[kwin] [Bug 443757] Please bring back cover switch effect

2022-02-13 Thread Josesk Volpe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443757

New requests for the next update for this replacement:

* Bring back reflections
* Remove the borders on the selected task
* Replace the blurred grey background to the shaded background
* Add starting and ending animations
* Fix the glitchy movement when quick-switching tasks
* Make task windows bigger

To let users to optionally give a breeze minimalist look on this effect, it
could add an option on the task-switch settings to remove reflections and
shaded background. Task switchers are configurable.

[kwin] [Bug 438883] Re-implement Desktop Cube effect with modern effects API

2022-02-13 Thread Josesk Volpe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=438883

I tried to replace Kwin with Compiz recently to bring back this effect, but
then i gave up since i've knew from Arch Wiki Compiz is incompatible with
Plasma because of the window decoration engine
I would really appreciate to have this feature re-implemented or replaced
Since i have already exceeded my 1 vote limit (yeah, 1 vote, really, ¿why can't
i vote for 2 bugs?) because of bug 443757 that's not really solved since Cover
Switch and Flip Switch replacements, although reasonable and somewhat
acceptable, are very poor, i'm only adding me to CC list

Just tested it. The new effect is nicer than not having anything but it's in no
way a functional equivalent of the previous effect.

I request the previous effect to be reinstated or the bug to be reopened until
a better replacement is contributed. I appreciate the effort made so far.

[kwin] [Bug 443757] Please bring back cover switch effect

> Sorry if a bit negative, hope others like it but I won't be using it.

Yeah, i agree
That's a reasonable replacement for me. And it's way easier for them to
maintain though
One of the reasons i used this is that i like skeuomorphism and detailed
desktops, so i also miss other effects like the cube desktop switch when they
got removed, and removing reflections made it feel very incomplete for me,
basically not a upgrade
Not having the opening animation also made it feel incomplete, and having the
tasks going like teleporting instead of moving when i hold Tab down makes it
feels glitcy (they move when i single-press Tab though)
This replacement was needed ans it's cool that we have it instead of losing
that option, but it was mostly a downgrade and it doesn't gets on the feet of
the older one that got removed.
I give it 5/10, well, better than nothing.

Since i manually updated the switchers on the latest Plasma release, they have
got broken and somehow downgrading them did not solve this, so i'm waiting for
the next Plasma release on Manjaro that'll bring these replacements.

OK, just happened again on resume. Lots of lag. Was able to get ksysguard open
via konsole (which was responsive) and take two screen shots showing
plasmashell just... growing in memory usage pretty quickly. It was also pegging
1 cpu 100% (4% cpu usage, with 12 cores/24 threads.

I would definitely say a pretty crazy memory leak.

Maybe it's better to implement epub support yourself then using a library?
I found a great open source reader which could be used to look at the code.
The reader supports many ebook formats and respects all the standards of those
formats

https://www.edrlab.org/software/thorium-reader/

I hope you want go add epub support. It would be a great new feature book
collectors!

[tellico] [Bug 450192] New: drag and drop: epub format support

2022-02-13 Thread Jessica
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450192

Bug ID: 450192
Summary: drag and drop: epub format support
   Product: tellico
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Microsoft Windows
OS: Microsoft Windows
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

  Assignee: ro...@periapsis.org
  Reporter: jess.jones.unitedking...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Hi

I read in the handbook of tellico

"Dragging data files to the main Tellico window and dropping them will import
the files, just as if the import command was made from the menus. Drag and drop
works for the following file formats: Tellico, Bibtex, RIS, and PDF. Importing
multiple files at once is also supported."

Since the EPUB format is widely used and can be used for a book collection, I
would like to request support for this format for drag and drop.

Maybe somewhere an open source cross platform library exists that can be used
for supporting many ebook formats all at once in an easy way?

Thanks for this great program!

Jessica

Just discovered that if we restart the pc the image changes, which should mean
calling the api again will result in a different picture. It's not everytime
one can restart their pc especially whilst working on time intensive tasks.
There could be a limit to the number of times you can do skip to another to
prevent abuse.

Can we include the ```HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS_WITH_LIB OR
HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS64_WITH_LIB``` part in 5.1.0 and possibly also 5.0.x? Currently
as I see, this patch only exists in master branch.
The reason is not clang specific, but on platforms like riscv that have builtin
64bits atomics while lacks anything smaller, HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS_WITHOUT_LIB is
FALSE and HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS64_WITHOUT_LIB is TRUE. So the condition ``` if(NOT
HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS_WITHOUT_LIB) if(NOT HAVE_CXX_ATOMICS64_WITHOUT_LIB)``` still
doesn't link atomic though checkatomic.cmake sets these value correctly.

