I'm wondering how much longer this thread will be permitted as it has gone
to being an OpenBook topic rather than a JAWS topic. Perhaps the moderators
are simply looking at the subject line and moving on rather than reading the
messages? Just curious.

Gerald,
Japanese or Chinese script would still account for gibberish output.
You might need to ask a sighted person if that is what is actually on the
paper.
Sometimes instructions are very small print, or not well printed.
If it is very small, perhaps it could be enlarged on a copy machine, though
I have found that my scanner and Open Book can scann rather small text.
Blessings,
Tom

Open Book has this capability.
When you are in Adobe, use Control P to print.
But instead of the default printer, you should find, Freedom Import
Printer.
When you choose this printer to print to, Open Book will start, scan the
pdf file as if it were a paper file in your scanner, and hopefully leave
you with readable text.
Be patient, it may take a couple minutes for Open Book to boot and start
scanning.

Thanks for this great tip. I had no idea OB could translate PDF documents
that Adobe can't handle into speech. I tried it on a PDF instruction manual

pages translated into gibberish. Is there any way to clean this up to make

Hi, all. Thanks for the help.

I'm downloading version 8.0 from the FS site now. I'm hoping it has all of
the features of the full product.

Be patient, it may take a couple minutes for Open Book to boot and start
scanning.

Gerald,
Japanese or Chinese script would still account for gibberish output.
You might need to ask a sighted person if that is what is actually on the
paper.
Sometimes instructions are very small print, or not well printed.
If it is very small, perhaps it could be enlarged on a copy machine,
though I have found that my scanner and Open Book can scann rather small
text.

This happens more often when scanning, could those pages be flipped upside

2010-07-11 Thread Steve
Actually, both the Kurzweil Virtual Printer and Open Book's Freedom Import
Printer function in that way. It is as if you placed each pdf page on the
scanner.

The recognize images option in both programs, which at least in the older
versions OpenBook did better on is to convert a .tif or .Jpeg image and try
to recognize the text contained in the image.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS and Blank PDF Documents

Hi.

using JAWS 10 and Adobe Reader version 8:

I'm trying to read menus at http://www.pagliaiscarbondale.com/ that is a PDF
document.

I can download the document, and I get the message that the document is
untagged and Adobe needs to prepare it for reading. Then, once the document
is ready, all I get is a message saying Alert, empty page.

I've tried saving as a text document and still there's nothing visible to
JAWS.

Any thoughts on what to do here?

Thanks.
