For those who need somebody to make the conversion where ever it says right click you can use your applications key instead. Daily Tip: Clear Recent Documents If those recent documents that are listed in your Start menu are driving you nuts, you can clear them out. Right-click Start and select Properties. Click the Start Menu tab, and select Customize. Click the Advanced tab under the Customize Start Menu window. Now you can either click the Clear List option, which will just clear out all the recent documents, or you can uncheck the List My Most Recently Opened Documents checkbox to stop showing recent documents altogether. Re: [JAWS-Users] Authorization key stroke not working
Like stated before keyboard has no effect on this problem. The reason why is if you buy a computer in the USA. Then everything install to English by default. Jaws will go with defaults on install unless changed. All insert + j does is bring jaws window to front and give focus. Now if that window is already in the foreground then the key may not work as stated. Do know if jaws is set to task tray that key does work. Re: [JAWS-Users] How to deactivate Jaws
Hi Fanus; As Trouble stated, you don't need to deactivate Jaws. You are allowed to run Jaws on as many as 3 computers, providing they are all your own computers, at least that is what I understand, if I'm wrong, someone please jump in to straighten me out. Below are steps on how to find out how many activation keys you have remaining how to get a reset of your activation keys. I posted a question to FS about how to determine the number of activation keys remaining. In case any of you wanted to find out, here are their instructions, verbatim: Thank you for contacting Freedom Scientific Support. We suggest going to FSACTIVATE.com http://www.fsactivate.com 2. Click on the continue product activation button. 3. Down arrow to: Verify the number of activation keys available for your Freedom Scientific product and press enter. 4. Down arrow to serial number and again down arrow to edit. Type in your JAWS serial number and press enter on the submit button. 5. Underneath the first seven digits of the authorization number, you will find the number of keys remaining. If you have any additional questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. Hope this has helped. Take care. Mike Original Message - From: Farfar Carlson Installing JAWS and Not Burn a Key This is relevant to Windows XP, so your folder names may be different. Also this is only a suggested process and the author will not assume any liability if it does not work as advertised on your system. But others have used it with success. PREPARATION Before you make any changes to your system you must preserve two folders on another drive or partition so you can copy them later. Do this now while you're thinking about it. Doing this after you've made changes is useless. 1. Open C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific 2. Copy the folder called 'activator' 3. Paste this folder to some other drive on your computer or an external backup drive to keep it safe. 4. Do the same for the folder 'authorization'. 5. Now you will have these two folders preserved for when you need them later. Don't lose them or forget where you put them. 6. If you have some sort of archiving software or a synchronization software, set it up so that these two folders are automatically backed up. Then you don't even need to think about them. UPDATING JAWS If you update your version of JAWS it is recommended you recopy these two folders after the install is complete. Again if you use an automatic backup process you don't need to worry about this step. USING THESE FOLDERS Follow these steps if you are ever confronted with the message to re-authorize your installation of JAWS. This can occur if you change some hardware, or add a drive or RAM. 1. Be sure to be running the newest version of JAWS when you restart your computer. If you don't, the activation may not cover all versions you have installed. So if you have version 9, 11, and 12 installed, be sure to boot using JAWS 12. 2. If or when the activation dialog comes up, cancel out of the dialog. 3. Copy the two folders 'activator' and 'authorization' from your backup drive. 4. Paste both to the C:\Program Files\Freedom Scientific folder. 5. Allow all files to be overwritten. 6. Reboot your computer. CAVEATS This should work as long as you do so on the same machine (computer). It is not known to work if you try to paste these two folders onto the C: drive of a different computer. That would obviously violate the whole purpose of the keys -- to prevent JAWS from being installed on too many computers. Re: [JAWS-Users] message when trying to play a DVD movie
Did you have JAWS running? If so, that's why you got that. It thinks Jaws wants to coppy the DVD so it won't run. This is why I'm glad Microsoft got rid of the Mirror driver in Windows 8. Hopefully the new CDI driver as I remember it being called doesn't do this. What this sadely means is, that if you want to play this DVD, you'll have to use Narrator . Practicly all my DVDs hav this happen if JAWS or Window Eyes are running. I wander what would happen if you run NVDA or System Access since they don't hook the video like those to JFW a nd W E do. But yeah, that's how I deal with it. I just use Narrator and shut down JAWS. FS knows about this by the way, I've told them. I notised it when I got my laptop with Vista. It did this too. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of jim Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2011 2:41 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] message when trying to play a DVD movie When playing movies in WMP, I usually do not have a problem. Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007
Greg, First, if I remember, your are using Office 2007, correct? I finally did successfully download a trial version of Office 2010 thanks to your directions. Anyway by your descriptions, you must be using the traditional MS ribbons and not the JAWS ribbon feature, correct? Now to your question. The only way in the past with Office 2000 and in my limited working with Office 2010 I think you have to have cells or columns directly adjacent to what you want to unhide highlighted. Using your example below I think you would have a two step process to accomplish what you want to. I cannot figure out how to select multiple columns or rows to insert, or unhide. For example if I am on column A and columns b- e are hidden and I want to unhide just column B and C I don't know how to do that. When I use control+left arrow to highlight column A to column E and then hit alt h,o,u and select unhide columns of course I unhide all the columns from B to E, not just B and C. Can anyone tell me how to just unhide the columns I want and not the whole range? I have similar problems when trying to insert more than one column or row in a excel spreadsheet. I can only do one column or row at a time and not a range of rows or columns. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007
Al, First, I'm glad I was able to help you successfully download Office 2010. Yes, I am using Office 2007 using the MS ribbon when unhiding columns. I find that easier than using the Jaws ribbon for that function. If I am on column A and columns b-e are hidden I can unhide all of those hidden columns by using control+right arrow from A to F. However I was wondering if there is a way I could unhide b and c and leave D and E hidden in one step. Likewise I would like to be able to insert more than one column or row at a time. I think I was able to do that in Excel 2003. but I cannot remember how -Original Message- From: Alan Robbins Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2011 6:03 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007 Greg, First, if I remember, your are using Office 2007, correct? [JAWS-Users] the say-all command in jaws 13
When using the say-all command with jaws 13 it some times like to jump around. For example if I am reading an article in the news paper on NFB news line, it will jump to the previous article right in the middle of the current article. And some times while in say-all when I press the right arrow to skip that line of text it will skip to the next heading. Has any one else notice these problems in the say-all in Jaws 13? I have already sent Freedom scientific a report about this problem, I was just wondering if any one else was having this problem. I use it with jaws with no real problem the only flaw I have found with it is that it tends to interpret any second or third drive type device as the same type as the first one I plug in. I.E. if I plug in a Kingston thumb drive, then a external Hitachi hard drive it will call both of them Kingston thumb drives, although it will mark the first as drive f and the second as drive g so you can figure out which is actually witch and reverse, if I plug in the Hitachi first both are called Hitachi drive though with the drive letter differentiation as above noted. give it a try, as I said its a freebee (it may have come from http://www.freedownloadaday.com/) take care, elf . Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007
Select as far down or to the right as you want your rows and collumns to go. Press control pc cursor. That will bring up a list box which says insert collumns and rows. Find what you want and then press enter. Also, you can get to it with the applications key, or the right mouse button. -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Greg Washington Sent: Thursday, September 22, 2011 7:53 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Selecting multiple columns or rows in Excel 2007 Al, First, I'm glad I was able to help you successfully download Office 2010.