False, it's not happening on archlinux with master (the issue I saw was
something else), so you might be seeing the issue in maliit.

Can you please check with coredumpctl to see that maliit-keyboard isn't
crashing for you?

I'm seeing it in KDE Neon and archlinux (running master).

[kate] [Bug 450190] New: The LSP server is started once per window

2022-02-13 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450190

Bug ID: 450190
Summary: The LSP server is started once per window
   Product: kate
   Version: 21.12.2
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kwrite-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: m_loui...@yahoo.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

When two windows are open, each starts its own LSP server. This results in a
waste of resources and duplicated work. RAM usage is especially bad since for
large code bases, clang-format easily reaches 1GB per instance.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a file type with LSP support (and, obviously, the LSP plugin enabled).
I use clang-format with C++.
2. Open a new window (View > New window)
3. Open your task manager and count the number of LSP server instances

OBSERVED RESULT

There are as many LSP servers as there are windows open.

EXPECTED RESULT

A single LSP server is spawned.

Operating System: Linux 5.3.18-150300.59.49-default x86_64
Windowing system: X11
Distribution: "openSUSE Leap 15.3"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

After calling ark 20.04.2 from a root shell in OpenSuse Leap 15.3-2, I had
selected a bunch of files and directories, recursively resulting in somewhat
over a miliion files to be compressed into the archive. The crash happened when
the progress box was present for some minutes but before or when it should
start showing a percentage. The archive has not been created at all.

Sorry for beeing so unspecific, but If you feel this case should be tracked
down, please feel free to ask me questions the answers to which might help you
in finding the issue. I have called the same job again one time with the same
result.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Ran into the same issue. In addition to the truncated percentage numbers, the
tooltip (with a list of CPU load percentages) doesn't fit on screen vertically
for a 96-thread CPU.

[kwin] [Bug 443757] Please bring back cover switch effect

2022-02-13 Thread Robin Bankhead
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=443757

Have just updated to 5.24 and have to be honest, this is not a very good
replacement.

- Windows are smaller
- Thick blue border around centred window
- No reflections
- Opaque grey background instead of wallpaper shaded
- Transition animation is too slow but jerky at start and end

The smoothness and visual appeal of the old cover switch is basically all gone.
Aesthetically none of the ways this has changed are appealing to me. Sorry if a
bit negative, hope others like it but I won't be using it.

[plasmashell] [Bug 450186] New: Cannot restore stopped activities

2022-02-13 Thread Piotr Mierzwinski
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=450186

Bug ID: 450186
   Summary: Cannot restore stopped activities
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.24.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Activity Switcher
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: piotr.mierzwin...@gmail.com
CC: ivan.cu...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY
I don't understand why is present option to stop activity if there is not
possibility to start it again, or I cannot find it. I found only button to
delete it.

In System Settings also is missing option to start, previously stopped Activity
(is present only button to delete). Here, on the list there is not even
possible to distinguish which activity is stopped and which not.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add couple activities, let it be 4
2. stop 2 of them
3. Try to start them again

OBSERVED RESULT
is not possible to start again stopped activity

EXPECTED RESULT
would be nice to user be able start, stopped activity

SUMMARY
> The new versions of the Clipboard and Network widgets can now be navigated
> with just your keyboard.

I opened Clipboard and I hovered my mouse the first item, now using arrows Up
and Down I was able to navigate in list, great. Only when I press Tab this
stopped work (I needed to close and open again the Clipboard to to able to
navigate again). Seems focus went somewhere and didn't want to back. When I
pressed Tab couple time I was able to navigate by keyboard again. I use Plasma
Style calling: "Plasma Relax" and here there is not showing any frame on
buttons present in top of Clipboard widget when I press Tab.
If I closed Clipboard and opened it again, in Search field cursor didn't blink,
whereas I expected this, only I could still navigate by keyboard (Del removed
entry) on list. Seems close and oped doesn't reset it.

When I pressed arrow Right (cursors was blinking in Search field), then all
disappeared, but fortunately arrow Left made that all back.

I don't know if I can invoke any option by any shortcut for clipboard entry,
because there is no any information about that in Clipboard widget, even in
tool tip when I hover proper button there is no shown any shortcut, so how can
I to find out if this is possible?
