Re: [IslamCity] Re: WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIFE?

2006-07-16 Thread Syed Adil

Purpose of life has been a source of much conjecture and there are several ways in which it could be articulated. Each I believe is correct in its own way. I have tried to catch this diversity of interpretation in an article that I had written about a year back. Just in case it may be of interest to some I am copying the same below:

Syed Adil

The Creator and His Creation

Couplet in Urdu:
Iss Zarre ko rehti hai Wus'at ki haus har dum, Yeh zarra nahin shayad, simta huwa Sehra hai. Chahe to badal daale hayyat chamanistan ki, Yeh hasti daana hai, beena hai, tawaana hai.
I interpret this verse in the context of man in relation to the Creation. (Like a grain of sand he is seeking to measure his own expanse, only to realise that, as a grain he might well be the entire desert condensed in one. The Poet Allama Iqbal goes on to say that if one has the will, he can completely alter the face of his destiny because after all he is blessed with wisdom, vision and health).

Man and Universe though distinctly different are certainly not independent of this Creation; rather they are together a testimony to the creative genius of Allah SWT. Earth and the Sky, Substance and Energy, the sub-conscious and the conscious are all an amalgamation of a single Unit in the end as they depend on each other as a part of the one whole.

To Him belong the keys of the heavens and the earth. And those who disbelieve in the
Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, signs, revelations, etc.) of Allah, such are they who will be the losers. Az-Zumar 63. Indeed the keys to this Creation are in the hands of Allah SWT but He has given these keys to Man and has empowered him with the ability and resources to try and unravel the mysteries of nature and understand His Creation.
The root word ilm (knowledge) is derived from Aalam (Creation) and when we understand and accept in totality that this Creation is the work of the Creator
(Allah), we will also be able to understand, how man and the creation of Allah merge into one.

You are the best of peoples ever raised up for mankind; you enjoin Al-Maruf (the Islamic monotheism and all that Islam has ordained)
and forbid Al- Munkar (polytheism, disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden) and you believe in Allah. And had the people of the Scriptures (Jews and Christians)
believed, it would have been better for them; among them are some who have faith, but most of them are Al- Fasiqun (disobedient to Allah and rebellious against Allah's command). Aal Imran 110.
Allah goes on to stress here that just by having the keys, Man cannot open all doors and understand everything. Most likely can even be misguided if his belief system is based on
Al-Munkar and not Al-Maruf. Darwin
's theory of evolution comes to mind immediately as to how one can get so easily misled.

Further Allah goes on to say: Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. 3:190. Those who remember Allah (always and in prayers) standing, sitting and lying down on their sides and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying): "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to you! (Exalted are You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire. 3:191.
Here Allah is laying out a method that needs to be applied in order to understand and not be misguided as follows:

a) Foremost of all one has to be
Al- Maruf as described above.

b) Have absolute faith in Allah SWT. Establish Salaat and practice Dhikr so as to remain steadfast and unwavering and to remain Muttaqi (
Those who remember Allah always). This is necessary because only then will your subsequent quest to understand His Creation will remain pure and Allah will guide you on the right path.

c) Contemplate.
Think deeply (Research, learn, experiment, investigate in any which way). Pursue Modern education only after getting the foundation of your faith right if you do not wish to be misled.

d) By following this methodology one affirms his faith in this Creation as that of Allah and indeed it has not come into being by accident and has a
purpose. Clearly the purpose is Learning as much as you can. Remember Allah guides only those who seek His pleasure and brings them to light out of darkness by His Will.

By following the methodology as enjoined by Allah SWT, we are able to determine that our DEEN (Islamic Faith) as a whole is nothing but another name of this Creation itself. Hence to separate Deen from Duniya (World/Universe) is not prudent and is unnatural to say the least. In fact stress on learning and moving forward all the time is so pronounced that Prophet Muhammad SAS once said:
"Surely he is loser whose two days follow an identical pattern". In other word
stagnation is simply not acceptable. Even the second day following the first has to be an improvement.

  The Moral Dilemma:

  Today’s Muslim, Yesterday’s
  Hero?

