[plasmashell] [Bug 455008] New: Window positions are not restored on login

2022-06-07 Thread Rolf Eike Beer
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455008

Bug ID: 455008
Summary: Window positions are not restored on login
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.24.90
  Platform: openSUSE RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: k...@opensource.sf-tec.de
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

Since I upgraded my openSUSE 15.3 to Plasma 5.24.90 the positions of the
applications open at logout are not saved/restored anymore. Happens all the
time.

My Laptop runs Plasma 5.24.5 on Tumbleweed and does not show this problem.

--- Comment #84 from Rolf Eike Beer ---
Just my 2 cents… as in comment#56 the symptom for me is that the desktop on one
of my 2 monitors switches from wallpaper to folder mode. When I then set it
back the other monitor immediately switches to folder mode. And then the same
happens on the other activity. The panel stays in place.

Out of curiosity: I don't have a [Containments][1] section, only
[Containments][3], [Containments][69], [Containments][70], [Containments][71],
[Containments][72], [Containments][8], and [Containments16Appletsts][6] (in
that order).

[applets/devicenotifier] Prevent empty or duplicated actions in expanded view

Unfortunately, the list<> basic QML type is too primitive, it does not
even expose any kind of remove() functionality, so the only supported
way is to create a new list and assign it instead.

This fixes the bug when there may appear multiple empty or duplicating
actions in the expanded view due to the fact they they were only added
to but never cleaned up / removed from the list of contextual actions.

Remapping/disabling hardware or virtual software buttons is kind of out of
scope, but you can do it. I used to re-map Libinput's virtual buttons using
xinput to do the same thing IIRC.

FWIW if leaving your thumb on the bottom of your touchpad moves the cursor or
starts a two-finger scroll, that's a bug in Libinput and you should report it
at https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/libinput/libinput/-/issues/. It's supposed to
filter out a lazy thumb on the touchpad, and this works for me with my
touchpad.

Hi, thank for the quick fix!
However, now other option (HSV, HSL, HSI) are also being cut off.

In 'General > Miscellaneous' tab ,there's a scroll bar to keep the space, maybe
the Color Selector Setting can also have that?

[frameworks-kded] [Bug 455004] New: X11 too many clients

2022-06-07 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455004

Bug ID: 455004
   Summary: X11 too many clients
   Product: frameworks-kded
   Version: 5.94.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: fa...@kde.org
  Reporter: jerry...@gmail.com
CC: kdelibs-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

FYI: Not that familiar with all this... entirely possible this is user error or
me interpreting it wrong.

SUMMARY
Socket is opened every time monitor turns on and never closes. I had ~180
sockets owned by kded5 at one point, preventing other applications from working
properly. They start at 5 sockets on boot, and increases by 6 every time I
restart my monitors.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Power off monitor
2. Power on monitor
3. Check sockets using command: sudo ss -x src "*/tmp/.X11-unix/*" | grep -Eo
"[0-9]+\s*$" | while read port; do sudo ss -p -x | grep -w $port | grep -v
X11-unix ; done | grep -Eo '".+"' | sort | uniq -c | sort -rn

OBSERVED RESULT
Number of open sockets to X increase by 6.

EXPECTED RESULT
I don't know. It shouldn't just be strictly increasing though, since at some
point I will run out.

[systemsettings] [Bug 441668] Please make middle-click pasting optional

ryantg changed:

I was really hoping for a setting to disable middle-click altogether. Even with
paste disabled, middle click still has weird outcomes, like middle clicking on
a firefox tab closes that tab.

Currently you can set the touchpad to left or right-handed (which swaps the
left/right buttons while keeping middle click in place), or you can set right
click to "Press bottom-right corner" (which, of course, is actually the bottom
left corner when in left handed mode) or "Press anywhere with two fingers").
The latter disables middle click on the touchpad, which is cool, but it also
makes it so the mouse moves around when you rest your thumb on the bottom of
the touchpad.

In conclusion, disabling middle click paste is cool, but where is the option to
disable middle click completely (and choose how you want the middle area
mapped)? I would prefer the middle area to be a left click, with only the
corner used for right click.

[kde] [Bug 455003] New: Mouse pointer speed resets after boot/reboot

2022-06-07 Thread Charles
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455003

Bug ID: 455003
Summary: Mouse pointer speed resets after boot/reboot
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: carlos75...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Pointer speed in KDE is resetting every time I reboot. I set the mouse speed in
the System Settings → Input Devices → Pointer speed to the value I want (6th
bar) → Hit “Apply” and everything is great.

