[JAWS-Users] Skype 5.0

2010-11-08 Thread David Ferrin
OK folks I give up so far as finding where this program is hiding the little
window that pops up when somebody is trying to get me to add them in to my
contact list. I have found it in the past by sheer luck I might add in at least
a couple of cases. If somebody out there is in possession of the formula or the
secret handshake please send it my way.

2010-11-08 Thread Melissa
I also have a fairly high end machine, with Windows 7, 64 bit, with a quad
core processor, and have none of these problems you have mentioned.
Are you sure it isn't with your settings, or available ram? I don't have
any lag times, in fact, it's probably the most responsive version to date.
I can't replicate any of the problems you mentioned.
Try playing with your ram settings, and also check what programs you have
running at startup, maybe that has something to do with the problems you're
experiencing.
Good luck,
Melissa

Good morning,

I've been a supporter of JAWS since version 2.x. Always have stayed
up-to-date on my SMA. Never have I been totally dismayed with a major update
until version 12.x.

This has got to be the worst release of JAWS I've ever tried.

First graphics it use to read as so, it now recognizes them as buttons.
Quite irritating when you use quick navigation keys to jump to certain
elements of a web page to read it faster.

And it is quite the memory hog! JAWS 12.x crashes so much on my high-end
Windows 7 machine, I've gone back to using 11.x. Think it has something to
do with the Virtual Ribbon or new fangled Config manager, who knows.
Anycase, it is very irritating to be reading a web page, only to have it go
silent for 3 minutes, and then JAWS comes back.

Sorry HJ, but I hate v12 of JAWS and have gone back to using v11.x
perminantly. It's more stable and doesn't crash every 5 minutes.

Wish you allowed us to switch the config manager back to the old
one. Do away with using this new Virtual Ribbon. Give us a choice to switch
them on and off.

If I get booted for expressing my feelings on this list, so be it.
Never done this before, until now.

Feel better getting this off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Hi there,

I know exactly how you feel but how odd it is that the same program works so
differently for users. I would have said jaws 12 is much better than 11.

You would of thought that by now Jaws would do just about anything but
everyone keeps updating everything and it messes us all up, progress I
guess, keeps people in work some would say.

Dear Becky

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support. Try taking

1. Activate the run dialog Windows key+r

2. Type in:

iexplore -extoff

And hit enter

When Internet Explore comes up, see if the issue still persist.

And it is quite the memory hog! JAWS 12.x crashes so much on my high-end
Windows 7 machine, I've gone back to using 11.x. Think it has something to
do with the Virtual Ribbon or new fangled Config manager, who knows.
Anycase, it is very irritating to be reading a web page, only to have it
go silent for 3 minutes, and then JAWS comes back.

Sorry HJ, but I hate v12 of JAWS and have gone back to using v11.x
perminantly. It's more stable and doesn't crash every 5 minutes.

Wish you allowed us to switch the config manager back to the old one. Do
away with using this new Virtual Ribbon. Give us a choice to switch them
 on and off.

If I get booted for expressing my feelings on this list, so be it. Never

[JAWS-Users] JAWS12 is good!

2010-11-08 Thread Flor Lynch
JAWS12, in my view, is one of the best releases in recent times.
better - much better - than JAWS11, even on Windows XP. there's some
sluggishness on some pages in Internet Explorer 8; but that was how it
was in 11 too. I like the Settings Center. (If you've ever had to
explain to others how to use the Configuration manager, well, it is
simpler to explain this, and - who knows - people might be empowered to
do more for themselves with the Settings Center. And, as for the Virtual
Ribbon, yes, it is possible to uncheck it and (if required) use the
standard Ribbons instead. Improved Flash recognition, is something I've
noticed in just the few days since I installed version 12.

You might call FS. I recently did a whole system re-install and it changed the
locking code for my version of Jaws. They changed it while I was on the phone
and giving it a couple of minutes to work through the system, it activated for

Hello, I have successfully installed more ram in to my computer. But as you
know once you do this Jaws asks you to reactivate, I have no problem doing
this. Only thing is, once I do it, and jaws says it has been successfully
completed, it still comes back 40 minutes later, or after I restart the
computer saying that I need to still activate. What's the solution for this
problem? Do I have to completely uninstall Jaws and start over? Or is this
a driver issue?

Thanks Becky for sharing this tip. But it is not a permanent solution
to the problem.

It simply disables all add-ons running in Internet Explorer
(Including Flash.) This makes many of the sites I visit useless for
they use Macromedia Flash to display their content.

The first beta of JAWS 12 worked the best in my opinion. Wish there
was some way I could re-install it, without the recent updates that
messed it up.

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific technical Support. Try

1. Activate the run dialog Windows key+r

2. Type in:

iexplore -extoff

Melissa, your theory would make since, but my system works perfectly
with all releases of version 11. Everything I mentioned goes away
when I switched back to using it.

It is definitely something extra they did to the Virtual Buffer, the
way v 12 interfaces with the video card... something. Problems only
happen when using Internet Explorer 8 it seems.

