Hi Robin,

I have been experimenting with the, *, dictionary tweak, & Jaws only
reported UnReconciled when typing a password if I tweaked the Default JDF
dictionary manager, but not when I tweaked the Word JDF dictionary manager.
The Word JDF dictionary manager was my experimental application.

But, if I changed the tweak to,* , a star then a space, in the default JDF
dictionary manager, then used a space after the star in the Word application
JDF dictionary then everything worked as it should all the way around.

What I'm trying to say is if you want the,*, to say, UnReconciled in a home
budgit, then add a space after the star in the application dictionary, but
then you'll also have to put a star then a space in front of any entry in
the application as well.

If I've totally confused you by now, just let the list know what application
you want to use, & I'll type up a set of steps that'll get it done for you.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

The reason for that is the system substitutes your password for a series of
stars.

It should be a small price in the long run.

Hi Robin,

To edit the dictionary you're wanting, try the following:
1. Open the application you want to work with, & press, Insert / Jaws key +
D, to open that application's dictionary manager.
2. You should be on the, Add... button, so press the spacebar to open.
Press your backspace key a couple of times to make sure any text that might
be here is deleted.
3. Type the, * , star symbol. Now I'm assuming you're meaning the star
symbol you get by typing, Shift + 8, on the number row above the main
keyboard.
4. Tab to, Replacement Word, press the spacebar to open, enter the
replacement text, UnReconciled in a home budgit.
5. Tab to, Okay, press enter, press, Control + S, to save, & Alt +F4, to
close.
If this doesn't work let us know what happened. Using the above steps it
worked on my Windows 7 Pro computer.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

For a JAWS frame I think the only way would be to write a script and use the
Run Script or Run ScriptEvent option. If you go into the frame options in
the frame manager and go where you can add actions to your frame there is no
built-in script for spelling the contents of the frame, at least not that I
can tell. However, there is an option to run an associated script.

Hi Robin,

Read through the steps below first before doing anything to give you an idea
of what you're going to be doing.

Note: The apostrophy & dollar sign are only examples.

You can change how Jaws speaks the apostrophy in the Settings Centter
default all applications by doing the following. If you only want to change
the punctuation settings in a particular application just open the Settings
Center while in the particular application by pressing Insert + 6, on the
number row above the main keyboard to open the Settings Center for that
particular application:

1. Press Insert + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to open the
Settings Center, & press, Control, shift, + D, to open default all
applications.
2. Arrow down to, Punctuation closed & press right arrow to open.
3. Arrow down to customize punctuation & press the spacebar to open. Don't
press enter here, if you press enter instad of the spacebar, the Settings
Center will close.
4.A. When making changes in the customize punctuation list, if you do not
want
Jaws to speak/recognize a particular punctuation mark you want to choose the
" all " selection. You will have 4 radio buttons to arrow up or down
through. They are none, some, most, & all. In these selections they work
backwards than what you would think. For example; If you choose " none "
for the dollar sign, Jaws will speak / recognize every dollar sign in
whatever you are reading. On the other hand, if you choose the " all "
radio button, Jaws will not speak / recognize any dollar signs.

4.B. After you pressed the spacebar on customize punctuation, you are now in
a list of punctuation marks. Arrow down the list and when
you have the punctuation mark you want to change highlighted, tab 1 time to
the radio buttons that I mentioned earlier.
5. Keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about these choices working
backwards, select the box in this list, in your case not wanting any
apostrophy's spoken, choose the all button.
6. Now, if you want to make a change to another punctuation mark, shift tab
back to the list and highlight a different punctuation mark, tab back to the
radio buttons and select the box you prefer.
7. After you are done making your changes tab to okay and press the
spacebar.
8. Tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press the spacebar to save
your changes & close the Settings Center.

Now, I hope that you are not as confused as I am after typing all of this.
LOL Hope this has helped.

Either f4 or spacebar to launch a scan. However if you have Openbook in

similar to eloquence, so likely that is what you are hearing.

