thats how you pray? There is no God but God? Fasting? Charity? Pilgrimage to Mecca? Mecca? I read on and on. I learned that the people on 9/11 who called themselves Muslims were going against what their religion taught them. I found a verse in the Quran that says if you take one life it's like taking the lives of all humanity, and if you save one life it's like saving all of humanity. I read that women had the right to education, divorce, owning homes, driving, etc. They have every right as any woman living in America. I found out that culture and religion differ a lot. I began to pray as best as I could. I memorized all the Arabic and all the movements. I gained respect for my parents. I stopped smoking. I fasted
[IslamCity] Intl. Probe Into Abuses by Iraqi Govt. Urged
Intl. Probe Into Abuses by Iraqi Govt. Urged http://www.islamonline.net/English/News/2005-11/16/article03.shtml One of the detainees shows burns on his body.(Click for more photos) BAGHDAD, November 16, 2005 (IslamOnline.net News Agencies) US-backed Iraqi government faced calls Wednesday, November 16, for an international enquiry into abuse of Sunnis at a secret prison in Baghdad where inmates were reportedly tortured, beaten and starved. The call by the Sunni-based Islamic Party follows revelations that more than 170 detainees, mostly Sunnis, were illegally held at a center run by the Shiite-dominated interior ministry, in a case likely to embarrass the US military supervising local security forces, reported Agence France-Presse (AFP). "We insist on having an international investigation," Islamic Party spokesman Alaa Makki told AFP. "There have been similar cases in the past and investigations into them led to nothing," said another party spokesman, Ayad Samarrai. "We want an international and impartial inquiry as we are beginning to think there are people high up in government who are responsible, or at least accomplices." Makki also blamed US-led forces for the abuse, saying it could not happen without "their green light". US occupation forces raided the underground facilities of an interior ministry complex in south Baghdad Sunday in search for a teenager and were stunned by the presence of almost 200 detainees, some of them were already dead of torture, according to Al-Jazeera. US forces in Iraq claimed they did not know of such hidden prisons. Resignation "I was informed that there were 173 detainees held at an Interior Ministry prison and they appear to be malnourished," Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari told reporters. In a press conference Wednesday over the issue, Islamic Party official Tariq Al-Hashemi said the party wanted justice for the people of Iraq. In case the Interior Ministry was proven guilty in these practices, the minister and his staff have to resign and stand trial for human rights violations, Hashemi added. "We have presented over 50 complaints to the interior ministry, the Iraqi government and the US occupation forces," said Hashemi, adding "We only received few replies and they all were either denials or resentment (at the abuses)". "Such crimes are committed by parties who wish to curb the political process, to stop Sunnis from taking part in the coming elections within only one month, to hinder our election campaigns," he charged. Iraqi Supreme Shiite scholar Ayatollah Ali Al-Sistani should condemn crimes committed by the interior ministry officials, said Hashemi, adding that Sistani should not provide protection for those involved. Iraqi Sunni leaders have warned several times that continued military and police crackdowns were alienating their community in the run-up to December elections for a new parliament amid stark warnings from the UN on human rights violations. As Iraqis are gearing up for the upcoming polls, crackdowns on Sunnis have been noticeably increased, the People of Iraq Congress said in a statement Sunday, November 13, a copy of which was obtained by IslamOnline.net. EU Concerned Rumsfeld under fire over "lion" interrogators. (Reuters) The European Union, for its part, voiced its concern over the abuse at an Iraqi government detention center, saying it showed the need to bolster human rights in the violence-scarred country. EU external relations commissioner Benita Ferrero-Waldner noted that Prime Minister Ibrahim Jaafari had ordered an investigation into the reports, and stressed that the facts were not yet confirmed. But she said: "If it were so, it's clear ... that human rights are part of our very, very strong values, and those values that we want also to export to Iraq." Speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, she recalled that the EU agreed earlier this year to fund training of Iraqi judges and senior police. "What we can do is to contribute ... by building up a police corps that does not torture, a police corps that really knows where the limits are, but at the same time tries to restore order," she said. Speaking for the EU's British presidency, junior minister Lord Bach said that the EU had earlier this month "noted with concern recent reports .. of human rights violations by the Iraqi security forces." "Any human rights abuses ... should be investigated and dealt with in a proper sensible way," he told the Strasbourg assembly. The notorious US-run Abu Ghraib prison has been the scene of horrifying abuse cases that appalled the international community and led to worldwide demonstrations against the US torture policy. The revelations come just a month before Iraq is to go to the polls in to elect a permanent government, the latest stage in the country's political

[IslamCity] Effective Communication
AsSalaam O Alaikum ÈÓã Çááå ÇáÑÍãä ÇáÑÍíã In the Name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Effective Communication Never Stop: Listening, Learning and Thinking. Repetition and Reminding is a Key to success of Effective Communication Dont LOSE your TEMPER and go for TABLE TALK with a Positive Attitude Scholars had done the Best BUT they are NOT Allah and may do mistakes Great Thanks to Great Scholars, who saved the Ummah and kept the Islaam Alive Effective communication is important for living systems for power, control and survival. Without effective communication societies or systems cannot organize themselves or perform desired functions. Living systems or societies are information processing units and information can only be communicated effectively if the communication channels are free from any disturbance or noise. As an example: For transactions in banks, they need error free transactions, NOT A SINGLE MISTAKE. Allah also points towards Effective Communication, we need to open our eyes little deeper from inside of our heart to understand it: When the Quraan is read, listen to it with attention, and hold your peace: that ye may receive mercy (otherwise may be not). [Al_Quraan_007.204] (To get real Mercy of Allah, you must have to listen carefully in a (noise free environment) when the Quraan is read in a Group otherwise you may not get the real MERCY from Allah. Some People might take time to understand an issue, while other may take very less time. The problem in taking time to understand an issue could be, the intellectuality levels or wrong pre-assumptions of the individual person. Intellectuality level takes time, since there is no other solution than just to wait till the person acquires more knowledge. Remember a person takes around 20 years of age (time) to become a Professional Doctor. Every thing takes times. Pre-assumptions take times, since it might have wrong pre-assumptions, which is Haraam. I would like to give an example here to make it more understandable: Suppose you have Alcohol, which is Haraam, and Clean Water, which is Halaal and you, need to fill a glass with Clean Water. The problem could be that