guys this isn't the ductal that doris heard about that would be released.
that version is still being worked on. This version is one that a few
people got from the original owners when trying to work on that version
that hasn't been released. Hope that clears it up. It's a sapi version of
ductal 5.0 with sounds close to what the ductal usb sounds like and
sounds more closely to mobile speak.

HI? DECTalk was or is commercial software and someone has to have the
copyright on the sapi dectalk unless it is a homecooked program, in
which case this should not be on list. List Daddy Dave might spank us

both.

*grin*

If I remember correctly, one version of DECTAlk is actulaly supposed
to be open source but I did not look into this.

I will contact you off list where we can continue this intersting
conversation and research project and if we find an official source or
homepage, we can still share with the group.

Sorry everyone for my curiosity getting the better of me and asking
about sapi dectalk. Since it was a question of it working with jaws, I
hope it was not too off topic.

If this is something that is not an official product or not just yet,
Ms.

Arianna and I will take this off list.

Thanks bunches

Doris

is there no official homepage for the program?

First, I have to send the program as an attachment and the email lists
do not allow attachments.

This is why I said I'd send it to you directly if I have your email
address.

There is no charge for this and I don't think it's brand new. I don't
even remember where I got it; I think it was from one of the lists.

so, send me your email address and I'll get it off to you. You can

Dear MIss Ariana,

I am sure more than I are intested in a sapi version of DECTAlk. I
know that a Miss Margret on here especially would love it as she has
mentioned her frustration of DECTalk Access32 not working with
anything higher than jaws 10. IN fact, this is of interst beyond this
jaws list as a sapi version of DECTAlk would work not only with jaws
but anything that supported sapi. I know nvda users would love to
have another light-weight but better sounding synth to use with nvda.

I had heard about a sapi version being worked on but not of it having
been released.

so why not just post the homepage of the program or is it being sold
by GW Micro as DECTalk Access used to be?

Also the price tag would be intersting to know.

Anyway, I think we all would benefit from the information and not
just me. Maybe this shiny new DECTalk was released just in time for

Christmas?

Thanks for any Information!

Eagerly and curiously awaiting your reply!

FYI, on this.
The deck talk sapi that is used by the different screen readers was
made just for those readers. So using any part of it is considered a
hack of the copy rights.

Also those companies look for stuff like this so they know who to go after.

[JAWS-Users] System Restore Question

2011-12-16 Thread jerry martin
Good Morning All.

I have a question regarding the System Restore feature. I am currently using
JAWS 11 with Windows Vista (32 bit). I know for a fact (or at least in my
experience) that JAWS does not work well with the system restore function
because it does not read some of the operations. In the more current version
of JAWS, has this issue been resolved? This is coming from a person with no
useable vision. Many Thanks.

If common sense were so common, why is there so little of it around?

Good Morning All.

I have a question regarding the System Restore feature. I am currently
using JAWS 11 with Windows Vista (32 bit). I know for a fact (or at
least in my experience) that JAWS does not work well with the system
restore function because it does not read some of the operations. In the
more current version of JAWS, has this issue been resolved? This is
coming from a person with no useable vision. Many Thanks.

Re: [JAWS-Users] System Restore Question

2011-12-16 Thread Steve
The only way I think you can get any speech in safe mode is with NVDA and a
USB soundcard.

Here is a post from a different list by a guy who has a method to get speech
in safe mode. He doesn't use Jaws though.

Hi,
for all the techies who havent heard about this yet.
audio in safe mode, download the keys from the sendspace link at the bottom

Instructions

while in safe mode I use NVDA as the screen reader, then dont need to
install the video driver.

how to use the keys
if windows can boot ok windows is running
then just press enter on the key, activate sound in safe mode.reg
you need to say yes this will add keys to the safe boot tree in the
registry that will enable the audio service to startup
now you can boot into safe mode using the following 2 methods
1.
press windows r to open the run box
in the run box type, msconfig press enter
the system configuration window will open
either shift tab once to get up into the tabs use the right arrow,
or use control tab find the boot tab
its called the Boot tab in windows 7, boot.ini tab in xp
once on the boot tab, start tabbing through the options you will find
boot option Safe boot, you need to check this
then tab once more you will find radio buttons
use the arrow keys to choose either minimal or network
if you are trouble shooting a connection issue you want network
support, then choos network
note, if you choose network, while you are connected to the internet
you have no securety running.
if you dont want network support, then choos mimimal
now just tab to the ok button hit the space bar.
on xp you will get a window saying need to restart, on windows 7 you
will not recieve this need to restart the system yourself.
while booting up, if you have user accounts setup, it will hang on
this screen wait for you to choos a user put in the password
On xp when the system boots into safe mode you will here the windows
log on sound then you will hear a ding sound,
the ding is a window stating you are in safe mode, just press enter to say
ok.

You will not get this ding sound in windows 7.
dont forget things in safe mode are a lot slower, so wait a while for
the desktop so on to load before you try to start NVDA
In xp when you get NVDA running you may find a system configuration
window saying, is in selective mode so on, I normally tab to never
show this again check it, then tab to ok
Once you are finished doing what you want to in safe mode, you need
to go back into msconfig into the boot tab uncheck boot into safe mode.
If you dont do this, you will just keep starting up in safe mode.

2. reboot after the bios screen hit f8, once the options come up,
choos safe mode or safe mode with networking.

how to use the keys If windows is broken wont boot up normaly
boot into safe mode
plug in a USB stick, I have named mine zebra, so all I do is open
computer, by pressing windows e, press z, this then lands me on my stick
then go into the stick I press, A to land on activate sound with
safe mode.reg
then hit enter on it, then hit enter again to say yes, and the keys are set.
then you need to reboot back into safe mode for the audio service to start
up.