  Part2 -
  2

  By Dr. Ahmed
  Adam

  ROLE OF
  THE ULEMA

  We need to
unite and set aside our differences. We need to be informed (and educate
ourselves) from un-biased sources, as to the
true nature and reasons behind this struggle, hardships and difficulties
facing Muslims. If we are the fortunate ones to have the Glorious Qur`aan
at our fingertips, wherein there is guidance for all our affairs and all
our activities, where are we going wrong? The problem is not with Islam. The problem is
with man. The Author of the
Glorious Qur`aan is Allaah, the Almighty, All Knowing, Most Gracious, Most
Merciful. It is impossible for Him to be
wrong. It therefore follows that if we sincerely follow the guidelines in
the Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa
sallam, we must succeed. There is no other option. The various Moulana’s
and Ulema’s need to therefore inform the public at every Jumu’a ,about guidelines on planning for the
  Hereafter as well as on
current events. I don’t have any problem with discussing
  the various way of making
Wudoo . It is important. But set aside at least 5-10 minutes of each
Friday speech on Current Affairs and global issues affecting the Muslim
Ummah and how we can address these issues. It would also help if the talks
can be in English, simply from a practicality point of view. The youth
needs to be educated so that they can lead their life according to correct
guidelines. This is an appeal to our leaders and
Imam’s to take charge and start becoming “leaders” who we can
follow. Some of our Imams are already doing this and they need to
be commended supported for their sincere efforts.

  THE WAY FORWARD

  ·
  Our youth
is influenced by the false illusion of the “American Dream”; we regard
  America as the standard towards
which we aspire; our standard, and only standard should be the Quran, and
the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad, Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa
  sallam.
  ·
  We should
be proud to be Muslims; don’t let anyone fool you. The media propaganda
machine is so powerful, so effective and so well oiled and smooth, that
they not only succeed in influencing the minds of the Western public, but
some Muslims also come to believe this propaganda. That is how effective
  they are.
  ·
  Islam is
the only religion that has set the standards for a total way of life, code
of conduct, ethics and morals for all humanity. It is incumbent on all
Muslims to fight against oppression (in your heart, or verbally or
physically) wherever they find it; The only way to do this is to be
united. Muslims also assist oppressed non-Muslims. Oppressions hurt
everyone – irrespective of your religious affiliation. Not only should
Muslims fight against oppressors of humans, but also fight against
oppressors of animals; these are the creatures of Allaah Subhaanahu wa
Ta`aala, who have no voice and cannot fight back; thousands of animals are
being mercilessly killed and exploited to feed the ever growing greed of
  unscrupulous people.
  ·
  As
Muslims, we have the utmost respect for all the Prophets of Allah (may
Allah be pleased with them); they have all conveyed the message from
Allaah, Most Gracious , Most Merciful. Our strife is not against other
religions: our struggle is against oppressors wherever they may be, even
  among the ranks of Muslims.
  ·
  You may
think that you cannot make a difference; but in your heart and in the
final analysis, if we reject falsehood propaganda in our daily
lives, even in a small way, we will have a society that will have their
moral values intact and closer to the values and goals that we should
aspire to, as Muslims. You can make a
  difference.
  ·
  Support
your fellow Muslims wherever and whenever you can , be it in business,
social , moral or any other level. We are one Ummah. Don’t perpetuate the
idea that we are divided. Whoever says “ Laa illaha illallaa,
  Muhammad-ur-Rasoo-lullah (Sall Allaahu`alayhi wa sallam) “ is
automatically a Muslim. Minor (and sometimes major) differences should be
overlooked, because the current situation is so serious that we have to
  present

[IslamCity] Umar

2006-07-16 Thread J M
In the early days of the Islamic message, the Prophet (peace be upon him) and
his companions met tough opposition from the unbelievers in Makkah. Those who
did not have high standing in their tribes were vulnerable to much persecution,
including torture and even death. On the other hand, Muslims who belonged to
distinguished families and enjoyed tribal protection were subjected to pressure
by their families, with the aim of bringing them back to idolatry, the religion
that prevailed in Arabia at the time. It was necessary, therefore, that new
Muslims should keep the fact of their adoption of Islam secret, so as to learn
and practice their faith in safety. However, in a closely-knit society like
that of Makkah it was difficult to keep such an important fact secret. Besides,
new Muslims who appreciated the great difference Islam brought into their lives
were keen to try to win others to their new faith. Hence, the pressure
increased and the persecution acquired a wider
 scale.

One of the hardest opponents of Islam at the time was Umar ibn Al-Khattab,
a man full of vigor and ability, approaching 30 years of age. At one stage, he
thought that the easiest and surest way to put a final solution to the trouble
caused by Islam was to kill Muhammad, as this was certain to kill his message
too. Umar was not a man who shrank from a difficult task or pretended not to
know what he could or should do. If Muhammad was to be killed, then he would be
the one to kill him. He therefore went out carrying his sword in search of
Prophet Muhammad.

