Yes I know that .also look at the hp envy and spectur line up for those are reasonably priced ones with good performance.i have a few aroudn the house. Also have a MSI gaming laptop but that one will be around or more then the thinkpad. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Valiant8086 Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2018 7:40 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] recommendations on replacement Toshiba or dell notebook Hi. If you're doing something a little arduous the life can drop quite a bit, 5 hours while coppying 60 gb across my network for instance. But, this is a pretty involved computer purchase, I customized it on Lenovo's website and ordered it directly. There are parts of the Lenovo website that are pretty hard to use. That said, you can get some of these on Amazon. I'm kind of thinking I would recommend a think pad, now that I know what I do about the customizability of the keyboard function keys and how to change them into function keys and the like. You can change the function buttons to be function buttons by default, without the fn key, and you can swap ctrl and FN to get control to be on the bottom left like other windows computers do, without needing the bios, although you can do it in the bios too. Lenovo Flex 4 seems like a nice system. I've seen a couple of them. May want to avoid Lenovo Yoga 920, Yoga 720, they scrapped the context menu applications key for some strange reason. Re: [JAWS-Users] Windows Updates Inquiry
Howdy Jerry, Do you have Fast Start enabled? If this is enabled then when you shut your computer down it doesn't really shut down, but it goes into a hibernated state that allows the computer to wake-up & install updates, run security scans, & whatever the Widows 10 system is supposed to do in this state. These tasks are all scheduled and designed to do their thing when your computer is not being used. But, if Fast Start is disabled it can't do these scheduled tasks. So, in your case if Fast Start is not turned on in can't wake-up to install the updates and you would have to do them manually. If you have Fast Start enabled and the updates aren't being installed there might be an error code message somewhere which explains why. if you do a search using the error code number as your search criteria. Re: [JAWS-Users] recommendations on replacement Toshiba or dell notebook
Hi. The keyboard is reasonably sturdy on the xps13 9370. It lacks a context key like most dell computers, but fortunately, fn+right alt or perhaps fn+right control work to do that. The downer is the xps13 9370 doesn't have any type A USB ports. It comes with one adapter to use in your type C USB port to be able to connect type A devices but, that's the main thing that kept me away aside from the wave max audio terrors I've already been fighting with on other dell systems. And I checked it on the xps13 in the store by the way, it still uses too much processor even on that bad ass computer. The xps13 2 in 1 is a fanless laptop using the core i7 7y77 or 74 can't remember which processor, super duper low voltage, 8 wats I believe. It's fanless, and the screen folds all the way back, just like Lenovo's yoga's and dell's inspiron 13 2 in 1's do. It also has a nice rubbery texture on the top that would make it extra nice to use, but it's slippery aluminum on the underneith just like mac books, that's a negative. The performance on that system is decent. I played with it enough to gather than it would run reasonably well for things I would do with a computer. I read on notebookcheck though that it does get hot all over, being fanless as it is. I believe you can't really buy Toshiba computers in store anymore, mostly just online. If I go to "your kindle content" or "manage content and devices", I can trace the purchased title, but buttons such as deliver, delete etc, as well as select, seem entirely inactive when using jaws and they seem checked to the effect they are not available, while the select does not even appear as a button. Only if I press "select all" these buttons except for the individual select, become usable, however the only choice is "deliver all", which again, when pressed does not appear to do the job. Jaws simply says "deliver all link button". My computer tech in Athens, who saw kindle through team viewer, believes there is a problem of accessibility, but before accepting this, I thought of asking if anyone among our group knows something more, has found a solution, or can simply inform me definitively that I am trying to do something which has an accessibility issue. I'm having the same problem, reading messages formatted as tables. If I start at the top and press the jaws key and numpad 2, usually Jaws will read everything, but not always. [JAWS-Users] Another Excel 13 Inquiry
Afternoon all. Using JAWS 2018 and Windows 10 on a Dell laptop, I was wanting to know something regarding Excel 13. I know that, when in Excel 13, if you place your cursor in a cell directly below a series of cells with numeric data, you can press the ALT and Equals keys to get the sum of those cells; after confirming the cell information. Now, here is the question. Can anyone tell me of a similar operation/keyboard commands for performing multiplication, division and subtraction? I am looking for a shorter way to perform these operations than the ones utilizing the slash, asterisk and dash symbols. Thanks in advance. Jerry “Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safely Remove Hardware, Followup
I copied the quote from a Microsoft page that had nothing to do with JAWS. The sighted person said the text message did not appear at all.--" There is just a quick blink on the Taskbar". Presumably if the text is not there, JAWS can not read it. Smile. The person answering had no suggestions for correcting this in Windows 10 home edition, , nor any idea as to what had changed. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of joseph.lee22...@gmail.com Sent: Sunday, May 27, 2018 12:26 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Safely Remove Hardware, Followup Hi, There is an active discussion on Win10 (groups.io) forum where people wrote about various avenues it may occur. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message
Whoa, Fernando, this is great. Cheers and thanks for posting this. Thankfully I have Group Policy Editor on my machine and have used it to make some good tweaks before. Think I'll give this a go since I don't really like the "toast" notifications either. Who comes up with these silly names, anyway? Lol -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of Fernando Gregoire Sent: May 26, 2018 9:05 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message Hi Mike and all, If the confirmation message appears on the screen but JAWS is not saying it, perhaps it's helpful to know that in Windows 10 balloons was replaced with toasts, which like notifications in the Action Center are handled by the ShellExperienceHost process, too unstable like most UWP apps and areas, unfortunately increasing. JAWS 17 and newer have a verbosity setting concerning Windows 10 notifications, but it is not as accurate as balloon reading, which was being developed since Windows XP. If you have Windows 10 Pro, there's a group policy which allow to use balloons instead of new toast notifications. Press WINDOWS+R, type the following and then press ENTER: gpedit.msc In the three view go to User Configuration, Administrative Templates, Start Menu and Taskbar. When you reach Start Menu and Taskbar, tab to the list view. In the list view, find the following policy: Disable showing balloon notifications as toasts Press ENTER to open properties of this policy, tab to the group of radio buttons and change from Not Configured to Enabled, and press OK or ENTER. When finished, restart the computer for this change to take effect. By the way, File Explorer and other system and third-party apps which previously shown balloons will do that exactly as in prior Windows versions, including JAWS ability to simulate a left mouse click. Hope it helps! -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-ListOn Behalf Of Mike B. [JAWS-Users] correction-RE: How can I find out what # a certain e-mail is in my list
List, one correction. When you shift tab to the list of mail folders with the shift tab, what is reported is the number of unread messages. With Outlook, including 2010, you're not even told what number email you're at as you go down the list, a feature Outlook Express had, or has. That's my only regret about giving up OE. However, your mention of a word search makes me wonder which type of search you're doing. If you just type a word into the initial search field, you're searching only subject lines. The way I search for all words, whether in the subject line or the message field, is the following: Control-shift-f to commence the search. Tab once Down arrow once Shift-tab once. Hi Kelly/all, It simply says "syncing" for just a few seconds, but it seems only to work towards getting the last page read on a book. It does not download the new content for some reason.
