[systemsettings] [Bug 468231] Contradictory touchpad settings for right click two-finger vs. pressing bottom-right corner of touchpad

2023-04-10 Thread Dan Dascalescu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468231

Dan Dascalescu changed:

   What|Removed |Added

Version|5.24.7 |5.27.4

What confused me is that on one hand (#460102) it's impossible to right click
both via pressing the bottom-right corner and with a two-finger tap, and on the
other if you want to right click, there seem to be two different ways to do so
(indicated in the screenshot): "Two-finger tap" and 'Press bottom-right
corner".

In the meantime I've moved to Fedora 37 + Plasma 5.27.4, and I can in fact
activate the right click action in both ways mentioned above, with the settings
from the screenshot.

So I have all the functionality I need now, and I just think the language of
the right click option could be clarified by having the "Right click" option
should be only one checkbox, "Right click also by pressing in the bottom-right
corner".

DESCRIPTION

When applications are maximized the taskbar often looks strange because it's

There should be a setting to deactivate the opacity, for example in the panel
for the extended settings we got on right click, edit mode, more options.

SUMMARY
After a recent update, the sound completely stops working. With the help of a
user here:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/742445/audio-stopped-working-after-a-system-update/742530#742530,

we narrowed it down to a problem with the ALSA drivers on the Linux kernel.

The problematic kernel number is 5.19.0-38, and downgrading to 5.15.0-69 fixes
the problem.

[Spectacle] [Bug 468375] New: Usability suggestion: After taking a screenshot, open annotations

2023-04-10 Thread Dan Dascalescu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468375

Bug ID: 468375
Summary: Usability suggestion: After taking a screenshot, open
annotations
Classification: Applications
   Product: Spectacle
   Version: 22.12.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com
  Reporter: ddascalescu+...@gmail.com
CC: k...@david-redondo.de, m...@baloneygeek.com
Depends on: 468369
  Target Milestone: ---

I'd like to make a usability suggestion inspired from Flameshot. I believe this
would great improve the ergonomics of Spectacle, and help make Spectacle
superior to Flameshot, thanks to the annotation library which allows more
powerful capabilities not present in Flameshot (eg. moving objects around).

Most of the times I take a screenshot, I want to annotate it. It would be great
to add "Annotate" among the options under Configure -> General -> After taking
a screenshot. Right now, if I want to annotate, I have to press Enter, click
the Spectacle popup notification (this requires not copying the image to the
clipboard after taking the screenshot - see bug 468369), choose Annotate, make
my annotation, click Annotation done, then Copy image to clipboard.

SUMMARY
This is a feature available in Windows FancyZones. For example with three equal
vertical zones, holding shift and dragging the window to the edge of zones 1
and 2 will cause the window to expand across both zones 1 and 2. This provides
some more flexibility with the zones without needing to modify the layout each
time.

[kde] [Bug 468372] New: Problem with the menu of all applications

2023-04-10 Thread Konstantin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468372

Bug ID: 468372
Summary: Problem with the menu of all applications
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Archlinux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: jon9...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
If in the menu of all applications in the "Favorites" tab, select and drag the
shortcut to the side - then, if you click anywhere else in this tab, it will
open the application whose shortcut I dragged. If you click on other shortcuts,
it will still open that app.

If I close the all apps menu and open it again, everything works until I start
moving the "favorites" shortcuts.

[kwin] [Bug 468371] New: Kate window rules: "All Desktops" + "No titlebar and frame" = pager & taskbar only see Kate on Desktop #1

2023-04-10 Thread S. Christian Collins
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468371

Bug ID: 468371
Summary: Kate window rules: "All Desktops" + "No titlebar and
frame" = pager & taskbar only see Kate on Desktop #1
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.27.4
  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: rules
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: s_chriscoll...@hotmail.com
CC: isma...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
If you use window rules to have Kate appear on all desktops with no titlebar
and frame, it works, but about 50% of the time, the pager and taskbar will
think Kate is present only on the first desktop.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Make sure you have multiple desktops enabled. I have 4.
2. Start Kate.
3. Click Kate's application icon in the titlebar and select "More Actions" ->
"Configure Special Application Settings...".
4. Add the following window rules:
• Virtual Desktop: Force: All Desktops
• No titlebar and frame: Apply Initially: Yes
5. Close and restart Kate.

OBSERVED RESULT
Kate will appear on all desktops as expected, but there's about a 50% chance
the pager and taskbar will think Kate is only present on the first desktop.
When this happens, it is impossible to manage the Kate window from the taskbar
(minimize, restore, etc.) when using any other desktop than the first. If you
right-click on Kate's taskbar entry (from Desktop #1), under "Move to Desktop",
it shows Kate as currently on "1 Desktop 1". Attempting to change this to "All
Desktops" does nothing.

EXPECTED RESULT
The taskbar/pager should realize that Kate is running on all desktops and allow
management of the window from any desktop.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux: KDE neon 5.27
KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.4
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.104.0
Qt Version: 5.15.8

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I also run Dolphin with the same window rules, but it does not trigger this
bug.

WORKAROUND
Close and restart Kate until the pager shows it present on all desktops.

[plasmashell] [Bug 467812] login to X11 session hangs (Arm64 on Raspberry Pi 4B)

2023-04-10 Thread HankB
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467812

I tested the "hang" again and observed:

1. After login, switch to black screen with three dots and ">" logo centered
and "Plasma made by KDE" + logo in lower right. There is a small gear below the
centered logo that is rotating.
2. Brief flash that looks like desktop, less than a second.
3. Return to black screen as before, with logos but the gear is no longer
rotating.
4. Mouse is responsive. Clicking on lower left corner shows no hint that
anything is happening.
5. for N= 1..6 opens a text console. returns to black
screen as described in 3.
6. If left alone (no mouse, keyboard) the screen will go to low power mode
according to power settings. Mouse or keyboard input brings it back up to the
screen as described in 3.

