[Discover] [Bug 389443] New: Ubuntu 17.10, unstable System Settings application

2018-01-25 Thread Frans Oilinki
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389443

Bug ID: 389443
   Summary: Ubuntu 17.10, unstable System Settings application
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.10.5
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: aleix...@kde.org
  Reporter: moili...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: plasma-discover (5.10.5)

Qt Version: 5.9.1
Frameworks Version: 5.38.0
Operating System: Linux 4.13.0-31-lowlatency x86_64
Distribution: Ubuntu 17.10

-- Information about the crash:
Currently, System Settings keep crashing after clicking almost any buttons.
E.g. 1. click Desktop Behavior; 2. click Desktop Effects --> crash. Just
directly clicking on Workspace Theme also leads to a crash.

But e.g. changing settings under Window Management does not seem to lead to a
crash.

Earlier I fetched some themes using the System Settings and activated one.
Though I cannot use System Settings now to check the situation.

Not sure if related, but my screen saver also keep crashing, requiring to
unlock session from virtual console.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=343325

--- Comment #1 from Safa Alfulaij  ---
I was looking into something in KI18n and found out this “Dynamic context”[1].
I think if we use these contexts and allow translators to have as many as they
want, to later on define which one to use in Plasma notifications for example,
that would be much better than a dedicated string for completion, or maybe
incompletion, etc etc.

[gwenview] [Bug 297853] Smooth scroll of thumbnails

2018-01-25 Thread Holger
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=297853

--- Comment #5 from Holger  ---
@Nate

Which version has this been implemented? 17.04.3 is as jumpy as ever. To get
the full effect, just enlarge the thumbnails to 256x256 pixel. Only briefly
touching the scroll wheel will jump 3 rows at a time, which is more than half a
Full-HD monitor. This is far beyond any definition of smooth scrolling.

As a workaround, I use the keyboard, to jump only a single row at a time. This
still isn't smooth, but a lot better than 3 lines.

Maybe you confused this bug with the single line preview bar under the display
of the current picture? There is some kind of smooth scrolling implemented, but
the thumbnail-overview is not fixed. Please reopen.

Not sure this feature makes much sense given the potential for data destruction
of for anyone who doesn't immediately grasp what's going on. And it's pretty
easy to do this anyway: copy-and-paste the file, then rename it to the name of
the file you want to replace.

Or just pull up the integrated terminal pane and do `mv foo bar`.

Are you saying that when you right click and then move the mouse a tiny bit,
the menu disappears? That's odd. Does this happen in any other apps, or just
Dolphin?

Yes, Samba is still the recommended approach. But you don't need to use an
smb:// URL to access a locally-available folder; just navigate there normally.
The Samba share should work find if you try to access it from another machine.

[juk] [Bug 389372] Version 3.12. Crash on startup

2018-01-25 Thread Michael Pyne
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389372

--- Comment #3 from Michael Pyne  ---
According to
https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports#Linux_Mint,
Linux Mint mostly uses Ubuntu packages. So the question is really what the
Ubuntu package name is for juk's debug symbols.

So for that, according to https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juk, the package
name is "juk-dbgsym", so that seems to be what you'd want to install (with
apt-get or otherwise) in order to get better backtraces.

A temporary error condition with SMB makes sense as a cause of the crash,
though that doesn't help too much on narrowing it down. If you're willing to
get a proper backtrace even though JuK is now working for you, then I'll see if
I can fix it.

[plasmashell] [Bug 389028] KDE randomly locks up

bk...@gnu.org changed:

 Resolution|--- |INVALID

--- Comment #5 from bk...@gnu.org ---
I can now confirm it is a nouveau driver issue. By switching to Nvidia, the
desktop has become stable.

However, despite the fact the lockup is triggered by a graphics engine fault
(and you-all can't do much about that), there are some things KDE can do to
make life easier on the victims.

