  Wayne,
It depends partly on what you want to do with this software.
Optasia Ministry has 14 popular versions of the Bible in a form
 that
works very well with JAWS on your desktop computer, as well as
  notetakers.
These Bibles are HTML files, that you store on your hard drive,
 and they
run in Internet Explorer. After setting up the Bible as one of
 your
favorites, you will have easy access to links to books, chapters
 and
  verses of the Bible.
You will be able to search for specific words and phrases as
 well.
So if you want a Bible to read, one in which it is easy to find a
passage, these will work well for you.
We have these same 14 versions in a form that is designed for the
 Victor
  Stream Reader.
These same versions are also available in rtf format, for basic
 access
  with any screen reader.
The Optasia Bibles do not have links to other study resources.
However, if you receive the entire Optasia Library, you will be
 able to
make use of a variety of good commentaries, as well as have access
 to
reading material on a variety of topics related to the Bible. We
 have
about 800 books in the library now, and songs and worship
 resources as
  well.
If you want to see the complete listing of the Optasia Library,
 you can
  visit our website:
  www.optasiaministry.org
We send out all our materials free, since the ministry depends on
  donations for its support.
You may email me directly if you have questions, or want a copy of
 a

Re: [JAWS-Users] bible software with Jaws 11

2010-05-30 Thread Brian Lee
Hello Wayne,

There is a good freeware Bible program for the King James version called
Theophilos. Here is a link to the program in my drop box. You can also
visit www.theophilos.com and find the link for downloads.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3951772/theoinst.exe

There are a couple settings I changed in my copy of the Theophilos 3 program

that you might want to change also. Use CTRL+T when in the program to bring

up the settings dialog box. If focus is not in the Bible page tab then

use tab key to move to where the page tabs are and then use right or left

arrow keys to find the Bible tab. Use tab key in the Bible page of the

dialog box and find the checkbox for read by line. If you check the box

then when you have a block of text to be read JAWS will read it a line at a

time when you use the up or down arrow keys. After checking the box use tab

key to move back to the page tabs and use right or left arrow keys to move

to the multimedia page of the dialog box. CTRL+tab doesn't always work to

move between pages. You can then use tab key to the checkbox for playing a

sound on startup and if you don't want the sound played then use spacebar to

remove the checkmark. use tab key to the OK button and press spacebar to

close the dialog box.

The program should start in either the library or Bible page and you can use

the tab key to move to the different lists. Use tab a couple of times and

you will here Bible in the tree view. Use tab key to move to the list of

books of the Bible. You can use first letter navigation to quickly move to

a specific book or use up and down arrow keys. Use tab key to move to the

chapter list after selecting a book and you can use up or down arrow keys or

the first digit of a number to move more quickly to a specific chapter. use

tab key again to move to the verse selection and either use up and down

arrow keys to move to a specific verse or press the first digit of a number

until you get to the verse you want. Use enter key to move to the verse.

Focus will be at the verse you chose. Use normal reading commands to read

the text. Using down arrow will move a line at a time if you made the

change for reading by line in the settings. If you want to get a commentary

for a certain word in a verse then route JAWS to PC cursor using JAWS

key+minus key if using a desktop or JAWS key with left bracket key if using

a laptop. After routing JAWS cursor to the word use a double left mouse

button click. If using a desktop use the slash on the number pad twice

quickly. If using a laptop use JAWS key with the number 8 on the number row

or the keyboard twice quickly. focus will move into a window with

commentary. Turn PC cursor on and use normal navigating and reading in this
window. use escape

key to clear the commentary window and return to the text. F4 can be used

to move to previous window and F5 to next window in the program.

The searching capabilities are also good. You can search by any or all

words or you can search by phrases. CTRL+F brings up the Find dialog box.
Type in the search term and tab to the combo box where you can choose
searching for any word, all words or by phrase. Use Alt+F to start the
search. Use up or down arrow keys in the list of results and press enter
key to move to a specific result.

Here are some of the program's hotkeys:
