Re: [JAWS-Users] Setting vista on laptop for JAWS

2007-10-14 Thread Blind Sea
Hi there,
You might be thinking of User Account Control (a security mechanism
(consent.exe) that blocks unauthorized installation of software, changing
advanced settings without permission, etc.).
Go to Start/Control Panel/User Accounts. Then go to Turn User Account
control on or off link. There should be a checkbox to enable this feature.
If you want to leave it on (this is the default setting by the way), leave
it checked. If you want to disable UAC, press SPACE to clear it then press
Enter. Remember that you'll need to restart your computer.
Cheers,
Joseph

Re: [JAWS-Users] copy something from a floppy disk to desk top and back

Hi Marie,
This is a limitationo in fAT12 (the file system used in flopy disks). FAT12,
unlike FAT16 and FAT32, does not allow creation of new folders on floppy
disks. You best alternative is to rename the file itself that you are trying
to copy.

Hi, Marie's friend here. So guys, are you saying that Windows XP doesn't
support fat12? Or if it does it has limitations? I'm asking this as I tried
to use another friend of mine's USB floppy drive, and tried to load a
magazine off one of the disks and Windows XP Home SP2 refused to read the
disk and claims that it needs reformatting, but since this is a disk
obtained from the RNIB I didn't go ahead and reformat. Thanks in advance for

That problem could be a few things like the floppy drive not
recognizing the floppy format or the op.
Some of the floppy disks are not standard 1.44, they are 2mb commercial
disks.
Try it on a system with xp and a floppy drive if you can find one on
these new boxes.

Hi Marie,
This is a limitationo in fAT12 (the file system used in flopy disks).
FAT12,
unlike FAT16 and FAT32, does not allow creation of new folders on floppy
disks. You best alternative is to rename the file itself that you are
trying
to copy.

[JAWS-Users] Centricity or Logician help needed urgently

2007-10-14 Thread Lynn Schneider
Hi everyone. I am a medical transcriptionist and the facility where I work
is in the process of switching to Centricity (formerly called Logician)
which is an electronic medical records system. I tried logging in there for
the first time on Friday, but Jaws did not speak at all. I had no luck even
with the Jaws cursor. I am wondering if anyone on this list uses this
program and could give me some tips. My job depends on me being able to
figure this out quickly. The total transition will not occur for a couple
weeks, so I do have a little time, but I wanted to know if there was any
hope of interacting with this application or not.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Lynn

Re: [JAWS-Users] Centricity or Logician help needed urgently

2007-10-14 Thread Bob J.
Lynn,

Have you posted this question on the JAWS scripting list? Special scripts
may be the solution.

Also, how do you access this new software? Internet? Main frame? IE?
Terminal emulator?

Does your facility have an I T department that might be able to assist you?

Bob

You might want to subscribe to the NFB National Association of Blind Office
Professionals   list. Medical transcription is included under its topics of
interest. You can learn more by visiting URL:

Re: [JAWS-Users] receiving attachments

2007-10-14 Thread Russell J. Thomas
After opening the email, go to the files menu and scroll down until you
reach save attachments. Hit enter. Then type in the drive and folder where
you want the attachment saved, and the name you want the file to have.

This is the only way I know how to do it in JAWS 8. In this regard, JAWS 8
is a step back from JAWS 7. In JAWS 7, you could hit insert
A on the attachment and open or save the attachment. You cannot do that in
JAWS 8.

Hi, Lynn. I just asked another email list I'm on about medical transcriber
email lists you could join. If I hear anything back from the other list,
I'll let you know. I don't know about the program you're speaking of
because when I was a medical transcriber, we used regular typewriters. I
hope this helps a little bit.

Re: [JAWS-Users] receiving attachments

2007-10-14 Thread Rosemarie Chavarria
Hi, Steve. Here's what you do to save an attachment.

1. Hit insert A. That will bring up the attachment.
2. Hit your alt key. That takes you to the menu bar.
3. Use the down arrow key to get to save attachment.
4. Hit enter on save attachment. You'll see a dialog box that asks where
you want to save the attachment.
5. If you know the file path, you can type it in the edit box. For
instance c:\my music\ding-a-ling. You can also look in the combo box for
the my music folder or whatever folder you're saving the attachment to.
6. Tab to the save button and hit enter. You've saved your attachment.

I hope these steps weren't too complicated. Hope this helps.
Rosemarie
