Almost 40 percent of Americans acknowledge having some prejudice
against Muslims, but those with Muslim acquaintances are more likely
to show favorable attitudes, a new USA Today/Gallup Poll shows.
Thirty-nine percent of Americans asked to honestly assess themselves
said they have at least some feelings of prejudice against Muslims
while 59 percent said they did not.
Respondents were fairly evenly divided about whether Muslims are
respectful of other religions, with 47 percent agreeing and 40 percent
disagreeing. There was clear disagreement about whether Muslims are
too extreme in their religious beliefs, with 44 percent saying yes and
46 percent saying no.
A substantial minority, 39 percent, of Americans favor more strict
security measures for Muslims than other U.S. citizens, such as
requiring Muslims to carry a special ID; 59 percent said they would
oppose such a requirement. Forty-one percent favored Muslims
undergoing more intensive security checks at U.S. airports, while 57
percent opposed such action.
When comparing feelings based on whether respondents personally know a
Muslim, pollsters found dramatic differences. Forty-one percent said
they personally knew a Muslim.
Nearly a quarter of those who said they know a Muslim 24 percent
favored a special ID for Muslims; 50 percent who do not know someone
of that faith favored the special ID. Ten percent of those who know a
Muslim said they would not want a Muslim as a neighbor, compared to 31
percent of those who did not know one.
Some of the findings were based on interviews of a random national
sample of 1,007 adults between July 28 and 30 and had a margin of
error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. Others were based on a
half-sample of 500 national adults and had a margin of error of plus
or minus 5 percentage points.

Question
In regards to the following saying of the holy prophet
s.a.w: do not write down anything of me except the
Quran. whoever writes down other then that should
delete it. (Ahmed, vol.1, pg171...also sahih muslim),
I would like to know the context in which the prophet
s.a.w made this statement and is this a justification
for saying that the ahadith of the prophet s.a.w are
not a part of deen?
Answer
It is due to total ignorance and desire to follow
ones Nafs that would drive a man to reaching such a
conclusion that the Mubaarak Ahaadith of Rasulullah
[sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] are not part of Deen.
The reason for the prohibition found in the above
Hadith is that this was said by our beloved Nabi
[sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] in the earlier days of
Islam where the noble Quraan were written on many
different things and were kept by many people. The
Sahaaba [radhiallaahu anhu] at this time had not had
that amount of experience with the Quraan to
understand the style of its Aayaats.
For the above reason, there was a possibility that if
the Ahaadith of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi
wasallam] had to be written down, the Sahaaba
[radhiallaahu anhu] would accidentally regard the
Ahaadith of Rasulullah [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam]
as part of the Quraan. Once the Sahaaba got used to
the style of the Quraan and could distinguish between
the Quraan and Ahaadith merely by reading them once.
Nabi [sallallaahu alayhi wasallam] had permitted them
to write down his Ahaadith. Imaam al-Tirmidhi [ra] had
compiled a whole chapter of Ahaadith in his famous
Tirmidhi in the section Kitaabul Ilm regarding the
permissibility of writing the Ahaadith of Rasulullah

In Massachusetts the Puritans supposedly came to America seeking religious freedom, but freedom for whom? The only freedom they promoted was freedom for themselves. They established a theocratic rule regulating every aspect of life based upon their interpretation of the bible. The iconoclastic preacher Roger Williams complained that the state should have no place enforcing orthodoxy and argued for freedom of conscience. His view of the Puritan rule was that "no tenant is so heretical, blasphemous, seditious, and dangerous as persecution for the cause of conscience." The Massachusetts civil authorities decided every citizen including Williams should take a loyalty oath to the governor. Williams refused! The Puritan leaders took Williams to court and found him guilty of "disseminating new and dangerous opinions" and banished him from the colony. Anne Hutchinson was expelled by Governor Winthrop because she dared to hold unauthorized meetings in her home. John Wheelwright was tried, found guilty, and banished because his preaching was heretical. A band of Quakers were hanged by these Puritan Christians. Massachusetts' most notable act of church/state theocratic rule was the Salem witch trials of 1692. Nineteen women were accused of witchcraft. Since the bible states "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" (Ex 22:18) the state's obligatory punishment was obvious. State authorities in conjunction with church leaders hanged eighteen women and crushed the nineteenth to death with stones. Quakers were cruelly persecuted in almost every colony. William Penn founded Pennsylvania to establish religious toleration. Though the toleration was a step