Understandable, thanks for handling the issue.

>Debian's packagers should maybe consider sticking to LTS versions in the

That wouldn't make a difference, as Stable precludes updating packages at all,
unless it's a CVE patch. So even if Stable shipped with a LTS version of
Plasma, it still wouldn't get updated.

Thank you! Didn’t know there was that other find bar. I guess the problem isn’t
the lack of the feature, it’s just the discoverability of the feature for me,
and the perhaps redundancy of having two bars with overlapping features.

2022-03-01 Thread francaco

Bug ID: 451021
Summary: WHISHLIST / Feature request: Make dolphin folder and
files icons show little squares to open such
folder/file in the desired alternative application
   Product: dolphin
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: view-engine: general
  Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: franco...@protonmail.com
CC: kfm-de...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 147232
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=147232=edit
Hovering over a folder in Dolphin

SUMMARY

It is a common scenario to open fodlers or certain file types with more than
one application. i.e.: Opening images with gwenview but sometimes also with
GIMP and/or Inkscape, opening scripts/code with Kwrite but also with Kate
and/or VScode, and so on.
So, for cases where people find themselves in this use case a lot of times, it
would be a benefit to shorten the time to select the application(s) with which
to open files, avoiding opening the context menu and the Open with... submenu.
This alternative would not show every option, but the most used or a selection
for every file type.

The alternative / Feature request: Make dolphin folder and files icons in the
folder view show little squares to open such folder/file in the desired
alternative application. This squares would be of similar appearance, behaviour
and size of the already existing select/unselect square icons. So they would
show up when hovering the cursor over the folder/file icon and would highlight
when hovering the cursor over them. Clicking on the folder/file icon like usual
would open it with the default application... the squares are for the
alternative apps.

Clicking on this little squares would open the respective file/folder using the
selected application.

This feature should look like the images attached.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open Dolphin
2. Move the cursor over any file or folder

OBSERVED RESULT

Three little squares with app icons inside should appear on the bottom-right
corner of the hovered folder/file.

EXPECTED RESULT

Clicking on any of these icons should open the hovered file/folder using the
application that the little icon represented.

Is there any chance that 5.24 "fixing" this issue caused a new issue?

[plasmashell] [Bug 451020] New: [Wayland] Context menu closes after tooltip fades away - Happens to several widgets placed on the desktop

2022-03-01 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451020

Bug ID: 451020
Summary: [Wayland] Context menu closes after tooltip fades away
- Happens to several widgets placed on the desktop
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: master
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: guimarcalsi...@gmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

After the tooltip appears, if you right-click in some widgets, the context menu
disappears as soon as the tooltip fades away. Here are the affected widgets:

Activity Pager
Activity Manager
Trash
Lock/Logout
Minimize All Windows
Show Desktop
Quick Share
Quicklaunch
Pager

Looks very similar to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=417939

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add one of the widgets above to the desktop (not a panel)
2. Hover the mouse until the tooltip appears
3. Right-click

OBSERVED RESULT

Context menu closes itself when the tooltip disappears

EXPECTED RESULT

It should do the same that happens with the other widgets: Right-clicking
closes the tooltip first and then shows the context menu.

After updating to KDE 5.24.2 on openSUSE Tumbleweed snapshot 20220227 I would
carefully say that the issue has been resolved. I tested multiple times to
start my VMs, restarted 3 times, tried the same again, plasmashell did not
crash this time.
I just wonder why there is no "solved" or merge request thingy in here, or does
that appear later? The other duplicates are also still open.

I want to add that other KDE applications (KATE, Okteta, Okular) run fine, so

journalctl when suspending with KDE 5.24

Notice there's a 3-minute gap in the log? That's how long I waited while the
system was "suspended". I couldn't wake it up until I used the laptop's
keyboard to "wake up" the system. (USB mouse and keyboard did not work.)

Yes, during that 3-minute period, the laptop got REALLY HOT, since the fans
stopped, but apparently the CPU was still cooking.

This doesn't happen with KDE 5.23 (doesn't matter which kernel, nor which
version of upower.)

[kde] [Bug 451018] New: Slack users on KDE Plasma unable to open workspace in desktop app via Chromium based browsers

2022-03-01 Thread Trish
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=451018

Bug ID: 451018
Summary: Slack users on KDE Plasma unable to open workspace in
desktop app via Chromium based browsers
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ptr...@slack-corp.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
upper case letters of the encoded ID in the protocol link for signing into a
Slack workspace are being incorrectly set to lowercase when using Chromium
based browsers (e.g., Chrome Brave (Version 1.33.106, Chromium: 96.0.4664.110
(Official Build)))

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install slack desktop app
2. Install a chromium based browser and set it as the default browser
3. Launch Slack and sign in
4. Focus is switched to the default browser
5. user signs in and focus switches back to the slack desktop app

OBSERVED RESULT
Focus transfer back to the desktop app but the user is not signed in to slack
in the desktop app. We have determined this is caused by the encoded ID being
converted to lowercase.

