Re: [JAWS-Users] internet explorer 11
Hello Miriam I'm not saying it's been 'dropped', rather it is no longer supported which at the moment probably means IE 11 still works most of the time, but in the very near future, my opinion is that it will become less stable across the internet as web page devs stop maintaining code specifically designed to account for IE idiosyncrasies. Re: [JAWS-Users] internet explorer 11
Yes, Microsoft have shifted their browser development efforts to Edge. Internet Explorer does not meet current Web standards, which Web application developers will increasingly rely on. The result is that everyone who wants to use any kind of complex Web application (and there will be more of them every year) will need to move away from Internet Explorer. I'm not saying "don't use it", but I am saying that you'll need to switch to something else eventually, and it's up to you when to do it. There's Firefox, Chrome, and Edge - plenty of options. Accessibility in Edge is still under development, but Microsoft made an encouraging announcement about their progress earlier this year. Over time, Web application programmers won't bother dealing with all the work-arounds needed for compatibility with Internet Explorer. Web technology moves on, leaving IE behind. Re: [JAWS-Users] internet explorer 11
Basically, what he's trying to say in a very subtle way is that you should use Firefox and not Internet Explorer. I don't understand why, as Internet Explorer is very usable and secure, and only dangerous activity will net you trouble, especially if you've got an anti-virus and malware program. I really wish people would stop doing that, suggesting people use what makes them comfortable even though there would be a very high learning curve for novice users. If the answer is there are no updates, then there are no updates and move on. Sorry, this sort of post irks me to no end. Re: [JAWS-Users] checking for updates is stuck in windows 8.1
I just installed the current Windows Updates with no problem. I'm using Windows 7, so I'm not sure this will help Anna's 8.1 system, but maybe the approach is similar. Or maybe this won't help at all. At any rate: In recent months, I've found that accessing Windows Updates via the system tray has changed. I must locate the windows Updates within the system tray, then press enter. Nothing happens, so I tab twice. Now I'm in a list that's similar to the system tray list, but now it's presented as a series of buttons. I arrow down to the Windows Updates button and once again press enter. Now at last, the updates function starts working. You can check the update and installation process by pressing JAWS key+tab. Sometimes, I completely lose the updates window, which means I need to go back into the system tray and repeat the tabbing process. In this instance, once windows Updates had finished installing an update, nothing happened. I went back into the system tray to find that another update was waiting. So I repeated the process. Finally, I got the restart button. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Annette Carr Sent: Wednesday, November 09, 2016 6:13 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] checking for updates is stuck in windows 8.1 I cannot get my Windows7 machine to get past checking for updates, or downloading a silver Lite update. [JAWS-Users] Playback and visualization options in VLC for windows with JAWS
Hi gang. Using Win8.1, Win7 on two machines and JFW 18. How do you toggle on/off the shuffle play and repeat play option while playing a folder of mp3 files? Second, is there any keyboard accessible way with JAWS to scroll up/down all the mp3 songs playing in my playlist and then choosing anyone in the list to start playing that one with JAWS. Is there a recommended visualization setting? ? For example, in Windows Media Player you can arrow key up or down amongst the song list while they are loaded to play and hitting enter on any one of them interrupts current playback and starts to play the new song. [JAWS-Users] checking for updates in windows 8.1

Re: [JAWS-Users] Protected View
It is also in the file menu so you don't have to manually find it with the Jaws cursor. Alt + F then i then E. If your office is like mine though the focus shifts and this doesn't work as it should so I have to press Alt + F then tab 3 or 4 times to get to the button. Re: [JAWS-Users] Moving from JAWS 17 to 18
You do not need to uninstall the previous JAWS version first. Multiple versions of JAWS can coexist on the same system. In fact, you won't want to because JAWS 18 has reintroduced the merge utility, even though that didn't work for me. Re: [JAWS-Users] Moving from JAWS 17 to 18
It is never required to remove the previous version of JAWS before installing a newer version. The reason is they always install in to their own directories for major versions. -Original Message- From: jyandt.mar...@comcast.net Sent: Wednesday, November 9, 2016 8:15 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Moving from JAWS 17 to 18 Regarding the installation of JAWS 18, do I need to uninstall JAWS 17 first, or can I just insert the disk and install it over the current version? Re: [JAWS-Users] Moving from JAWS 17 to 18
I find it helpful to maintain the two most recent JAWS versions on my system, the older one as a back up. As such, I would keep J17 and install J18 "over" it. If you maintain J17 at least until you install J18 your J17 settings will be preserved if you so elect.