Hi,
It's what worked for me here whether it does or doesn't force the
announcement of said message it does put the safely remove hardware option
in the system tray which makes many feel better even if some argue you don't
need to use it any longer. I always do just to be safe.
Note there can also be more than one windows explorer entry so someone might
have to activate or deactivate each to see what it might or might not cause
to appear or disappear. But since these are toggles that's easy enough to
do.

Take good care.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Jaws & Speak Dropbox

2017-12-24 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
That's speak drop box checking for updates to itself I believe and if my
understanding is correct in its own dialog that is speak drop box's you can
set that to off.

Its tray icon should get you to its preferences dialog.
I hope that helps.

Hi All,

Running Windows 7 Pro, J16 thru J2018, & Dropbox. Jaws keeps reporting that
Dropbox is checking for an update. How can I stop this update reporting
crap? I don't know if it's the Speak Dropbox program responsible for this,
or if it's the Dropbox program & it's entries in the Task Scheduler?! Any
help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, & a very Merry Christmas to

[JAWS-Users] Reading Categories in Outlook 2013

2017-08-16 Thread East, Robin
Hi Folks,

Using latest JAWS 18, MS Office Outlook 2013 on Win 10 machine

how can one make JAWS 18 read the category name if the order of the columns
show as follows: from, categories, subject, received, size.
Is there a way to make JAWS read them in this order as they are presented on
the screen?

I'm using G-mail for the Jaws Users list, but I still received your message,

Can you confirm?

We have been hit in the past by email providers bouncing messages from this
domain, but today ranks as the worst in our history. We lost 162 members
today just under 25% of our total subscribers. Almost all of them were using
GMail with a couple of other ISPs thrown in for good measure.

We have never had a problem with GMail before but they sure made up for it
this morning.

If anybody has contact with one of the people who have been removed ask them
to contact GMail if they can and ask this domain be placed on their white
list or whatever they happen to call it.

A few more days like this and there won’t be much of a point in going on.

I remember as a little boy my dad saying you can’t fight city hall. In this
case you can’t fight being black listed.

[JAWS-Users] How to make your default windo Maximized every time you open an application

2017-06-13 Thread East, Robin
Folks, I received this from a co-worker and it works so very well.
If anyone finds that this does not work please notify me.
To make your windo maximized every time

- Open the IE 11 (or any other application window) and size the window to your
liking (in our case we want it maximized
Windows up arrow or alt + spacebar +x
Check to ensure by using JAWS + F10
arrow down to your application and it should say `maximized`
Then tap escape
- Now press ALT + spacebar (this will open up the System menu),
then arrow down until you hear `Close`
-, Press CTRL + Enter to close the program
- This will set the IE window (or any other selected application window) to
open at the maximized setting every time.

Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS crashing

2017-04-01 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
Speaking strictly for myself during the most recent two crippling shutdowns
this method failed as something in the jfw hang caused me to not be able to
impact the cursor by using keyboard commands thus even if I got into the
shutdown menu I could not by any means known to man machine or beast move
the cursor off of shutdown nor could I invoke the shutdown that supposedly
had focus. It is a sad sorry state of affairs when it afflicts one and I
never saw it before the most recent build of jfw 18.

Tom,

Another way to shut down or restart your computer when JAWS crashes is by
pressing Windows Key+X, followed by the letter U. At this point, pressing
the letter R will restart the computer and pressing the letter U will shut
your computer down. I am not saying it is a better way, just another way,
and it is always good to have a backup.

YouTube BLG is accessible with Jaws. I don't have a link for it but it works
very well. It does not have all the options that the one you mentioned has
but it does a very good job. It even does playlists without a premium
subscription.
Hope that helps.

Hi everyone!

Does anyone know of an accessible Youtube to MP3 convertor? The one I just
looked at had an installer that was loaded down with third party programs
with opt out options that weren't accessible, so I canceled the install.
That one was from DVD Video Soft.

Another one that I looked at from Free Make wasn't accessible.

I used to use Youtube to MP3 convertor.org but for the past several months,
all it does is throw up a message about maintenance and to try again in an
hour or so.

It doesn't have to be free, though that would be nice.

Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] Live Mail Irratation

2016-11-14 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I have no answer for the problem but can verify experiencing it as well and
suspect that since support for the program from Microsoft will be ending in
early 2017 it might only get worse over time.
That's why I've begun using Microsoft Outlook and I'm sure fans of other
programs will chime in as well with their favorites. While it's true that as
long as one has an installer for the program and can get it up and running
it will remain usable this highlights one of the problems that comes with
continued use of such programs which won't continue to evolve to integrate
into newer operating systems or to handle newer protocols or security
concerns.

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws and itunes support

2016-09-17 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I've seen nothing in writing that would indicate such and would find such an
assertion suspect in the highest degree as it doesn't seem like it's serve
its maker's purpose to even state such a thing if indeed they even had.

Just my two cents no one asked for.
Speaking of JFW and iTunes I made Apple Accessibility aware of a bug whereby
when syncing something like music or ringtones if you choose sync selected
tracks or tones screen readers are unable to read the resulting list view
from which you can check your selections. If others are so inclined feel
free to join in drawing Apple's attention to it in hopes it can be fixed as
they acknowledge it's their issue not one lain at the feet of screen
readers.

Hi Jaws users list, this is my updated section of my W-10 and Jaws, complete
guide for the anniversary update to W-10. Please read and let me know what you
all think about the guide. This helps me to determine if I am helping you all
learn about W-10.

Section, Customizing Windows 10 with Jaws.

Customizing w-10 with Jaws.

Overview.
Each section starts with***.
1. Reinstalling Jaws 17.
2. Setting default programs in w-10.
3. Changing your folder options, now called File Explorer Options, in w-10.
4. How to Turn off the background apps in w-10.
5. How to change how Windows updates are delivered.
6. Live Tile Region, now called, pinns view list box.
7. The All Apps region, now called, apps view list box, of the Start button
area.
8. How to put the, This PC, Icon on the Desktop.
9. How to put a shortcut to your user folders, on the Desktop.
10. Making Program shortcut Icons, on your Desktop.
11. How to put a shortcut, for iE on your Desktop or Taskbar.
12. Using a Pin to log-in to w-10.
13. How to Verify your Microsoft Account in Windows 10, I think this is correct.
14. Miscellaneous.
15. Making your W-10 desktop look like W-7.
16. The Notification area and the Notification Chevron button.

1. ***Reinstalling Jaws 17.
1. The first thing you may want to do on your Windows 10 computer is, Download
the latest version of Jaws 17 to your Download folder.
2. If you upgraded to w-10 from w-7 or w-8.1, you should for best performance,
uninstall Jaws, you can keep shared components and shared settings, so,
uninstall Jaws 17.
3. You then can use Narrator, press Windows key+Enter, to turn Narrator on/off,
to go to your download folder where a downloaded copy of Jaws 17 should be
already downloaded.
4. Now, install Jaws 17, Freshly on to your new w-10 computer.
5. This has proven to increase the performance of Jaws on w-10, especially, in
the Start button area, and in the Settings area of w-10.
6. Redo your Jaws shortcut keystroke, Control+ALT+J.
7. Redo your Jaws setting to make sure, that it is set to come on at the
log-onscreen.
For whatever reason these two settings are not saved, all other Jaws settings
are preserved.
8. If you are using Open book, you should do a fresh reinstall of this program
as well as, any other screen reading programs, on your w-10 computer.

2. ***Setting default programs in w-10.

Tab one time, You are in a horizontal list of 9 items, use your right and left

clients.
5. Tab to, say, WLM email client default, press the spacebar on it, tab to say,
Outlook 2016, and press the spacebar, to set Outlook 2016 as your default email

Hi List,

Does anyone know how I can force JAWS to use the single-user serial number
on a laptop instead of the network serial number that we have? JAWS goes
into 40-minute mode when one of my users is off of our network. Even though
he has a single-user license installed on his machine.

Your help is greatly appreciated,

The problem is not that I cannot read it. The document reads fine online.
The problem is that I want to save it for later.

