Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Reading Outlook Messages

2017-07-07 Thread Fernando Gregoire
Hi Nancy,

I don't know why, but in some computers the message area does not get the
focus. To quickly workaround this without messing with the JAWS Cursor, press
SHIFT+TAB to go to the Subject field and then TAB to force focus into the
message. If after doing this the message is not spoken automatically, you
anyway will be able to use navigation and reading commands, including Say All
(INSERT+DOWN ARROW or, if you're using the Laptop keyboard layout, more
conveniently CAPS LOCK+A.

Hole it helps.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Reading Outlook Messages

Hi List,

I'm relatively new to JAWS after using Window-Eyes for years. I'm using the
latest Jaws 18 on a Windows 7 system running Outlook 2007.

When I press enter on the email message, JAWS automatically reads the sender,
subject etc. but then stops and never reads the message. The "automatically
read message" box is checked in settings.

The thing is that it won't read even with the arrow keys. It stays silent.
The "read line" command just says "blank" and the dedicated arrow keys and the
numpad arrow keys do/say nothing.

If I switch to the JAWS cursor, I first hear the subject then what must be a
menu because it says outlook adins, find etc. and if I keep going I hear all
the message headers and finally the message. But as soon as I switch back to
the PC cursor, I get nothing.

BTW - it still works correctly with Window-Eyes. I didn't try NVDA.

Any help would be appreciated.

Nancy

Good job, Judy for figuring that out!
I will get on Chrome right now, and find out why it is not showing the
events link with the m.facebook.com mobile Facebook site. That is one web
site that is better to use in IE. I use Chrome for most sites, but
sometimes, you still need IE for a few. The One Drive site works a bit
better in IE as well. However, most sites work much better in Chrome. I will
check out what you described and get back very soon!

My settings showed up on an internet page, but you then click on Advanced
heading which will expand. Content is one of the headings you click on and
it will expand. Under Flash, my system was set to Ask First, but I changed
it to Allow from there.

I do wish there were a way to show the Events link on my m.facebook.com site

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
On each line, I tell you what my computer says as I take you through the
Google Chrome menu, and I take you carefully through the settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, but it is easier to
navigate.
I hope this really helps you get started with Chrome, because it works so
well for me.
Here is the tutorial right below!
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser By David Moore This tutorial
will be done with the latest update of Chrome.
I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they both
work the same in Chrome.
Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build.
I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome.
There should be a shortcut on your desktop.
First, I will launch Chrome. We will not create a home page until we get to
the Chrome settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, or the Options dialog in IE.
Pressing the Alt key, opens the one and only, Chrome menu, with many choices
that I will arrow down through.
The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise the
window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise, and you will get
undesirable results.
I will press the Alt key.
The Chrome menu is open.
I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu.
New Tab, CTRL+T.
You can press that command right from the web site you are on.
New Window, CTRL+N
You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming

New incognito Window.
History sub menu.
I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu!
History, CTRL+H
So, there is a key command for reading your history.
You can read a few sites you were on right here.
I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu.
Downloads, CTRL+J
There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with
Chrome.
Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu.
I will press right arrow, to open this.
I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D
That command will bookmark the page you are reading.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B That command, will
show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to see. I do not want
that.
Here is the important one.
manage bookmarks
The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you
have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can
download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way

2017-07-07 Thread Adrian Spratt
Nancy,

Let me begin by assuring you that you shouldn't be having this problem with
Outlook. I've used Outlook 2003 in the distant past, and now I have 2010. I
have some vague memory of being unable to read the message field with JAWS, but
I can't remember for sure, never mind how I fixed it. One thing to check is
whether the message is maximized. With a message open, press alt-space,
release, then x. See if that helps.

If it doesn't, I hope someone else chimes in with suggestions. Everything else
that comes to my mind is pretty basic and annoying.

Good job, Judy for figuring that out!
I will get on Chrome right now, and find out why it is not showing the events
link with the m.facebook.com mobile Facebook site. That is one web site that is
better to use in IE. I use Chrome for most sites, but sometimes, you still need
IE for a few. The One Drive site works a bit better in IE as well. However,
most sites work much better in Chrome. I will check out what you described and
get back very soon!

