Hi Cher,

Thanks for the update. Are you using JAWS 18 or 2018? I was still seeing
this behavior as late as last week, but I have been switching between 18 and
2018 and now can't remember which one I was in when it crashed.

Thanks again.

Follow-up for Pam-

With the latest IE11 and the May update for JFW, I can now maximize the
window without IE crashing. When we had this conversation a few months ago,
IE was crashing when I tried to maximize at least frequently, and possibly
always.

Cher,

Are you running ZoomText by any chance?

I have narrowed this down to appearing to be a ZoomText issue. If I close
ZoomText, I can maximize or minimize windows in IE 11 without any issues.

I have noticed issues with maximizing the window if I am in IE 11 also. For

I am running JAWS 18 and ZoomText 11 on Windows 7.

Howdy Jerry,

Here you go:
How do I enable or disable fast startup?

Fast startup is a feature in Windows that helps your computer start faster.
You can use the following steps to enable or disable fast startup.
1. Type Control Panel in the search box.
2. Click Control Panel.
3. Click Power Options.
4. Click Choose what the power buttons do.
5. Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
6. Tab down to Shutdown settings and uncheck Turn on fast startup.
7. Click Save changes.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Do you have Fast Start enabled? If this is enabled then when you shut your

scans, & whatever the Widows 10 system is supposed to do in this state.
These tasks are all scheduled and designed to do their thing when your

If you have Fast Start enabled and the updates aren't being installed there
might be an error code message somewhere which explains why. if you do a
search using the error code number as your search criteria.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Hot Key

2018-05-28 Thread Orlando Enrique Fiol

Hola Cristbal.

First, let me clarify that by a hotkey, you mean a shortcut key to
run Jaws. You lose the shortcut key after each update because Jaws
recreates the actual shortcut in Program Data and you must redefine
the shortcut key. Most Windows programs install this way, unless they
examine the current shortcut file or allow the user to keep it as is.

Hi Geoff & Cristóbal,

You can try assigning the shortcut keystroke from a different Jaws icon, and
I believe it will solve your disappearing keystroke problem. I assign my
pin to Taskbar shortcut from this Jaws icon and never have to mess with it
after a Jaws build update. Try the following:
1. Open the Start menu, navigate to the Programs folder and open it.
2. Use first letter navigation to the version of Jaws you want to assign the
shortcut keystroke to. Press the letter, J, until you reach JAWS2018, for
example.
3. With the preferred version of JAWS highlighted Press enter or right arrow
to open, up or down arrow to, JAWS, and this is the icon that you want to
use for creating the shortcut keystroke.
4. So, with the JAWS icon highlighted press, Alt + Enter, to open the JAWS
properties, or press the applications key or Shift + F10 to open the context
menu, and press enter on properties.
5. Assign your keystroke, tab to, Apply, press the spacebar, tab to, Okay,
and press Enter.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Hot Key

2018-05-28 Thread JM Casey
I don't think so, no. Between full version numbers this makes sense, as they
are supposed to be able to exist simultaneously on the system and thus the
versions have different path/filenames, etc. But I also don't really see why
a hotkey shouldn't be retained after a cumulative update to a version.

I think the NVDA hotkey works quite differently; it seems to be part of
NVDA's instalation whereas with JAWS it's entirely up to you whether you
want one or not. It's a Windows thing.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Hot Key

Hello.

I have a question about Jaws and setting up a hot key. Is there a way I can
set up a Jaws hot key and not lose it every time Jaws updates to a new
version? NVDA for example never loses its hotkey. Jaws should be the same.

Thanks.

Ok. I went to the downloads page, and the meetings client, then to the
manual download button. The other downloads for PC are plug-ins for various
programmes like outlook and IBM Notes, etc.

What choices are you referring to? I installed it sometime last year so the
memory is a bit foggy, but I recall it being pretty straightforward. Lot
easier to deal with than Skype, in fact.

You can do this with zoom. The only issue I really have is that the chat box
won't automatically speak text input by the other person. But you can also
chat via audio. There are keyboard commands for everything. Go to
http://www.zoom.us and download the client.

Yes I do Kelly. It must have something to do with settings and amazon
account I believe, though, my computer tech as a sighted person, was able to
download all four books I had bought. I bought another one to try things
thereafter, but with no success from my part.
Thanks for your writing to me,

Are you using the Sync button from the library, that is the full
listofKindle books, not within any one book?

Hi Kelly/all,
It simply says "syncing" for just a few seconds, but it seems only to work
towards getting the last page read on a book. It does not download the new
content for some reason.
Take care,

Subject: [JAWS-Users] downloading kindle books to the pc library through
kindle pc and jaws

Hi all,

As I am trying to explore kindle a bit further, using kindle for pc as
opposed to other forms, I find it impossible to get a fresh purchase, which
appears on my kindle library, be delivered to the pc itself. If I go to
"your kindle content" or "manage content and devices", I can trace the
purchased title, but buttons such as deliver, delete etc, as well as select,
seem entirely inactive when using jaws and they seem checked to the effect
they are not available, while the select does not even appear as a button.
Only if I press "select all" these buttons except for the individual select,
become usable, however the only choice is "deliver all", which again, when
pressed does not appear to do the job. Jaws simply says "deliver all link
button". My computer tech in Athens, who saw kindle through team viewer,
believes there is a problem of accessibility, but before accepting this, I
thought of asking if anyone among our group knows something more, has found
a solution, or can simply inform me definitively that I am trying to do
something which has an accessibility issue.

Kindest regards
and thanks,

Takis
