Re: [JAWS-Users] gold wave scripts

2017-03-27 Thread Mike B.
Hi Scorpio,

Okay, this is what you said, "they don't actually belong in any one place on
your computer." So, if they don't belong any place in particular, what am I
missing? I'm under the impression that if a particular program, as i
suggested with CCleaner, needs the particular .INI file, that .INI file
should reside in that particular program's folder whether that program is in
Program Files or Program Files X86 on the root of the operating system
drive. As I stated earlier, I'm not trying to argue with anyone but, it
sounds like a .INI file serves more than 1 purpose depending on what that
purpose might be. Is this a fair assumption? Thanks much.
Take care.

Hi Mike,

I think you misunderstood my message.

The initialization file does not belong in any one spot, in other words, you
can not put it anywhere and the program will find it, so, to use your
example, if you were to put the initialization file for C-Cleaner in your
documents folder, I honestly don't know what would happen to C-Cleaner when
you tried to launch it.

I do know, however, that the C-Cleaner program will coded to look for the
initialization file within the C-Cleaner folder. Not sure if that's in the
Program files, Application Data, or somewhere else on your C drive, but yes,
each program is coded/written to look for specific files it uses in it's own
directory, and not, for example in your documents folder.

Hope that makes what I said clearer.

ini files are application specific, and they don't actually belong in any
one place on your computer. They serve as initialization file for the
application so it know what to bring up when it starts, and it also has your
license information, if any, as well as settings and other technical stuff
like that embedded in it.

the text file can be moved to wherever your heart is content as it serves no
purpose in the ENU folder. Thos are the facts at 6:31 A. M.

Hi Kimsan,

I don't have Goldwave installed, but in looking at the contents of the
scripts folder it looks like the first entry in the folder is a, .INI, file.
If I'm not mistaken the, .INI, file would go into the Goldwave folder that's
either in the Program Files or Program Files X86 folders on the root of the
C drive. Then, at the bottom is a TXT file that contains keystrokes. So,
all the rest of the files would go into the ENU folder of your particular
version of Jaws. If I'm wrong, would someone please jump in & correct me?!
Take care.

Hi, if you are using any version of JAWS higher than 15, then you can use
vocalizer Express.

It is easy to download and install.
You have a choice of the higher quallity or the lower one.
After you install it, go into the synth menu via JAWS option and select
vocalizer Express, then you can set up rate, pitch etc.

Go on the site, press JAWS key +V
In the find field, type personalize and the personalize webpage will come

I just now opened Google and typed the search term, "tomorrow's weather
forecast." I could have said today's, or Wednesday's, or whatever. The first
result doesn't help because the site uses bots, as google alerts me right away.
The second result is for the Weather Channel, an IBM company. For my region, it
gives an hour-by-hour weather report in a table form that is easily navigated
using JAWS table commands. I'm impressed.

If I were to jump on my soap box now, I'd ask why anyone would rely on the
often broken Research It when google is so dependable. But that would be
annoying, wouldn't it?

Jim,

There are some points I didn't remember here, so thanks. I have two
suggestions.

First, concerning the steps for creating a favorite in IE, the website's or
webpage's name is an edit field. I often change the name in this field,
especially when I want the name to begin with a certain letter for future
first-letter navigation.

Second, as far as I can tell, each of your placemarker setting examples
assumes no placemarkers have yet been set on a given page. When placemarkers
have already been set on a page, the first field you land on after pressing
control-shift-k lists them. To add a new one, be sure that none of these
placemarker names is selected. To deselect, press control-spacebar.

I thought about responding to the original query (posted twice), but when I set
up my website and blog, I did so with the aid of a paid service. Once it was
set up, I could, and still can, do all the tasks I need done myself. That said,
I've hired a reader to work one two-hour session a week to make sure that what
I post is accurate in every respect, including formatting. I accept that visual
appeal is an important consideration if you want to go mainstream. For the
record, my website uses wordPress.com. So I can't honestly help anyone wishing
to set up a blog, but I might be able to after the website has been created.
This is why I decided against posting a reply, and I hoped someone else would
have answers. The last thing an active list like this needs is lots of people
saying, "Sorry, can't help."

Hi Joy,
I don't believe that your messages were ignored, or that members on this
list are not helpful,
it may have been simply a matter of folks that read your messages
didn't have any answers for you.
On any e-mail list, if you don't have a helpful response to a given

Not all members check messages regularly, so it is possible that someone

Re: [JAWS-Users] Blogs

2017-03-27 Thread J.Cyr
Dear Keith,
My profound sympathies, I wrote several times in the past to this list on this
subject but for some reason I could never understand all my messages on the
topic were ignored. Fortunately there is another list with much more helpful
members, ... it isn't specifically for those of us who use Jaws but it is for
the blind and many people on it have blogs and are happy to share. Try
subscribing to: blindwebb...@yahoogroups.com

As far as blogging goes, I tried and gave up, my personal experience has been
that the free services (like wordpress.com) don't play well with Jaws, but I
hear the paid ones (like wordpress.org) do. I now co-author one which solved
the technical issues but isn't my favourite solution.

Good luck,
Sincerely,
Joy

Listen to the waterfall roar, what an awesome sound, as we stand along the
rivers shore.
Listen to God's still voice, He is our Great Sheppard now and forever, let
us rejoice.
As a piece of drift wood, we float, down the river of life, we go like a
boat.
His voice is like the current, sudden or swift, He leads you through all
life's turns and twist.
You might sometimes drift, get back in the middle of God's will, where the
current is swift.
Watch out for the rapids, and the hidden stumps, or you could be overturned
and possibly sunk.
Beware of snags and snares, God can gently remove us, because He always
cares.
Just flow with the current of God's love, knowing that He is looking down
from heaven above.

Hi Adrian, all suggestions are welcomed. I was just trying to cover some things
that were not previously covered. Yes, I like the part about editing a website
before saving it to favorites, thanks for letting me know about that one. Yes,
if you have existing place markers, make sure they are de-selected like you
said, before adding a new one. This is why I like doing it this way with the
lessons, that way we all can help each other do various tasks better. We can
also show other ways of doing various things in windows with Jaws. Thanks for
your feedback and for giving your suggestions. Smiles.

Jim,

There are some points I didn't remember here, so thanks. I have two suggestions.

First, concerning the steps for creating a favorite in IE, the website's or
webpage's name is an edit field. I often change the name in this field,
especially when I want the name to begin with a certain letter for future
first-letter navigation.

Second, as far as I can tell, each of your placemarker setting examples assumes
no placemarkers have yet been set on a given page. When placemarkers have
already been set on a page, the first field you land on after pressing
control-shift-k lists them. To add a new one, be sure that none of these
placemarker names is selected. To deselect, press control-spacebar.

Yes, that is what I had meant to convey but he will take another look when

repeatedly caused JAWS to freeze and this problem has been reported to F S
by me and others to as yet, no good end. Mitch

Re: [JAWS-Users] irratating pop ups

2017-03-27 Thread Bissett, Tom
You can stop jaws from seeing these using flexible web. As shown in the
example these are generally shown in a frame. Using flexible web you can
supress these by going into flexible and telling jaws not show these frames.
There is some good stuff in flexible web but it does take some playing with.
Check it out JawsKey + F2, scrole down to flexible web and give it a go.

Hi, Justin. I'm confused. Perhaps things work differently on my system,
which is Win7, IE11.

Yes, in both IE11 and Firefox 52, control-d enables you to make a favorite
of the webpage where you have focus. However, control-b does nothing on my
system, whether in IE 11 or Firefox 52. In Firefox, alt-b does take you
directly to favorites, but not in IE. For this command in IE11, press alt-a,
as Jim says in his list.

I could well be missing something, so please set me straight if I am.

Hi, Justin. I'm confused. Perhaps things work differently on my system, which

Yes, in both IE11 and Firefox 52, control-d enables you to make a favorite of
the webpage where you have focus. However, control-b does nothing on my system,

If I'm not mistaken the, .INI, file would go into the Goldwave folder that's

all the rest of the files would go into the ENU folder of your particular

Hi Maria,

This feature has been the same in the last several versions, if not all, or
most of them. But, it's probably 1 of the least used / utilized, so it
could be easily forgotten. If you go in there to make any changes there's
also an edit field for each key label that you can actually change what the
key label says as well. For example, by default when you press the spacebar
Jaws reports, space, but if you typed, Señor Ferrin, into this edit field
Jaws would say, Señor Ferrin, whenever you pressed the spacebar.
