Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group
I just wanted to mention that the email list that Tom mentioned, which had difficulties for a prolonged period of time, did not have problems with people who had Gmail accounts. However, it, too, had its own server and there were several providers, including mine, who blocked its messages as spam. The problem was solved by moving the list to io Groups. Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group
Over the years we started out on Yahoo, then moved to Google groups. Then went to Mailman and once or twice I don't even remember any more moved it again to other Mailman servers. The last time almost 9 years ago. Those last take some serious time to configure before making the change. We'll stick it out on the current server for the present time as I have a good deal going. -Original Message- From: Tom Behler Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2017 8:20 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group David: For what it's worth, I have a g-mail address, and I continue to be good on the list, at least as far as I can tell. Re: [JAWS-Users] route jaws to pc
Hi Kevin, The easy explanation, the Jaws cursor expands the page, & reads crap the PC cursor can't get to. Technical explanation below: About JAWS Cursors Navigating through Windows with JAWS is accomplished with cursors. These cursors determine the focus of JAWS speech and are often directly linked with Windows cursors. The PC Cursor - Follows Keystrokes This cursor is linked to the keyboard functions of Windows and applications. This is the cursor that is used when typing information, moving through options in dialog boxes, and selecting options or icons. As you type information, the PC Cursor follows along with each key you press. If you are making a selection in a menu or dialog box, the PC Cursor highlights the currently selected object. The PC Cursor is activated by default when JAWS starts. If you are using a different cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS returns you to the PC Cursor. *Tip, If you are using the Jaws touch cursor, pressing NUM PAD PLUS twice quickly returns you to the PC Cursor. The JAWS Cursor - Follows Mouse Pointer The JAWS Cursor is linked to mouse pointer functions in Windows and other applications. It is used to read information the PC Cursor cannot read, such as toolbar information. The mouse follows along with the JAWS Cursor when it is moved, and you therefore have access to information in an application window that is beyond the scope of the PC Cursor. To activate the JAWS Cursor, press NUM PAD MINUS. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. if you log on directly to your gmail (web mail) when the messages go into the spam folder and click on not spam then maybe it won't bounce any more because when you do this the list will be put in the gmail whight list. *** one reason gmail is marked as spam is when you put a email address in the cc or bcc field. with me it will go into the spam folder every time. -Original Message- From: Maria Campbell Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2017 4:17 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group Just earlier this week I had to reconfirm my membership on this list from bouncing. Instead of doing a restart it seems best to disable Quick Startup in the Power Options (in traditional Control Panel, not the new Power and Battery section on the Settings app), so Windows turns off your PC with a complete shutdown, in the way of Windows 7 and earlier, instead of what is actually an hibernation. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Doug Murray Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2017 7:39 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] sign in with jaws. Re: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group
Do you have SPF, DKIM and DMARC configured for the domain? They're all interrelated measures that together help to establish the authenticity of outbound messages. They're also used by the better e-mail providers and ISPs to distinguish legitimate senders from spammers. I took the time to configure them for my domain, and I haven't since had legitimate mail rejected by mail providers as far as I know. On the other hand, I'm not responsible for any high-traffic mailing lists. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of David Ferrin Sent: Thursday, July 20, 2017 6:55 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] memo for the group We have been hit in the past by email providers bouncing messages from this domain, but today ranks as the worst in our history. Hi Terry, See if the thread below helps you: Original Message From: joanne I have both Jaws 16 and 17, and I have heard people talk about labeling unlabeled links or buttons. How is this done? Thanks. Joanne From: Mauricio Molina Hello, When on the Internet, once you locate a button without a label, press JAWS / Insert Key, Control, + Tab. You will then be asked to type in a label. I hope this is what you were needing. Mauricio From: Carlos Place focus on the link or button to which you want to assign a label, press Insert+F2, and select "Custom Label" from the list. This has been in JAWS going back at least several versions. These are different features for doing similar things. The "Prompt Creator" and "Graphics Labeler" are used for labeling controls and graphics in applications. The "Custom Label" option is used for labeling HTML elements like buttons and links on webpages. Carlos Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Re: [JAWS-Users] sign in with jaws.
Hi, Not sure if this would help or not, but here is what I sdo. When booting up my windows 190 vm as that is what I am using, I wait for jas to load at the lock screen then press ctrol this brings up the pin edit box whare I type my 4 digit pin and then the system loads just fine after that. What happens if you just tap the control key? You should get promped for either your password or pin in either case you should just type in the edit box if prompted. If you have it set to use a pin, the last number in your pin will dismiss the dialog and sign you in. If you do not have a pin typing your password should do it after you press enter. HTH. Re: [JAWS-Users] Face book with jaws 17
I do a lot of things by trial and error (lots of the latter). On my business page I find a place where I can enter text and then I simply go to my MS Word doc and copy the text and then go back and paste it into the field where I want it. There are also places where you can browse for a file or image. The business pages are much harder to use than the regular FB page so I ask for sighted help as needed. If a sighted person tells me where they found a particular feature then that gives me a path for the future. It invariably seems to correlate to the use of IE 11. It is not duplicatable, but it does happen with enough consistency that there's got to be a bug somewhere in the program. When it happens, if I can get Jaws to stumble-and-bumble to the process manager, I can close IE and reload Jaws. Oftentimes, Jaws is so sluggish i.e. not quite non-responsive -- that I end up loading System Access to go and close IE11 and Jaws. Then, I can re-load Jaws and its happy. If I use a competitive screen-reader, I've not encountered these issues. Likewise, I have the latest JAWS 18 with Windows 7 and a 64 bit system. Short of rebooting the system, applying the hot key sequence I have assigned to JAWS 18 will sometimes return speech but it's all guesswork and when the hot key fails to return speech, I am forced to restart the system. Lastly, it seems to happen when tabbing away from an open web site but beyond this pattern, I remain puzzled by this annoyance.
