Hello Kevin,
Yes, it is the protected mode which is preventing you from reading the
document. To remove the protected mode on a per document basis:
1. Open the document that is in protected mode and when you hear JAWS
announce this document is in protected mode press the f6 key on your
keyboard. You should now hear the same message again now tab to and
press the spacebar or enter on the begin editing button.
Hope that helps

You can do all of these things in TW Blue as well, with or without a window.

You've a choice of keymaps, Qwitter (the old Qube) being one. Very
accessible with JAWS, naturally.

Hi,
I use The Qube.
I like it better than TW Blue, because you drive it with key board commands
and there is no window to mess with on your computer. It runs totally in the
back ground, and you can use it no matter what other window you are in. It
has buffers for followers, friends, and you can create a buffer for each
person's timeline you are following or is following you. Holding down
windows and ctrl and pressing a letter or symbol controls the Qube. Take
care and have a great Christmas.

Re: [JAWS-Users] rip CD

2016-01-10 Thread Trish
to get it on your phone, you have to use iTunes.
You can select music on your computer, then copy to clipboard, and paste it
into the iTunes folder typically located in your “my music” folder on your
computer.
If iTunes is not installed on your computer, then you would have to get it
first and install it.
Of course, you could do the iCloud route bypassing install of iTunes, and look
inside the music app on phone and select think it is match or something to that
affect. I don’t use this method, so am bit fuzzy on how to do it. I use iTunes.

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 Startup Sounds

Hi Steven,
In w-10, when you do a restart of your computer, all windows sounds work
correctly.
When you do a shut down and then a start up, your computer comes on by way
of the quick start feature in w-10.
There are no windows sounds because you are not starting your system from a
cold start.
You are starting your system from a w-10 image file that was saved when you
shut down your computer.
This allows your computer to start up in about 10 seconds.
This is one of the advantages of w-10, it's quick start up time.
Yes, if you disable the quick start, you will get the traditional windows
start up sounds.
Because at that point you will be doing a cold start up, then your wait time
will be any where from 30 to 60 seconds, depending on your computer.
The new w-10 quick start is a combination of the Hibernation mode and sleep
modes combined.
I have used this quick start for about five months now, no negative impact
on Jaws at all.
Your computer is shut down, no heat or activity at all from your tower.
Simply press the power button to quick start your w-10 computer.
Your computer resumes in about 10 seconds, you are on the password or pin
log-in screen.
So, just to repeat, using the quick start in w-10 does not negatively impact
Jaws.
You are just quickly starting up your w-10 computer.
By turning off the quick start feature in w-10.
You will have a much longer start up time, and yes, the windows start up
sounds will be heard.
So, finally, this is a personal preference, no right or wrong way to have
the quick start on or off in w-10.
Personally, I have always used the w-10 quick start, this is a great time
saver when you wish to quickly get on your computer.
Again, this quick start feature does not impact Jaws in the least.
The only thing you get by turning quick start off is a longer start up time,
and the windows sounds.
So, I hope this helps you to understand the w-10 quick start feature a
little better.

Love God! with your heart, mind, and soul, that you might be blessed
reaching His goal.
Love your Neighbor as you would yourself, God will truly reward you with
good health.
Love God, your neighbor, as you love yourself, you will then be spiritually
balanced with wealth.
Love His Word that proceeds from His lips, then reflect on the heavens where
God sits.

Hi Steven,

sounds work correctly.
When you do a shut down and then a start up, your computer
comes on by way of the quick start feature in w-10.
There are no windows sounds because you are not starting
your system from a cold start.
You are starting your system from a w-10 image file that was
saved when you shut down your computer.
This allows your computer to start up in about 10 seconds.
This is one of the advantages of w-10, it's quick start up
time.
Yes, if you disable the quick start, you will get the
traditional windows start up sounds.
Because at that point you will be doing a cold start up,
then your wait time will be any where from 30 to 60 seconds,
depending on your computer.
The new w-10 quick start is a combination of the Hibernation
mode and sleep modes combined.
I have used this quick start for about five months now, no
negative impact on Jaws at all.
Your computer is shut down, no heat or activity at all from
your tower.
Simply press the power button to quick start your w-10
computer.
Your computer resumes in about 10 seconds, you are on the
password or pin log-in screen.
So, just to repeat, using the quick start in w-10 does not
negatively impact Jaws.
You are just quickly starting up your w-10 computer.
By turning off the quick start feature in w-10.
You will have a much longer start up time, and yes, the
windows start up sounds will be heard.
So, finally, this is a personal preference, no right or
wrong way to have the quick start on or off in w-10.
Personally, I have always used the w-10 quick start, this is
a great time saver when you wish to quickly get on your
computer.
Again, this quick start feature does not impact Jaws in the
least.
The only thing you get by turning quick start off is a
longer start up time, and the windows sounds.
So, I hope this helps you to understand the w-10 quick start
feature a little better.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 Startup Sounds

2016-01-10 Thread david

hello;
well, there is a registry tweak you can perform for windows 8, so I would
assume that it also may work for windows 10.
I will post a link with steps, however, I caution folks to be careful, and
to backup registry before doing any change.