I have always been able to download them and do my bank statements at a
later date, not online. I am looking for a way to save the PDF.

I may be way behind on any of your emails so pardon me if this was already

I can no longer download my bank statements, but I can get them to appear on

There are no menus and the JAWS curser is not showing any options either.

While installing Java (JDK 8) under Windows 10, I discovered that JAWS was
unable to read the dialogues of the installation software.

A colleague helped me to complete the installation. I then invoked the
"jabswitch -enable" command as noted in the Java accessibility documentation,
which is supposed to enable the Java Access Bridge. After dooing so however,
the Java Control Panel (presumably a Java application that is included in the
Java package) was still not accessible with JAWS.

The machine is running JAWS 17.

Have others encountered this problem? Is there a known fix? I need to run at
least one Java application, although it may not be using the Java SWING
components and thus it may be accessible anyway - I'll probably have an
opportunity to find out tomorrow.
It's actually the Cisco WebEx Meeting application, which I want to use for
certain meetings that I attend.

Hi, Robin.

To address your last questions first, you can create a new profile in the JAWS
Voices dialogs that retains what you already have but that adds features. For
example, in a given profile, you can select a specific "person" for certain
tasks, such as one for the PC cursor and another for the JAWS cursor. You can
also select the rate at which that person speaks.

I think the easiest way to get what you want is to start from your existing
default and tab through the Voice Adjustment dialog options. You'll see the
ones I mention. In this case, choose a "person" to speak the voice you want to
verbalize messages and select the rate. Then when you arrive at "save,"
consider giving the resulting profile a new name. this way you don't lose your
settings in the old profile but can test how the new settings sound with the
new profile.

As for re-hearing messages, one technique that often works is to press the
numpad's left mouse button twice quickly. When you mention "history," are you
referring to the JAWS layered command for the last several (one hundred?)
verbalizations? If not, try it. I've found it rarely works for me. It's amazing
how much stuff gets said in a very short time.

Is there a theme or way to change the voice and rate of that voice so it is
different than that we use for regular JAWS use? It would be helpful if we can
have the ARIA message come up with a voice and rate of speed of our choosing
that would be different then the default JAWS boice we are using.

If these are not part of the JAWS package can it be something Freedom can

Good afternoon, Jaws users list.
For all the iTunes users.
iTunes 12.3.317 is out today.
Funny thing when I opened my iTunes today, it told me that there was an
update.
I tried like usual using Jaws 17, to go through the iTunes update normally
in which I have no issues doing to update iTunes.
Today however it failed twice.
So, I went to ninite.com and downloaded and ran it from there with no
issues.
This seems to be my week with facing all kinds of issues.LOL.
Yesterday, I added some audio files to my OneDrive group download page.
Microsoft wanted me to use the groove music app to play them from OneDrive.
That was fine.
But they had a stupid ad trying to get me to buy it for all my devices.
They had a get started button, but know way to decline the dumb thing.
I had to recreate my OneDrive shared folders on my desktop giving them a
slightly different name.
I then copied all the tutorials from the old folders to the new ones.
I stopped sharing the old folders and deleted them.
I put the new OneDrive folders in sink with my computer.
I got a share a OneDrive link for both folders individually.
I then had to switch to Jaws 16 to make changes to my Yahoo group settings,
Jaws 17 still will not work doing this task.
Both my OneDrive group download pages are working correctly now.
Seems like Microsoft is trying to integrate all their programs together.
This is a challenge all by itself, we don’t need all the ads to complicate
things even more.
Are any of you who are using Jaws 17 to update iTunes having any problems?
Thanks for listening.
Now time for more coffee.

Hi guys, so in solving one problem another one arose. I would like to pick
your brains with this one.
Jaws is running.
I press insert spacebar s and jaws announces speech off.
I press control alt n and NVDA starts.
I turn off speech on NVDA using insert s, NVDA announces speech mode off.
I press the pass through command for NVDA wich is insert f2.
Then I press insert spacebar s and jaws announces speech on.
Fantastic I figured this one out but things can never be easy a new problem
arises.
I can't at this point use my up and down arrow keys to read in a word
document or email jaws absolutely says nothing. If I try arrowing up and
down on the desk top jaws reads everything on my desktop as usual.
Any ideas how to solve this one?

possible to arrow thru the items and choose what you want to do with it.
or at least, use the JAWS cursor to review the list, if anything is

even though there 2 items that are reported as being quarantined. and I
don't know how to display or interact with them.