forward, it was extended primarily to Protestants. Roman Catholics could conduct religious services, but were subject to periodic raids from neighboring Maryland. In Virginia, the Anglican Church was the state church. Quakers and Catholics were barred. Baptists were often imprisoned or publicly whipped. Those who spoke impiously of the Trinity or Christian faith could be executed. Parents who failed to have their children baptized were fined. Non-attendance at church merited a fine for the first offense and a whipping for subsequent offenses. The organizers said that the large crowd which came reaching 30,000 came from as far as Michigan, Florida, South Carolina, Pennsylvania and 50 buses from NY City, trying to surround the White House. Meanwhile the White House had mounted police riding amidst the crowd keeping the counter protestors at bay. An additional nominal security barrier divided Pennsylvania Avenue in front of Lafayette Park, creating a larger perimeter. The speakers and the crowd, mostly Muslims, but also Jewish, and Christian, atheists, revolutionaries, socialists, Right Wing Lebanese, Republicans, and Arabic moms-n-pops-n-grand-children, many of them new to DC's protest scene, denounced Israel's Zionism, its aggressive wars and what they called 'bogus' alibis of self-defense, as well as United States complicity in what now amounts to a targeted carnage of lives and infrastructures. Floating the Lebanese and Palestinian flags, they also talked of the occupation of Iraq, the blockade on Cuba, and refuted Bush's associating of Islam and Fascism At times, the chants, dances, and speeches also celebrated the indigenous resistance fighting for self-determination and liberation from the claws of the global colonizers. Frantz Fanon, The Wretched of the Earth The following essay, Islam: Religion or Ideology, was written three weeks ago, before the government of Israel began its brutal, murderous assault on the civilian population of Lebanon, allegedly in response to the capture of two Israeli soldiers by fighters affiliated with the Lebanese Islamic organization, Hizbollah. This latest Israeli campaign only underscores the price the people of the Middle East have paid owing to the triumph of Zionism. That price has been high indeed, and as Lebanon is reduced to bloodstained rubble, the price only escalates.That said, we should never lose sight of the fact that the Jewish people have also paid heavily for that triumph. The growing number of Jewish victims of the deepening cycles of violence plaguing the region, evidenced most recently in the indiscriminant Hizbollah rocket attacks on northern Israeli cities, is part of that price. However, in my opinion, the greater price lies in how the triumph of Zionism threatens to transform mainstream Judaism from a religion characterized by the loftiest of moral codes, to one that is willing to sacrifice its morality on the altar of political expediency. Evidence of Jewish philanthropy, and goodwill towards the generality of humanity still existsone has to only look at the charitable and social justice work done both here and globally by Jewshowever, the overwhelming support the people of Israel, and Jews in other parts of the world, have given to this most recent campaign of murder and destruction against the defenseless Lebanese people (most of whom are not politically aligned with Hizbollah) points to the sad reality of a great world faith being diminished by the political agenda of the Zionist state.The following is part of an effort by this writer to warn Muslims against allowing the reduction of our religion by similar political imperatives. We should never hope to see the day when, if possessing the requisite firepower, Muslims would visit upon the civilian population of Israel the sort of savage violence we see decimating the innocent civilians of Gaza and Lebanon. God has imposed limits on our behavior, even in times of war, and we should never transgress those limits. Our failure to observe those limits not only threatens to destroy the moral foundations of our religion, it will also add to the suffering of innocent human beings.Time does not allow a deeper analysis of the current crisis. In the near future, I plan to write an extensive article on this issue. For now, I will conclude my remarks with the deeply insightful and frighteningly prophetic words of the Zionist philosopher Ahad Haam (Asher Ginsberg). He writes over one hundred years ago: "One thing we certainly should have learned from our past and present history, and that is not to create anger among the local population against us We have to treat the local population with love and respect, justly and rightly. And what do our brethren in the Land of Israel do? Exactly the opposite! Slaves they were in their country of exile, and suddenly they find themselves in a boundless and anarchic freedom, as is always the case with a slave that has become king; and they behave towards the Arabs with hostility and cruelty, infringe upon their boundaries, hit them shamefully without reason, and even brag about it. Our brethren are right when they say that the Arab honours only those who show valor and fortitude; but this is the case only when he feels that the other side has justice on his side.
