Re: [JAWS-Users] Spell Check in MS Word 2016
This is good news because the earlier versions of Spell Check in 2016 did not work that way. They went bac to F7 andtabbing and that should be good news. I'll have to check it out. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws Error;
Hi David, On May 17, using JAWS 2018, I encountered the " unable to complete repair, repair failed." Message. I contacted FS Support who asked me to send them the JAWS log files. I sent them to FS on May 17th. The support person told me that the problem was to be sent to their escalations team for resolution. I haven't heard a thing from them since. I would suggest you contact FS Support and see if you get any further than I did. Re: [JAWS-Users] Safe To Remove Hardware Message, Possible Fix
Hi Sharon, Well, I went to check my Windows 10computer, and I don't have that showing any more either! LOL Beats the heck out of me where it went, but below are the steps I used to make Jaws report the safe to remove message. I know the steps below work in Windows 10 Pro, but I don't know if they'll work in other versions of Windows 10. Thanks again to, Fernando, for the steps below: From: Fernando Gregoire Hi Mike and all, If the confirmation message appears on the screen but JAWS is not saying it, perhaps it's helpful to know that in Windows 10 balloons was replaced with toasts, which like notifications in the Action Center are handled by the ShellExperienceHost process, too unstable like most UWP apps and areas, unfortunately increasing. JAWS 17 and newer have a verbosity setting concerning Windows 10 notifications, but it is not as accurate as balloon reading, which was being developed since Windows XP. If you have Windows 10 Pro, there's a group policy which allows to use balloons instead of new toast notifications. Try the steps below: 1. Press WINDOWS+R, type the following and then press ENTER: gpedit.msc 2. In the Tree view arrow down to, User Configuration, right arrow to open, down arrow to, Administrative Templates, right arrow to open, down arrow to, Start Menu and Taskbar. 3. When you reach Start Menu and Taskbar, tab to the list view. In the list view, find the following policy: Disable showing balloon notifications as toasts 4. Press ENTER to open the properties of this policy, tab to the group of radio buttons and change from, Not Configured, to, Enabled, tab to, Okay, and press enter. 5. When finished, restart the computer for this change to take effect. By the way, File Explorer and other system and third-party apps which previously shown balloons will do that exactly as in prior Windows versions, including JAWS ability to simulate a left mouse click. Hope it helps! Re: [JAWS-Users] Spell Check in MS Word 2016
Annette, As in previous versions, JAWS key+c still reads the spell-checked word in context when you're in Word 2016. However, when in an Outlook 2016 email, it doesn't. In that case, the "say line" command works. I'm having no problem getting spell-check to accept "c" on my system, and I'm not experiencing any delays involving JAWS and spell-checker. I have Windows 7, latest release of JAWS 2018 and, again, Office 2016. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of amca...@verizon.net Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2018 7:30 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Spell Check in MS Word 2016 Spell check in Word is a bit tempormental. I then resort to Tabbing to the button I want and pressing Enter. Sometimes this does not work as there is a significant delay in getting a response to executing a command. MS Word 2016 calls the alt key in this context an "accelerator." Second, you can stop Word from making corrections as you type. Press alt-f, then t, then arrow down to "proofing." Re: [JAWS-Users] Not talking when highlighting words
I've experienced this problem inconsistently. You can have JAWS verbalize selected text by pressing shit+JAWS key+numpad 2. Not ideal, since selected text should be spoken immediately, but an option. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List On Behalf Of Sharon S Sent: Tuesday, June 05, 2018 6:21 AM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: [JAWS-Users] Not talking when highlighting words Hi all, I am running windows 10 and the latest version of Jaws 2018. Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws delay
I've had a number of issues with the responsiveness of JAWS on my Dell. A technician updated the RealTech driver to the latest, and it did not fix all of the problems. We resorted to changing to the generic sound card driver and there were significant improvements. However in the past 2 weeks after there was some type of update, I'm having all sorts of problems with JAWS being clipped, the volume jumping all over the place, and little crackling noises. I just have not had the time to get someone to check out the sound card driver situation. I knew I had a note about this somewhere because this also happens in Widows 7, and this is how I fixed it: 1. Windows key + I, to open Settings, Navigate to Personalization, and press enter. 2. Go to, Taskbar, press enter, tab to, Notification Area, Select which icons appear on the taskbar Link, and press enter. 3. Tab to, Windows host process (Rundll32) Button, press the spacebar to check this option, and you should now hear Jaws report it's safe to remove after pressing enter on a drive from the Safely Remove Hardware icon. Please let me know if the steps work for anyone else. Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers! Sent from my iBarstool. Arguing with a woman is like reading a software license agreement. Yes, that is a toggle to turn on the function keys for special functions e.g. on mine, f2 and f3 adjust the volume if you press them once. After FN+Escape, they take back on their standard F2 and F3 operating system or application functionality. -Original Message- From: JAWS-Users-List [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com] On Behalf Of lawdog...@comcast.net Sent: 04 June 2018 06:06 To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS Key + F12 Wow!