So, the more of us testing this issue, the better.
I think it is something in the Jaws program, I could be wrong.

I am not in Windows 10 but Windows 7 with JAWS 17 and Office 365.
I have experienced the 10 second or more silence in JAWS 17. I at first
assumed it was due to having both MAGic and JAWS in the same machine which, of
course, run perfectly together.
However, I am seeing some instances on this list of the instances of JAWS going

I just switched to JAWS 16 and updated to the 16.0.4468 update.
So far I believe it is executing more quickly but time will tell if it
eliminates the pauses. More later.

Hi everyone,

I've been made an admin on a work related distribution list in ms 2010 but I
cannot modify the list as I am unable to click on it with jaws.

I was told to open a new message and right click on the contact list I've
entered into the to field.

Does anyone know if there is another way?

Folks, I am still having issues with the Outlook Calendar where the current day
of appointments is readable but as you move to the next day or the previous day
the information moves on the screen and if you are sighted you see the next day
or previous day appointments. However, JAWS is stuck on the current day. Total
loss of focus.

A number of folks including technical Help at Freedom tell me this is fixable
in the United States. As of today I have no way to correct this for folks in
Canada.

If you have a solution can you put it to the list or send it to me privately.

The Calendar works well with JAWS 12 but not JAWS 16 and JAWS 17.

Anyone have a step by step solution to fix this issue?

I am using JAWS 16 last build Windows 7, and Microsoft Outlook 2010. I have
also checked this using JAWS 17 latest build and results are the same.

Thank you

Re: [JAWS-Users] Kangaroo computer and JAWS 17

2015-12-31 Thread East, Robin
Here is some info for those that did not google it:
InFocus, an American electronics company has announced the launch of Kangaroo.

Size: 124mm length, 80.5mm width, and 12.9mm girth, is roughly the size of a
smartphone. It comes with a removable base unit, which has an HDMI port, one
USB 2.0 port, one USB 3.0 port, and a DC power port. The device weighs just 200
grams (without adapter and power cord), and even features a Windows Hello
fingerprint sensor

it is powered by a quad-core Intel 'Cherrytrail' Atom x5-Z8500 processor
clocked at 1.44GHz, with a Burst frequency of 2.24GHz.
Other features include 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, and a 32GB of eMMC storage, which you
can expand via microSDXC card (up to 128GB) should you need more storage.

The battery is suggested to last four hours under "casual use",
the portable PC also has a Micro-USB port for charging. I think one can use
this port for a headset if your headset is adapted with an adapter female 3.5
to male MicroUSB

the Kangaroo runs Windows 10.
The mini-PC features Wi-Fi 802.11ac
and Bluetooth 4.0 wireless connectivity.

About a hundred US dollars or 144Canadian including shipping and taxes.

I have put JAWS 17 on this and it seems to be pretty peppy. I will be testing
it more this weekend to see how it works with docking station and usb keyboard
and headset as well as without the docking station using Bluetooth keyboard and
Bluetooth headset. Curious I am and so far it seems to be what I was looking
for. There is no screen so one has to use the HDMI to connect to screen or
IPad. Voice comes through when connected to screen using the HDMI port.
However, I just need speakers ( no headphone jack) thus the use of the micro
USB port for wired headset may be useful) and a keyboard. Voice commands will
be of interest using Microsoft's answer to Apples SIRI.

Most important is how jaws will work in this small unit. I suspect for simple
applications all will be fine but if one opens up to much then unit may become
very sluggish due to the limited 2 gig of RAM.

Hi,
Just so you know HP will be able to walk you through it with sighted
assistance but they won't be able to make bios changes remotely if that was
what you were thinking. Hope that helps.