I have 4 GB of RAM installed, and am running Windows 7 home premium.
This PC is quite capable of handling even the most memory intensive
applications, except for JAWS v12.

any lag times, in fact, it's probably the most responsive version to date.
I can't replicate any of the problems you mentioned.
Try playing with your ram settings, and also check what programs you have
running at startup, maybe that has something to do with the problems you're

[JAWS-Users] JAWS 12 and edit fields

2010-11-08 Thread Deanne Miller
I'm wondering whether anyone else has experienced this with JAWS 12: When I
want to type in an edit field on the Internet--I'm using IE 8, it makes the
sound to indicate that forms mode is on, but after I type my text, I find that
the cursor is not focused anywhere near the text field I thought I was in. I
mean, it will be way down the page on a heading or a link. I go back to the
edit field and try again, only to have the same thing happen. Sometimes it
takes three or four tries before the cursor is actually in the edit field and I
can type something there.
Also, if I am editing text, modifying a search, etc, sometimes the cursor will
jump, while I'm typing, to the end of the line. I have no indication that it
has done so until the search turns up nothing and when I check what I wrote,
it's all mixed up. For example, let's say I do a search for dog food and I want
to modify it to Eukanuba Breed Specific dog food. My search may end up reading
something like Eukanuba Breed dog food Specific.
I know it isn't me. I have been using JAWS and the Internet for over 10 years
and have never experienced anything like this before. Is this happening to
anyone else using JAWS 12?
Thanks for any feedback,
Deannes

[JAWS-Users] question

2010-11-08 Thread John W. Carty
I'm using win7-64bit ult, jaws 12 64-bit and word 2010.

I've got an assignment where I must read thru a word document and highlight
specific words as if I was using a highlight pen.

I can achieve this by going into the menu home, font, highlight, then select my
desired color. Then as I read thru the document I can use ctrl-shift-right
arrow to select the word or words to be highlighted then I can press ctrl-alt-h
to highlight it.

Using the tools listed above this works properly.

This is my question.

Once I get the proper words highlighted:

How can I get jaws to identify the highlighted words as I read thru the
document?

I'm not referring to insert-5 which reads the highlight color once I've
positioned the cursor.

I need to have jaws identify the words during regularly reading.

Thanx,

John

Sorry HJ, but I hate v12 of JAWS and have gone back to using v11.x

Wish you allowed us to switch the config manager back to the old one. Do

Patrick, think you're being a little hard on HJ.

Yes, I'm quite upset with the 12 release, but JAWS has been a blessen in
my eyes in accessing the Internet and doing work on my PC.

I don't believe HJ would release any product simply to make a buck. They
really try their best to keep up with changes to Windows, browsers and
other en-user applications. Just think they did too much to JAWS this
time

around. They will get it together. I thoroughly believe that in my heart.

[JAWS-Users] memo to the list

2010-11-08 Thread David Ferrin
Have I made my point yet people or not? Drop the offensive subject lines and
the negative posts or we're going to do is start picking email addresses off of
list messages and simply start removing members until all of the complainers
are gone. If you don't like the way we run things on here nobody is forcing you
to stay. We do this as a hobby and nothing says we're required to continue.
Just in case some of the more dense might not be completely sure I am not a
happy camper right now.

If I wake up tomorrow and find any further offensive messages those people will
not post again, now nobody should be in doubt at all.

Rick and Bob you guys know the drill who ever posts an offensive message is
gone.

Re: [JAWS-Users] memo to the list

2010-11-08 Thread Tim Appleby
Hi David, I totally agree with you, this inflammatory business should be
stopped and those who are involved, you know who you are, please, please,
please stop this immediately!

David has put this list up as a hobbie, not a place for people to complain
about products such as JAWS, flaming FS here is not the place to do it, if
you have any complaints about their products, they should contact FS
directly, not on this list!

That's my 2 sence worth.

END, OF, DESCUSSION!

Have I made my point yet people or not? Drop the offensive subject lines
and the negative posts or we're going to do is start picking email
addresses off of list messages and simply start removing members until all
of the complainers are gone. If you don't like the way we run things on
here nobody is forcing you to stay. We do this as a hobby and nothing says
we're required to continue. Just in case some of the more dense might not
be completely sure I am not a happy camper right now.

If I wake up tomorrow and find any further offensive messages those people
will not post again, now nobody should be in doubt at all.

Rick and Bob you guys know the drill who ever posts an offensive message
is gone.

Most people don't know what they're doing and a lot of them are really
good at it.

Re: [JAWS-Users] question

2010-11-08 Thread Brian Lee
Hello John,

The highlighting should be recognized if you use the colors scheme. Use
Alt+JAWS key+S to bring up the list of schemes. Press C until you find the
colors scheme choice and press enter key. The highlight color should be
found when using Say All and when using arrow keys to navigate and read.

You can also use Word 2010's find command to find every instance of the
highlighting in the document.

1. Press CTRL+F to bring up the find dialog box.
2. Use tab key to the search split button and press enter key.
3. Tab to the advanced find button and press enter key.
4. Tab to the more button and press enter key.
5. Use two shift+tab keystrokes from the find page tab. JAWS will
recognize both controls as find and replace toolbar. Press enter key on
the control that is two shift+tabs from the find page tab.
6. Press up arrow once from the font choice to the highlight choice
and press enter key.
7. Press Alt+F to activate the find next button.
8. Press escape key to read the first result.
9. Use CTRL+page down to move down through the document to subsequent
results or CTRL+page up command to move to previous results in the document.

When focus moves to the results in the document, the highlighted result will
be selected so you can use shift key with JAWS key and down arrow to read
selected text, which should be the highlighted text.

Take care.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] question

I'm using win7-64bit ult, jaws 12 64-bit and word 2010.

I've got an assignment where I must read thru a word document and highlight
specific words as if I was using a highlight pen.

I can achieve this by going into the menu home, font, highlight, then select
my desired color. Then as I read thru the document I can use
ctrl-shift-right arrow to select the word or words to be highlighted then I
can press ctrl-alt-h to highlight it.

Thanx,

John
