Hi Holger,

Try navigating to the iTunes folder, with the iTunes folder highlighted,
open the context menu with the applications key or with, Shift + F10, arrow
to, Exclude from Vipre Scan, & press enter. I don't know if this will work,
but you can give it a try. If it doesn't work you can remove it from
Vipre's exclusions by, highlighting the file, open the context menu, & press
enter on, Remove from Vipre Exclusions.
Take care.

Hi Holger,

Have you looked in your Quarantine folder? If Vipre seen it as some sort of
malware, that's where it would be. If it's there, find the always allow
option & click on okay. If you can run iTunes, but after you close you
can't restart it in the same session, but if you reboot the computer, & you
can start it again, then it's not Vipre.
Take care.

I believe your assumptions are correct. I have seen places where auto forms
caused errors with jaws 13 and IE 6. Auto forms might cause additional events

Kimsan,
I think the command for google chrome is alt D,
When you have a website link in your destop,
Press windows D for desktop and press the numpad that has the quick key
assign and enter.

Once it opens you can alt tab around the screens.
Alt A, also works for google.com too.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] strange sound with jaws

Hello everyone, Something very strange happened today. I was sorting my
documents folder. Cutting and pasting various word and text documents into
various folders. All of a sudden jaws started speaking with a lot of static.
Think of listening to the radio and all of a sudden you hear all this
statacky interference. I unloaded jaws and restarted it and now jaws is
speaking properly and clearly again. Has this happened to anyone before,
any ideas what would cause this?

Hi All,

Notify about new FSCasts ,this is a new feature in the latest J17.0.1539
release. You can disable it in the settings center Default All Applications.
You can search in the settings center Default All Applications by typing
FSCast or find it under, Miscellaneous, this is the miscellaneous that's
almost at the bottom, right above Last Changed Settings, it's 21 of 22,
if you wish not to be notified when there is a new FSCast. Simply uncheck
the box and select apply & okay in the settings center.

I agree with you about the frustration of a company's efforts not being
rewarded with positive results across users. Again, we see it every day.
This gets into the debate between "technically accessible" and "usability".
I see too often where the user gets blamed for the accessibility barriers,
when there very well could be technical issues like you are experiencing.
When we cannot achieve consistency across experienced users, we will not be
successful with providing access to users with average or less computer
knowledge.

Keep us posted to whether or not you find out what is causing the
differences.

Annette

Thank you, Annette. I can rule out some of these possibilities (neither of
us is on a network, for example, and we're both using the same versions of
JAWS and the same browser), but you list other variables that might have an
impact. What really troubles me is that we're trying to get a company that
appears to be making an honest effort to make its website accessible, and
yet some as-yet undetermined difference in our systems means that they've
succeeded for one of us but not both. We can demand accessibility all we
want, but if so many factors come into play, I'm not sure how the ultimate
goal of complete accessibility is possible.

I'll note these factors and see if we can't figure out the difference that
makes the accessibility difference.

I do not have an answer for you, but I see these inconsistencies all of the
time with our e-learning system at work, as well as in other instances.

I've wondered if any of the following things could be impacting the results:

. Browser security settings

. Network firewall and security settings if you are working on a
corporate network.

. Video card drivers and display settings.

. Anti-virus applications.

. Version differences with JAWS, operating system, browsers,
anti-virus, JAVA & JAVA Bridge, etc.

Can anyone suggest why two of us with similar systems are getting different
results on the same website? Unfortunately, I can't give a link because the
company involved is working with us to fix accessibility issues. The company
recently sent us a link to a new page where they believe they have made
their video player's controls accessible. The webpage works for my
colleague, but not well for me. Here are some details.

We both have Win7 machines, and I believe my colleague's is 64-bit like
mine. While he uses JAWS 16 only, I get the same results whether I use 16 or
17.

When you click on this webpage, the video starts almost immediately. No
problem there. But we want access to the pause button because the videos are
quite long. In the past, neither of us was able to access this button. On
the new page, my colleague can do so easily, while I have to play some
non-intuitive tricks to get there. Once again, more details.

My colleague can get to this button with the quick navigation key f and by
arrowing around. (I'm not clear if "b" works for him.) In my case, no quick
navigation keys land on the button, and arrowing down the page doesn't get
JAWS to verbalize it.

However, I discovered by chance that if I have focus on a certain link near
the bottom of the page and shift-tab once, the pause button suddenly
appears. Once I've done that, the pause button appears when I arrow around.
However, the quick navigation keys still don't locate it. for the record,
once JAWS found the pause button, it worked as expected.