Thanks to all that have given advice on this matter.
The shift f10 does not work, adding the fn key to it does not work either.
The f keys are working in action mode so I will be either going into the
bios or just calling HP support and have them take care of it because I also
need to know how to shut off the mouse pad.
Thanks again to all and Happy New Year.

sighted help? I would like to get my function keys working the way they are

Curt,

HP has re-mapped the function keys.
Usually, just to the right of the lefthand control-key is a Func key. You
need to press that in conjunction woith one of the functionkeys f1-f12 to
get it to do the traditional function. Otherwise, you are in what HP calls
ActionKey mode.

Generally, you can return the HP to function like normal:

This "amazing" technology is called "Action Keys Mode", and the good news is
that it is very easily turned off to get your laptop back to working the
standard way of having to press the fn key.

Steps to fix:
- Shut Down your computer completely. Don't put in Sleep or Hibernate
- Press Power button to start
- Immediately press F10 key a few times
- This will start the BIOS
- Go to 3rd page (System Configuration). Press right arrow key to go to next
page
- Select the "Action Keys Mode". Press ENTER. Select DISABLE
- Save and Exit

Hi,
it is accessed often by pressing f8 I believe it is while the pc is first
starting up allowing someone with vision to choose how they'd like to boot
the pc I.E. into system bios or safe mode or normal for instance. I've been
told by HP reps that it also can be found after pressing control alt and
delete together.

I hope that helps.
If you have a pair of eyes handy you could try that or call when they're
available and I'm sure that HP tech support could walk you through it. they
do have a special accessibility department. Its number is:

Hi.

It shouldn't have much trouble with that, it does after all have typical
tablet-like specs. Someone I know has one just a bit bigger than a USB
flash drive that goes directly into the HDMI port, which he hasn't since
he can't see the TV. The Cangaroo if I recall rightly is a pretty nice
outfit that only just recently released. It has a dock I believe, does
it deal fine with being removed from the dock while running and placed
back on it again? Since if memory serves it has an internal battery,
it'll keep on going while off the dock until you put it back again. I
read that the out of box experience setup process for this device had
been modified to work more like setting up a smart tv box would and thus
is not typical windows setup. Is this so and if so, were you able to do
it with Narrator even though?

Hi sir,
I wasn't advocating for or against it one way or another. I've run with it

I don't have a horse in this race (smile).
I was just trying to clarify the point as one of the earlier posters made it
seem as though one needed to turn off the use a password option in the mix
with all of this and I didn't think that was correct. pardon my paraphrase
of its actual control name. I wrote this on the fly and didn't stop long
enough to get the exact wording.

I hope that makes more sense. Sorry for furthering confusion on the matter.

Hi Robin,
Again, there is no advantage to turning quick start off.
This is a benefit of using w-10.
For all practical purposes your computer is shut down, when choosing shut
down.
I have done this from the beginning every day when I am done using the
computer, I use shut down.
In the morning I just press the power button, in about 10 seconds or less,
my computer comes on with Jaws talking.
I then press the 4 digit pin, in a few seconds I am on the desktop.
So, I don't understand all the fuss about turning it off.
I am a big security minded person.
So, anything beyond my anti-virus, that helps protect my computer is
welcome.
Good luck, just my opinion.

One reason is because if you are running a program in demo version, the
quick start will not set the timer back so you can use for another 40

quick start does not shut the computer totally down, so it is not the same
as a complete shut down. I do not like the quick start for all of these

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Windows 10 crashes; safe mode &

restore?

Hello Gang:

I have a windows 10 laptop that has been working fine for

almost two

months. Yesterday, right after jaws came up, I heard a

question

similar to:

"Hello, how do you like this picture. We will be sending

you more, et

cetra." Even though I do not sign in with a password, I

was able to

find the sign in button, and struck the space bar.

However, the

computer crashed. as in shut down. I thought it was

automatically

re-starting, for some unknown reason. Did a forced

re-start. Heard

similar info. Found sign in button.
Space bar. Computer shut down.

One of the times, I heard something about starting in the

locked mode.

