Re: [JAWS-Users] Temporary loss of speech

2017-11-11 Thread Audiobookfan

Opening PDF files is a completely different issue.

The problem I'm encountering is in File Explorer, but not all media.
I've only encountered the problem with SD cards in my built-in card
reader. File Explorer works as expected for my local SSD as well as my
external USB drive and my NAS drives.

Just today, I slipped an SD card into my card reader and experienced the
same problem. In fact, even arrowing to another folder caused the delay.
This makes navigating through the file structure a very slow process.

I hope someone can offer a remedy for this problem.

Thanks,
Jeff

I'm more suspicious that it's just JAWS. Ever since JAWS 17, there has
been

a "pause" effect most often occurring when opening a PDF document, and
opening Outlook. I also noticed it pausing when launching ResearchIt,
or the

JAWS find on a web page. Always around 15 to 20 seconds of silence before
speech returns. Still happens with JAWS 2018, and I'm unhappy to hear
that

it seems to also happen with your Windows 10. I'm still running Windows 7
32-bit on a Dell Latitude. This never happened with JAWS 16 or earlier.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Temporary loss of speech

I temporarily lose speech often when accessing an SD card in my built-in
card reader. Here's what happens.

When I insert my SD card into the card reader, most times I lose speech
for about 20 seconds and each time I take some action the same thing
happens. For example, I must wait about 20 seconds or so after inserting
the card before I can arrow up and down to locate a folder. Once I get
speech, I can arrow up and down fine, but as soon as I enter on a folder
name to open the folder, I lose speech again for about 20 seconds. The
same thing happens when I press the applications key to bring up the
context menu. I must wait the 20 seconds or so before I can arrow
through the menu.

I'm running JAWS 2018 on Windows 10 version 1703, although this same
problem occurred on JAWS 18 on this computer. This only happens with SD
cards and not absolutely every time, but most times. Accessing the local
SSD, external USB drives and network drives all behave as they should.

I suspect this might be an issue with some setting in Windows 10, but I
have no idea what setting or where to look for it. And perhaps it's
something altogether different. I'm open to all suggestions.

Thanks,
Jeff

[JAWS-Users] Problem filling out Google Form

2017-11-11 Thread amcarr1
Hi,

I am pleased to report that there has been significant improvements made in
creating Google Forms when using JAWS. I cannot tell you exactly why that
is, since I have moved up to Windows10, JAWS2018 and the recommended version
of FireFox.

Of course with the good comes the bad. I've successfully created the form,
and sent the link to myself. The link takes me to the form and I can fill
in the edit boxes, but cannot select any of the radial buttons, checkboxes
or the submit button. Of course, if the required questions are not
completed, the submit button should not work. I've made sure the "accept
responses" checkbox is checked.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to get this to work, I would appreciate
it.

Thanks,

Annette

Hello, everyone.

This morning, I just discovered a major problem with Outlook 2016 when
originating an e-mail.

When I start a new e-mail with control N, I can no longer type a contact
address into the "to" field. When I do this, I get kicked out of my new
e-mail, and get placed back into my inbox. In other words, Outlook seems to
crash, and then is re-started after a few seconds.

Interestingly, I can go to my contacts list, and copy and paste the e-mail
address into the to field with no problem. I can also reply to e-mails with
no problem.

Once again, the issue occurs when originating an e-mail and trying to access
someone in my contacts list.

I am using Jaws 18, Outlook 2016 with Office 365, and Windows 7 here.

Has anyone recently experienced this issue, and if so, have you found a fix?

I am eligible to upgrade to Jaws 2018, and will do so when I get the chance.

However, in the meantime, I'd like to be able to quickly originate e-mails
in the usual way if at all possible.

I think that you may be wrong saying that copying anything in Edge was
impossible. I haven't tried it but try this. Type jaws key spacebar, shift,
H to clear speech history. Then read what you wish to copy. Then press jaws
key, space bar, H to get your speech history. There it may be. Copy that and
you have it.