After reboot, the mouse is much faster. When I go into the settings, they don’t
seem to be changed. Pointer speed is still on the 6th bar. To fix it, I have to
move it to a different value, hit apply, move it back to the one I want and hit
apply again.

Mouse used:

1. Razer Viper Ultimate (wireless mouse with its own USB dongle).
2. Logitech M185: budget wireless mouse (also with its own dongle)
2. Steelseries Sensei 310: regular wired mouse

The bug occurs with all models above, specifically on the wireless ones, but it
happens randomly on the wired mouse (when it does, first both left and right
mouse buttons stop working. After unplug and plugging the mouse, the buttons
works again, but pointer speed has been altered to some default speed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Set desired pointer speed
2. Reboot the system
3. Check if speed has been altered.

OBSERVED RESULT

Pointer speed is altered even though the selected value (6th bar, for instance)
hasn't changed, apparently.

EXPECTED RESULT

Pointer speed should remain the same after boot or reboot

Example of copying and pasting not working in Firefox 101 body or address bar,
Wayland Plasma 5.24.90

I managed to capture on this video Firefox 101 not copying to clipboard page
body data (occurs sporadically) nor address bar data (occurs all the time).
With the page body data I just get "timeout reading from pipe" in all fields in
the clipboard tab of the Kwin debug console. With the address bar data all the
fields in the clipboard tab of the debug console are blank.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean for it not to be "completely mad" for this to
happen, though it sure makes using Wayland infuriating!

CASIO COMPUTER CO.,LTD
CASIO COMPUTER CO.,LTD.
Minolta Co., Ltd.

shortenedMakeInfo should strip " COMPUTER CO.,LTD" and " COMPUTER CO.,LTD." to
shorten the name simply "CASIO" and " Co., Ltd." to shorten the name to
"Minolta"

[Discover] [Bug 455000] New: Discover's update process hangs when non-native packages (Flatpaks, add-ons) are updated

2022-06-07 Thread Riccardo Robecchi
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455000

Bug ID: 455000
Summary: Discover's update process hangs when non-native
packages (Flatpaks, add-ons) are updated
   Product: Discover
   Version: 5.24.5
  Platform: Neon Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: discover
  Assignee: lei...@leinir.dk
  Reporter: sephiroth...@hotmail.it
CC: aleix...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
On multiple computers of mine, updating packages as well as other non-package
elements like Flatpaks and add-ons (themes, icons...) leads to the update
process of the packages getting stuck. To be more specific, it is the UI that
gets stuck, while the actual update process goes on behind the scenes and is
actually completed eventually (the dpkg process, which takes care of installing
the packages, is not there).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update both packages and non-packages, like add-ons
2. Wait for the process to finish

OBSERVED RESULT
The process never finishes according to the UI.

EXPECTED RESULT
The UI correctly informs the user that the update process has completed.

System Journal Log

This problem seems to have been fixed in my machine(openSUSE Krypton repo
22-06-05), But I noticed, that if I use the window-thumbnail repeatedly(As I
did in the videos), causing massive memory leaks in the kwin_wayland process,
especially once a video is playing(MPV(Wayland), VLC(Xwayland) and
Chrome(Wayland)) the kwin_wayland memory usage rising up to 1.4GB and finally,
the Pipewire completely stop(includes Audio devices and window thumbnail
feature) and the attached messages logged on system journal, And then sometimes
after a few moments and sometimes when a video is playing, after stopping the
video or closing the player, everything goes back to normal and the Pipewire
start to working again; And I have no idea if these two issues are related or
no, Or is it a plasma problem at all or is it related to the Pipewire? Also,
I've never repeatedly used window-thumbnail like this since video recording,
and I do not know exactly when this problem started.

The shorten/simplified name, rather that displaying inconsistent verbose values
for the Camera maker does seem like a nice feature, especially for the values
displayed in Digikam's "Properies" pane. Flickr's Camera Finder comes to mind:

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

 Component: kcm_mouse
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org

SUMMARY
I always have mouse acceleration off, however whenever I re/connect a mouse, or
restart my machine, acceleration gets turned back on. The setting visually
remains set to what I left it as, but acceleration itself is definitely on, and
can be turned off by visually toggling it on and back off. This only happens on
X11, when using plasma's wayland backend, it works fine.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect a mouse
2. Turn off pointer acceleration
3. Unplug the mouse and plug it back in, or restart the machine

OBSERVED RESULT
Acceleration is on, contradicting what I set it to

EXPECTED RESULT
Acceleration is set to what I set it to

[NeoChat] [Bug 454996] New: NeoChat freezing/crashing when having a ton of room windows open.

