[JAWS-Users] here is how I repair jaws, and it works all the time, and I don't have to do much.

2017-02-17 Thread jim rawls
1. When you download a jaws update, download it from the web site.
Don't let it install automatically.

2. When the executable is downloaded and you know where it is,
highlight the executable.

3. Now hit enter on the exe.

4. Jaws should now ask you if you want to modify, repair, or uninstall
jaws.

5. Choose repair and follow the prompts jaws gives you and it's easy
peasy. Take it from me, because I am not a computer whiz.

Karim,

I think your google comment refers to my post. I understand how
it could have come across that way, but I don't mean to suggest
that this list isn't valuable or that people shouldn't post
questions. It's just that a question like what is the current
version of this or that application requires anyone answering to
check. Sometimes it makes as much sense for the person with the
question to search on google or go to some other source as to
have someone else find out the answer for you. Put another way,
Google is an option for many questions, but by no means all.
That's why I post questions here all the time.

Yes, you can safely update Flash Player from this site as long as you don't
check any check boxes that might install Google Chrome or other unwanted
software. But first, go to the Flash Player option on the Control Panel,
tab to the Update tab and scroll up from the bottom of the page using the
JAWS cursor to see whether the latest version has already been installed
automatically for IE and Firefox, if you are using it.

First, make sure you have the .exe file on your system for the JAWS build

Unlike before, it doesn't seem to matter where you keep it on your system.

Close all running apps.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Starting At Logon Screen Windows 7 Pro

2017-02-17 Thread Tim Ford
I also am experiencing what seems to be the same problem, a lack of JAWS
speech at logon. I am running Windows 10 and JAWS 17, final public release
version. On this new Asus laptop, it seems that if I do a complete
shut-down command, JAWS does not speak the first time I try to boot. I have
found that if I do a hard boot after the first failed boot, JAWS does come
up at the password field as it should. I did not have this problem with my
old laptop that I had been using up until a week or two ago. That machine
was also running final JAWS 17 release version, but under a Windows 7 Pro 32
bit HP laptop. I will play around with this new issue and see if I can find
a solution, or at least an identifiable problem. I will also have a working
set of eyes check out the screen when I do my first boot of the day; it
seems to be a morning thing with this new machine.

Doing an extra reboot is not a big deal of course, so long as JAWS continues
to come up talking after the second boot!

I vaguely remember having a situation years ago where JAWS didn't speak at

recognizable point in the reboot process, perhaps a certain click or just a
pause in the grinding.

One option is always to do a JAWS repair.

I vaguely remember having a situation years ago where JAWS didn't speak at the

recognizable point in the reboot process, perhaps a certain click or just a
pause in the grinding.

One option is always to do a JAWS repair.

Hi Everyone,

Someone at my work doesn't hear JAWS at the logon screen in Windows 7 Pro.
She logged out successfully yesterday. However, when she went to login today,
there was no speech. The cursor was in the password field when I sat down at
her computer. Once I logged her in, JAWS started up. I checked the automatic
settings for JAWS, and it is set to "Automatically start JAWS at the Logon

JAWS wasn't running?

Thanks for your help,

The most current version of Adobe Flash Player is 24.0.0.221, which you can
obtain from the following web site. Be sure to uncheck any boxes that may be

2017-02-17 Thread Cristóbal
Probably going with either One Password or LastPass.
Reading reviews, one comment as a drawback about onePassword is that you have
to log in multiple times. Is this an issue encountered by lots of folks? The
less in the way the better.
Also, both these services seem to do more or less the same thing. Wondering why
OnePassword is much more costly than LastPass?

Hello there;

1, desktop,
2, now use the keystroke,
FNKey+escape-key.
Jaws won't announce anything, but, one press of the keystroke, will enable
the function key behavior.

Hello all.

A friend accidentally pressed some sort of key combination on her laptop and
her insert key has stopped working in combination with the function keys.
None of the other keys seem to have been affected. The system is a dell
laptop running windows 7 with JAWS 17.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Mike,

Let me start out by saying the majority of people who have to type with
one
hand prefer to use the standard keyboard. They shift their hand from the
traditional "home row" position to the letters F, G, H & I. They then
just
learn how to type with their 4 fingers from that position. If the user
has
small hands, there are small keyboards designed for users with smaller
hands, or those who activate the keyboard with some type of pointer stick
(see info below on alternative keyboards). They also find it helpful to
turn on "Sticky Keys" which eliminates the need to hold down keys like
the
Shift, Control and Alt. This is part of Windows7 Ease of Access Center.
I
am not sure if the Insert key is included in "Sticky Keys", so I'm not
sure
if it will help with executing JAWS commands. Here is a link to info on
how
to turn on "Sticky Keys":

s-7.html#content

Dragon Naturally Speaking speech to text software is an option, but if
using
it with JAWS it used to be that you had to use an additional piece of
software call J-Say. At one time only the Professional version of Dragon
worked with J-Say and JAWS. J-Say allowed JAWS and Dragon to play nicely
together. To be honest with you, Dragon is not for everyone.

There used to be a way to access a "half-QWERTTY" keyboard and other
keyboard layouts within Microsoft Windows. Here is a link to some
information, but there is a chance that it is outdated.

https://www.microsoft.com/enable/products/altkeyboard.aspx

There are a variety of alternative keyboards available. As far as I know
there should not be any problem using JAWS with any of these keyboards
described below. Just make sure that there is an Insert key.

There are "half QWERTY" keyboards. You can read about one option,

Matias Half Keyboard & Half-QWERTY 508 Keyboard

http://www.matias.ca/halfkeyboard/index.php?refID=7

Another one handed keyboard is the BAT keyboard. Here is some info from
the
web, followed by the URL for more info.

Infogrip's BAT Keyboard is a one-handed, compact input device that
replicates all the functions of a full-size keyboard, but with greater
efficiency and convenience. The BAT is easy to learn and use. Letters,
numbers, commands and macros are simple key combinations, "chords," that
you
can master in no time. Best of all the BAT's unique ergonomic design
reduces
hand strain and fatigue for greater comfort and productivity. The BAT is
the
ultimate typing solution for persons with physical or visual impairments
and
is proven to increase productivity when used with graphic or desktop
publishing software.
