Hi Don, I know this is a very old message, but I am now getting a new
computer and am wondering how you can know which programs are bloatware and
can be safely removed?

Many thanks! Vicky

Don,

I agree. I try to get down to as close to a pure Window's
image as possible then make my starting image in case I ever
need to restore. I wish they would include a disk with just
the operating system and another with all the junk

Since this is a brand new computer, I would attempt to
remove all of the
bloated software included by the manufacturor. Most are
paid to include
trial versions from other companies. Most of these, like
Norton, you
could not pay me to use. They also install a ton of
accessory and extra
software for supporting their hardware. Some run in the
background and
are meant to keep your drivers from them up-to-date.
Unfortunately, I
have found all software from manufacturers not usable! I
usually
attempt once. I remove or disable almost all of their
software.

Hi Riana Vicky,

Were your computers working fine then all of sudden the

computer

started
reacting really slow in responding to the keyboard

commands? I have

played
around with Keyboard Accessibility Options in the

control panel

haven't
been able to duplicate the problem. I had this same issue

several

months
ago but, it had to do with using an adaptor to make a USB

keyboard work

on a
PS2 computer. I know I'm not being much help but, these

weird

occurrences
like the both of yours intrigue me. Take care.

   Dear Listers,

I tend to differ with the suggestions made, although I

unfortunately

don't have a solution, but I'm experiencing the same

annoying issue,

although the delay is not such that I can't live with

it,

approximately
two seconds, on a brand new quad cor processor pc with

four gig of

ram,
   under
windows 7 64 bit, with only nod32 and outlook running,

with almost a

terabyte free memory on the hard drive, while on my

notebook, running

the same version, latest of jaws, also with 4 gig ram

but only a duel

cor processor, also windows 7 64 bit, running only

outlook and Nod32,

with five times less memory on the hard drive left,

it's more than a

   second faster.

   Regards,

   Riana

Hi folks, I'm using Jaws 11 on a laptop and desktop

both using

Windows
   XP.
On both of them, I can wait several seconds after I

have pressed a

key,
before Jaws either echoes it or responds to it.

Do any of you have any ideas as to how I can decrease

the wait?

I changed the Jaws cursor voice in the Jaws options voices, but it didn’t

I am having difficulty understanding the voice that the OCR feature is

Re: [JAWS-Users] Authorization key stroke not working

2011-09-22 Thread Trouble
Like stated before keyboard has no effect on this problem. The reason
why is if you buy a computer in the USA. Then everything install to
English by default. Jaws will go with defaults on install unless changed.
All insert + j does is bring jaws window to front and give focus. Now
if that window is already in the foreground then the key may not work
as stated. Do know if jaws is set to task tray that key does work.

That is because you don't have to. if you have any activations left
it will use one of them. If you have none left then you will have to
request more from FS from the FS activate page.

Keys can never be reclaimed just used.

That key combo only opens up the jaws about box for me. It tells you
how many you got left, but that is not how to activate jaws.

Since this is a brand new computer, I would attempt to
remove all of the
bloated software included by the manufacturor. Most are
paid to include
trial versions from other companies. Most of these, like
Norton, you
could not pay me to use. They also install a ton of

Not an issue. On the desktop where Insert+j, a doesn't yield the
info,

instead alt-tab to the JAWS window and then press alt+h, a. On that
desktop you have JAWS set to run from the taskbar. on the others you
have it set to run from the system Tray. You can change this in the
JAWS
basics dialogue. on that desktop when you alt-tab to JAWS press the
alt

key and then with the arrow keys explore the menu options.
Keyboard configurations have nothing to do with this case.

2011-09-22 Thread Mike Barbara
Hi Fanus;

As Trouble stated, you don't need to deactivate Jaws. You are allowed to
run Jaws on as many as 3 computers, providing they are all your own
computers, at least that is what I understand, if I'm wrong, someone
please jump in to straighten me out. Below are steps on how to find out how
many activation keys you have remaining how to get a reset of your
activation keys.

I posted a question to FS about how to determine the number of activation
keys remaining. In case any of you wanted to find out, here are their
instructions, verbatim:

Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific Support.

We suggest going to FSACTIVATE.com

http://www.fsactivate.com
2. Click on the continue product activation button.
3. Down arrow to: Verify the number of activation keys available for
your Freedom Scientific product and press enter.
4. Down arrow to serial number and again down arrow to edit.
Type in your JAWS serial number and press enter on the submit button.
5. Underneath the first seven digits of the authorization number, you
will find the number of keys remaining.

If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact
us.

Hope this has helped. Take care.

Installing JAWS and Not Burn a Key

This is relevant to Windows XP, so your folder names may be different. Also

this is only a suggested process and the author will not assume any
liability if

it does not work as advertised on your system. But others have used it with

success.