My settings showed up on an internet page, but you then click on Advanced
heading which will expand. Content is one of the headings you click on and
it will expand. Under Flash, my system was set to Ask First, but I changed
it to Allow from there.

I do wish there were a way to show the Events link on my m.facebook.com site
though.

My Chrome was working with gameday audio, but now it doesn't and I give up
on getting it to work again. I can't tell is flash is allowed or not. I
may call mlb but internet explorer is working fine.

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser
By David Moore
This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome.

You can press that command right from the web site you are on.

You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming

I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu!
History, CTRL+H
So, there is a key command for reading your history.
You can read a few sites you were on right here.
I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu.
Downloads, CTRL+J
There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded with
Chrome.
Next, the important Bookmarks sub menu.
I will press right arrow, to open this.
I hear, bookmark this page, CTRL+D
That command will bookmark the page you are reading.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B
That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to
see. I do not want that.
Here is the important one.

The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser
By David Moore
This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome.
You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B
That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to
see. I do not want that.
Here is the important one.
manage bookmarks
The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks you
have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can
download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in Chrome.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to
your computer, so you can back them up.
That is all for manage bookmarks.
Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings.
press enter on this,

[JAWS-Users] JAWS Not Reading Outlook Messages

2017-07-07 Thread Nancy B . Gibson

Nancy

My settings showed up on an internet page, but you then click on Advanced
heading which will expand. Content is one of the headings you click on and
it will expand. Under Flash, my system was set to Ask First, but I changed
it to Allow from there.

I do wish there were a way to show the Events link on my m.facebook.com site
though.

My Chrome was working with gameday audio, but now it doesn't and I give up
on getting it to work again. I can't tell is flash is allowed or not. I
may call mlb but internet explorer is working fine.

The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to
maximise the window. Chrome often opens with the window not maximise,
and you will get undesirable results.
I will press the Alt key.
The Chrome menu is open.
I will press insert+up arrow to hear the first option in this menu.
New Tab, CTRL+T.
You can press that command right from the web site you are on.

You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of

New incognito Window.

I will press right arrow here to see what is in this sub menu!
History, CTRL+H
So, there is a key command for reading your history.
You can read a few sites you were on right here.
I will press left arrow to close this history sub menu.
Downloads, CTRL+J
There is the command for opening your downloads you have downloaded
with Chrome.

Hi All,

Okay, I figured out what happened. In the, ifw.ini, file in the, TeraByte
Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite, folder in Program Files X86, it said:

[Options]
Accessible=1

I deleted the,

 Accessible=1

entry, & now everything is now reading correctly. It wasn't a Jaws problem
at all. After running Jaws in default mode, & the checkboxes still didn't
read correctly I figured I had better look elsewhere, & the above is what I
found.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi All,

Running Windows 7 64 bit, & Jaws 15 thru 18. For what ever reason Jaws has
stopped reading the checkboxes using the Jaws cursor when reading the backup
& compression options in the Image for Windows program. It doesn't matter
which version of Jaws, 15 thru 18, none of them read the checkboxes at all.
I do mean at all, Jaws doesn't say, checkbox, let alone whether it's checked
or not. Could anyone tell me what setting needs to be changed to get Jaws
to read the checkboxes again? All help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
much.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi there! Once in Chrome, press the Alt key to pull up your menu of
options. Ust the arrow keys until you find settings. Press enter to open
the settings page. The quickest way to find the content part is to type the
word content into the search box. Press enter on the search button or after
typing the word content. The settings related to content will then be
displayed. You can use your button navigation to locate content settings.
You should be able to find the flash settings in this section.

