Protect right to
take Hijab, seminar told

The need for protecting the right of muslim women to take hijab (scarf on
head) was emphasized at a seminar in Dhaka yesterday.

Speakers at the seminar marking the ‘World Hijab Solidarity Day’ noted
that some western forces, which are envious of Islam and its progress, are
engaged in a propaganda against Hijab. The Assembly for Protection of Hijab,
Bangladesh, organized the function.

Justice Abdur Rouf, former chief election commissioner was the chief
guest at the seminar, which was presided over by Prof. UAB Razia Akhtar Banu of
Dhaka University and vice chairman of Assembly for Protection of Hijab,
Bangladesh. A keynote paper was presented by Dr. Meera Momtaz Sabeka, Assistant
Professor, Salimullah Medical College ,Shah Abdul Hannan former secretary to the government, Barrister Fatema
Anwar, advocate, Bangladesh Supreme court, Nasima Hasan, Assistant Professor,
Manarat University and Kaniz Fatima, Lecturer, Darul Ihsan University, and
Mostofa kamal Majumder, editor, The New Nation, took part in the
discussion.

Justice Abdur Rouf said that hijab guaranteed the personal dignity of
women. It is an inalienable right of woman, he said. It’s not possible to
establish hijab by way of declaration made by a country or the United Nations.
Similarly it’s not fair to impose restrictions on this women’s wear, Justice
Rouf said, terming the restrictions imposed by the government of France as
aggression against civilization. He demanded withdrawal of the restriction.

Shah Abdul Hannan said that hijab has emerged as a sign of progress from
a situation excesses where some schools of thought believed that women should be
restricted to the four walls of home. Only the forces of evil want to make
people including women naked.

He said that education and law came under pressure along with hijab in
muslim countries after their colonization. Hijab was under pressure when muslim
countries like Iran, Turkey and Indonesia were under dictatorial regimes. But
why should such attacks come in liberal countries like France, which spread the
message of liberty, equality and fraternity, he asked.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] International seminar on Right of Self-Determination Genva Sep 18-Oct 6, 2006

2006-09-05 Thread Labbayk YaMahdi

International seminar on "Right of Self-Determination" to be Held at Geneva, Switzerland.Washington, D.C. September 1, 2006. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director of Washington-based KAC /Kashmir Center said that an International Seminar on "Right of Self-Determination" will be held during theSecond Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council that begins on September 18 - October 6, 2006at Geneva, Switzerland. Internationally known experts have been invited to present their views about theapplicability of the principle of self-determination in the twenty-first century.Dr. Fai said that the self-determination of peoples is a basic principle of the United Nation Charter whichhas been reaffirmed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and applied countless times to thesettlement of international disputes. He further elaborated that International Court of Justice considered
the several resolutions ondecolonization process and noted: "The subsequent development of International Law in regard to non-selfgoverning territories as enshrined in the Charter of the UN made the principle of self-determinationapplicable to all of them." This opinion establishes the self-determination as the basic principle for theprocess of de-colonization. Dr. Fai emphasized that the concept seems to be as old as Government itself and was the basis of French andAmerican revolutions. In 1916, President Wilson stated that self-determination is not a mere phrase.President Wilson said that it is an imperative principle of action and included it in the famous14-point charter. This gave a prominence to the principle. Dr. Fai siad that self-determination as conceived by President Wilson was an imprecise amalgamation of severalstrands of thought, some long associated in his mind with the notion
of "self-determination," othershatched as a result or wartime developments, but all imbued with a general spirit of democracy. The Executive Director warned that the principle of self-determination and the maintenance ofinternational peace and security are inseparable. He said that is why the denial of this right toself-determination to the people of Kashmir has brought two neighboring countries in South Asia -India and Pakistan - to the brink of nuclear catastrophe. Dr. Fai reminded that the applicability of the principle of the self-determination to the specificcase of Jammu and Kashmir has been explicitly recognized by the United Nations. It was upheldequally by India and Pakistan when the Kashmir dispute was brought before the Security Council. Since, on theestablishment of India and Pakistan as sovereign states, Jammu and Kashmir was not part of theterritory of either, the two
countries entered into an agreement to allow its people to exercise their rightof self-determination under impartial auspices and in conditions free from coercion from either side. Theagreement is embodied in the two resolutions of the United Nations Commission for India and Pakistanexplicitly accepted by both Governments. It is binding on both Governments and no allegation ofnon-performance of any of its provisions by either side can render it inoperative. For more information, please contact: [EMAIL PROTECTED]*

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] the trojan horse of liberty

2006-09-05 Thread Altaf Bhimji

This cartoon depicting the statue of liberty as a trojan horse is one
of the best cartoons i have seen about what the United States is
doing in the name of democracy liberty and other such nonsense.