PREPARATION
Before you make any changes to your system you must preserve two folders on

another drive or partition so you can copy them later. Do this now while

you're thinking about it. Doing this after you've made changes is useless.

1. Open C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific
2. Copy the folder called 'activator'
3. Paste this folder to some other drive on your computer or an external

backup drive to keep it safe.
4. Do the same for the folder 'authorization'.
5. Now you will have these two folders preserved for when you need them

later. Don't lose them or forget where you put them.
6. If you have some sort of archiving software or a synchronization
software,

set it up so that these two folders are automatically backed up. Then you
don't

even need to think about them.

UPDATING JAWS
If you update your version of JAWS it is recommended you recopy these two

folders after the install is complete. Again if you use an automatic backup

process you don't need to worry about this step.

USING THESE FOLDERS
Follow these steps if you are ever confronted with the message to
re-authorize

your installation of JAWS. This can occur if you change some hardware, or

add a drive or RAM.
1. Be sure to be running the newest version of JAWS when you restart your

computer. If you don't, the activation may not cover all versions you have

installed. So if you have version 9, 11, and 12 installed, be sure to boot
using

JAWS 12.
2. If or when the activation dialog comes up, cancel out of the dialog.
3. Copy the two folders 'activator' and 'authorization' from your backup
drive.
4. Paste both to the C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific folder.
5. Allow all files to be overwritten.
6. Reboot your computer.

CAVEATS
This should work as long as you do so on the same machine (computer). It is

not known to work if you try to paste these two folders onto the C: drive of
a

different computer. That would obviously violate the whole purpose of the

keys -- to prevent JAWS from being installed on too many computers.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] message when trying to play a DVD movie

When playing movies in WMP, I usually do not have a problem.
Here is the message I received when I tried to play a certain DVD.
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to turn on
analog copy protection on the output display.

Does anyone know what this means?
Maybe this DVD is a format that is not supported by WMP?
running windows 7 with latest Jaws.
thanks for any help.

Re: [JAWS-Users] message when trying to play a DVD movie

2011-09-22 Thread Hamit Campos
Did you have JAWS running? If so, that's why you got that. It thinks Jaws
wants to coppy the DVD so it won't run. This is why I'm glad Microsoft got
rid of the Mirror driver in Windows 8. Hopefully the new CDI driver as I
remember it being called doesn't do this. What this sadely means is, that if
you want to play this DVD, you'll have to use Narrator
. Practicly all my DVDs hav this happen if JAWS or Window Eyes are running.
I wander what would happen if you run NVDA or System Access since they don't
hook the video like those to JFW a nd W E do. But yeah, that's how I deal
with it. I just use Narrator and shut down JAWS. FS knows about this by the
way, I've told them. I notised it when I got my laptop with Vista. It did
this too.

[JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007

2011-09-22 Thread Greg Washington
Hello everyone,
I am using Jaws 12.0.1170 on a windows 7 64 bit machine. I cannot figure out
how to select multiple columns or rows to insert, or unhide. For example if I
am on column A and columns b- e are hidden and I want to unhide just column B
and C I don't know how to do that. When I use control+left arrow to highlight
column A to column E and then hit alt h,o,u and select unhide columns of course
I unhide all the columns from B to E, not just B and C. Can anyone tell me how
to just unhide the columns I want and not the whole range?

I have similar problems when trying to insert more than one column or row in a
excel spreadsheet. I can only do one column or row at a time and not a range
of rows or columns.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] the say-all command in jaws 13

2011-09-22 Thread jim
When using the say-all command with jaws 13 it some times like to jump around.
For example if I am reading an article in the news paper on NFB news line, it
will jump to the previous article right in the middle of the current article.
And some times while in say-all when I press the right arrow to skip that line
of text it will skip to the next heading.
Has any one else notice these problems in the say-all in Jaws 13?
I have already sent Freedom scientific a report about this problem, I was just
wondering if any one else was having this problem.

there is an application I'm using, I got it for free from somewhere

it puts an application in the start menu and when you activate it
brings up a list of any USB devices plugged into your machine it also
has a set of menu's, the first is actions in which you can
disconnect, reconnect, and a few other options to use and I have never
had it fail to properly disconnect something when I told it to do so!

I use it with jaws with no real problem

the only flaw I have found with it is that it tends to interpret any
second or third drive type device as the same type as the first one I
plug

in.

I.E. if I plug in a Kingston thumb drive, then a external Hitachi hard
drive it will call both of them Kingston thumb drives, although it
will mark the first as drive f and the second as drive g so you can
figure out which is actually witch

and reverse, if I plug in the Hitachi first both are called Hitachi
drive though with the drive letter differentiation as above noted.

give it a try, as I said its a freebee (it may have come from

Select as far down or to the right as you want your rows and collumns to go.

Press control pc cursor. That will bring up a list box which says insert