One more note. After I close the window and reopen it, the pause button
vanishes. I have to go through the same procedure to get it to show up.

When a button is this hard to find, and when finding it involves such a
random process, I don't consider it accessible. However, it is accessible on
my colleague's system.

Any ideas why the inconsistency?

Once the shortcut and associated keystroke are set up,

There are multiple ways of doing anything in Windows, and each person has

Hi Kimber,
You didn't mention which version of Windows you are using, but this works in
Windows 7:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\SndVol.exe

Simply copy and paste this into the target field in a new shortcut.
This will open the volume control, and at that point you can simply use the
up and down arrow keys, or the page up and down keys to change the volume
level.
Once you have the volume where you want it, simply alt + F4 to close the
dialogue.
Use caution when assigning a keystroke to your shortcut so that it does not
conflict with a keystroke in another application.
If you need help in creating a shortcut, let us know.

Re: [JAWS-Users] text columns

2016-03-20 Thread Adrian Spratt
I'm copying instructions on how to create columns/tables in Word 2013 that were
posted on another list. I know the listers only by their first names, otherwise
I'd give them the credit they deserve.

Press alt-n, t.

Theresa. Press enter or space bar. Then you will find a list of different table
you can create such as 1x1, 1x2. And so on then 2x1, 2x2 and so on. The first
number refers to number of rows, the second the number of columns. For example,
1x2, would be one row and two columns.

George expands. There are many variations of this but here is one way.
1. Press ALT and then arrow to the right to Insert and press space bar.
2. Now TAB over until you hear Tables, it will be 3 or 4 TABS.
3. Press Space Bar and it brings you into a grouping of boxes. You will be in
the top left box. JAWS will say something like "1x" which is your row number.
4. Now ARROW down an JAWS will say "2x" then "3x" and so on. Arrow own to
5. Now arrow to the right twice. This will give you a beginning Table 5 rows
long and 3 columns across. Press Enter.
6. This brings you back into your Word document and you are in the upper left
cell of your new Table.
If you want to mess with the width of your columns then from here press
Applications key.
7. Arrow down to Table Properties & press enter.
8. You land in the Table properties TAB where you can set many parameters for
your table.
9. ALT + U moves you to the Columns TAB and then ALT + R takes you to the Row
properties TAB. There are also TABS for Cell and All Text.
10. In the Column TAB once an you land on Preferred width and it is checked by
default.
11. TAB once an you land in the Spin Box to set your preferred column width.
12. I forget the keystroke to move between TABS but you could use that to move
through the TABS as well.
This sounds a little complicated but like most things it is fairly straight
forward and gets easier the more you practice at it. Don't be afraid to create
tables modify them then dump the document and begin again until you get just
what you want.

Hi All,

On my home computer it was the video card. It had to be replaced. The computer
is a Dell, but i don't remember anything specifically about the card.

Take care!

Actually, Jim, it's insert-6 (no control), which Mike did include in his
updated instructions yesterday.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for reminding my old brain about the Control+insert+6 on the numbers
row.
I really don't use the Jaws settings center that much.
So, I had forgotten that short cut keystroke.
You should have written it down for me yesterday!Smiles...

Hi Jim,

Or, you can press, Insert / Jaws key + 6, on the number row to access the
Settings Center, then press, Control, Shift, + D, to get to the Settings
Center Default All Applications.
Take care.

Hi Mike,
Yes, just press Insert key+f2, for run Jaws manager.
Arrow down and press enter on setting center.
Press Control+Shift+D, for default application.
Simply type, f s.
This will bring up the F S podcast item.
Just down arrow to highlight it, it will be checked by default.
Press the Spacebar to uncheck it.
Tab to the OK button, press enter.
No need to press enter on the apply button unless you are going to make
other changes.
I hope this helps...

Re: [JAWS-Users] Dongle question

2016-03-20 Thread David Ferrin
Clean install first of all. There seems to be some sort of an issue with
that particular system, but I'm not done trying as of yet. I spoke to Dennis
which interestingly enough only lives about 15 miles from here and he
confirmed a few items. First off the windows version should have nothing to
do with the problem.

The thing that we both found odd is that when the system boots up it says
JAWS home addition demo mode. Now that is only on startup, if I go in to the
help, about window it says professional serial 801. I admit that gave him a
bit of a shock to say the least.

It is Friday and I do have a bottle of Captain Morgan out in the kitchen,
not yet but it's more of a fallback kind of plan.

It would seem that my hardware dongle has gone bad for some reason or
another. Has anybody had this problem before? Obviously it looks like a call
to tech support is in order. It must be internal as there is no physical
damage to the thing at all, just like when I bought it several years ago.
