Re: [JAWS-Users] Desktop Shortcuts With Firefox

2018-05-15 Thread Cristóbal
I actually looked up something similar regarding how to put a webpage link
on the windows taskbar with Firefox. From what I remember, it was somewhat
straight forward with Chrome, but Firefox required some additional steps and
command prompt this and tweek that. This is with Windows 10 by the way.
Anyway, I got busy with other stuff and sort of left that task linger and I
almost forgot that I wanted to do that until I came across this thread. So
yeah, Anyone got any ideas?

Hi, Mike.

I also have Windows 7. This should work.

Press the Windows key and arrow up once to "all Programs."
Press enter, then when a list appears press the up arrow key once.
Then press f until Firefox appears.
On hearing Firefox verbalized, press the applications key.
Arrow up to "send to submenu," press enter again.
Then press the down arrow key until you hear "Desktop" and press enter yet
again.

Hi Adrian,

I'm sorry, but I failed to mention that I run the portable version of
Firefox ESR 52.8, and this doesn't appear in Start menu/ All Programs.
There's a way of creating a desktop shortcut with the version I'm running,
but it requires creating a new shortcut through the context menu with
nothing selected on the desktop. I'm definitely going to save these steps
in case I have to install Firefox to get the desired workability

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws on a Tablet

2018-05-15 Thread ratshtron
not sure if jaws will run on a tablet. most
tablets are either android or some may have a
version of windows specific to that tablet and it
may be posible to install jaws on something like
that. the android tablets can have a program
(app) installed or already is installed for
speech output called talkback. works quite well.
the only thing about android devices is that the
os is specific to each device and sometimes
updates are hard to come by. android oreo is the
latest release but android p is coming out soon.

Hi Gang. Using latest dot version of JAWS2018, google chrome browser, Windows

What are keystrokes when chrome is open, to quickly open up my book marks and

nothing for me. I need to hit alt F and then arrow up/down to land on the
bookmarks submenu and then more arrow key presses to home in through my
bookmark folders and get to the one I want.

Caution: If installing JAWS 15 or older when JAWS 16 or newer already
installed, will result in some problems. Usually requires removing the new
versions, install the old one, and then reinstall the new ones. There was a
significant shift in the paradigm of how JAWS interacts, around the time of
JAWS 16 inception. Consult with Freedom Scientific.

2018-05-15 Thread Mary jo
I am new to this list so may be asking an inappropriate question.
Please let me know.  I am currently running Jaws 18 on my desktop PC.  I
want to transition to a tablet and want to know what tablets on the
market support Jaws.  Also can I install my current version of Jaws or
do I need to purchase something different.  Thank you.  Mary Jo Seiler

Okay, I'm going crazy with jaws not keeping up with typing in outlook 2007.
I've got win 7 and am using jaws 18 with the latest update.

I only have jaws 18 on this laptop. Can I install jaws 17? Would I have to
uninstall 18 and then install 17? I seem to remember something about not
being able to install old versions of jaws if a new version is on the
computer. Thanks, Karen

[JAWS-Users] read alternate text using Jaws

2018-05-15 Thread Dang Manh Cuong
To all listers
When using Jaws to read word document that included picture with alternate
text, can blind people read the alternate text without turning navigation quick
keys on? I tried pressing up arrow to read line by line, and when focus move to
the inserted picture, Jaws didn't read that text. I want to read it so please
help me.
Appreciated your help

Re: [JAWS-Users] Multiple JAWS versions

2018-05-15 Thread jyandt.martin

Yes. I could not get the assessment site to verify my jaws.

The whole story is, I was selected for a job position as a braille
transcriber. But before the interview can happen, I need to take 3
evaluation tests for typing, excel, and Word. So after clicking the box
indicating I use a screen reader, the site needed to verify my software.
Unfortunately, the verification gets interrupted due to a conflict. The
assessment site is overseen by IBM, and I contacted them yesterday. They
informed me that the site was not compatible with JAWS 2018, and to go back
to a recent version. So, after initializing version 17, the same thing
happened.

So, that is it in a nutshell. Thanks.

Hi Jerry,

What didn't work? You couldn't verify / authorize Jaws with FS, or you
couldn't get the job assessment program to verify your Jaws as the the Jaws
17 they want to be used?

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Thanks for all of the suggestions/instructions. I finally got version 17 to
work. However, it still did not solve my initial problem, as I attempted to
do the software verification for the job interview software assessment, and
it still would not work. Oh, well. no j o b for me, I guess. Thanks again to
everyone who chimed in.

I wonder if there's a semantics issue here. To uninstall is to completely
remove the program from the computer. to unload is to temporarily disable a
program until you're ready to bring it back. So yes, you do need to unload
JAWS 18 before loading JAWS 17.

hello;
you said;
I have 17 in my downloads folder, as well as in the programs page of control
panel.
if this is the case, most likely you already have the jaws17 installed.
what you need to do is to create a shortcut to start the version 17.
give this a try;

1, unload the current version of jaws your running.
2, type: windows-key+r=run,
3, type: jaws17 press enter.
this should load jaws 17.
if this is true, now you can create shortcut for this version, example,
alt+ctrl+7.

Afternoon all.

I need to take an assessment test for a possible job interview. The end
result of the software states that I need to use JAWS 17, not 2018. I have
17 in my downloads folder, as well as in the programs page of control panel.
I need to find out how I would go about re-installing version 17 on my Dell
laptop, with Windows 10, while using version 2018 for the process, if it is
possible. Thanks in advance.