Now, the computer starts normally, as it pertains to the

sound and

humming.
However, there is no sound. Not even the windows start up

sound. The

computer automatically shuts down in about a minute and

half, after I

press the start button.

Without sighted help how do I get it to start in safe

mode? Since

narrator has been so good in windows 10, will it allow me

to do a

system restore?

Sighted help might arrive, sometime tomorrow. But, I was

just

wondering if I could do it using jaws and narrator.

Thanks, and Merry Christmas. He is The Reason for the

season.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2010 Calendar day view

2015-12-18 Thread East, Robin
Folks, I just updated to December JAWS 16 update. No change with the calendar
view. I cannot right or left arrow and get the next or previous day events.
Same using JAWS 17.

This works with JAWS 12 and Outlook 2010 but not with JAWS 16 or JAWS 17. We
have alerted Freedom (John Carson) and they have not given any fixes to date.

Anyone else having similar issues. This has been tried on several PC's now in
various locations. We are using Windows 7, JAWS 16 latest build, and MSOffice
2010.

Hi,
Perhaps it’s bad internet form to reply to one’s own post but I thought I
would as I’ve just discovered much to my great delight that while JFW 17
doesn’t read the to and from fields in the dialog for printing envelopes in
Microsoft Office 2016 Microsoft Narrator does perform flawlessly. So anyone
looking for a work-around in the meantime might be as happy as I am to
discover that Narrator is a help in this situation.
Here’s hoping that perhaps one day sooner rather than later JFW can be made
to work better in this dialog once again as it did in jfw and office
versions past.
I hope that helps someone.

[JAWS-Users] FSOCR Executible File

2015-12-11 Thread East, Robin
Folks, I just found out today that the FSOCR executable file that you need for
the "OCR" portion of JAWS is a different file for each version of JAWS. Only
the "size" of the file changes. The name stays the same. So please ensure when
you down load JAWS you also download the FSOCR file that goes with your JAWS
version. For some reason Freedom Scientific is not changing the name or version
number so the only way to tell is by the size of the executable file. And, no I
do not know if the latest file of the same name is backward compatible with
previous versions.

Maybe in the future they will address this.

I agree it's working for me too here. And I'm not sure I understand the

word correctly when it didn't know how in the default dictionary and had no
problem saving and maintaining the results. If this refers to something else

You tap your five key on the first letter and it will spell fanatically for

That next letter is not fanatically spelled.

Hi,
Perhaps a clean uninstall and reinstall or at the very least a run of the

perhaps a call to FS for help.
I wish you luck finding a solution it certainly sounds as though something

Re: [JAWS-Users] dvdvideosoft free youtube to mp3 converter

2015-12-01 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
when last I looked which was last week it was right on the same page as the
regular download just below it with the classic designation.
while the current non-classic version is more accessible than the one that
preceded it you still can't access options which limits a lot of
functionality so for now the classic version is still the best bet in my
view. Note: once installed the classic version will sadly keep alerting you
at each launch that there's an update but that doesn't pertain to itself. I
contacted them to see if they could make it so it only alerts users to
updates for the classic version but have heard nothing back as of yet.

I hope this helps.

Hi.
I have the same problem with my banking website.
I sometimes have to switch browsers, and sometimes I have to change screen
readers in the middle of what I am doing to click a button, or link.
I think the website is just poorly coded not taking accessibility into
account.

There is a lawyer in California that is an expert in getting many of these
sites to make their websites accessible.
She made Bank of America change their website to make it more accessible,
and she just made humana make their prescription labels accessible. She also
make CVS do the same thing.

I try routing cursors, turning off virtual cursor, left clicking, just about

Due to the configuration of some newer websites with maybe too many

Re: [JAWS-Users] november windows 10 update

2015-11-21 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
With all due respect I can't speak authoritatively as I don't work for them
but I can say that when I renewed just a few weeks ago I was specifically
told that my SMA's were for versions 18 and 19 specifically. So I'd be
careful not to assume that they can be used for any future version
regardless of number. For if that were so people wouldn't have to pay for
multiple upgrades in order to catch up if they were a few versions behind.

Just a thought.

have 2 SMA's when versions 19 and 20 are released. I just used my last SMA

Re: [JAWS-Users] jaws activating wrong link why?

2015-11-18 Thread Robin Frost

Hi,
I can confirm this behavior. It's happened a few times to me recently on
Amazon.com. I was on the your orders link. It verbalized your orders but
somehow after entering on what verbalized as your orders I ended up on a
page for sellers on amazon. thank goodness for alt left arrow. I could
reproduce this at will so I think I can safely say it wasn't user error in
this case.
As for its cause or solution such still escapes me but I can indeed confirm
the behavior you report.
I know it isn't a solution but sometimes knowing that an anomaly isn't
unique to you and your set up can bring a bit of solace.

here is the skinny.

Let's say there are two links I am passing by, about and contact us. I
click contact us and the about page opens.

The only way I can get the right link to launch is listing the links, tab to
move to link, then activate link. That is to much just to read a page lol,

When you boot the computer, wait a minute or two, to allow the system
too load everything, then press the Windows key + the Letter U, to
open the "Ease of Access Center".
Next, press Alt + the letter N, to start Narrator.
Be patient, Narrator may take a few seconds to start talking.
From this point, you should be able to navigate the pre-setup screens
using the tab key and arrow keys.
Once you have completed this process, Windows should load the desktop,
at which time you can install Jaws.

Hi,
I wish I could remember what I did to fix that as I encountered that just
recently myself. I did turn off the reading pane but I'm not sure if that
setting was what addressed it.
You could also check under view to see which columns are displaying.
On a related note I'm wondering if anyone else has encountered or could
reproduce an issue where jfw refused to announce the state of conversation
threads in windows live mail. I.E. whether they're expanded or collapsed.
I've seen this both in jfw 16 and 17 under windows 7 and 10 and no matter
what I do I can't get it to report this consistently.
NVDA however reports it flawlessly no labeling of graphics necessary. It
used to be that if you set graphics to all in live mail and labeled the
pertinent graphic it'd then verbalize but now even that isn't seeming to
work by me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks LeDon for letting

Hi Wayne,
When you boot the computer, wait a minute or two, to allow the system
too load everything, then press the Windows key + the Letter U, to
open the "Ease of Access Center".

It
used to be that if you set graphics to all in live mail and labeled the
pertinent graphic it'd then verbalize but now even that isn't seeming to
work by me. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks LeDon for letting
me dovetail on your question.

Sorry, I need to change the subject. When looking at my in box in WLM jaws
speaks only the subject of the emails in the in box. I would like for jaws
to tell me who the email is from, the subject, and the date the email was
sent.

My wife tells me that all that information is showing on the monitor. But
Jaws does not speak it. How do I get jaws to speak all of that information
when I am in the inbox?

One more thing, what is the latest revision of windows live mail? Thank you,

Hi,
You are correct version 4.0 of this program has become inaccessible. However
the older classic version can still be used with screen reader software.
The maker of this program has been alerted to the problem and claim that
forth coming program updates will remedy this break in accessibility.

the classic version can be located at:
quoting DVD VideoSoft from twitter:

"You may use the classic version for now"

It's the second button.

I hope this helps.

Hi,
Once the program's own installer launches after having started the process
with revo close the window from the program itself leaving revo open and it
should allow you to proceed.

2015-09-25 Thread East, Robin
Folks, when first opening up a web page and JAWS tells me I have 1 application,
several regions, several headings, and several links I know how to jump to the
regions, links, and headings. However, is there a keystroke to jump to the
application JAWS shows as being on a web page?

I'm having a problem where the JAWS startup wizard restarts every time I
login as a different user in windows. is this normal? or what setting
needs to be changed to stop this from happening?

I'm trying to set it up where a standard user is automatically logged
in, but it's a little more involved, and I don't know enough to pull
this off. since this issue might be considered off topic (and I
apologize if it is), I'd appreciate it if someone who knows about
setting up multiple accounts, please email me off list? I have some
questions; I really could use the help.
