Hi.

I forgot to answer your other question. The keyboard shortcut list you
posted below is completely consistent with my T480s, so likely as
they're both Think Pads it's good for your e500 what ever you said it
is. Also, I noticed a reference to f11 opening a keyboard control thing.
I tried that here and it opened Lenovo Vantage on the input section,
which is where you go if you want to swap your fn and control keys or
toggle what the function keys do by  default and such.

FN + ESC + Switch the key function between the standard F1-F12 function and
the special function printed as an icon on each key. When the Fn Lock
indicator

is off, you can use the default function. You can change the default
function in the Keyboard Properties window.

F1: Mute or unmute the speakers. When the speakers are muted, the indicator
on the key is on. If you mute the sound and turn off your computer, the
sound

press F2 or F3.

F2: Decrease the speaker volume.

F3:  Increase the speaker volume.

F4: Mute or unmute the microphones. When the microphones are muted, the
indicator on the key is on.

F5: Darken the computer (LCD) display.

F6: Brighten the computer (LCD) display.

F7: Manage external displays to enable clone or extended desktop.

F8: Enable or disable the built-in wireless features.

F9: Multifunction depending on installed operating system:

- Windows 7: Open Control Panel.

- Windows 10: Open the Settings window.

F10: For Windows 10, enable or disable the built-in Bluetooth features.

F11: Open a keyboard setting page.

F12: For Windows 10, the key invokes the function defined by yourself. If
no function is defined, press this key to open the Cortana personal
assistant.

To define or change the action for the F12 key, do the following:

1. Open the Lenovo Settings program.

2. Click the input icon.

3. Locate the KEYBOARD: USER-DEFINED KEY section and follow the instructions
on the screen to complete the setting.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Lenovo and jaws

2018-06-15 Thread Valiant8086

Hi.

On my Think Pad t480s, and I believe that all of the modern think pads
are similar so this may be useful to you, home to the right of 12, end
is to the right of home, insert is to the right of end, and then delete
is in the top right next to insert.

page up and page down are located to the left and right of the up arrow
respectively. note also that you can get home and end with fn and left
or right arrow, which given their relational position to the page up and
page down makes good sense. fn up and down arrow don't give you page up
or page down though, which, as page up and page down are already pretty
close to there, doesn't really pose an issue.

To be honest, it's a really odd layout, I prefer the vertical six pack
going down the right end of the keyboard at least on systems with no num
pad.

Also, if you have a print screen button between right alt and right
control, you can remap that to the context menu. You may be able to do
it with the lenovo settings app in control panel or just use sharp keys,
it's a free download and you can get a portable copy of sharp keys, no
need to install it or anything.

lastly, if your fn and control keys are backwards, e.g. fn is in bottom
left and control is to the right of that, and you would prefer to swap
it around to be more consistent with other windows laptops, you can do
that in lenovo vantage under hardware settings and input. You can also
do that in lenovo settings in control panel.

Hope this helps.

A better man than I has been heard to say, "When in doubt, read the
documentation."

So, the real answer here is to do a Google search for the make/model of the
pc and check the user manual. It will tell you what the FN-key combos do on
your specific unit. As you have seen, they differ from unit to unit.

Hi.

My Think Pad t480s follows the first list, my Yoga 2 pro follows the

pads which the Yoga 2 pro is one of, follow the second list, possibly?

f1 mute, f2 volume down, f3 volume up, um, I can't remember the rest. lol.

If it's a think pad, fn and the arrow keys emulate home and end but fn
up and down arrows doesn't work, that's because page up and page down
are to the left and right of the up arrow key anyway. At least on my
T480s that's how it is.

Lenovo can also supply laptop user manuals in a relatively accessible HTML
format on request. I can't find the web page at the moment, but there's a
contact e-mail address for the department that deals with compliance with
accessibility-related regulations and standards. That's the department which
offers the HTML documentation.

Hi David,

Below are 2 different FN key layouts for Lenovo laptops. It'll take a
little experimentation, but I'm sure one of these will be what you need.

#1:
These are the F key default functions. To get the normal F key functions
you need to have FN key locked, or use the FN key with the F keys. FN key +
Escape locks / unlocks the FN key.

F1 = Mute
F2 = Volume Down
F3 = Volume Up
F4 = Microphone Mute
F5 = Screen Brightness Down
F6 = Screen Brightness Up
F7 = External Display
F8 = WiFi On / Off
F9 = Gear Icon
F10 = Magnifying Glass
F11 & F12 = ?

#2:
f1: Mutes/unmutes the sound.

f2: Decreases the volume level.

f3: Increases the volume level.

f4: Closes the currently active window.

f5: Refreshes the desktop or the currently active window.

f6: Enables/disables the touchpad and the touchpad buttons.

f7: Enables/disables airplane mode.  (Wireless)

f8: Switches the active program.

f9: Turns on/off the backlight of the display.

f10: Projects to a connected display.

f11: Decreases display brightness.

f12: Increases display brightness.
