Please provide a backtrace of the crash. Without we are not able to
investigate. All we have now is that it crashed somewhere in libX11 which is
not a very helpful information as we use that a few times in KWin and in
libraries.

Maybe check whether coredumpctl caught the crash.

It's not a problem of KWin, but of Plasma providing a dbus service previously
only used in Unity.  Apparently Chrome interprets the availability of that
service as "I'm in Unity" instead of using the XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP. Thus it
removes the title bar as that's what's needed in Unity.

Which shows the problem is in Chrome: they misdetect the desktop.

Unfortunately for further investigation I would have to run it myself. But I
don't have steam or any games and there is no easy way for me to get it as it's

I want to add some more information:

While resizing i observed that also the icons from the right ( not the widget
icons ) breaks, as observed in this screenshot:

But, while resizing the widget looks perfect:

After releasing the mouse button, it resizes again to fit some invisible grid
and breaks again.

Also i observed that this is something that it's happening everywhere, look at

I've also tried deleting the cache and recreating the widget but still no luck.
It's the same situation as before, with some widgets sizes seems to work fine,
but for others it looks pixelated.

That may be so, but remember - in my first post - that I had to run it as
'root' (as it wouldn't work at all as a regular user).  I was simply doing the

Backtrace

I used the instructions here:

With the GDB from MinGW64 from here:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw-w64/files/External%20binary%20packages%20(Win64%20hosted)/gdb/

...to output to the attached file. I think the crash is right at the end of the
file, something to do with OpenGL.

The steps to crash were these:
1) Run Krita
2) Create a new document
3) Open the configuration window (Settings->Configure Krita)
4) Press the OK button.

print it all i get in each field are black bars.
The same form printed under windows 7 is fine

David, in fact I had  the Switch Desktop function enabled. After setting it to
disabled auto-hide works perfectly. Thanks to all for taking the time to look
into this. I love KDE and the Plasma Desktop. Best OS I have ever used.

- The "Resize Window" desktop effect enabled.
- Window border disabled ("No Borders") in Applications Style.

After resizing a window by dragging on the resize handle on either the bottom
left or bottom right corner for the first time, it is not possible to drag the
resize handle any more - while dragging on the top two corners always works.

After disabling the "Resize Window" effect, or enabling border on at least the
bottom end, the problem goes away/

Hello,
Since recently i was using kaos, and i occasionally tried the wayland session
to watch the progresses.

Since i change my graphic card (4950 -> fury), if i log to the wayland session,
i just get a quick black screen and it go back to sddm. Then i move to kde neon
and i install every wayland related packages. I have the same problem if i go
to wayland session.

I tried to look at ksystemlog, and i presume the problem come from this : 
kwin_wayland[5360]: segfault at 968 ip 7f3fe2a954fa sp 7ffe995fca90
error 4 in libX11.so.6.3.0[7f3fe2a6d000+135000]

Also if i log out and kill sddm, wayland session work if i run this command :
kwin_wayland --libinput --xwayland "plasmashell --platform wayland"

Reproducible: Always

When I edit a contact, the location(s) isn't shown. You can add a location and
it will be added (visible as you finished editing). But you can't edit a
location, because it isn't visible while editing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Edit a contact.
2. Go to the location tab.
3. There is no location shown.

Actual Results:  
No location(s) shown.

Expected Results:  
Show location(s).

This worked in previous version 16.08.0.

I would suggest making the comment color a little lighter and highlight all
docblock comments in green instead of gray. Certain tags in doc comments are
already green, why not make everything that color to distinguish doc comments
from normal comments (similar to IntelliJ's Darcula theme)? Tags could then
either be bold, italics or just a little brighter in color. The same could work
for the stuff within angle brackets (instead of unreadable black).

The Breeze Dark Schema has some contrast issues.
Comments are pretty hard to read in general, but with highlighting for the
current line, it becomes extra hard. Additionally, the highlighting of email
addresses (and other stuff between <…>) inside comments is rendered as black
text, making it almost impossible to read.

I added a screenshot demonstrating these contrast issues.

Actuallly, if you open Chrome and go to "chrome://gpu", you will find two
entries:

Window manager | KWin
XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP | KDE

If there is nothing you can do, how does it come, that other window managers
(IceWM) and KWin 5.5 have no such problem?

A workaround that I found, is to remove libunity:
$ sudo apt remove libunity9

version there's following code:

krviewer.cpp:
313 if (editor != "internal editor" && !editor.isEmpty()) {

and both soultions (given string or leaving the field empty) worked for me.

Hmm, debug info would be useful for this one, inferArgumentsFromCall() is a
relatively long and complex function so it's not clear from this trace what
actually happens. If you like, try installing kdevelop from AUR in
RelWithDebInfo mode (if you actually want to use it, I recommend not building
in Debug, it's noticeably more sluggish).

I don't think this is a duplicate, just because it crashes in the same
function. The circumstances are different (reloading file, ...) and the other
bug was confirmed fixed in 4.7.3 by the reporter, while this is still present
in 5.0. I'll reopen this.

