Years ago MS Office was starting when I started my computer, and that slowed things down a lot till the start-up business was done. It sounds like a good lap top. So here are some more things to try. 1. Run a complete virus scan. 2. Run scandisk, setting windows to repair bad segments. 3. . Run disk defragmenter. 4. Next, the only JFW scripts for 5.65 and above that I've found are Goldwave scripts version 1.61 by Jim Grimsby Jr. for Goldwave versions 5.65 and higher. But my problem with these scripts are that even if I put all the many many files included in the zip download at the correct ENU folder, they seem to do noting nor do I find any instructions file telling me the key strokes attached to this set of GW scripts. An older version of some GW scripts for GW 5.58 used to implement alt shift T and alt shift E for checking total and elapsed times respectively. Hitting the same key strokes with GW 5.65 doesn't do that at all instead opens up some menu items. Outlook 2010 menus are very screen driven. In order to move an e-mail message with control-shift v, you have to be in the mailbox, not the message. New folders are under the inbox. Re: [JAWS-Users] Fw: Saving pdf document?
Instead of opening it, try going to the applications menu and selecting 'save target as'? this will download the file. then you can use save-as-text if you want to change it to text. That will destroy the formatting, but make it easy to read. For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

Re: [JAWS-Users] Can't read Word docs in 2003
I'm trying to remember my check list for Word docs that didn't read. I'm guessing you have tried everything on the list, but just in case ... 1. Is the application maximized? 2. Is the document maximized? 3. Is the zoom set to 75% or thereabouts? 4. is the font a reasonable size? 5. Is the font something JAWS can read easily? 6. What does the status line say? 67 If you select-all, copy, paste the document into either Wordpad, Notepad, or into Word, can you then read it? One of my students had a document we couldn't read. So we pasted it into a fresh Word doc and it showed up nice as you please. Of course, doing this for every stinkin' document would be a lrge pain. Good luck! Re: [JAWS-Users] what, and how, does JAWS define as a section on a Web page?
That has been true for a long time. Working your way through the Surf's Up exercises, once you have a #3 heading, it stops searching if you hit a #2 heading. I just use 'h' because that makes me crabby. At 03:12 PM 1/29/2012, you wrote: Hi, I hope somebody understands the following, as it came up on another list. The 5 key (or any of the other numbered kieys 1 through 6) only navigates within a section. using JAWS13, there does not appear to be a 'section' key. (I know about the division key; but can that be it? the divisions can be too small to be of use in large Web page navigation.) I tried this and found that it does indeed work. However, doing this also includes all the routing and tagging info at the beginning and end of the content. If the email was composed in html then you'll have to search for the first line beginning with a symbol to find the beginning of the actual content. I removed the routing and tagging info and renamed it as .html and was able to view the email content in a browser. This enabled me to also use header and table and other navigation methods. If you really want the content in a .txt file you could view it in a browser and copy it from their to a .txt file. I do not have any saved emails in text format so I do not know what you see after renaming to a .txt file. To make the renaming easier for large numbers of files you could do the following: open a command prompt. issue a cd command to the folder holding the .eml files. issue a rename *.eml *.txt(or htm). This will rename all the .eml files in the current folder. I hope this helps you out. -Original Message- From: Miriam Vieni Sent: Friday, January 13, 2012 12:12 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] .EML to Text Converter I only know how to do them one at a time. Re: [JAWS-Users] How to work with the Notification Bar in Windows 7 IE 9?
Press the letter s. Then control-j lets you look at the download as it progresses. With BookShare books, the download is so fast I sometimes miss it. Then the Notification Bar comes up and tells me to use Alt + N, which I do, but nothing I then do, let's me activate the Save button! Does anyone have a tip for me? I would be so grateful! Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws in System-Tray
I haven't a clue why it doesn't display. My student's computer doesn't display it either. But we can get to it with insert-j. [JAWS-Users] Reading rows and columns in Excel 2010 with JAWS 13
I have used the JAWS read row--currently insert-shift'r'--and read column--currently insert-shift-c--successfully forever. No matter how long the row/column nor how many blank cells in between, every cell in the row or column was listed. In JAWS 13 it appears that when there is a b lank cell in a row or column, listing of sells stops. I did maximize the screen, justin case, but that didn't solve the problem. Listing all cells with data reached everything, even cells not visible on the screen. But read row and read column get confused when they include blank cells. Am I missing something thanks, Ann For answers to frequently asked questions about this list visit: http://www.jaws-users.com/help/

OK, in the past I have had few problems with Jaws betas or full versions but Jaws 13 is causing me problems. 1. When I press control Backspace or control Delete I hear blank instead of the word being deleted in Word and Outlook. Annoying to me at least. 2. 2 I have had more computer lockups with the last couple of 13 updates, the beta worked just fine or at least the first one did but since then it seems I have to totally restart the system a lot more than I did in the past. 3. I had never had the problems of iTunes freezing up in previous versions but in the last two updates it happens a lot. 4. When I try to enter settings and key labels so I can silence the spacebar it throws me back out instead of letting me see the list of labels, odd thing is it worked a few days ago but now it does not. I have been using Jaws since 1998 so I don't think it is my lack of knowledge.
