[JAWS-Users] Skype Incoming Ringer Muting JAWS

2017-12-18 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi All

I've started using the Skype Universal Windows App and have found the JAWS
is muted by the incoming ringer when ever I get a call and I'm unable to
answer it. I've tried going into my sound settings and telling windows to
do nothing under the communications settings but still that hasn't helped.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

Debbie

Hi

That is almost the same issue I have. I have a desktop with an external
monitor and when I use the command to activate the screen shade feature,
JAWS reports that it is on but it isn't working at all.

Just for the heck of it, I have tried to activate and deactivate the screen
shade feature using Jaws 2018 under the latest build of Windows 10 pro on my
desktop computer. However, when I press the spacebar/insert/print screen
key combination, I either hear a rapid puttering sound, or I hear the sound
associated with the feature being triggered, but Jaws doesn't indicate
whether or not if the feature is on or off. I could have sworn I heard the
on or off announcement during Jonathan Mosen's podcast.Am I missing
something? Well, perhaps, but that's another story. Grin.

Deb, Outlook 2010 is accressible out of the box. Perhaps you need to do a
JAWS repair. Go back to run the JAWS set up file. Activate the set up file.
After it configures your system for JAWS, with the ticks, there should be a
little menu of three items. One of them is Repair. That will restore the
JAWS to whatever version you use to do the repair.

And, yes, I run Outlook on both release 12 and 13. Good luck.

 Hi,

This is for Internet Explorer 7.

 Go to www.facebook.com

Press Enter on the link which says, Open Chat

A new window will open. You can now choose the person you wish to talk to.
After finding that person, press Enter on that name.
On top of the page, arrow down till you hear, View Profile.
Below it, there should be an Edit box where you can type the message.
This box is like the history window for Windows Live Messenger.
If you hear your name followed by the time stamp spoken then by the
message, you have sent that message. If your friend responds, you
 should hear a Pop sound.

  Hope this method works.

 Justin,

The information below may seem tedious but it becomes more natural the

NOTE: I had to upgrade to I.E. 8 in order to get my chat working again.
Ok here it goes. 1.) go to facebook.com. 2.) move down the page to where
JAWS says Chat and the number of people on will read after it says chat.
 3.)
Route to Jaws cursor by pressing jaws key + the minus key on the number
 pad.
4.) At this point it gets a little tricky you will need to move to I
 usually
go to about the second letter of the word chat and do a left mouse click
using the number pad that key is the divide sign). 5.) After pressing the
left mouse click you should turn back on pc cursor and scroll down
underneath chat it may say loading at this point I usually will press the
jaws key and the escape key at the same time this key combination updates
the screen usually it works the first time but should it not then try it
again. So this is the instructions for opening the chat area.

Instructions for getting a chat going:
1.) scroll down with PC cursor activated to the name you want.
2.) Once you are at the name you want press enter on it.
3.) I then will pull up the jaws find using the key combination (control
 +
 the letter F)
4.) At this point I will type in the name of the person I am wanting to
 chat
with and repeat this step until I am in the chat screen. You can find
 this
out by each time you find their name scroll down a bit and see if their
 is
additional information on this person such as view profile or close chat
window. another option is scroll down underneath the chat list and find
 the
 chat window that way.

NOTE: I have autoforms turned off using the jaws key and the letter V and
scrolling down to where it says auto forms on. I am not sure about this
 but
I believe you then press enter to toggle auto forms off if enter does not

 do
it then try pressing space bar.
   * * * With auto forms mode off I scroll down into the chat window and
listen for it to say edit at that point I can press enter and turn forms
mode back on. Once you type your message you then will press enter again
 to
 send the message.
You can check to see if the message was sent by scrolling through the
 chat
window and looking for your message.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Question about Dropbox

2010-01-06 Thread Debbie G
When you say, upload, in this case, is that the same as dropping it into
the root of the Dropbox folder. I've read messages where people were saying
that you have to put it into the root of the dropbox folder.

Hello, i dont think that you can share a folder with in the public
floder.

You will need to put the folder in the main directory of drop box.