2022-06-07 Thread Miepee

Bug ID: 454996
Summary: NeoChat freezing/crashing when having a ton of room
windows open.

Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When having a ton of room windows open (500+) NeoChat will start consuming a
lot of memory and start freezing/crashing.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start spamming the "Open room in new window" button a few hundred times.

OBSERVED RESULT
After about 250 or so new windows, neochat will start consuming about 5GB of
RAM, and after a few more hundred windows will start to become unresponsive and
in rare occasions crash. Needs to be killed via task manager, as it otherwise
won't respond to close signals.

EXPECTED RESULT
Neither become unresponsive, nor crash

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I sadly achieved the crash only once, in all other circumstances, NC simply
froze.

I found this kinda similar Gnome bug, which they fixed:

I don't know if it's useful. It might have been fixed by accident, since no
commit is mentioned.

[plasmashell] [Bug 454749] Under Wayland Dialog Popups appear in random places

2022-06-07 Thread Eric Mesa
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454749

The two that stand out to me because it kept happening are in Kontact and
Calibre.

I'll focus on Kontact since that's actually part of KDE, but I'll mention
Calibre at the end as a further example.

With the Kmail part of of Kontact, I drag emails into folders. Seemed to happen
roughly every 2nd time. I drag the email to the folder and the box that says
"Move here", "Copy here ", and "Cancel" will sometimes appear where it should -
next to the folder I'm dragging the email into. Other times it would appear at
some random place within the Kontact window.

With Calibre (ebook management software) under the edit book dialog, if I'm
adding authors, it has a little thing that appears below with suggestions of
authors already in the database. But in Kwayland it was randomly somewhere else
on the Calibre window.

[systemsettings] [Bug 454991] New: Language KCM sets wrong language variable for European Portuguese (pt_PT)

2022-06-07 Thread Eduardo Correia
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=454991

Bug ID: 454991
Summary: Language KCM sets wrong language variable for European
Portuguese (pt_PT)
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.24.90
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: kcm_language
  Assignee: h...@kde.org
  Reporter: eduardosare...@gmail.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When we add "European Portuguese" language to KDE language settings, it
correctly adds it but sets it wrong in the LANGUAGE varibles. After running
"locale" in the terminal, the "LANGUAGE" variable is set to "pt" instead of the
correct "pt_PT". Having just "pt" makes all apps that follow the system
language to ignore that setting and fall back to the next configured language,
or Brazilian Portuguese (it's VERY different from European Portuguese in many
places and words, so please don't mix these two). This is because some apps
read "pt" as being equal to "pt_BR". But all apps use European Portuguese
correctly when "pt_PT" is used instead.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open System Settings, go to Language, add "European Portuguese" as the main
language, apply.
2. Apps that follow the system's language, like any Chromium-based browser, are
displayed in Brazilian Portuguese instead.
3. As an example, do "sudo nano ~/.config/plasma-localerc" and you can confirm
LANGUAGE under "Translations" is set to "pt" instead of "pt_PT".
4. Change this file manually to "pt_PT", save it, reload plasma (logout and log
back in)
5. All apps are correctly shown in European Portuguese.

6. Bonus, small related bug: After setting up "pt_PT" manually in this file,
Language KCM complaints about having an invalid language configured and
completely replaces our custom configuration if we click "Apply". It rewrites
that config file with "pt" again.

OBSERVED RESULT
Apps are shown in Brazilian Portuguese (pt OR pt_BR)

EXPECTED RESULT
Apps should be shown in European Portuguese (pt_PT)

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Kubuntu 22.04
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0
Qt Version: 5.15.3

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
This bug was present for many years now, but I never really understood why
(never cared too much about it), until now. Happens on any distro, but only
with KDE.

Ah, now the problem is clear. We shorten the camera manufacturer names because
some manufacturers have long names (Co. Ltd. etc.). For me, NIKON without
CORPORATION is found first in the DB, so it works. Hmm we'll probably have to
allow the full name for the list. A LIKE search wasn't really good either, I
remember.