He was soon met by a man called Nuaym ibn Abdullah who managed to keep
secret the fact that he was a Muslim. Nuaym asked Umar where he was going.
Unhesitatingly, Umar declared his purpose. Nuaym then said: “Your strength has
certainly fooled you. Do you imagine that the Abd Manaf clan (to which the
Prophet belonged) would leave you to walk these roads when you have killed
Muhammad? You would be better advised if you went back to your own household
and put them on the right course.” Umar asked: “What do you mean, and who of my
household?” Nuaym replied: “Your cousin and brother-in-law Saeed ibn Zayd and
your sister, Fatimah, have both followed Muhammad and become Muslims.”
Obviously Nuaym’s purpose was to divert Umar’s attention. If Umar was
preoccupied with his own household, the Prophet would be in no imminent danger
from that quarter.

When Umar approached his sister’s home, she and her husband were studying
the Qur’an with a fellow-Muslim called Khabbab. When they realized that Umar
was approaching, Khabbab sought somewhere to hide, while Fatimah hid the sheet
they were reading. In his fury, Umar asked as he entered about the voices he
overheard. Receiving an unsatisfactory answer from his sister, he assaulted his
brother-in-law making it clear that he knew their secret. His sister rushed to
push him away from her husband but he struck her, causing blood to gush from
her face. She then said, with a boldness and determination which surprised Umar
himself: “Yes indeed, we are Muslims; we believe in God and His Messenger. You
may do as you please.”

The sight of blood on his sister’s face made Umar feel sorry for her. He
said in a rather conciliatory tone: “Give me what you have been reading. Let me
see what Muhammad teaches.” When she hesitated, expressing her fear that he
might destroy the sheet, he swore by his idols to give it back to her after he
had read it. The sheet contained the opening verses of Surah 20 entitled Ta Ha.
The meaning of these opening verses may be rendered as follows: “We have not
bestowed the Qur’an on you from on high to make you unhappy, but only as an
exhortation to all who stand in awe (of God): A revelation from Him Who has
created the earth and the high heavens, the Merciful, the One established on
the throne of His almightiness. To Him belongs all that is in the heavens and
all that is on earth, as well as all that is between them and all that is
beneath the sod. And if you say anything aloud, well, He indeed knows even the
secret thoughts as well as that which is hidden even more
deeply. God, there is no deity other than Him; His alone are the attributes of
perfection.” (1-8)

Impressed, Umar read on, and then he read the whole sheet again. He felt
the powerful verses striking their notes on the strings of his heart. He looked
at the floor for a moment as he repeated Verse 13: “For certain. I - I alone -
am God; there is no deity other than Me. Hence, worship Me alone and be
constant in prayer, so as to remember Me.” He then raised his head and said:
“How beautiful and how noble.” At this point Khabbab came out and told Umar
about the Prophet’s prayer for fresh support to Islam, saying: “I sincerely
hope that you will come forward in answer to the Prophet’s prayers.”

Umar did not need much persuasion to take the great step of changing sides.
Indeed nobody tried

