I press CTRL+W and I go back to the web page. It is like another tab you
have open, so CTRL+W closes the downloads page and gets you back to the
original web page!

You can also use Ctrl-Tab to cycle between the download page and any other
open tabs, without closing anything. This might be useful while monitoring a
time-consuming download.

I actually tried clicking on the link and noticed the download started, no
prompting of any kind however.
