Those Who Take their Positions in the Highest Levels
*

Among those who will occupy the highest levels in Paradise are the
shuhaadaa, the best of whom are those who fight in the front ranks and never
turn away until they are killed. Ahmad and at-Tabaraani report with a saheeh
isnaad from Na'eem ibn Hamar (1) that the Prophet (saw) said, The best of
the Shuhaadaa are those who fight in the first rank, and do not turn their
facesaway until they are killed. They will have the pleasure of occupying
the highest dwellings in Paradise. Your Rabb will smile at them, and
whenever your Rabb smiles upon any of His Slaves, that person will not be
brought to account. *[Musnad Ahmad, Kitaab az-Zuhd, Baab al-Ihsaan ila
al-armila wal-masaakeen wal-yateem 2/2286, hadith no. 2982] *

The one who helps widows and the destitute will have the status of a
mujaahid in Paradise. Muslim reports from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet
(saw) said, The one who helps widows and the destitute is like one who
fights in jihaad for the sake of Allah (swt). I [the narrator] think he
said, And he is like the one who stands all night in prayer and never
sleeps, and like the one who fasts continually and never breaks his
fast. *[Saheeh
Muslim, Kitaab az-Zuhd, Baab al-Ihsaan, ila al-armilah wal-miskeen
wal-yateem, 2/2286, no. 2982]*

The one who sponsors an orphan will be close to the Prophet (saw) in
Paradise. Muslim reports from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said,
The one who sponsors an orphan, whether from his own wealth or from the
orphan's wealth, I and he will be like these two in Paradise, - and Maalik
[the narrator] gestured with his forefinger and middle finger. *[Saheeh
Muslim, Kitaab az-Zuhd, 2/2286, no. 2982; lahu aw ghayrihi - whether from
his own wealth or from the orphan's wealth - means whether he supports him
from his own wealth or is a legal guardian over the orphan and the orphan's
wealth]*

Allah (swt) will raise the status of parents by the blessing of their
children's du'aa. Ahmad reports from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Messenger of
Allah (saw) said, Allah (swt) will raise the status of His righteous slave
in Paradise, and he will say, O my Rabb, how could I deserve this? He will
say, Because your child sought forgiveness for you.

Ibn Katheer said, This is a saheeh isnaad although none of the authors of
the six books reported it. But there is a corroborating report in Saheeh
Muslim from Abu Hurayrah (ra), according to which the Prophet (saw) said,
When a son of Aadam dies his good works come to an end, except for three:
Sadaqah Jaariyah [ongoing charity], beneficial knowledge [that he discovered
or propogated], and a righteous son who will pray for him. *[Ibn Katheer,
an-Nihaayah, 2/340]*

Bismillah [IslamCity] A thought

A THOUGHT
All grow in soil from seeds, and the seed has a structure sometimes as
hard as wood. However, while considering these, we should avoid habitual
ways of thinking and employ different methods. Visualise the delicious
tastes and odours of strawberries or the ever-changing odour of melon.
Think about the time and energy spent in laboratories to produce similar
odours and about the repeated trials that resulted in failure. Indeed,
results obtained by scientists in laboratories prove to be no better
than the unsuccessful imitations of their natural counterparts. The
varieties of taste, odour and colour in nature bear indeed matchless
attributes.

Bismillah [IslamCity] Islam and honor killings

2008-01-08 Thread Ahumanb
Honor Killing and female infanticide come from Pagan-Hindu-Judio-Christian
traditions. Here is a solid evidence of honor killing from the Bible:

For God said, 'Honor your father and mother' and 'Anyone who curses their
father or mother is to be put to death.' [Matthew 15:4]

Here are a couple of verses from Vedas that may encourage people to kill their
daughters:

O Husband protect the son to be born. Do not make him a women. [Atharva-Veda
2:3:23]

Almighty God, you have created this womb. Women may be born somewhere else but
sons should be born from this womb. [Atharva-Veda 6:11:3]

One can find many such verses in Hindu scriptures. According to Vedas, women
are supposed to pay dowry to men. Moreover, according to Hindu tradition, only
sons are supposed to fire up the funeral pyre of their parents.

On the contrary, there is no such verse in the Quran (or even in Hadiths) nor
there is any Islamic tradition that may encourage people to kill their
daughters. In fact, female infanticide and killing children are directly
forbidden in the Quran:

When news is brought to one of them, of (the birth of) a female (child), his
face darkens, and he is filled with inward grief! With shame does he hide
himself from his people, because of the bad news he has had! Shall he retain it
on (sufferance and) contempt, or bury it in the dust? Ah! what an evil (choice)
they decide on? [Quran 16:58-59]

The girl who was buried alive is asked: For what crime was she killed? [Quran
81:8-9]

You shall not kill your children due to fear of poverty. We provide for them,
as well as for you. Killing them is a gross offense. [Quran 17:31]

So, it appears that some Muslims are going back to the dark ages of
Pagan-Hindu-Judio-Christian traditions although Islam came to abolish them!
They are evolving in reverse direction in spite of having the Quran [the most
positive Book in the world] in their hand! Maybe Muslims and non-Muslims have
interchanged their religions, secretly!?! LOL!