Presumably, I cannot use Ctl-Alt-Shift-F1/PageUp/PageDown because keyboard
events are all delivered to a non-responsive thread. You could add a watchdog
timer thread that would restart KDE after a sufficiently long time. Viz., if
the keyboard events remain untouched for a few seconds, it's likely something
pretty bad is going on.

I can pretty consistently crash okular 4:15.12.3-0ubunt amd64 by just quickly

Suppose you have A/F1.txt and B/F1.txt

Both files are backed by the same inode.

If you move A/F1.txt into directory B, Dolphin pops up a dialog saying:

"The action will overwrite the destination".

Click on "Overwrite".

The dialog disappears then reappears immediately, nothing is "moved".

This goes on forever until you "Cancel".

It is unclear what Dolphin SHOULD do in this case.

Maybe unlink A/F1.txt. Or tell the user that A/F1.txt and B/F1.txt are actually
the same file and it will skip moving the file.

[dolphin] [Bug 389436] New: RFE: Dolphin's "Overwrite Dialog" should indicate whether hashsum of source and target files match

2018-01-25 Thread David Tonhofer

Bug ID: 389436
   Summary: RFE: Dolphin's "Overwrite Dialog" should indicate
whether hashsum of source and target files match
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 17.12.1
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: bugh...@gluino.name
CC: elvis.angelac...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 110122
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=110122=edit
Example of current Dialog generated by Dolphin

When a file named "X" is moved into a folder that already contains a file named
"X", dolphin pops up a dialog notifying the user that "this action will
overwrite the destination". The dialog indicates the size of the source and
target.

Unfortunately, the size may not carry enough information for the user to make
an informed decision. In particular, the size of the two files may be
identical, and the files may still differ. The "Modify Date", although shown,
may be confusing or wrong.

Improvement: Help the user out by indicating that the MD5 sum of left and right
files match (evidently, if the size doens't match, this does not need to be
computed)

MD5 hash is sufficient here because one is not working in a context in which a
weak hash is of relevance. One just want a fast hashing algorithm.

For large files computing the MD5 sum may be expensive. Thus, for files above a
certain size (which should be configurable), the dialog could offer the option
to compute the MD5 sum on demand (by clicking a button) instead of computing it
outright.

The "Apply to All" option would continue to not care about MD5 hashsums of the
files.

This bug affects all KDE4 versions on all Linuxes I use(d) and FreeBSD as well.
So it is not a driver or OS issue.

Please see this Qt thread for detailed description and screenshots:
https://forum.qt.io/topic/86704/qt-resource-overflow-highly-annoying-how-to-fix

Together with the Qt developers we had to find out that it is a KDE issue and
not a Qt problem.
In addition to what I described there, I noticed this time the bug seemed to
appear much earlier after I set the Konsole line buffer in the Konsole profile
settings from 1000 to 5.

This time the bug appeared when there were still 27GB physical memory were
free, so it is not due to lack of available system memory.

I am using bs2b (http://bs2b.sourceforge.net/) as a cross-feed plugin for
hearing with headphones (try it - it's just great!).

Use `pacmd load-module module-ladspa-sink sink_name=crossfeed-CORDA plugin=bs2b
label=bs2b control=650,9.5 master=` to load it.

Once it is loaded, you can drag applications to the new "LADSPA Plugin Bauer
stereophonic-to-binaural" device. However, because virtual output streams are
not shown, you cannot redefine the output device of the plugin. It's possible
to do this using pavucontrol under "Playback" if you enable "Virtual Streams"
or "All Streams".

[kwin] [Bug 389405] When using multiple displays and setting a main display, new windows always open in leftmost one

2018-01-25 Thread Martin Flöser
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389405

--- Comment #3 from Martin Flöser  ---
Unfortunately that's mostly out of our control. I would love to be able to
control it, because it would mean we can do sane things.

But the ICCCM standard describes what a window manager is allowed to do:
"To indicate that the size and position of the window (when a transition from
the Withdrawn state occurs) was specified by the user, the client should set
the USPosition and USSize flags, which allow a window manager to know that the
user specifically asked where the window should be placed or how the window
should be sized and that further interaction is superfluous. To indicate that
it was specified by the client without any user involvement, the client should
set PPosition and PSize ."