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to
your computer, so you can back them up.
That is all for manage bookmarks.
Next, I hear import bookmarks and settings.
press enter on this, and you can import all bookmarks and settings from IE,
and Firefox, right into Google Chrome, and they will be in their
corresponding folders.
Now, I hear all of my saved bookmarks as I continue to arrow down.
Very important!
Sometimes, when I open that bookmarks sub menu, I do not land on the choices
I mension here, but instead, I start hearing my saved bookmarks. If this
happens, I press up arrow a few times, and it gets me to these choices.
Keep in mind, that many of these choices, like bookmark manager, have key
commands, so you do not have to come to this bookmarks sub menu at all. You
only need to come here most of the time, to arrow through your saved
bookmarks, and enter on the desired one.

I was just going to bring up ninite.com If any of those out there do not
know it, it is a site where you can download or update many programs.
Ninite blocks lots of the eaxtra junk like bars and other things that you
might not want. If you go there you can click on a special page for
accessibility. You go down the list of programs and check the ones you want
and then you click on a mini tool for doing the downloads in the background.
It is a great tool.

[JAWS-Users] Checkboxes In Image for Windows

2017-07-07 Thread Mike B.

Thanks
much.
Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hi all,
I did an Updated text tutorial on using the Google Chrome browser. It is
pasted right here in this email, so you can read it, and give me feedback.
On each line, I tell you what my computer says as I take you through the
Google Chrome menu, and I take you carefully through the settings web

page.

This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, but it is easier to
navigate.
I hope this really helps you get started with Chrome, because it works so
well for me.
Here is the tutorial right below!
Tutorial for Using the Google Chrome Browser
By David Moore
This tutorial will be done with the latest update of Chrome.
I will also use JAWS 18 and NVDA 2017.2for this tutorial, because they

both

work the same in Chrome.
Finally, I will use Windows 10 Creators Update latest public build.
I will assume that you have downloaded and installed Chrome.
There should be a shortcut on your desktop.
First, I will launch Chrome. We will not create a home page until we get

to

the Chrome settings web page.
This is a lot like the Options page in Firefox, or the Options dialog in

IE.

Pressing the Alt key, opens the one and only, Chrome menu, with many

choices

that I will arrow down through.
The first very important step, is to press Windows+up arrow to maximise

the

You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.
Next down arrow, says show bookmarks bar, CTRL+Shift+B
That command, will show your bookmarks on your Chrome browser for all to
see. I do not want that.
Here is the important one.
manage bookmarks
The command is, CTRL+Shift+O
In here, you can organize your bookmarks into folders, see the bookmarks

you

have imported from different browsers, and very importantly, you can
download, to your computer, an HTML file of all of your bookmarks in

Chrome.

On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads,

and

a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved

in

Chrome. This is an awesome way to download all of your bookmarks right to
your computer,

I never had this problem, but you could try one of these tips for getting
focus into the dialog box:

   - Use JAWS KEY+F10 to open Window List, go to the name of the dialog
that will be shown as Restored, and press ENTER.
   - If you have JAWS 15 or latter, use the Touch Cursor with Advanced
Object Navigation Enabled to browse the window yerarchi. Once you find the
dialog, press DOWN ARROW to explore beneat it and, when you reach the
Username or Password edit boxes, press ENTER to simulate a tap and get the

Hope it helps!

You can press these commands right from your web page, instead of coming
here.
On your computer, you can press enter on this file, after it downloads, and
a page will show up in Chrome with a list of all bookmarks you have saved in
The next few are very self explanatory.
The next one I will mension, is the more tools submenu.
I will press right arrow

Fast startup doesn't use battery power while the machine is shut down. Instead,
it saves a hibernation file to disk.

See the article at
https://www.howtogeek.com/243901/the-pros-and-cons-of-windows-10s-fast-startup-mode/

Thus I don't think turning it off would save battery at all.

that matters

here is my previous email for the question

I’m having problems removing quick startup. the reason I do not want quick
startup is because this is a laptop or so dell says tablet if quick startup is
enabled when I turn off the machine it really still be on only in hibernation
mode and the battery will still be draining.now this is my vacation computer so
I can’t always plug it in. I need that battery for it’'s all 6 hours!
I’m not sure if I setup my computer account as an Admin how can I remove quick
startup?

I really like Chrome, but found that it does not work well in accessing some
pages like the m.facebook.com.

I am definitely going to keep your e-mail, though.

Thanks very much.
