Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Hi Mike, I'm glad this worked for you. It would be nice to know the exact Registry key created or modified by this policy, to make this change on Windows 10 Home Edition, which unlike more advanced ones, does not have the Group Policy Editor. Unfortunately I have no idea on which key is affected. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Mike B. If I go to "your kindle content" or "manage content and devices", I can trace the purchased title, but buttons such as deliver, delete etc, as well as select, seem entirely inactive when using jaws and they seem checked to the effect they are not available, while the select does not even appear as a button. Only if I press "select all" these buttons except for the individual select, become usable, however the only choice is "deliver all", which again, when pressed does not appear to do the job. Jaws simply says "deliver all link button". My computer tech in Athens, who saw kindle through team viewer, believes there is a problem of accessibility, but before accepting this, I thought of asking if anyone among our group knows something more, has found a solution, or can simply inform me definitively that I am trying to do something which has an accessibility issue. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Not sure what version of Jaws you're running, but using Windows 10, version 1709 and the latest version of Jaws 2018, I always get the announcement the drive is safe to remove. Not sure if verbosity settings would affect receiving this message, but my computer is over 12 years old, and if I'm still getting the safe to remove message, with my verbosity levels set to medium, then everyone else's should be getting it too, but again, I don't know what's it's like for advanced verbosity users, so take what i said with a grain of salt. It could also be that you're interrupting speech before you can hear the message, because, as I said, I always get it, without fail. Another friend called me yesterday with the same issue. I just assume that it's safe. If I go back to the system tray before removing the drive, the option to remove it shows as unavailable, as it should. I don't know how to capture or replay those fleeting messages with JAWS. If I virtualize the window, JAWS says there's no text. I haven't had a sighted person look at the screen. I can use the context menu on the drive, but again, I get no spoken message. On another matter, has anyone else seen multiple copies of JAWS shown in the system tray after JAWS was shut down and restarted? Shouldn't JAWS be removed if it's shut down. This happens with both insert-f4 and insert-windows-f4. Sometimes my save as menu won't work in Word. If I shut JAWS down and bring it back, the menu reads as it should. I much prefer running JAWS from the system tray, so that it won't be in the alt-tab line up. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, and maybe a lot of us, about disappeared messages. Smile. But, let's say you have 3 external drives running and their drive letters are L, M, & N. You want to remove drive M, you open the Safely Remove from the system tray, choose driveM, and press enter. I knew I had a note about this somewhere because this also happens in Widows 7, and this is how I fixed it: 1. Windows key + I, to open Settings, Navigate to Personalization, and press enter. 2. Go to, Taskbar, press enter, tab to, Notification Area, Select which icons appear on the taskbar Link, and press enter. 3. Tab to, Windows host process (Rundll32) Button, press the spacebar to check this option, and you should now hear Jaws report it's safe to remove after pressing enter on a drive from the Safely Remove Hardware icon. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Hi Adrian, Like you I want the extra confirmation, but although Jaws doesn't report the message consistently any more the removal process is being completed. When the removal process is completed the Safely Remove icon disappears from the system tray unless you have more than 1 external drive running which I'm prone to do. But, let's say you have 3 external drives running and their drive letters are L, M, & N. You want to remove drive M, you open the Safely Remove from the system tray, choose driveM, and press enter. Now, Jaws doesn't report the drive is safe to remove, but if you look in, Computer, driveM won't be showing which means it's safe to remove. If you're only running 1 external drive, after you choose it from the Safely Remove icon, and Jaws doesn't report it to be safe to remove, look in, Computer, and if you don't see it in the drive list it's safe to remove. Before going to the system tray, do you close the window displaying that drive's contents? Then does the confirmation show up in the system tray? A related point: My tech consultant says that removing an item, such as an SD card, can be done safely so long as the window is closed. He'd say, then, that even if you aren't getting that reassuring confirmation, you'll be okay. Even so, I admit I take the extra precaution of getting system tray confirmation. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Mike B. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
I have the same configuration as Rebecca. This week I had a similar issue with a 16gb SD card. I heard a message about damage but it always disappeared before I could get to it It still worked in my Victor Stream but when I put it back in the reader I received the same damage message and could not access it to tell Windows to fix it. This time I went to This Computer and entered on the drive letter and it showed NO files & I knew I had 2 books on there. Finally, today, in frustration, I went by & picked up another SD card and it works fine for now, transferred 2 new biographies onto it and they are reading fine. I am going to try to choose the format option on the old SD card and see if I get the card back and can use it for a backup. George A. [JAWS-Users] New NoScript add-on layout with Firefox 60
Hello list, So, Ive been playing with Firefox 60 and the latest JFW 2018put out this month. And Im noticing that with the NoScript extension, now instead of the various options to disable or enable the different scripts and whatnot on pages, NoScript now presents you with a webpage with checkboxes instead of the context menu where you can arrow into the submenu with the different listed scripts. Im finding the new layout to be more tedious and not as easy to get around and was wondering if there was a way to get the old context submenu layout back or if this is how it is now? I poked around in the NoScript options and didnt find anything that jumped out to get the old layout back. Re: [JAWS-Users] How can I find out what # a certain e-mail is in my list
Al, I'm confident there isn't such a keystroke, which would be very useful. With Outlook, including 2010, you're not even told what number email you're at as you go down the list, a feature Outlook Express had, or has. That's my only regret about giving up OE. However, your mention of a word search makes me wonder which type of search you're doing. If you just type a word into the initial search field, you're searching only subject lines. The way I search for all words, whether in the subject line or the message field, is the following: Control-shift-f to commence the search. Tab once Down arrow once Shift-tab once. Now type your search term, then press enter. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Al Sorrentino Sent: Saturday, May 26, 2018 3:40 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] How can I find out what # a certain e-mail is in my list Hi everyone, I am using Outlook 2010 Windows 7 and JAWS 13 In my Outlook inbox I have about 650 e-mails that have already been read. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Mike, just a thought. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message, Possible Fix
Hi Again All, Okay, by doing the following Jaws will report the safe to remove message, although not consistently. Please let me know if the steps work for anyone else. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws2018 and libre office or open office?
HI. It will work well with Apache Openoffice. LibreOffice is a more regularly updated suite, but I understand it has some accessibility issues; the developers seem much more interested in working with NVDA than with JAWS from what I can tell. I have recently used Openoffice Writer, at least, with JAWS, and am pretty happy with it. I believe the database and spreadsheet software also work ok, although I haven't gone that far into them. Whether you want to use Google Office probably depends on whether you enjoy the functionality of the "live office" type scenario. I myself much prefer not having to rely on the Internet and browsers for such things, but if you feel that's the way of the future, give it a try and see how you like it. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Josh Kennedy Sent: May 25, 2018 5:47 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] jaws2018 and libre office or open office? Hi. I haven't played with it too much because winamp is still working great on my Windows 10 machine. However, you should know that with Foobar, you have to set up your own keyboard commands. It's meant to be a bare bones, eminently customisable interface. Not for everyone but probably worthwhile if you want to put some extra time into setting it up. [JAWS-Users] downloading kindle books to the pc library through kindle pc and jaws
Hi all, As I am trying to explore kindle a bit further, using kindle for pc as opposed to other forms, I find it impossible to get a fresh purchase, which appears on my kindle library, be delivered to the pc itself.