The idea is that for a user specified position the window manager does not
"improve" the position. Unfortunately many windows set it although it's not
user specified. We could ignore it, but then we would get bug reports about
windows opening at random position and not at the last one.

With other words: we are in a position where we always lose.

On Wayland the situation is improved, there KWin positions the windows -
always.

[kmail2] [Bug 389427] New: Setup Wizard does not show if TLS will be used

2018-01-25 Thread Alexander Schier
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389427

Bug ID: 389427
   Summary: Setup Wizard does not show if TLS will be used

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: UI
  Assignee: kdepim-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: a...@laxu.de
  Target Milestone: ---

The setup wizard asks first for Name, email and password and later (if you
choose manual IMAP) for a server name.
You can see nowhere if it will use TLS and when it will try to connect for the
first time. This means I do not know if my password may be sent in plaintext.

Please add a clear option
TLS: yes, starttls, starttls (optional), no
where I can be sure that I will use TLS when using "yes" or "starttls".

I guess it defaults to TLS, but I have no idea about its fallback behaviour and
I am not even sure if it doesn't try without TLS. That's a bad thing for
setting up an email account.

Use a wrong servername for the mail server in the setup wizard or the
"accounts" settings.

Then you get a "certificate error" message with "details, cancel, continue"
buttons.
When clicking "cancel", the box reopens instantly with a second error message
box for "login failed, tls negotiation failed" in the background. Closing the
second one is not possible before you closed the first one, which reopens
quickly.

The only option to get back to the program is to keep ESC pressed until first
the TLS error message closes and then the login error message.

[krita] [Bug 389425] New: Lost drawing as save file didn't work

2018-01-25 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389425

Bug ID: 389425
   Summary: Lost drawing as save file didn't work
   Product: krita
   Version: 3.3.2
  Platform: Other
OS: MS Windows
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: File formats
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: annavictor...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 110118
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=110118=edit
A picture of how the file was saved.

I drew a picture of a cuttlefish and wasn't finished so I saved it to come back
to later. It said it saved and everything. However when I went to open it
later, it had saved as an empty file. This has happened several times in the
past. Is there anyway to get my drawing back and fix this?

It'd then be helpful if there were an option to configure new windows not to
always open in the leftmost screen. It's quite common to use two screens
together and not everyone wants the left one to be the main one.

[kdevelop] [Bug 389424] New: [Wish] Give a hint to the debugger how you want to view a variable and custom views

2018-01-25 Thread Staffan Palmroos
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=389424

Bug ID: 389424
   Summary: [Wish] Give a hint to the debugger how you want to
view a variable and custom views
   Product: kdevelop
   Version: 5.2.1
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: CPP Debugger
  Assignee: kdevelop-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: spalmr...@gmail.com
CC: niko.s...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

I think it would be useful if I could put a hint in my code how I want to view
a variable in the debugger instead of having to manually change it every time I
debug.

Something like:

int func() {
// Show this variable as 'hex' by default
/// kdbg(format:hex)
int a1 = 0x20;

// Show this variable as 'binary' by default, filling the left side with
0's
/// kdbg(format:bin,fill:'0')
int a2 = 127;

// Show this float variable with no exponent but with 9 significant digits
/// kdbg(notation:noexp,digits:9)
float a3 = 0.04;

...
}

I've added a couple other bits of functionality here too such as 0-filling and
different formats for float variables. This can be ignored of course.

Expanding this a bit more, I would like to be able to write custom views of
variables in the debugger, for example being able to view matrices in an actual
matrix view. Then this notification mechanism could be used to tell the
debugger when to use this custom view. Example:

#include

void render() {

/// kdbg(format:glm-matrix4)
glm::mat4 projection = GetProjectionMatrix();

/// kdbg(format:glm-vec3)
glm::vec3 direction = GetDirection();

...
}