the glass might have filled up with Alcohol, so in order to fill the glass with clean water, you need to take out Alcohol completely and also rinse it properly. Even a single drop of Alcohol will make the glass of water Haraam. While it is very easy to fill an empty glass with clean water and takes very less time. So in order to understand some of the logic, you might need to clean our heart with justice and truthfulness with Allah. Be Careful when discussing the Ayaat of the Quraan, and be HONEST to Allah, otherwise it might put you into the category of Liars to Quraan, which is an Extremely Dangerous shirk. Instead of LOOSING your TEMPER go for TABLE TALK with a Positive Attitude. Always make Duaa that If I am wrong, May Allah Correct Me. If You are Wrong, May Allah Correct You. If We both are wrong, May Allah Correct both of Us. AMEEN. By Denying the Ayaat of Quraan, may cause you to fall in the category of looking for other Religion, so Be Careful: O ye who believe! Whoso of you becomes a renegade from his religion, (know that in his stead) Allah will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers, striving in the way of Allah and fearing not the blame of any blamer. Such is the grace of Allah, which He gives unto whom He will. Allah is All Embracing, All Knowing. [Al_Quraan_005.054] Trying to Change the Ayaat of Quraan by Denying it, may cause you into the category of Liar to Quraan. Even Rasool Allah (SAW) did NOT had Authority to change any of the Ayaat of Quraan, so Be Careful: But when our Clear Signs are rehearsed unto them, those who rest not their hope on their meeting with Us, say: bring us reading other than this, or change this, say: it is NOT for me, of my own accord, to change it: I follow Naught but what is revealed unto me (as is): if I were to disobey my Lord, I should myself fear the Penalty of a great day (to come). Say: If Allah had to willed, I should not have rehearsed it to you, nor would he have made it known to you. A whole lifetime before this have I tarried amongst you: will ye not then understand? (Al_Quraan_010.015 016) And recite (and teach) what has been revealed to thee of the Book of thy Lord: none can change his words, and none wilt thou find as a refuge other than him. (Al_Quraan_018.027) For Speakers, Writers and Teachers or Instructors: Dear Scholars, You are great, doing very great job, BUT we are unable to understand you. May be your level of communication is very high; so it is not effective and you are fail to communicate the Great Message of Deen to us. If you really want to transfer your knowledge, below are my advise. Advise to Scholars: For an effective communication, Level, Language and Timing should be accurate. Perhaps, you need to come a little lower
[IslamCity] Life With the TV
Life With the TV Not everything that comes through TV is bad. However, because the average child between two and 11 years old watches over 27 hours of poorly supervised television per week; because the only thing that kids do more than watch television is sleep, and because most parents are unaware of the indecent liberties that television takes with our children, you must control this 19 inch Shaitan, as a friend of mine calls it.1) Halal (permissible) and Haram (forbidden) on TV: TV programs include stirring documentaries about history, science, and nature as well as excellent dramatizations of classics. It also includes a lot of Haram in terms of violence, sex, antifamily and anti-Islamic values in cartoons, sitcoms, talk shows and films. It's the job of parents to observe Halal and Haram on TV programs and guide their children. One rule you can use when teaching your kids the right and wrong of television is the following: if it's Haram to do then, it's Haram to watch.2) TV Rules for Children: A carefully programmed TV can be a beneficial ally! Set clear rules for your children on how much TV they can watch, when they can watch it, and which shows are permitted. Then stick to your policy no matter how many tears and voices protest. You are the boss. You can unplug the television whenever you want to. 3) Don't Just Allow "Watching TV": Allow children to watch a particular program which you have approved, not just "watch TV."4) No Channel Surfing: Channel surfing usually means watching the worst of the shows which are on at any given moment. More stops at sex and violence scenes.5) Homework First: Insist that homework and chores be done before TV is turned on. (No this is not considered child abuse, not at least in Illinois where I live.) Only one in ten parents require children to do homework first at this moment.6) Watch Together: Watch TV with your children. It will be lots of fun. You might have some topics to talk about later. You may share some laughter as well. If you cannot watch with them all the time, at least do it occasionally.7) Talk to Children about the Programs: Talking to your children about the programs they watched or you watched together will give you an opportunity to debrief them about the rights and wrongs in them.8) Never Use TV as Babysitter: No matter what, don't just train your little Muslim to become an avid TV watcher by letting TV calm him down when he is crying or when you want to do something else other than attend to the baby. Also make this rule clear to the babysitters you hire as well. If you have no choice but to subject you child to a daycare center, choose one which does not use TV as its control mechanism. Seventy percent of daycare centers use TV during a typical day.9) A Smaller Screen is Better: A small-sized TV is better than a larger size TV. The larger size encourages worse watching habits. 10) One TV is Better than Two: One TV placed in the living room will help you keep an eye on what is being watched. A TV in your child's bedroom is the worst thing. It is not that you don't trust your children. It is the TV which you don't trust. The average household in America has 2.24 TVs in their homes and 54 percent of kids in America have a TV in their bedrooms.11) No Cable Channels: With a few exceptions, cable provides more of the bad TV and adult-oriented programming. I was staying at a pious Muslim's home as the TV brought a rush of his kids in the room I was staying in. To my astonishment, they ignored their "uncle's" presence and protest as they intensely watched a hot nude sex scene on some cable channel. Recently in Florida, during the daytime, a cable company showed adult programs. 12) Encourage Commercial-Free Channels: Public Television and other Commercial Free TV have more informative programs. It is estimated that the average child sees 20,000 commercials per year. Unlike adults, who often mute out commercials, or who get up and make a mad dash for the bathroom during the 60 to 180 seconds, children like TV ads. They like to be told what to lobby for...and lobby they do.13) VCR Gives Parents More Control: VCR gives you control of TV time and programs. Many parents use the VCR more than television programs broadcast scheduled times. Balance your TV consumption with videos of good programming offered by Muslims and non-Muslims. This will be more in your control and will contribute to the learning process of children. Some of the good video programs could be as good as anything on TV. Adam's World for children ages two to nine is one such video series. Tens of thousands of children learn and have fun with Adam and Aneesah. One day, I noticed Sister Lonnie Ali (Champion Muhammad Ali's wife) had ordered another set of Adam's World. Since I knew they had a complete set of Adam's World, I asked why she was buying another one. She told me that Asad (their son) had watched Adam's World so many times that all the tapes were worn out. She said he

[IslamCity] Disregard their annoyances and put your Trust in Allah..
IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL 41 O believers! Remember Allah as a frequent remembrance, 42 and glorify Him morning and evening. 43 It is He Who sends His blessings on you (believers) and so do His angels, that He may bring you out of darkness into light, for He is Merciful to the believers. 44 On the Day of their meeting with Him, their greeting shall be: Salaam (peace)!: and He has prepared for them a generous reward. 45 O Prophet! Surely We have sent you as a witness, as a bearer of good news and as a Warner, 46 and to call the people towards Allah by His leave and a lamp spreading light (guidance). 47 Give good news to the believers that they shall have great blessings from Allah. 48 Do not obey the unbelievers and the hypocrites, disregard their annoyances and put your trust in Allah; for Allah is sufficient as a disposer of affairs. [IslamCity] DAJJAL BUSH SLIDES DOWN THE RAZOR BLADE OF LIFE
Bush keeps on sliding AFP 18/11/2005 http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1836612,00.html New York - President George W Bush's job approval rating has touched a new low of 34%, according to a US survey published on Thursday by Harris Interactive. While one in three Americans rated Bush's performance in the White house as positive, 65% said it was only fair or poor, the poll showed. Bush's approval rating has been slipping from 50% when he was re-elected in November 2004, to 45% in June to 40% in August of this year, according to the New York-based pollster. In 2001, at the start of his first four-year term, Bush enjoyed a 56% approval rating, which shot up to 88% after the September 11, 2001 attacks in the United States. In April 2003, as the United States geared up for an invasion of Iraq, 70% of Americans approved of the Republican president's job performance, but his approval ratings had been steadily falling for a year. Compared with other two-term presidents at a similar point in their mandates, Bush is now slightly more popular than Richard Nixon's 29% approval rating. At the end of their fifth year in office, Lyndon Johnson had a 67% rating, Ronald Reagan 66% and Bill Clinton 58%. In the latest Harris survey, Vice President Dick Cheney fared even worse than his boss, with just 30% of Americans believing he was doing a good job, down from 35% in August. Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld matched Bush with a 34% approval rating, sliding from 40% in the previous poll. Sixty-eight of those polled said the country was on the wrong track, while 27% said it was headed in the right direction. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice remains the public's favourite in the Bush administration, but her star is also falling, to 52% from 57% in August. The telephone survey of 1 011 Americans was conducted between November 8 and 13. http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_1836612,00.html Yahoo! [IslamCity] SAHABA E RASOOL S.A. - HAZRAT ABDULLAH IBN JAHSH
ABDULLAH IBN JAHSH Abdullah ibn Jahsh was a cousin of the Prophet and his sister, Zaynab bint Jahsh, was a wife of the Prophet. He was the first to head a group of Muslims on an expedition and so was the first to be called Amir al-Mumineen-- Commander of the Believers. Abdullah ibn Jahsh became a Muslim before the Prophet entered the House of al-Arqam which became a meeting place, a school and a place of refuge for the early Muslims. He was thus one of the first to accept Islam. When the Prophet gave permission for his Companions to emigrate to Madinah to avoid further persecution from the Quraysh, Abdullah ibn Jahsh was the second to leave, preceded only by Abu Salamah. Emigrating was not a new experience for Abdullah. He and some members of his immediate family had migrated before to Abyssinia. This time, however, his migration was on a far bigger scale. His family and relatives--men, women and children, migrated with him. In fact, his whole clan had become Muslims and accompanied him. There was an air of desolation as they left Makkah. Their homes appeared sad and depressed as if no one had lived there before. No sound of conversation emanated from behind those silent walls. Abdullah's clan were not long gone when the alerted Quraysh leaders came out and made the rounds of the districts in Makkah to find out which Muslims had left and who had remained. Among these leaders were Abu Jahl and Utbah ibn Rabiah. Utah looked at the houses of the Banu Jahsh through which the dusty winds were blowing. He banged on the doors and shouted: The houses of the Banu Jahsh have become empty and are weeping for its occupants. Who were these people anyway, said Abu Jahl derisively, that houses should weep for them. He then laid claim to the house of Abdullah ibn Jahsh. It was the most beautiful and expensive of the houses. He began to dispose freely of its contents as a king would share out his possessions . Later, when Abdullah ibn Jahsh heard what Abu Jahl had done to his house, he mentioned it to the Prophet, peace be upon him, who said: Aren't you satisfied, O Abdullah, with what God has given you instead, a house in Paradise? Yes, messenger of God, he replied, and became at peace with himself and completely satisfied. Abdullah ibn Jahsh had scarcely settled down in Madinah when he had to undergo one of the most testing experiences. He had just begun to taste something of the good and restful life under the sponsorship of the Ansar--after going through persecution at the hands of the Quraysh--when he had to be exposed to the severest test he had ever known in his life and carry out the most difficult assignment since he became a Muslim. The Prophet, peace and blessings of God be on him, commissioned eight of his Companions to carry out the first military assignment in Islam. Among them were Abdullah ibn Jahsh and Sad ibn Abi Waqqas. I appoint as your Commander the one who can best bear hunger and thirst, said the Prophet and gave the standard to Abdullah ibn Jahsh. He was thus the first to be made amir over a contingent of believers. The Prophet gave him precise instructions on the route he should take on the expedition and gave him a letter. He commanded Abdullah to read the letter only after two days' travel. After the expedition had been on its way for two days, Abdullah looked at the contents of the letter. It said, When you have read this letter, press on until you come to a place called Nakhlah between Taif and Makkah. From there observe the Quraysh and gather whatever information you can on them for us. At your command, O Prophet of God, exclaimed Abdullah as he finished reading the letter. Then he spoke to his colleagues: The Prophet has commanded me to proceed to Nakhlah to observe the Quraysh and gather information on them for him. He has also commanded me not to go further with anyone of you who is against the purpose of this expedition. So whoever desires martyrdom and is in total agreement with this expedition can accompany me. Whoever is not in agreement, may turn back without blame. At your command, O messenger of Allah, they all responded. We shall go with you, Abdullah, wherever the Prophet of God has commanded. The group continued until they reached Nakhlah and began to move along the mountain passes seeking information on Quraysh movements. While they were thus engaged, they saw in the distance a Quraysh caravan. There were four men in the caravan--Amr ibn al-Hadrami, Hukm ibn Kaysan, Uthman ibn Abdullah and his brother Mughirah. They were carrying merchandise for the Quraysh--skins, raisins and other usual Quraysh stock in trade. The Sahabah conferred together. It was the last day of the sacred months. If we were to kill them, they agreed, we would have killed them in the inviolable months. To do so would be to violate the sacredness of this month and expose ourselves to the wrath of all Arabs. If we leave them alone for a day so that the month will be completed, they would

Fasting for the First Time Freshman reflects on her conversion from Christianity to Islam ByGrace Low |Indiana Daily Student | Wednesday, November 16, 2005 Euphoric. That's how Laila Prescott felt when she put on the hajab for the first time. The hajab, or head-covering, is central to the identity of many Muslim women and represents Islam's overwhelming respect for women and reverence of modesty. "I didn't want to take it off," Prescott said. "It just felt right." The soft-spoken freshman officially converted from a Christian upbringing to Islam on Feb. 11.Having spent most of her teenage years going to school and working in a predominantly Muslim portion of Detroit, Laila was accustomed to Muslim culture but didn't "(Becoming Muslim) wasn't like buying a sweater, jumping onto some trend that you throw away next season. Once you know, it's with you for life. You don't want it to stop."Laila PrescottFreshmen know very much about Islam. During her senior year of high school, she worked at the gym in the local community center along with three young Muslim men who would eventually become some of her closest friends. Her curiosity about Islam was sparked by a lighthearted comment made by her boss that those three men "were the only ones there that she didn't have any dirt on." Their lifestyle of avoidance of alcohol, tobacco, sex and impropriety intrigued Laila. "I wanted to know what could make them want to do that, how their convictions could be so strong," Prescott said.In a three-hour conversation with co-worker Mohammad Waseem Imam, Laila asked questions about the tenets and fundamental beliefs of Islam, as well as the reasons behind his ascetic lifestyle. As the conversation progressed, she felt compelled to probe further and compare Islam to the non Trinitarian Christianity she had been raised with. By the end of her shift and the end of the conversation, she felt completely different. Imam had given her clear answers, and she realized the beliefs of Islam lined up with beliefs she already held. As she drove home, she knew she was changed. "Becoming Muslim wasn't a decision," she said. "I just knew in my heart that night that I was."Nine days later, Laila officially converted to Islam by proclaiming the Muslim declaration of faith, the Shahada, in the breakroom of the community center. Afterwards, she immediately went home to tell her parents. Even though she was elated by her new realization of faith, Laila already knew her parents would be less than supportive. She told her mother first, who reacted with shock and tears. Then she told her father, who became angry. "They were mostly surprised and irritated that, since I wasn't 18 yet, I hadn't come to them to discuss it as a family," she said. "But there wasn't anything they could have done about it. It wasn't something that could have been changed by consideration." Ten months later, Laila's parents are beginning to accept that her conversion isn't just a phase, and her religious ideas aren't the whims of a rebellious teenager."(Becoming Muslim) wasn't like buying a sweater, jumping onto some trend that you throw away next season," she said. "Once you know, it's with you for life. You don't want it stop."The month of October marked Laila's first observance of Ramadan, the monthlong Muslim holiday of daily fasting, intense prayer and intimate fellowship with other Muslims. In the Islamic tradition, Ramadan is the month when the prophet Mohammad received the Quran from the angel Gabriel. Observing Ramadan was a meaningful experience for Laila. The morning prayers and the evening fast-breaking parties, called the Iftar, helped her get much closer to members of the Bloomington Muslim community. She also noted that the fasting was not as difficult as one might expect. She said that there were only a few days, maybe two, when it would get hard close to fast-breaking time."There were definitely a few times when I wanted that Starbucks coffee or would stare down someone's Coke bottle while they were shoveling chips in their mouth during class," she said. "But mostly I was too busy to think about food." She also thought the campus Fast-a-Thon was very successful. "It's important to educate non-Muslims about Ramadan and it was awesome to be able to involve some of the girls from my floor in my experience," she said.Nov. 3 marked the end of this year's month of Ramadan with the three-day celebration called Eid. Laila began her Eid that Thursday morning at the Islamic Cultural Center on East Atwater Avenue with feasting, fellowship and a service whose theme was for Muslims to reward themselves and their families for keeping the month of Ramadan. After her Thursday classes ended, Laila left to Indianapolis for the weekend to celebrate the rest of Eid with her friend Sarah's family. Friday night, Sarah's family hosted an Eid party and feast at their tea shop where other Muslims sang, played music, read poetry and presented

Hijab costs woman French residency Thursday 17 November 2005, 20:23 Makka Time, 17:23 GMT France banned Muslim head scarves from schools last year Related: France expels students over hijab France hijab ban takes effect Tools: Email Article Print Article Send Your Feedback A Moroccan woman living legally in France for eight years has been refused a long-term residence card because she covers her hair with an Islamic head scarf, says her lawyer. A regional government official wrote in a rejection letter this month that the head scarf worn by Chetouani El Khamsa was a sign of Islamic fundamentalism, her lawyer Pascale Torgemen said on Thursday. Torgemen said El Khamsa planned to appeal and to file suit for what she contends is a discriminatory, racist and sexist decision. "Does this mean that a man with a beard is systematically Islamist, a fundamentalist?" the lawyer said.El Khamsa has lived legally in France - where her four children were born - since 1997, employed by her husband's business. To replace her current residence card that must be renewed annually, she wanted a residency permit that is valid for 10 years, like the one accorded her husband. But in a 2 November letter refusing her the 10-year card, Francois Praver, sub-prefect in the town of Raincy outside Paris, noted that during her interview, El Khamsa wore a head scarf "entirely covering your neck and the roots of your hair, comparable to a hijab, sign of belonging to a fundamentalist Islam". The lawyer gave a copy of the letter to The Associated Press. Hijab ban France, looking to uphold its secular foundations and discourage Islamic fundamentalism, last year banned Muslim head scarves and other conspicuous religious symbols from public schools. But the ban does not apply outside of classrooms. Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy has said women cannot wear head coverings in official identity photos. But Torgemen said that her client does not wear her head scarf for official photos - her head is uncovered in her Moroccan passport. Torgemen said she had not previously heard of a case of women being refused the 10-year residency card because their heads are covered. El Khamsa and her family are "people without a history, without problems", the lawyer said. "For me, this is discrimination. They compare the fact that one wears a scarf to fundamentalist Islam," she said. [IslamCity] SAHABA E RASOOL S.A. - HAZRAT ABDULLAH IBN MASUD R.A
ABDULLH IBN MASUD When he was still a youth, not yet past the age of puberty, he used to roam the mountain trails of Makkah far away from people, tending the flocks of a Quraysh chieftain, Uqbah ibn Muayt. People called him Ibn Umm Abd--the son of the mother of a slave. His real name was Abdullah and his father's name was Masud. The youth had heard the news of the Prophet who had appeared among his people but he did not attach any importance to it both because of his age and because he was usually far away from Makkan society. It was his custom to leave with the flock of Uqbah early in the morning and not return until nightfall. One day while tending the flocks, Abdullah saw two men, middle-aged and of dignified bearing, coming towards him from a distance. They were obviously very tired. They were also so thirsty that their lips and throat were quite dry. They came up to him, greeted him and said, Young man, milk one of these sheep for us that we may quench our thirst and recover our strength. I cannot, replied the young man. The sheep are not mine. I am only responsible for looking after them. The two men did not argue with him. In fact, although they were so thirsty, they were extremely pleased at the honest reply. The pleasure showed on their faces . . . The two men in fact were the blessed Prophet himself and his companion, Abu Bakr Siddiq. They had gone out on that day to the mountains of Makkah to escape the violent persecution of the Quraysh. The young man in turn was impressed with the Prophet and his companion and soon became quite attached to them. It was not long before Abdullah ibn Masud became a Muslim and offered to be in the service of the Prophet. The Prophet agreed and from that day the fortunate Abdullah ibn Masud gave up tending sheep in exchange for looking after the needs of the blessed Prophet. Abdullah ibn Masud remained closely attached to the Prophet. He would attend to his needs both inside and outside the house. He would accompany him on journeys and expeditions. He would wake him when he slept. He would shield him when he washed. He would carry his staff and his siwak (toothbrush) and attend to his other personal needs . Abdullah ibn Masud received a unique training in the household of the Prophet. He was under the guidance of the Prophet, he adopted his manner and followed his every trait until it was said of him, He was the closest to the Prophet in character. Abdullah was taught in the 'school of the Prophet. He was the best reciter of the Quran among the companions and he understood it better than them all. He was therefore the most knowledgeable on the Shariah. Nothing can illustrate this better than the story of the man who came to Umar ibn al-Khattab as he was standing on the plain of Arafat and said: I have come, O Amir al-Mumineen, from Kufah where I left a man filling copies of the Quran from memory. Umar became very angry and paced up and down beside his camel, fuming. Who is he? he asked. Abdullah ibn Masud, replied the man. Umar's anger subsided and he regained his composure. Woe to you, he said to the man. By God, I don't know of any person left who is more qualified in this matter than he is. Let me tell you about this. Umar continued: One night the Messenger of God, peace be upon him, was having a conversation with Abu Bakr about the situation of Muslims. I was with them. When the Prophet left, we left with him also and as we passed through the mosque, there was a man standing in Prayer whom we did not recognize. The Prophet stood and listened to him, then turned to us and said, 'Whoever wants to read the Quran as fresh as when it was revealed, then let him read according to the recitation of Ibn Umm Abd.' After the Prayer, as Abdullah sat making supplications, the Prophet, peace be on him, said, Ask and it will be given to you. Ask and it will be given to you. Umar continued: I said to myself, I shall go to Abdullah ibn Masud straight away and tell him the good news of the Prophet's ensuring acceptance of his supplications. I went and did so but found that Abu Bakr had gone before me and conveyed the good news to him. By God, I have never yet beaten Abu Bakr in the doing of any good. Abdullah ibn Masud attained such a knowledge of the Quran that he would say, By Him besides Whom there is no god, no verse of the book of God has been revealed without my knowing where it was revealed and the circumstances of its revelation. By God, if I know there was anyone who knew more of the Book of Allah, I will do whatever is in my power to be with him. Abdullah was not exaggerating in what he said about himself. Once Umar ibn al-Khattab met a caravan on one of his journeys as caliph. It was pitch dark and the caravan could not be seen properly. Umar ordered someone to hail the caravan. It happened that Abdullah ibn Masud was in it. From where do you come? asked Umar. From a deep valley, came the reply. (The expression used fajj amiq deep valley--is a

[IslamCity] Shaden Shehab takes stock of the first round of parliamentary elections in Egypt
Dear members of the list, Assalamu Alaikum. Please see AL- Ahram writerShaden Shehab's commentary on first round of Egyptian election. Shah Abdul Hannan Mixed messages Shaden Shehab takes stock of the first round of parliamentary elections Click to view caption ONGOING SPECTACLE: The first stage of this year's parliamentary elections are over; Tuesday's run-offs in 74 constituencies represented the end of a hotly-contested process involving thousands of candidates battling for hundreds of seats in eight of Egypt's 26 governorates. The rest of the country will go to the polls on 20 November and 1 December, meaning scenes like this will soon appear elsewhere. The posters make clear that the fiercest races will probably be between candidates from the ruling National Democratic Party and those from the Muslim Brotherhood, just like they were in the first round. Among the abiding images of the first stage of the parliamentary elections were shocking scenes screened by Al-Jazeera and watched by an estimated 40 million viewers of people throwing benches and chairs at one another while a woman screamed "forgery". The footage was shot in a polling station during Tuesday's parliamentary election run-offs. The government, which had repeatedly said elections would be free and fair, promised that the conduct of the poll would show the world that Egypt was moving ahead along the road to reform. Members of the ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) insist that this is still the case. The first stage of the poll, covering the governorates of Cairo, Giza, El-Menoufiya, El-Minya, Beni Sweif, Assiut, the New Valley and Marsa Matruh, began on 9 November. In the initial vote only 31 seats produced a clear result, leaving 133 seats up for grabs in Tuesday's run-offs. When the final results were announced the NDP had won 68 seats, the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) 34, the United National Front for Change (UNFC) six and the Ghad Party two. The remaining seats were won by independents. The victory of prominent members of the NDP's old guard -- including Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Kamal El-Shazli, Parliamentary Speaker Fathi Sorour and Chief of Presidential staff Zakaria Azmi -- seems to have put an end to speculation that they were a waning influence within the party. NDP stalwart Amal Othman, deputy chairman of the People's Assembly, also won though Egyptian TV earlier announced she had lost her seat to MB Hazem Abu Ismail. The NDP's businessmen candidates, accused by the opposition of spending millions to maintain their parliamentary seats, also secured comfortable victories. Meanwhile Ayman Nour, chairman of the Ghad Party, lost his parliamentary seat. Mounir Fakhry Abdel-Nour, leader of the Wafd's outgoing parliamentary bloc, was also unseated. Along with other losers Nour has filed an appeal with the Administrative Court alleging electoral fraud and asking that the results in their constituencies be annulled. On Sunday the court overturned the results in three constituencies, including Mounir Fakhry Abdel-Nour's Wayli seat. The results may have raised more than a few eyebrows but according to Mohamed Kamal, a leading member of the influential NDP Policies Secretariat "we should respect the will of the electorate." "The people had their own reasons in chosing who to vote for," Kamal told Al-Ahram Weekly, "most probably the services they are offered in their constituencies." Most commentators agree the Muslim Brotherhood emerge as the real winners of the first round. "The result confirms the Egyptian people stand behind the Brotherhood and the Brotherhood represents the strongest social and political group in Egypt," said Mohamed Habib, deputy supreme guide of the MB. The group fielded 52 candidates in the first round and plans to contest 110 of the 280 seats to be decided in the coming two stages. After more than 50 years of arrests and persecution the MB was allowed to contest the elections openly and under its slogan "Islam is the solution" ran the most organised campaign of any opposition group. The sudden show of official tolerance towards the MB raises many questions, and rumours of a "deal" between the NDP and its main

What came under scrutiny and interest was my hijab, and hence, a repeat of what usually follows when one observes my hijabified demeanour. The gist of the questioning was why I wear the hijab at such a young age. I was left reflecting at the thought that many around me are completely unaware of the many spiritual and social benefits of hijab, even if they don't wear it. For me, firstly, wearing a hijab is a way of showing that I really believe in those verses of the holy Qur'aan, which deal with the subject. To say that you believe in what is written is one thing, and to actually obey what is written is completely different. I know that I don't just want to say that I have faith in the holy Qur'aan -- I want to show it as well. And hence, after reading and understanding the following verses of the holy Quríaan, I feel that it would be a grave injustice to me if I didn't properly implement what I have learnt in my daily life. "And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their women or the servants whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O you believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain bliss." (Qur'aan 24:31) "O Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better, so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving, Merciful." (Qur'aan 33:59) Secondly, hijab is not just a head covering or a special gear. Hijab is an attitude. When I am wearing a hijab in public, I have to be extra careful about what I am doing. This is essentially because there is so much curiosity about those who wear hijab in general that if any hijabified lady indulges in something that has negative social ramifications or connotations; the entire community of girls wearing hijab is maligned. There is no dearth of people who actually find faults with the public and social behaviour of hijabified ladies, so that they can further their own case against hijab. However, wearing hijab generally leads to the performance of more good deeds and cementing of better relations with friends, relatives and neighbours. Dina Ebd Elaty in her article "The Blessings of Hijab" has beautifully put the above point in the following words: "It is not so much that I noticed a difference in other people, but I began noticing a difference in myself. The blessings of hijab manifested in a way, I had not expected. Somehow, by wearing the hijab, it reminded me that when it is time for prayer, I should not wait. When I am upset, I should not yell or get angry at someone. When I eat, I should remember to pronounce Bismillah before the meal and not throw away, what I can not eat. When I am happy, I should thank Allah (SWT) for his bounties, and when I am frustrated, I should seek His guidance and refuge. When I am about to speak ill of someone, I should hold my tongue." Also, hijab is a sure-fire way of doing Dawah, through answering people's questions and satiating their curiosity about it. Even a small, innocent question about why one wears hijab is enough to spark a thorough and lively discussion, which does enable the questioner to learn more about Muslim women and Islam. Such discussions not only clear many myths and wrong concepts regarding hijab, they also clarify the positions of both sides. Wearing hijab in an environment where nobody is wearing it is also another means of Dawah. This is because it enables others to actually come in close interaction with someone who has a completely different lifestyle and a totally unique outlook on life. Most of us cannot usually see beyond our own perceptions, no matter how
[IslamCity] Importants of Shawwal
Assalamu alaikum wa-rahmtullahi wa barkatuh. Is the tenth month of the Islamic Calendar. Meaning of the word Shawwaal:- Uplift/breakage. Before Islam, Arabs believed that any marriage held in Shawwaal would always turn out to be unsuccessful. Hence, the month deprived the above metioned meanings, however the superstitious belief was later abolished. The month Shawwal:- From the months of Hajj, Shawwaal is the first of them. The first day of Shawwal is Eid-Ul-Fitr and also the day when sins are forgiven. Six fasts of Shawwal:- In the month of Shawwal it is Sunnah to keep six fasts, as narrated in the following Hadith by Abu Ayyub Ansaru (R.A) that the Holy Prophet (saw) has said, "If one throughout his life keeps the fasts of Ramadan and keeps six consecutive fasts in Shawwal it will be as though he has kept a whole life time of fasts, and if one keeps the six consecutive fasts for one Shawwal month it will be as though he has observed fast all year round." (Muslim) 1) Hadrat Aa'ishah Siddiqah (R.A) was born in Shawwal four years after Prophethood which is nine years before Hijrah. 2) Hadrat Aa'ishah Siddiqah (R.A.) was married in this month ten years after Prophethood which is three years before Hijrah. 3) The fight between Banu Qaynaqaa took place between the battle of Badr and Uhud (Shawwal 2 A.H. after Hijrah) 4) The battle of Uhud also took place in Shawwal, three years after Hijrah. 5) Hadrat Hussain (R.A) th e Holy Prophet's (saw) grandson (son of Hadrat Fatima R.A.) was born in the month of Shawwal four years after Hijrah. 6) The Holy Prophet (saw) married Hadhrat Umme Salamah (R.A.) in Shawwal in the fourth year after Hijrah. 7 )Hadrat Aa'ishah Siddiqah's (R.A) mother passed away in 5 A.H. 8) The Holy Prophet's (saw) uncle Abu Talib departed from this world during the middle of Shawwal in the year 5 A.H. 9) Imam Bukhari (R.A.) was born on a Friday of Shawwal in the year 194 A.H. Beginning of the Ashur-ul-HajjShawwal is the first of the three months named as "Ashhur al-Hajj" (i.e. the months of Hajj). Although the major acts of Hajj are normally performed in the first ten days of Zulhijjah, yet the whole period starting from the first of Shawwal up to the 10th of Zulhijjah is held to be the period of Hajj because some acts of Hajj can be performed any time during this period. For example, the Tawaf-ul-qudum, followed by the Sai' of Hajj cannot be performed before Shawwal, while it can be performed any day after the beginning of Shawwal. Similarly, an 'Umrah performed before Shawwal cannot be treated as the 'Umrah of Tamattu: while the 'Umrah performed in Shawwal can be affiliated to the Hajj, making it a Hajj of Tamattu: Moreover, ihram of Hajj should not be started before Shawwal, because it makruh. For these reasons these three months have been named as the 'months of Hajj' and the month of Shawwal has the distinction of being the first of these. The second meritorious aspect of Shawwal is that it has been chosen by Allah Almighty for the celebration of "Eid-ul-fitr", one of the only two annual festivals recognized by the Shari'ah. This happy day is designed by the Shari'ah as a sign of gratefulness by the Muslims on the accomplishment of Ramadan, and as an immediate reward by Allah for those who spent the month of Ramadan in fasting and performing other forms of 'ibadah.Instead of commemorating an event from the past, the Shari'ah has prescribed the first of Shawwal as an annual festival for the Muslims at an occasion when they themselves accomplish a great 'ibadah. This approach reminds the Muslims that they should not rely only on the accomplishments of their ancestors, rather, they should themselves perform meritorious acts to please their Creator. In prescribing the ways to celebrate the happy day, Islam has adopted another unique approach. The festivals of other religions or nations normally comprise of some acts of rejoicing and enjoyment. The whole happy day is normally spent in dancing, singing and playing. In contrast, Islam has prescribed a simple yet graceful way to observe the happy day.Six Fasts in the Month of ShawwalIt is commendable to keep six fasts in the month of Shawwal. The Prophet, Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam, has said: Whoever completes fasts of Ramadan then adds to them the fast of six days in the month of Shawwal, it will carry the thawab of fasting for the whole year. (Sahih Muslim)This hadith had described the great thawab of six fasts of this month. Therefore, the Muslims should take this opportunity of acquiring such an enormous reward from Allah. It is more preferable to start these fasts from the 2nd of Shawwal and keep fasting up to the 7th of it. However, if, they are kept in other days, it is hoped that the requirement of the above hadith may also be fulfilled.Important Islamic Dates and Anniversaries of Shawwal : 1st - Eid al-Fitr 1st - Urs ; Hadrat Imam Fakhruddin Razi 4th - Nikah ; Bibi Hadrat Ayesha Siddeeqa 5th - Wissal ; Umm-al
RE: [IslamCity] Fw:174 member Pak delegation in Israel
Usually countries with responsible leadership send huge delegations and the head of the delegations are usually PMs or presidents. Their aim is to go to another country and invite investments and make agreements to open factories for creating jobs. But in Pakistan the leadership and central government's cabinet is composed of set of slackers, smugglers and robbers, they have sent hard core goonda elements from armed forces, etc. for enjoying holidays and dinners at the cost of the public exchequer. This is the first declared Pakistani delegation which has directly gone into Israeli Capital. The delegation arrived in Amman Jordan via Dobai and is believed to be comprising religious scholars, retired army officers, businessmen andsome officials.DG Middle East at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ms Humeira Hasan did not like to comment when approached by Pakistan Observer. Information officer ofthe FO however said that Ministry is not aware of any such delegation visiting Israel. He said Pakistan's position on sending delegation to Gaza and West Bank remains same which means that visit of Pakistani delegation has been delayed. Palestinian President Mr Mahmood Abbas during his visit to Pakistan had invited a Pakistani delegation to visit Gaza. But Palestinian Authority later signalled its inability to receive such a delegation due to its displeasure over the meeting of Pakistani and Israeli Foreign Ministers in Turkey. Reports from Israel confirmed that a 174-member non official Pakistani delegation has arrived in Tel Aviv Saturday, the report said. The visit comes after the first meeting between Pakistani and Israeli foreign ministers in Istanbul at the beginning of September. Representatives from Israel and Pakistan have been secretly holding talks for several months through diplomatic and informal channels.Israeli Military Radio reported earlier this month that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom will receive the delegation. The relations between the second most populous Muslim country in the world and the Jewish