The US is attempting to fool the Muslims into believing that America
is all about liberty and democracy (and some Muslims are actually
buying into such nonsense) --- infact this promised liberty is a
trojan horse that will open, and out will come all kinds of colonial
oppression once it has infiltrated the hearts and minds of Muslims.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] US Army Contemplates Redrawing Middle East Map to Stave-off Looming Global Meltdown

2006-09-05 Thread Wolfgang Geist

US Army Contemplates Redrawing Middle East Map to
Stave-off Looming Global Meltdown

By Nafeez Mosaddeq Ahmed

09/02/06 Dissidentvoice In a little-noted article
printed in early August in the Armed Forces Journal, a
monthly magazine for officers and leaders in the
United States military community, early retired Major
Ralph Peters sets out the latest ideas in current US
strategic thinking. And they are extremely disturbing.

Ethnically Cleansing the Entire Middle East

Maj. Peters, formerly assigned to the Office of the
Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence where he was
responsible for future warfare, candidly outlines how
the map of the Middle East should be fundamentally
re-drawn, in a new imperial endeavour designed to
correct past errors. Without such major boundary
revisions, we shall never see a more peaceful Middle
East, he observes, but then adds wryly: Oh, and one
other dirty little secret from 5,000 years of history:
Ethnic cleansing works.

Thus, acknowledging that the sweeping reconfiguration
of borders he proposes would necessarily involve
massive ethnic cleansing and accompanying bloodshed on
perhaps a genocidal scale, he insists that unless it
is implemented, we may take it as an article of faith
that a portion of the bloodshed in the region will
continue to be our own. Among his proposals are the
need to establish an independent Kurdish state to
guarantee the long-denied right to Kurdish
self-determination. But behind the humanitarian
sentiments, Maj. Peters declares that: A Free
Kurdistan, stretching from Diyarbakir through Tabriz,
would be the most pro-Western state between Bulgaria
and Japan.

He chastises the United States and its coalition
partners for missing a glorious chance to fracture
Iraq, which should have been divided into three
smaller states immediately. This would leave Iraq's
three Sunni-majority provinces as a truncated state
that might eventually choose to unify with a Syria
that loses its littoral to a Mediterranean-oriented
Greater Lebanon: Phoenecia reborn. Meanwhile, the
Shia south of old Iraq would form the basis of an
Arab Shia State rimming much of the Persian Gulf.
Jordan, a US-Israeli friend in the region, would
retain its current territory, with some southward
expansion at Saudi expense. For its part, the
unnatural state of Saudi Arabia would suffer as great
a dismantling as Pakistan. Iran too would lose a
great deal of territory to Unified Azerbaijan, Free
Kurdistan, the Arab Shia State and Free Baluchistan,
but would gain the provinces around Herat in today's
Afghanistan. Although this vast imperial programme
could be impossible to implement now, with time, new
and natural borders will emerge, driven by the
inevitable attendant bloodshed.

As for the goals of this plan, Maj. Peters is equally
candid. While including the necessary caveats about
fighting for security from terrorism, for the
prospect of democracy, he also mentions the third
important issue -- and for access to oil supplies in
a region that is destined to fight itself.

The whole thing sounds disturbingly familiar,
especially to those who have read the musings of then
Israeli Foreign Ministry official Oded Yinon.

Keeping the World Safe... for Our Economy

Despite trying to dress up his vision as an exercise
in attempting to selflessly democratize the Middle
East, in a contribution to the quarterly US Army War
College journal Parameters almost a decade ago, he
acknowledged with some jubilation that: Those of us
who can sort, digest, synthesize, and apply relevant
knowledge soar--professionally, financially,
politically, militarily, and socially. We, the
winners, are a minority. This minority will
inevitably conflict with the vast majority of the
world's population. For the world masses, devastated
by information they cannot manage or effectively
interpret, life is 'nasty, brutish . . . and
short-circuited.' In every country and region,
these masses who can neither understand the new
world, nor profit from its uncertainties... will
become the violent enemies of their inadequate
governments, of their more fortunate neighbors, and
ultimately of the United States. The coming clash,
then, is not really about blood, faith, ethnicity, at
all. It is about the gap between the haves and the
have-nots. We are entering a new American century,
he says, in a veiled reference to the Bush
administration Project of the same name founded in the
same year he was writing. In the new century, we will
become still wealthier, culturally more lethal, and
increasingly powerful. We will excite hatreds without
precedent.

In predicting the future course for the US Army, Maj.
Peters argues that: We will see countries and
continents divide between rich and poor in a reversal
of 20th-century economic trends. In this context, he
says, we in the United States will continue to be
perceived as the ultimate haves, and therefore,
terrorism will be the most common form of

Latest War News:
Afghanistan: Heaviest British Loss [from Urdu language papers.]
On September 1, Taliban shot down a NATO aircraft, identified as a Nimrod MR2 usually used for reconnaissance. Fourteen British troops, including three airmen, were killed. The Taliban claim that they used a Stinger, probably left over from the anti-Soviet Jihad.
Even more spectacular, a week back, a low flying Dutch F-16, on a strafing mission, was shot down. The pilot was unable to eject.
NATO has adopted the policy of declaring each crash an "accident" but this declaration is made so quickly that it creates doubts about howcould NATO know right away?