Constantly freezes while I'm painting. It freezes within every ten to five min,
and it freezes for about a min, but 95% of the time does not crash as a result
of this freezing. I'm on a Windows 10 PC with the 970m Nvidia GTX graphics
card, 16 gb of ram, and a quad core i7 Skylake processor. When the program
freezes I rarely the computer's processing power go beyond 50% and generally
the computer's processing while in the program is between 12-30%. I'm doing
some heavy painting work in the animation mode working with about three layers,
although these problems happened since I was down to one layer. The freezes
happen under almost any circumstance from general painting, switching between
frames in the animation timeline, or by turning on/off or cycling layers. This
is making working in Krita extremely difficult, especially with an animation
workflow.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Paint in the program, cycle through layers, or change viewed animation
frames for about 10 min worth of work
2.

Actual Results:  
Then it freezes for about 1 min, but only crashes on occasion following the
freeze.

Expected Results:  
The software should not frequently freeze doing basic functions while using so
little CPU, GPU, or RAM.

Most of the delay you see is a delay, not the parser being slow. The point is
that, right now, as soon as the parser starts you need to wait for it to finish
before you can generate a completion list. Thus the delay, and thus changing
the delay based on processor speed doesn't help -- it's meant to match your
typing speed, not the processor.

The parser is slow because parsing C++ correctly is complicated.

This issue has nothing to do with the size of whatever cache you're thinking
about.

Parser must be run automatically after every change. This is obvious.
So I repeat the question: "Why the parser running for kdev-clang is such slow,
even on strong hardware?"
@Sven. You said: "we explicitly added a longer delay for some edit". Is this
delay hard coded? Is this delay can't depend on power of processor? Is not
possible to create bigger cache and hold it in memory? I think IDE is not the
application running couple times a day.

Allow extraction of read-only archives

Currently we use `KFileItemListProperties::supportsWriting()` to check whether
a folder
is read-write and can be used as extract destination, but this function returns
false if the archive is read-only. A read-only archive can still be extracted,
so we need to implement our own check for the writability of parent folders.

That's exactly the point, by delaying the parser a bit longer we get less cases
where completion has to wait for it.

The background parser needs to run automatically after every change, that is
not debatable. We cannot even update highlighting properly without doing that.

i think the parser is required to update the problems maybe, but it shouldnt
have to reparse the whole file just to get the completion for foo->bar(). if
i'm adding to the file in such a way that should just do completion but
shouldnt affect the rest of the file... it should just give me completion
without reparsing.

Indenter Patch

Yes, sure, I can append it here. The patch I uploaded includes the failing unit
tests (because the auto bracket modeline) is ignored and is therefore not ready
for merging yet.

Since I couldn't leave it alone, I also experimented a little more with the C++
indenter. It had some functionality to consume characters to allow some sort of
overwrite mode for brackets. That's pretty useful, but it completely breaks
auto brackets. With a resolution for bug #370716 this should be a feature of
the editor component anyway. So I removed that. It causes one unit test which
tests comma consumption to fail, but not in a way that I would say the new
behavior is buggy. With this consumption feature removed and a few more fixes
to semicolon placement, auto brackets seem to work properly even with the C++
indenter. What do you think?

In recent version of kwin_x11, I ended up disabling vsync. Even when setting up
the max fps to 144, simply enabling tearing prevention caused heavy stuttering
on my screen (you know, 144/60 is not an whole number). It did, however,
prevent tearing.

With tearing prevention disabled, kwin seems to respect the max fps setting.
That makes thing as smooth as my screen can handle, but I get tearing.

Anyone can confirm the issue here?

I'm glad I found this page-- since unredirect disappeared I've been searching
for bug-free, tear-free and lag-free solution to a fullscreen game -on one of
my monitors.

Apparently setting tear prevention to "Never" and (manually editing the conf)
/turning MaxFPS up to 240 in KWin 5.8.1 -while leaving compositing on during
the game solves all three for me.
As a side bonus - Opera scrolling is also tear-free, same for videos..

Oddities I have noticed maybe someone can explain..?
- Fans stay off, powermizer (nvidia) stays on lowest, temperature and kwin cpu
usage is low/ change undetectable- even when moving windows about and scrolling
in Opera.. (Not in game)
- FPS "effect" says 100fps (and kwin consumes 20% cpu on a single core while
fps counter is running) - I guess it's just the highest it can measure.. For
when actually setting maxfps to 100 - massive tearing appear.
- Zero fps loss in game, in fact there was a slight performance GAIN in the
game!? I had expected to lose performance due to the massive blitting needed -
instead performance in game went up about 2-5%.. I tried turning compositor
on/off several times to recheck..

(Game engine is springrts and gpu is gtx970.)

I checked my contacts with Vcard validator

For example there were errors like this:
Mandatory property missing (See RFC 2426 section 5 for details): FN  <- very
often occurred
Invalid date (See RFC 2425 section 5.8.4 for date syntax)

I think that the errors are from contacts which are added long time since this
day. Maybe there are some format modifications, which old data doesn't fit?

Thus I think KDE should follow the standards.

i have seen this issue as well.. my perspective on this is that maybe the
background parser doesnt need to run as often? some things i change i would
much prefer to have the quick completion over parsing.

maybe a hotkey to manually call background parser for the current file and an
option somewhere to reparse the whole project?

As Olivier said, this change was made on purpose, to have a clearer separation
between selecting and editing color schemes.
Yes, that makes this particular use-case less efficient. No, we won't change
that fundamental system back.
Ideas for how to make the scheme editing simpler without sacrificing the clear
separation between selecting and editing a theme (so no, no unsaved "current"
theme) are still welcome, however.