state have been hostile for decades, but began to warm up after Israel offered aid to Pakistan following this month's devastating earthquake, the Radio report said.Pakistan accepted Israeli offer, indicating that the sole Muslim nuclear power was cautiously moving towards better ties with Israel. Earlier this year President Pervez Musharraf and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon shook hands on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Two weeks prior to the famous handshake, the two countries foreign ministers met in Istanbul for the first-ever high-level meeting aimed at normalisingbilateral relations. Pakistan had decided to engage with Israel, its foreign minister said then, because Israel pulled out settlers and troops from the Gaza Strip and it constituted a turning point for the establishment of a Palestinian state.Israel currently has full diplomatic relations with only three Arab states namely Mauritania, Egypt and Jordan, and a handful of Muslim majority states including Turkey. The visit by Pakistani delegation has come a day after President General Pervez Musharraf's meeting with Jack Rozen, Chairman American Jewish Congress. President told Rozen that Pakistan would consider formally recognising Israel only after the creation of an independent Palestinian state. Pakistan, which has no diplomatic ties with Israel, has long demanded that the Jewish state end its occupation of Palestinian territory and that the Palestinian state should emerge on the world map with Jerusalem as its capital. During meeting, Rozen told President Musharraf that Israel wanted to establish diplomatic, trade and economic tieswith Islamabad. But Musharraf "clearly told him that establishment of an independent Palestinian state, was a must for any forward movement". Rozen informed Musharraf that the Jewish community in America was collecting donations for the victims of the 8 October earthquake. Pakistan had earlier declined an offer of direct aid from Israel after the quake, but said it could send aid through international relief organisations. Pakistan

[IslamCity] On How to Find Our Path
Fethullah Gulen's Web SiteHome Books The Statue of Our Souls: Revival in Islamic Thought and Activism On How to Find Our Path fgulen.com, 06.06.2005Since the day we were deprived of the inheritance of the Earth, the Islamic world has been in a heart-breaking plight, trapped between the weaknesses of the Muslims and the ruthless assaults of its enemies. Wrong, injustice, and oppression may be the signs of the aggressors, but the weaknesses of the Muslims are unacceptable. When the Messenger of God said, "O my Lord, I take refuge in you from the intrepidity of the sinners and from the weakness of the God-fearing" he was most probably referring to this fact. The fact that Muslim thought and reasoning were shaken and interrupted, that it stagnated and putrefied meant that the Muslims were misdirected, turned away from the straight path which takes its direction from the Quran and which orbits around the Prophet. This decay overshadowed the universality of Islam and prevented this universal religion from fulfilling its function. Clearly such deviation, which has become chronic among the Muslims of recent centuries and especially among Muslim leaders, cannot be eradicated by the establishment of a few schools, panels, and conferences. Nor can it even be fully understood in the course of a few ephemeral, fleeting speeches, lectures, and proposals. To eradicate this long-standing deviation, whose roots go back some several centuries and which is supported by the erroneous use of science and technology today, requires that we rediscover ourselves, find and know who we are, and reacquaint ourselves with Islamic consciousness and styles of thought and reasoning; it requires long-term effort, determined zeal, sufficient time, ceaseless patience, vigorous hope, unshakeable willpower and constant composure. If, however, we cannot find our own style and continue to seek a way out other than the very pit into which we have fallen, we will have both deceived ourselves and disappointed our generations once more. In view of this, there is an obligation for us to realize conception in order to view creation and events from the Islamic perspective and to examine everything with Islamic reasoning. To achieve this, our knowledge about humanity, life, and the universe should first be sound and in accord with the essence and reality of matter, on the same course and orbit as its origin and objectives; all its parts should support one another and collaborate; the whole and the parts should be related or interconnected, like different voices expressing the same theme, like a composition with a single rhythm and meter, like a central embroidered motif encircled by a repeating pattern. Every phenomenon or thing should be perceived and known as being in one way or another essentially and significantly interconnected with every other thing and with its surroundings. Second, since all things, beings, and phenomena in the universe are full of worlds of meaning, content, and wisdom, indeed, series, systems, or compositions of wisdom, like a book which is open to all beings and events, a dazzling, multi-faceted masterpiece full of profundities, reflecting and manifesting innumerable Divine works, reason and understanding should be employed to understand all these things and events, to comprehend the relationships between the smaller parts without becoming entangled in trivialities. Instead, by remaining aware of the general and the universal which lie behind and in the singular and particular, while venturing on into the general and universal in order to include the remotest areas of details and particulars we may be able to ensure that some parts of our work and studies, our proofs and confirmations, and differences of periods and times do not contradict, negate, or quash other parts. This should not be understood to mean that specialization or departmentalization should be ignored. Of course, each of us should specialize in our own field, strive for excellence in that career and achieve the desired objectives in our own area of work. However, while doing this, the meaning, content, status, and in particular, the aim and objectives of the whole should not be neglected. These should be realized in whatever way is appropriate, be it via a collective consciousness or by its proper channeling along with knowledge, or through excellent coordination, or by genius. There is no doubt that we are in need of such a universal (holistic) and comprehensive (inclusive) perspective, as well as a general and objective evaluation. Today we are in great need, above all else, of an objective mind which can see yesterday and today together, which can take humanity, life, and the universe into its perspective all at the same time, which can draw comparisons, which is receptive to the dimensions of the causes of and reasons for existence, which is cognizant of the scenarios of the rise, continuance, and fall of