It is a tactic which has been tried before and failed and we arecertain will fail again. The presenter of the C4 documentary, Martin Bright, is well known to British Muslims for his Islamophobic views and is the author of a notorious and discredited cover story in the New Statesman
entitled 'The Great Koran Con Trick' which was famously repudiated by Bright's very own former tutor at the School of Oriental and African studies, Professor Gerald Hawting.Bright's production of the C4 documentary and the publication this week of his Policy Exchange booklet is clearly aimed at campaigning for the imposition of a new Muslim leadership which is pro-Israel and will not speak up for legitimate rights. 'Martin Bright argues that it is wrong for our government to speak to popular democratic Islamic groups in the Muslim world. We are puzzled by this line of thinking. Surely, we should be building peaceful ties with the Muslim world, not cutting them off. In addition, Bright's contention that most Muslims are 'largely apolitical' is clearly a case of wishful thinkingand an attempt to forestall the increased participation of British Muslims in our political process in the UK. It is also firmly refuted by the findings of the latest PEW Global
Attitudes Survey,' said Dr Muhammad abdul Bari, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain.for his documentary, Bright wheels out a motley crew of some discreditedand some unknown figures to support his ludicrous arguments. One figure, from the so-called Sufi Muslim Council was quoted on Radio 4's The World This Weekend last Sunday[1] as claiming that his new body was backed by several non-Muslim organisations, including the Board of Deputies of British Jews, when surely he should have been questioned about what level of support - if any - he actually had within the Muslim communities across the UK which he is now claiming to represent. Martin Bright is part of a circle of pernicious Islamophobic commentators that includes Nick Cohen, Michael Gove, John Ware and Melanie Phillips, among others, who have tried to use the 7/7 atrocities as an opportunity to advance their anti-Muslim agenda. In an astonishing recent outburst[2] Melanie
Phillips stated that the 'litmus test' of so-called 'moderate Muslims' is whether they 'understand that fundamentally Israel is the victim in the Middle East.' In her strange worldview, those whose land is occupied are to be regarded as aggressors, and those who routinely defy international law and recklessly deployAmerican supplied firepower against civilian areas are the victims. Wesuspect most sane people would happily fail Ms Phillips' 'litmus test'.In a revealing passage from his new booklet published on Wednesday 12thJuly 2006 by the right-wing think tank, Policy Exchange[3], Martin Bright arguesthat 'it should no longer be acceptable for the British government to deal with the leadership of the MCB' while it regards the Ahmadis asnon-Muslims.

[IslamCity] IUMS Urges End of Iraq Sectarianism ---from islamonline.net

2006-07-16 Thread S A Hannan

IUMS Urges End of Iraq Sectarianism

By Ali Al-Halawani Masoud Sabri, IOL Staff

The IUMS said it will form a team to
draw up a formula on solving the Iraqi crisis.

ISTANBUL — The International Union for Muslim Scholars
(IUMS) urged Iraq's revered Sunni and Shiite scholars to shoulder their
responsibility in stemming sectarian-based blood shedding, demanding the
withdrawal of occupation forces from the country.
"Sunni and Shiite scholars should work together to
maintain Iraq's unity against vicious attempts to fan sectarianism," the
independent body said in a statement marking the conclusion of its two-day
  conference.
The Dublin-based IUMS called for convening a meeting of
Sunni and Shiite scholars as soon as possible to draft a code of honor
  against sectarian killings.
It proposed that the meeting, to be coordinated with the
umbrella Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC), be held in a country
that is not one of Iraq's immediate neighbors.
The IUMS vowed to form a team of its scholars to map out
a complete plan to end the Iraqi crisis, calling for equal representation
of all Iraqi sects in the different Iraqi institutions.
Top US commander in Iraq Gen. George Casey accused Shiite
death squads of fanning unrest, linking them to al-Qaeda group.
Following talks with visiting US Defense Secretary Donald
Rumsfeld, he said al-Qaeda had long sought to ignite sectarian violence in
Iraq but death squads had now joined the fray to undermine security in the
  Iraqi capital.
"What we are seeing now as a counter to that are death
squads primarily by Shiite extremist groups that are retaliating against
civilians. And so you have both sides now attacking civilians."
  Plague
The IUMS denounced ongoing killings and kidnappings
  plaguing Iraq.
"We strongly condemn all acts of violence, terrorism,
killings, abductions and bombings targeting innocent people."
The IUMS, which groups both Sunni and Shiite scholars,
condemned the targeting of mosques, imams and scholars.
Iraq has increasingly been plagued by sectarian-linked
attacks, especially since the bombing of a revered Shiite shrine in
  Samarra in February.
Raging sectarian violence has increasingly taken its toll
on mosques and worshipers, forcing many religious teachers and students to
doff their distinguished uniforms to escape the sectarian hell.
The bloodshed has also prompted a redrawing of some
neighborhoods, with minorities moving out and going to places where they
are part of the majority community.
Many Iraqis, Sunnis and Shiites, lined up in droves at
state registries over the past few months, believing that name changing is
  the best protection.
Early in the week, masked gunmen went on a rampage in a
predominantly Sunni Baghdad neighborhood, killing at least 50 Sunni Arabs
  in a sectarian attack.
  Zionist Crimes
The IUMS exhorted Muslims worldwide to bring help to the
Palestinian people in their struggle against the Israeli occupation.
"Muslims everywhere must stand together in the face of
the Zionist crimes against the Palestinian people and property," the
  statement said.
It praised the Palestinian resistance against the Israeli
occupation as a legitimate right enshrined in all religions and UN
  resolutions.
At least 18 Palestinians, including seven children, were
killed in separate Israeli attacks on Gaza Wednesday.
At least 70 Palestinians and one Israeli soldier have now
been killed since Israel launched its Gaza Strip offensive on Wednesday,
June 28, after an Israeli soldier was taken prisoner by Palestinian
  resistance groups.
Israel claims the onslaught, which has seen large parts
of the coastal strip reoccupied and thousands of troops and military gear
deployed, only aims at freeing the soldier.
The Palestinians, however, see the offensive as a bid to
topple the Hamas-led government and inflict long-term havoc on Gaza's
  infrastructure.

THE DEAD CAN HEAR,BUT ASKING THE DEAD TO PRAY TO ALLAH SUBHANAWATALA IS FORBIDDEN.
The Book Pertaining to Paradise, Its Description, Its Bounties and Its Intimates (Kitab Al-Jannat wa Sifat Na'imiha wa Ahliha)

Muslim :: Book 40 : Hadith 6862 Anas b. Malik reported Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) having said:
When the servant is placed in his grave and his companions retrace their steps arid he hears the noise of the footsteps, then two angels come to him and make him sit and say to him: What you have to say about this person (the Holy Prophet)? If he is d believer, lie would say: I bear testimony to the fact that he is a servant of Allali and His Messenger. Then it would be said to him: Look to your seat in the Hell- Fire, for Allah has substituted (the seat of yours) with a seat in Paradise. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He would be shown both the seats. Qatada said: It was mentioned to us that his grave (the grave of a believer) expands to seventy cubits and is full with verdure until the Day when they would be resurrected.

Book 040, Number 6869:(Sahih Muslim)

Anas b. Malik reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) let the dead bodies of the unbelievers who fought in Badr (lie unburied) for three days. He then came to them and sat by their side and called them and said: O Abu Jahl b. Hisham, O Umayya b. Khalaf, O Utba b. Rab'ila, O Shaiba b. Rabi'a, have you not found what your Lord had promised with you to be correct? As for me, I have found the promises of my Lord to be (perfectly) correct. Umar listened to the words of Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) and said: Allah's Messenger, how do they listen and respond to you? They are dead and their bodies have decayed. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life,
what I am saying to them, even you cannot hear more distinctly than they, but they lack the power to reply. Then'he commanded that they should be buried in the well of Badr.

The Messenger of Allah spoke to the People (buried) in the Well saying: Have you found out that what your Lord had promised you is true? then someone exclaimed: Are you calling out to the dead! The Prophet replied: You do not hear better than they do, except they do not respond. (Sahih Bukhari, Volume 2, Book 23, Number 452)

In the Name of Allah, the Gracious, the MercifulVerse 35.22 is crystal clear that human beings still living in this world cannot make those to hear who are in the graves.
And yet, many Muslims today believe that the Prophet (peace be upon him) and many other pious, saintly people, in their graves, do hear those who remember them and ask them to pray to and intercede with Allah for them. This belief is said to be based on two Qur'aanic verses,
4.64 and 2.154.The original Arabic texts of the 3 verses, mentioned above, are given in the attachments. Their English translations are as follows:35.22 Neither are the living and the dead alike. Allah makes anyone, He wishes, to hear. And you are in no position to make those to hear who are in the graves.
4.64 And We sent no Messenger, but to be obeyed by Allah's leave. And had they indeed come to you when they had wronged their own selves, then prayed Allah to forgive them and had the Messenger too prayed Allah to forgive them, they certainly would have found Allah Forgiving and Merciful.
2.154 And say not of those killed in Allah's Path, Dead persons. Nay! They are living, but you perceive not.The words 'those ... who are in the graves' in verse
35.22 are significant. These words also cover those persons who are buried in the graves, but are living in terms of verse 2.154. This means that human

RE: [IslamCity] Can the Dead Hear?