IRAQ: Situation Getting Worse by the Day for the U.S. [from NT's Media monitor]
The Pentagon revealed that 64 U.S. troops were killed in Iraq in August, raising the total to 2640. Another 3 have been killed in September. It appears that the new leader of Al-Qaida in Iraq, al-Masri [the Egyptian] has re-organized the Islamic resistance. On September 3, the U.S. said it had captured his second-in-command al-Sayeedi and killed several others. The censorship on the details of U.S. losses: how, where, indicates the situation is bad for the U.S.
The Shi'ite hit squads are still busy killing Sunnis by the dozen every night, with the tacit approval of the U.S.-installed regime, trying to "cleanse' the Baghdad area of Sunnis. Sunni counterattacks have killed several hundred U.S-backed Shi'a police and military in one week, along with scores of innocents.
Civil order seems to have broken down. U.S. media report that on September 2, ten Pakistanis and 3 Indians going to pilgrimage in Kerbala were killed by bandits in the desert.
Earler,a bitter battle occurred among pro-U.S. and pro-Sadr Shias, resulting in 50 U.S.-backed Shias and 21 "Sadris" killed. The Shia areas are not fighting the U.S. but are still very tense.

PALESTINE: Imam Badi Ali [North Carolina], notes that Hamas seems to have lost the will to resist as Israelis come in every day and murder Islamic activists, sometimes in front of their homes and families. Election victory under occupation has made Hamas passive in an effort to keep its government. [This is like the Jamaate Islami government in Pakistan's Frontier Province. Elected to support the Taliban, it completely withdrew support from the Taliban and started building its own bureaucracy.] Resistance is more important than titles and positions for Palestinansbut Hamas is losing its way, says Imam Ali.

Boycott Israel [IslamCity] Pakistanis Find U.S. an Easier Fit Than Britain

2006-09-05 Thread Maqsud Sobhani

August 21, 2006 http://www.nytimes.com/2006/08/21/us/21devon.html?ex=1157515200en=949193f6e072927dei=5070Pakistanis Find U.S. an Easier Fit Than Britain By NEIL MacFARQUHARCHICAGO, Aug. 18 — The stretch of Devon Avenue in North Chicago also named for Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, seems as if it has been transplanted directly from that country. The shops are packed with traditional wedding finery, and the spice mix
in the restaurants’ kebabs is just right. Similar enclaves in Britain have been under scrutiny since they have proved to be a breeding ground for cells of terrorists, possibly including the 24 men arrested recently as suspects in a plot to blow up airliners flying out of London. Yet Devon Avenue is in many ways different. Although heavily Pakistani, the street is far more exposed to other cultures than are similar communities in Britain. Indian Hindus have a significant presence along the roughly one-and-a-half-mile strip of boutiques, whose other half is named for Gandhi. What was a heavily Jewish neighborhood some 20 years ago also includes recent immigrants from Colombia, Mexico and Ukraine, among others. “There is integration even when you
have an enclave,” said Nizam Arain, 32, a lawyer of Pakistani descent who was born and raised in Chicago. “You don’t have the same siege mentality.” Even so, members of the Pakistani immigrant community here find themselves joining the speculation as to whether sinister plots could be hatched in places like Devon (pronounced deh-VAHN) Avenue. The most common response is no, at least not now, because of differences that have made Pakistanis in the United States far better off economically and more assimilated culturally than their counterparts in Britain. But some Pakistani-Americans do not rule out the possibility, given how little is understood about the exact tipping point that pushes angry young Muslim men to accept an ideology that endorses suicide and mass
murder. The idea of a relatively smaller, more prosperous, more striving immigrant community inoculating against terror cells goes only so far, they say. “It makes it sound like it couldn’t happen here because we are the good immigrants: hard-working, close-knit, educated,” said Junaid Rana, an assistant professor of Asian-American studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and an American-born son of Pakistani immigrants. “But we are talking about a cult mind-set, how a cult does its brainwashing.” Yet one major difference between the United States and Britain, some say, is the United States’ historical ideal of being a melting-pot meritocracy. “You can keep the flavor of your ethnicity, but you are expected to become an American,” said Omer Mozaffar, 34, a Pakistani-American raised here who is working toward a doctorate in Islamic studies at the University of Chicago. Britain remains far more rigid. In the United States, for example, Pakistani physicians are more likely to lead departments at hospitals or universities than they are in Britain, said Dr. Tariq H. Butt, a 52-year-old family physician who arrived in the United States 25 years ago for his residency. Nationwide, Pakistanis appear to be prospering. The census calculated that mean household income in the United States in 2002 was $57,852 annually, while that for Asian households, which includes Pakistanis, was $70,047.