How To Customize Windows 8 Shutdown, Logon and Logoff Sounds

Windows 7 and previous versions let you easily customize the sounds played
when you Logon, Logoff or Shutdown your computer. You can still do it in
Windows
8, but these and other sound alerts are hidden by default. But with a simple
Registry tweak, you can get them back, and customize them to your liking.

Here you can see that Windows Logon, Logoff and Shutdown Program Events aren’t
listed in Sounds. After the Registry hack, you’ll see a lot more options

listed.

Registry Hack for Sound Events

Note: Before doing any Registry tweaking, make sure you
Back it Up First!

First use the
Keyboard shortcut
Windows Key+R to bring up the Run line and type: regedit and hit Enter.

Registry Editor opens up and you need to go to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\EventLabels under EventLabels you’ll see a list
of subfolders for different

sound events for Windows 8.

Registry Editor

Scroll down the list and click WindowsLogOff. In the right pane, you’ll see
the key ExludeFromCPL. Double click on it and change the value to 0 and
click

OK.
so if you're a jaws user, you need to first find the WindowsLogOff
now tab one time you're in a list of 3 items,
arrow down you will see/hear,
ExludeFromCPL
press enter,
notice the value is set to 1, backspace, and type 0
now tab okay press enter.

WindowsLogon ExludeFromCPL

Repeat the exact same steps for the SystemExit and WindowsLogoff subfolders.
In the end, SystemExit, WindowsLogoff and Windows Logon subfolder
ExludeFromCPL
key values will each be set to 0. When you’re done, close out of Registry
Editor.

SystemExit

Customize Logoff, Logon and Shutdown Sounds

Now from the Desktop, right click the Sound icon on the Taskbar and select
Sounds. Or hit Windows Key + W to bring up Setting Search and type: sounds.

Settings Search

Then select Change System Sounds under the search results.

Change System Sounds

Now you’ll see the entries in the Program Events list, and can customize
them like you would in previous versions of Windows.

Sounds

You can use this Registry tweak for other sounds that aren’t listed in
Program Events too. If you like to customize every aspect of Windows 8, now
you

can – have fun!

for a "clean" offline installer:
select the operating system, language, version, and proceed to download
button. be sure to save the installer in case you need it later.

https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/

for a "live" web based installer:
by default, the OS and language is detected for which your system is
configured. if you need an installer for a different OS, language and
version, choose the different system link.
watch out for the checkboxes opting for google chrome browser, making it
the default, and the google toolbar.

I don't know, what's the difference?all I know is if I view some documents
in word 2016 jaws announces the document is being prepared for reading or
something. jaws also says the document will be missing some elements and
not be like the original.

Hi Again Kevin,

What is it you want to download? Adobe XI or, Adobe Reader DC? Adobe
Reader DC is the latest version of Adobe Reader, & for lack of a better
explanation, it's a cloud version of Adobe Reader. If it's Adobe Reader DC
you want, I can send you a Dropbox download link for it.
Take care.

Hi Kevin,

That's not Adware. It's just how Adobe labels their installers. Here's an
example of 1 of their installers:

AdbeRdr11010_en_US

This is an installer / executable for Adobe 11.10.
Take care.

When I download Adobe Reader or Flash there is always a place where they have
the option of making Chrome the default browser and Google toolbar a download.
You simply uncheck the check box with your spacebar. And tab to the next step.
 Simple.

I downloaded Acrobat Reader DC and unchecked Chrome and the Google Toolbar
and everything went smoothly with no need for sighted help. I saw no notice
of a 30 day trial but I will deal with that if it comes up. It is a
valuable tool that people had to develop at their cost and paying for their
work and their right to be a business is fine with me.

It will install a toolbar, though. However, you are prompted whether or not
to enable it the first time you open your browser or, at least, this
happened first time I opened IE 11 after installation. Also, the
installation is absolutely not blind-friendly--I'm a highly experienced JAWS
user and former FS employee and I had to have my sighted wife help me with
the installation because absolutely nothing spoke during that process. Like
I said, I wish I'd never have heard of this program because every time I
open a document--even a single-page document--JAWS stops speaking.

And if what you want is Adobe Reader DC, be aware that it does not work very
well with JAWS. I installed it and wish I hadn't. Also, it is no longer free
after the initial 30-day trial.

Hi Walt,

I've had it installed for a lot longer than 30 days & it still works just
fine. The install went smooth with Jaws reporting the progress throughout
the installation. I went into preferences after the installation & made the
same adjustments as I did in Adobe XI & it works just fine with any PDF file
i have saved. I've only had to access a couple of on line PDF files & was
able to read them just fine as well. I'm running Jaws 15 thru 17, Windows 7
Pro, & IE10.
Take care.