2006-07-16 Thread M. Malhar

Death
overtakes everyone, even the Messengers

Death is no strange
concept even for the Messengers. All the Messengers have died with the
exception of Eesa (Peace be upon him). Allah said concerning Prophet Muhammad :
"And We did not grant to any human immortality before you (0 Muhammad )
then if you die, would they live for ever." [Soorah Al-Anbiya (21: 34)]

Allah's Messenger, Muhammad
, passed away in the house of Aa'ishah (radhi allahu anha). Abu Bakr (radhi
allahu anhu) uncovered the blessed face of Allah's Messenger , tended
down, kissed him and cried. He then said: "May my father and mother be
sacrificed for your sake! Verily, Allah will not cause you to die twice. You
have just experienced the death that Allah had ordained. Then he went
out and said: "Now, he who worshiped Muhammad , Muhammad is dead now But
he who worships Allah, He is Ever-Living and He never dies. As Allah says:
"Muhammad is no more than a Messenger and Indeed, (many) Messengers have
passed away before him. If he dies or is killed, will you then turn back on
your heels (as disbelievers)? And he who turns back on his heels, not the least
harm will he do to Allah and Allah will give reward to those who are
grateful." [Soorah aali-Imran (3): 144.]

lbn Abbas (radhi allahu anhu)
said: "By Allah, it sounded as if people had never heard such a Qur'aanic
verse till Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) recited it as a reminder. So, people
started reciting it till there was no man who did not recite it." Umar
said: "By Allah! As soon as I heard Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) say if,
I fell down to the ground. I felt as if my legs had been unable to carry me, so
I collapsed when I heard him say it. Only then did I realize that Muhammad had
really died."

[Saheeh al-Bukharee (Eng.
Trans.) vol.5, no.733. Also see Ar-Raheeq al-Ma khtum (Eng. Trans.) p.480
- 481]

Therefore, the Messengers
die and so do the righteous. Allah says in the Qur'aan "Everyone
shall taste death"

[Soorah aali-Imran (3) :
185]

Believing that the Sufi
saints do not die is giving them a position higher than that of the Messengers.
Besides, burying somebody alive is a major sin. Allah says in the Qur'aan:
"And when the female (infant) is buried alive shall be questioned. For
what sin was she killed' [Soorah Takwir (81): 9]

Clarifying
Doubts:

Doubt (1): Allah's
Messenger replies to the greetings of salaam

Those who believe that
the Messenger of Allah lives a life similar to his worldly life in the grave
and benefits his nation from the grave, often bring forth the following two
narrations:

The Messenger of Allah
said: "No one gives greetings of salaam, except that Allah will restore
my soul to me, so that I may reply to him with the greeting of salaam."

[Abu Dawood (Eng.
Trans.). voL 2, p.542, no: 2036. This Hadeeth is hasan according to Shaikh al-Albanee
(see as-Saheehah no: 2266)]

"The Prophets are
alive and pray in their graves."

[Reported by Aboo Ya'laa
and al-Bazzaar from Anas ibn Maalik. Imaam adh-Dhahabee has dedared this
narration as Munkar in al-Meezan, because its sanad has a reporter named Hajjaj
who is a reporter of Munkar narrations. Ibn Hajr says that the Hajjaj mentioned
in this narration is Hajjaj bin abee Ziyadh al-Aswad and he is Thika. This Hadeeth
has been mentioned by Shaikh al-Albanee in Silsilatul-Ahaadeethis-Saheehah
(no.62)]

Reply

These narrations mention the conditions of life in the Barzakh and not
the worldly life.

The life of the Barzakh is different from the worldly life. Allah says,
"And say not of those who have been killed in the way of Allah,
'They are dead.' Nay they are living, but you are unaware of it. [Soorah
al-Baqarah (2 :154)]

We are unaware of the life in Barzakh because it is different from this
life.

2. During his lifetime when Allah's Messenger returned salaam, it
was heard by all those present. This is not the case today at the grave of
Allah's Messenger . This shows that the restoration of the soul and the
reply of salaam mentioned in the narration are from amongst the matters of the Barzakh.

3. As for the narration, "The Prophets are alive and pray in
their graves." its authenticity is disputed amongst the scholars of Hadeeth.
However, the 'life' and 'prayer'
mentioned in this narration is from the matters of the Barzakh.

4. During the lifetime of Allah's Messenger , the Sahabah (radhi allahu
anhum) never had another Imam in the presence of Allah's Messenger in
the Prophet's Mosque. Once Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) was asked to
lead the prayer in the absence of the Messenger of Allah . The Prophet joined
later and stood in the first row. The other Sahabah (radhi allahu anhum)
clapped their hands to inform Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) about the
Prophet's presence. Allah's Messenger indicated to Abu Bakr to stay
in his place, but Abu Bakr (radhi allahu anhu) raised his hands, praised Allah,
and retreated to the first row so that the Prophet could then lead the prayer.
After the prayer,