Hi Joanne,

do the following two things to make Avast more accessible.
Configuring Avast to not use the skins for the simple user interface:
1. Start Avast.
2. Wait for the memory test to be completed, then close the web page that
appears. You should now land on a dummy check box.
3. Press the applications key to open a context menu, down arrow to
settings

and press enter. The Programme Settings dialogue box appears, with the
categories tree gaining focus.
4. Tab until you hear, enable skins for simple user interface check box
checked. Press space to uncheck it.
5. Tab to ok and press enter. You'll land back on the dummy check box.
6. Close and restart Avast. You should now be able to tab through the
controls in this programme.
Configuring JAWS to read lists in Avast:
1. Make sure that you're focused on the Avast Simple User Interface.
2. Press JAWS key 6 to open Configuration Manager.
3. Press enter to accept the New Configuration File dialogue box.
4. Press alt s to open the set options menu, then press a. The advanced
Options dialogue box appears.
5. Shift tab till you hear, Rely on MSAA for List Views check box not
checked. Press space to check it.
6. Press enter to activate the ok button.
7. Either press control s to save your configuration file immediately, or
press alt F4, pressing enter to activate the yes button on the confirm
dialogue box.
By doing these steps, you'll resolve an issue on some machines whereby
JAWS

stops speaking when focused on any of the lists in Avast.

For a complete scan, check all local disks, check archives, move the
slider
to 100% (thorough scan), and click start. For a quick scan put the slider
at

50 percent. Hope that helps. Take care.

Would I just check the archive and hard disc ones, or leave them all

Re: [JAWS-Users] Also Having Problems Selecting, Copying and Pasting Text

Hi Victor and list:

Sorry that I can't help, but I am having these same exact problems. In fact,
when I forward a message in OE and arrow down and press control shift home

I am using JAWS 10. Doing this in adobe is absolutely such a nightmare that
I can no longer use Jaws as my primary screen reader. What I have noticed is
that the select, copy, and paste functions in all the areas you mentioned

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Also Having Problems Selecting,Copying and Pasting
Text

Hi Folks,

Like that other person who was having trouble, quite often, in fact, this
happens all the time, when I go to copy text from a web page into a
document, notepad, WordPad or e-mail, I get some kind of code instead of the
text I've highlighted, copied and pasted.

This is getting fairly troublesome, as I often do this type of copying and
pasting to help friends with problems they may have, and where I find a
relevant bit of text on the net that can help them.

I'm using Jaws 10, latest build, Windows XP, Word 2003 and Outlook Express
6.

As far as I know, all of my settings are configured properly with the
configuration manager under highlighting options, and so I'm at a loss to
understand why this is.

I also have a problem where I am composing an e-mail, and, when I press the
down arrow in combination with the shift key to select the text, the line
will select, however, half of the words seem to be selected, as opposed to
the word. I mean it's like that function, called smart highlighting or
something like that, is turned off.

I've also come across a time or two, where I want to highlight a few words
in an e-mail message, whether reading to copy to another message, or just
composing the message for copying and pasting to a spot further down in the
message, or what ever, where, instead of the whole word being selected only,
the entire word is selected, right along with half, or a few letters of the
next word.

Can anyone help me with this.

Sorry for the long message, but I wasn't sure if those two things below were
significant or not.

Thanks all.

webpage no links list comes up either.

1. Should I have her do a repare on JAWS?

2. Should I have her go back to Adobe version 8, and if so where might I find
the link?

I don't know if the two things are related or not, she just really needs the
PDF documents to open! Any help on either or both of these problems would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks, Deb.

Would anybody be interested in a brief tutorial regarding disk space so
far as changing the size of your recycle bin and dumping some old files
that you don't need any longer? Maybe something else if I figure out what
and where to throw it in.

Re: [JAWS-Users] AVG 7.5 deadline now december 31 2008

2008-05-25 Thread Debbie G
I've downloaded the new AVG 8.0 and I don't like it at all.

I wish I would have known that I could have kept 7.5 until December 31,
2008, because I would have.

It is not Jaws user friendly at all and it's slowing my computer down.

Hi all! So in fact can we still use AVG 7.5 Free till 31 December? Well I
suppose since it's a forum hosted by the AVG company then we should
 believe
that to be true. But why are some of you getting an inaccessible popup
notification that asks you to upgrade to version 8? Strange!

[JAWS-Users] MSWord verbosity problem.

2008-04-03 Thread Debbie Bugella
Good morning:

I was doing a lot of editing in a document and somehow did something I have
absolutely no idea how to fix. Every time I arrow down line by line in a
document, JAWS keeps saying new Paragraph. Could someone please tell me how
to fix this? I have gone into verbosity and Config manager and can't fix it.
Using latest version of 9, XPPro, and office 2003. I have also loaded and
unloaded JFW. Thanks, Deb.