EXPECTED RESULT
The token from the browser is accepted by the desktop app and the user is
signed into their workspace in the Slack desktop app

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 20.04.4, Fedora 35
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.18.8
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.68.0
Qt Version: 5.12.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
the encoded value/token in the browser is uppercase, but at some point, it is
converted to lowercase which is not accepted by the desktop app. Firefox does
not convert the encoded id to lowercase. This only happens on KDE Plasma using
Chromium based browsers and not on any other Desktop Environment.

We found an issue filed against the cli-tools for kde-open5 which might be
similar but we aren't sure (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=429408)

[plasmashell] [Bug 443697] KDE does not respect "primary" screen settings when launching applications and using multiple screens

Nate Graham changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|--- |FIXED
 Status|REPORTED|RESOLVED
   Version Fixed In||5.24

In general apps don't respect the primary screen setting when launching.
However, on X11, it is up to the app, so some apps will, and some apps won't.
In addition, some apps specify a manual location to be launched at,
irrespective of which screen is the primary one. It's a mess, and it's not
easily fixable. But generally, issues here are bugs in apps themselves.

On Wayland, or on X11 for apps that don't specifically request a location to
launch at, apps will be launched at a location of the window manager's
choosing. Issues here are bugs in KWin.

It seems like the originally-reported issue is fixed now, so let's close the
bug before it turns into a grab-bag of people reporting random unrelated
multi-monitor issues. For people still experiencing different issues, please
file new bug reports. Thanks!

I believe I'm experiencing something similar with a USB keyboard. This appears
to happen after a suspend/resume because all the USB devices are re-detected,
but also happens whenever I plugin in a keyboard. The laptop keyboard also
stops working when a USB keyboard is plugged in. Switching to virtual console
and back works with both keyboards while plasma is hung. Keyboard events seem
to buffer, because after some period of time (1m?), the keyboard starts working
again and all of the keypresses that were pressed while frozen all replay at
once, followed by a brief pause and an error `kded5[1067]:
org.kde.kcm_keyboard: Failed with return code: 1`. As mentioned in this post,
disabling the keyboard background service and re-plugging the USB keyboard
works as expected. Intel graphics, i915 chipset. If this is unrelated, let me
know and I can file a new issue. This has been quite a chore to track down,
but worth creating a bugs account for.

They say that to filter out bug reports by people using distros that heavily
patch their kernels and curate their kernel module selection, because
oftentimes those users are experiencing bugs that have already been fixed or
that require a non-default kernel module.

Arch doesn't really do that though, and this issue is clearly right there in
the kernel code (it's even commented), so I'd say it's fine to file a report on
the kernel bug tracker itself.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I plan to have the following workflow:

1- select the region
2- once the mouse is released
  2.1- create the note
  2.2- open inline note editor
3- the user can enter the text like when it is editing an inline note
4- the user might close the editor using ESC

I attached some screenshots that I hope will give a better idea of this
workflow.

An effect of this change would be that the area initially chosen by the user
would define the size of the note.
Currently, Okular readjusts the area of the note depending on the size of the
text entered, but this might lead the note to hide something that might be
important for the user.
In the example attached, the idea is that the user could define the note by the
side of the title, which currently covers the title, in the new workflow that
would not happen.

Thanks for the hard work. Okular is my favorite way of taking notes.
Cheers,

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open the attached document
2. On the bottom of the second page there is a "Speichern" (save) Button

I observed this behaviour on Windows using the latest okular version from
the windows store. Unfortunately i cannot test with a linux version, because i
am running Kubuntu 20.4 which
contains a quite old okular, but there it does not work as well.
The same document contains also a print button which does not work, but this
has been fixed lately (see https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=448791)

OBSERVED RESULT
=> nothing happens..

EXPECTED RESULT
=> save dialog should be opened -> at least i can observe this behaviour with
adobe acrobat

[plasmashell] [Bug 450980] KDE 5.24 breaks suspend to RAM (really badly); reverting to 5.23 resolves it

Keep in mind when this bug occurs, my fans STOP. Monitor shut off (no signal).
However, for some reason my CPU is heating up rapidly, since it's somehow still
running, but without the cooling of the fans. I can attach a journalctl as
well, but it appears to believe the suspend was successful.

>From an end-user perspective, you can use the KDevelop AppImage from our

somehow. It will of course not support Python 3.10 syntax, so if you require
that, you are out of luck for now.

Unfortunately Python completely removed the Parser module we were using from
their public API, so there is no easy fix for this issue.

The most realistic option at this point is probably to write a Python snippet
which uses the "ast" module to do the parsing (which is effectively exactly the
same) and serializes the result somehow, e.g. into an XML or ProtocolBuffer
stream. Then we can execute this snippet from C++ code (this works without
creating a process using Python's C API) and deserialize it, giving us the same
data structure as before.