Every honest Jew who knows the history of his people cannot but feel a deep
sense of gratitude to Islam, which has protected the Jews for fifty
generations, while the Christian world persecuted the Jews and tried many times
'by the sword' to get them to abandon their faith. (Uri Avnery, a Jewish
Journalist)

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Highest Position in Paradise

The Highest Position in Paradise
*

The highest position in Paradise which will be attained by only one
person is called al-Waseelah. It will be attained, insha'Allah, by the
Chosen Prophet, the best of Allah's creation, our Prophet Muhammad (saw).

This is narrated in a hadith narrated by al-Bukhaari from Jaabir ibn
'Abdullaah according to which the Prophet (saw) said, Whoever says, when he
hears the call to prayer, Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-da'wati-tammah,
was-salaatil-qaa'imah, aati muhammadan al-waseelata wal-fadeelata,
wab'aththu maqaaman mahmoodan alladhi wa'adtahu [O Allah, Lord of this
Perfect Call and the Prayer to be Offered, grant Muhammad al-Waseelah - the
highest position in Paradise - and also the eminence and resurrect him to
the praised position You have promised], intercession for him will be
granted on the Day of Resurrection.

Muslim reported that 'Abdullaah ibn 'Amr al-'Aas said, I heard the
Messenger of Allah (saw) say, When you hear the muaddhin call, say what he
says, then send blessings on me, for whoever sends blessings on me, Allah
(swt) will return it to him tenfold. Then ask Allah to grant me al-Waseelah,
for whoever asks Allah (swt) to grant me al-Waseelah intercession will be
granted for him.

The Sahaabah asked the Prophet (saw) What is al-Waseelah? He said, It is
the highest level of Paradise, which only one man will reach, and I hope
that I will be the one. *[Ahmad from Abu Hurayrah]*

The Messenger of Allah (saw) said, al-Waseelah is a rank above which there
is no other in the sight of Allah (swt). Ask Allah (swt) to grant me
al-Waseelah *[Ahmad from Abu Sa'eed, See Ibn Katheer, an-Nihaayah, 2/2332]*

Bismillah [IslamCity] The Benefits of Waqf

2008-01-08 Thread saiyed shahbazi
The Benefits of WaqfOnce, during a visit to
Medina, Shaykh Hamza Yusuf picked up a copy of the Saudi Gazette, an English-
language daily, and saw a picture of the American golfer Tiger Woods playing
golf on a course that featured an architecturally gorgeous clubhouse that
reminded him of Muslim Spain.

It turned out that the course was at the Medinah Country Club in Medinah,
Illinois, and that its architecture was indeed influenced by Andalusia; more
specifically, it was based on the Alhambra Palace.
“I contemplated that fact,” says Shaykh Hamza. “Here is a place that was
built solely for playing golf. And they put all of this energy and effort and
time to make it beautiful, and in choosing to make it beautiful, they designed
it based upon some of the most stunning architecture in the world, which is
from the Islamic civilization. So here
I am thinking: Why is it that these people can build a golf course that looks
like that—and we can’t build a Muslim university that looks like that? That’s
my question.”

The scholars at the Zaytuna Institute have long been speaking and writing
about the importance of endowments to support Muslim institutions, especially
Muslim academic institutions. Past Muslim institutions and centers of learning,
such as the Qarawiyyin in Fes, Morocco (see page 16), were always supported—and
still are supported—through what is known as a waqf, the idea of endowing
property from private ownership in a way that the property becomes the wealth
of God.

Needless to say, those who give a waqf have always been held in the highest
esteem in Islam’s sacred tradition; for instance, Shaykh Hamza has noted that
the ten sahaba who are promised Paradise are all said to have given endowments
from their property.

In a 1999 speech in Santa Clara, California, Shaykh Hamza listed several
creative ways that Muslim endowments could be used in the United States. One
was his suggestion that an endowment be created so American lawyers and Muslim
jurists could jointly study the U.S. Constitution. “Those people who are
intellectuals and know what their Constitution says should be shown that in
fact many of the ideas of the Constitution were derived from Islamic law,” he
said at the time.

While nobody has taken up that challenge yet, Zaytuna is now directing its
efforts to build an endowment that will support the indigenization of Islam in
America.

“That’s what we want,” says Shaykh Hamza. “That’s my vision—to see beautiful,
thriving, intellectual, spiritual institutions to revive our tradition—our
scholastic tradition, our intellectual tradition. Harvard University began as a
seminary; it now has an endowment of [several] billion dollars; Yale University
began as a seminary; it now has an endowment of more than [several] billion
dollars; Princeton University began as a theological seminary.”
Zaytuna’s seminary project, the Tabari College, will, Shaykh Hamza hopes,
follow a path of intellectual accomplishment that mirrors its theological
precursors in America.
“All of the great universities that are called the Ivy League universities were
all built as theological seminaries,” he says. “That’s how they began, because
that’s how things begin—they begin with God. And so that’s our hope, that one
day people will look back and they will say [Tabari College], that amazing
university, began as a theological seminary. And one day we want to see it
playing a role, a powerful role, in the intellectual history of twenty-first
century America, and the world.”