[JAWS-Users] Proofreading with JAWS.

2008-01-13 Thread Debbie Bugella
Hi:

I need to do a lot of proofreading and I know there is sounds manager, but I
need certain things that I can't find there; it would be simple to just make my
own scheme, but like I said, I can't find all the settings I need to change. I
thought there was a way to set specific settings for specific documents, or am
I just dreaming? Here is the settings I want:

Punctuation all
Speak first cap in upper case
Say attribute changes

I don't want to change these settings and then have to change them back again.
If I have a document and just name it proofread can I just have specific
settings for that document and just delete the text when I'm done and just use
that particular document over again for proofreading.

Finally, if I use print preview, will I be able to tell what will be hyphenated
at the end of a line? There are certain words and abbreviations I don't want
hyphenated so need to check and see if I need to put them on the next line. I
also need to determine what line will be at the bottom of a printed page. I
actually knew this at one time but forgot how to check. Hope this is a little
clear at least. Thanks for any help, Deb.

Well one work around is to save your documents as RTF documents and have a
separate configuration file for WordPad. You could then use the Classic
scheme with font attributes announced in Speech and Sound Manager and
 set
 punctuation to all.

I get rid of my initial caps problem by letting Word auto correct these
 whilst I am typing.

Depends on how complex the text is. I find rtf gives tables and most
 things
I need. I have routinely used RTF as a file type rather than doc and had
 never experienced a problem.

You can then reinsert into word for any any stuff you want to do after
 proof
 reading.

Alternatively you could get a freeware Word Processor to use instead of
 WordPad for this task.

 David Griffith

Re: [JAWS-Users] Append Clipboard Feature

Hi Denny:

I have had this happen with both JAWS 8 and 9. I also unload JAWS when this
happens. However, it doesn't always happen. I know this is really basic, but

happen and work like a charm if the application window becomes maximized

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem with the append
 clipboard feature with Jaws 9.
I can append copied text to the clipboard and then copy that text.
However, when I try `to overwrite the contents of the clipboard by doing
 the
control c, I get the normal message saying, pressing control c or control
 x
will overwrite the content of the clipboard, do you want to continue. I
 say
yes, but when I go to paste the clipboard, the original text is pasted and
 it hasn't been overwritten.
The only thing I can do is to unload Jaws 9 and then restart it.
Any suggestions, or am I the only one having this problem?

 Thanks,

[JAWS-Users] Navigating large PDF documents.

2007-09-02 Thread Debbie Bugella
Hi:

I have to navigate some large (500 page) PDF documents; I have the latest
version of Acrobat reader and JFW. As far as accessibility is concerned, it
states that it is best to load one page at a time. I need to search the entire
document for certain terms, so loading one page at a time doesn't work. Could
someone give me tips on whether it is all right to load the entire document,
and settings that would be best for large documents. I understand that I can
use quick key navigation as well? Thanks, Deb.

I personally don't know, but I will ask my wife as she has used the program
in the past. Actually so did I but it's been too long and I don't
 remember.

 Hi all,

I don't know a whole lot about the program, but what I want to do is learn
the keystroke for uploading files to a person's FTP site using this
 program.

If anyone knows how to do this, please let me know.

 Thanks in advance.

[JAWS-Users] About AVG and attachments

2007-07-13 Thread Debbie
Hi All,

As some of you know, I recently installed AVG on my laptop.

Here's the problem: When I receive messages in Outlook Express, Jaws says
they have attachments on them. Now I haven't had this problem until I
installed AVG. I thought I remember someone else having this problem back
some time ago.

Any help would b appreciated.

Take care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] norton removal tool

2007-06-15 Thread Debbie G
Hi all,

I want to thank all of you for your help.

A neighbor came over to read the letters that are inside the graphics, and
the removal tool removed all of Norton's programs with no problem.

I guess I'll go ahead and install AVG.

Take care.

Debbie

Subject: [JAWS-Users] norton removal tool

Debbie, I just removed all of my Norton components with the removal tool
downloaded from the jaws-users website. I tried everything to find that
graphic and nothing worked. i used the jaws cursor; i virtualized the
window; I even copied the virtualized window and emailed it to my husband.
None of that worked. Griff came home and read me the letters to type in
 and
everything went smoothly after that. If you can get someone to read that
graphic to you, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how well it
 goes.
It even removed the icon from the desktop. HTH, Karen