I was playing with Edge this morning, browsing recipes. I found one I
wanted to copy but it's not yet possible to do this either in JAWS or
Narrator. Rather than search for the recipe using IE or Chrome, I opted for
a work-around. I unloaded JAWS and pressed control a, for select all, then
pressed control c. I then opened Word and pressed control v. I then loaded
JAWS and there was the recipe, along with the rest of the web page. Smile.
I just told JAWS to find one of the words in the recipe title, and then
deleted everything above and below the recipe. It was cumbersome, but it
worked. The process was even easier when I tried the same thing using the
print button. I tabbed through until I got to cancel and there was the
recipe, stripped of everything else.

Granted, it's far easier at this point to use IE or Chrome, but if you get
annoyed or frustrated at not being able to do something technologically
that's available to others, there is sometimes a work-around.

Perhaps Microsoft will resolve this for us soon. Smile.

Smile.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Temporary loss of speech

2017-11-11 Thread Vicki W.
I have this same problem with JAWS, including JAWS 14. I notice it more when
I am using IE or my antivirus is checking for updates, as well as opening
PDF documents, which it has always done.

I'm more suspicious that it's just JAWS. Ever since JAWS 17, there has
been

a "pause" effect most often occurring when opening a PDF document, and
opening Outlook. I also noticed it pausing when launching ResearchIt, or
the

JAWS find on a web page. Always around 15 to 20 seconds of silence before
speech returns. Still happens with JAWS 2018, and I'm unhappy to hear that
it seems to also happen with your Windows 10.

Thanks,
Jeff

Hello Tom:

I use Outlook 2016 and do not have any problem addressing emails at all.
After I installed the latest update to Jaws2018 from the FS website, it now
readily reads the addressee when it autofills the field.

I use Windows 10 Fall Creator and Office 2016 is installed in my computer.

Hello, again, everyone.

I posted the below quiry a few days ago, and have not gotten any response.

I'm not sure if this is a Jaws or Microsoft issue, so thought I'd start here
to see if anyone has any thoughts or fixes.

This is a serious issue that significantly affects productivity when using
Outlook e-mail.

See below.

Subject: Outlook 2016 Address Field Issue

Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan

Paul,

Pot player is an accessible one.
Functions are accessible with the keyboard and it will play different
type of files. It is a free player.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Good replacement media player for Windows 10!

2017-11-11 Thread Fernando Gregoire
I didn't find a better alternative than Winamp: advanced, very accessible,
compatible with many file formats and, if you need, there are many plugins for
it. It's only comparable to VLC, but this last one seems harder to use with
JAWS.

Hi All,

Has anyone here a preference for media players. I am looking for something
that will replace WMP and so far have tried using ITunes and VLC but I just
didn't find what I wanted from them. I am looking for something that works
well with JAWS and on Windows 10. I also want to be able to burn audio to CD
using the software. Also the other usual things like listen to radio and
other media player stuff.

Thank you for any recommendations.

Paul.

Why do you want to replace Windows Media Player. It is available for
Windows 10.
It does everything you want, and as far as I'm aware, it is quite accessible
with Jaws.

If you have the enterprise or the European version of Windows 10, then you
need to download it, because it doesn't come standard on those versions.

Here's how you can find Windows Media Player:

Click Start > All Apps > scroll down to W and click Windows Media Player

or

Press Windows key + R

Type: wmplayer.exe

Hit Enter

Right click and pin it to your Taskbar.

Still not finding Windows Media Player?

If you are running Windows 10 N or K or KN editions, Windows Media Player is

not included. You will need to download then install the Windows Feature
Pack.

If you don't find it, press Windows key + R

Type: optionalfeatures.exe

Hit Enter

Expand Media Features

Make sure Media Player is checked.

If the option is not available:

Press Windows key + R

Type: winver

Hit Enter

Does it say Windows 10 Home N or Windows 10 Pro N anywhere on the dialog?

If it does, then you will need to download and install Windows Feature Pack:

Microsoft had updated it for the November Update, you can download from the
following link:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3099229

If you are running the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, you can download the
latest version from the following link:
