I finally remembered an alternative, which is to go into Windows search, type defaults, then tab through until I get a programs list, from which I can set my default. If you're in Windows 10, Windows key plus I, go to Apps and the default Apps. Press enter or spacebar on that to select it then tab down the the web browser option and pick Firefox.