If the onboard audio doesnt startup, then you will need to use a USB
headset.

It works great its a reall help when trouble shooting issues.

get the registry keys from
http://www.sendspace.com/file/n9khxf

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Note that in Outlook 2007 there are a couple of radio buttons that are
important.
Open the address book and tab around until you find one of two options:
Name Only
More Columns.
If the radio button for, More Columns is checked, you will not see any names
displayed.
Arrow to the Names only radio button, and you should see the names that are

I don't think you can completely bypass the spell check. But when it finds
the first error, I just press escape which brings up a message saying that
the spell check has been stopped and do you want to send anyway? Press
enter for yes and the message is on its way. This works in Outlook 2000 and

Actually if you go into options and proofreading, you should be able to find
a checkbox or check spelling before sending, personally I wish everyone
would keep it turned on, based on some of the messages I see, and this goes

Oh, go figure, now spell check is working the way it should, on this message

Re: [JAWS-Users] Outlook and Jaws

2011-12-16 Thread Rose Combs
If you use the insert v option you can find an item to set that setting. I
am not enamored with the search box on the quick settings only because I
seem never to remember the name of what I am searching for an get no results
or things way off target. Maybe if you type in header, you will find it but
I find I am almost always going through 90% of the list to find what I am
looking for. This was especially annoying when I was trying to set up IE
nine to make a sound on a link, which I had to do from the insert F6 item
instead of the quick settings.

Maybe it is because I use 9 at work and am so used to the old configuration
manager, I just find the setting center and quick settings more difficult to
use, then again, probably once I set everything to my liking when a new Jaws
is out, then seldom go there again, I am just not familiar with it, it
probably would be nice, if I needed to use it more.

When I am home regular Google is fine, however, at work I loved the
Accessible version, it was quick and fast and I did not have to spend a long
time trying to find where to start reading, did not have to see adds and got

it all the time for medications, cancer trials, medical equipment, terms I
was not familiar with and need to see a bit more detail sometimes to be sure
I was hearing the dictator correctly. Now I hate having to use the regular

[JAWS-Users] Why the fuss here about Google? Just use this very alive accessible google search page without all the annoying stuff

2011-12-16 Thread Dujari, Prateek

I've been following the gripes being expressed here about the regular search at
google.com with JAWS and all the google annoyances that google thrusts in your
face at google.com. so why even bother with google.com when u can still very
effectively and equally thoroughly use the accessible google search page that
is a delight to this day to use with JAWS.

First, I have to send the program as an attachment and the email lists do
not allow attachments.

This is why I said I'd send it to you directly if I have your email
address.

There is no charge for this and I don't think it's brand new. I don't
even remember where I got it; I think it was from one of the lists.

so, send me your email address and I'll get it off to you. You can then

Dear MIss Ariana,

I am sure more than I are intested in a sapi version of DECTAlk. I know
that a Miss Margret on here especially would love it as she has mentioned
her frustration of DECTalk Access32 not working with anything higher than
jaws 10. IN fact, this is of interst beyond this jaws list as a sapi
version of DECTAlk would work not only with jaws but anything that
supported sapi. I know nvda users would love to have another
light-weight but better sounding synth to use with nvda.

I had heard about a sapi version being worked on but not of it having
been released.

so why not just post the homepage of the program or is it being sold by
GW Micro as DECTalk Access used to be?

Also the price tag would be intersting to know.

Anyway, I think we all would benefit from the information and not just
me. Maybe this shiny new DECTalk was released just in time for Christmas?

Thanks for any Information!

Eagerly and curiously awaiting your reply!

Re: [JAWS-Users] say all in Jaws 12

2011-12-16 Thread Miriam Vieni
My bad news is that if I fixed the problem, it was only temporary or I
didn't really fix it because I encountered the same issue just now, reading
an article that had been pasted into an email and Jaws stopped cold and When
I looked to see where I was, I was back at the beginning of the article.

With Jaws 12, if you have Internet Explorer opened, just do insert-6.

You will get the searchbox that you are getting familiar with on your Win 7
machine where you hit the windows key and start typing and it auto-completes
the entry for you.

In this case with Jaws, after you press insert-6, just type page, for
example, or refresh. When you hit down arrow, you will hear Jaws announce
your search result. Just press enter and then spacebar will alternate
through your choices. You want the page refresh filter turned off or
suppressed.
Hope that helped.

Don't worry about what people think--they don't do it very often!

Likely, you are getting either a page refresh or a flash refresh.

Try turning off the automatic page refresh under HTML options. I think in
Jaws 12, you can just type in page refresh using the insert-6 dialog.

On muy old Windows XP computer, we recently installed Jaws 12. But very
often, if I use say all to read a long email or an article on the web,
Jaws stops reading suddenly and I am returned to the beginning of the
article or email. Has anyone encountered this and is there a solution?
I've resorted to reading line by line. Or, occasionally, if I use say
 all
and remember the last phrase I heard, I can find it again with Jaws Find
 and
continue. I emailed FS when this happened and they made one or two
suggestions, but these didn't work. I haven't had occasion to see if the
 problem exists in word.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Keystroke for Symbols List

2011-12-16 Thread Misty Dawn Bradley

Hi,
Windows XP and probably other versions of Windows have the Character Map.
You can get to it by going into the start menu and going to programs and
then accessories and then system tools.
When you get to system tools, you hit right arrow to go into that menu and
then arrow down until you hear the words character map. I think that it is
the first option in that menu.