I have collected information from various sources and pasted into
https://pastebin.com/ZfqB1tJe

I checked for possible related failed systemd services and found
systemd-networkd-wait-online.service which failed shortly after boot, about 5
hours ago.

Allow me to wander a bit. Raspberry Pi ecosystem is a bit different from the
typical X86_64. You don't mention if you have experience with that so I'm
presuming perhaps not. One benefit is that the H/W is pretty invariant, though
I understand that the Pi 4B uses a different GPU than previous models. But all
Pi 4Bs will use the same GPU and that should make things a little easier. OTOH,
I don't think that the people with the most experience with the Pi push their
changes back upstream. I'm running straight Debian so I do not benefit from
their efforts. Also, I'm not using the default DE for Debian which I'm sure you
know is Gnome. I'm probably in a very small group of users wishing to use KDE
on Debian on a Pi 4B on the Testing variant which should graduate to Stable
some time in 2023. When It's ready. I don't believe that this kind of bug will
hold up that graduation.
I'm also aware that resources for open source projects are never quite enough.
If you need to triage this and at some point relegate it to "won't fix" because
there are more impactful areas demanding your time, I fully understand and will
respect that decision. And will hope that progress on Wayland is swift. (I'm
using it on my X86_64 desktop and laptop for KDE/Plasma.)
In the mean time I will continue to perform any tests and collect any
information you request, as quickly as possible to hopefully keep the context
fresh.

Again, Thanks!

[kmymoney] [Bug 468108] ledger freeze on large account

I found a small account that show the performance issue on a small scale so I
was able to do a bunch of (not quite scientific) tests, I still did all of them
twice in a row to confirm, unless noted, reverted the previous change:

original settings (as in above attachment): 11 sec
nothing checked in settings -> ledger -> display: 11 sec
Hiding reconciled transaction: 18 sec *note 1*
settings -> ledger -> display -> Don't show reconciliation entries : instant
settings -> ledger -> display -> Show last reconciliation entry... : instant
original was settings -> ledger -> display -> Show all reconciliation
entries... : 11sec *note 2*
settings -> ledger -> display -> Show last reconciliation entry... and Hiding
reconciled transaction : instant
settings -> ledger -> filter -> by type first: 6 sec, although it does remove
the header by definition
settings -> ledger -> filter -> by payee first: 6sec, which also remove the
header by definition

* note 1: when switch the settings from the view menu while in the ledger, I
get a segfault, I could open a new issue if info needed
* note 2: weirdly, if I'm on the ledger and I "apply" change to the "show
reconciliation header" setting, which ever I choose including "all" update
instantly in the back.

Let me know if some other settings config could be useful. It's quite easy now
to the the performance on that account, which to be clear isn't one of the
original account I raise the issue, but still 11-18 sec to open the ledger is
still an issue.

> Yes, those corrections were made. The headers should not show up in red
> anymore.

I still have red reconciliation header in that account I was able to test. I
was trying to find distinction with others similar account that didn't had
issue. And this might be the biggest difference. Although my checking account
(the original large account) do not have red reconciliation header

Maybe it's better to add a 'delete bundle' button in the 'manage resource

In this way activating and deleting bundles is all in the same place

It seems gocryptfs outperforms cryFS, the access, adding and removing are
really fast even with big folders, it should be made the default, because EncFS

Suggested UI

I'd like to make a usability suggestions inspired from Flameshot. I believe
they would great improve the ergonomics of Spectacle.

The use case ic taking screenshots for pasting in other tools, more and more of
which support pasting from clipboard directly: online collaboration tools
(GitHub, Slack, Discord, Gmail, Trello etc.), document editing (LibreOffice
Writer), other image editors, IM programs like Facebook Messenger etc.

I'd say that in 90% of the cases I need a screenshot, I can paste it directly,
without needing to save it. Having an option to do so from Spectacle directly
would be great. Right now if I want the image in the clipboard, I have to press
Enter, click the Spectacle popup notification, choose Copy (which doesn't
actually copy the image to the clipboard, but that's a moot bug).

Ok, I just had a chance to test a fresh user, and the issue is NOT present!
Which definitely means something is wrong with my specific user profile.

I am not going to test on the iGPU, unless you still think it necessary, but I
would assume some config in my user profile might need to be reset? I am not
familiar with the KDE internals / configs, so I don't know what I could try
testing next.

I should also mention, I have tried deleting the Panel entirely and rebuilding
it, but even the new Panel is still bugged.

KSystemLog application is being closed? Also if I try to run `kdesu firefox`,

me that the bug is with kdesu not cleaning up itself.

Mose of the code here has changed to improve multimonitor use-cases in Plasma

more crashes with Plasma 5.27.4 or newer, please submit additional bug reports

Got symbols:

https://share.firefox.dev/401bncW

It's pretty curious... Looks like the blame is actually on the NixOS wrapper
script, which doesn't look at all reasonable:
https://gist.github.com/matklad/a32bd2fc34bdb7edd37947d8d4619b35

I'll ask on nixos discourse what's up with that:

* either NixOS is doing something stupid there,
* or perhaps there's something lacking with plasma's dynamic linking/search
path, which forces Nix to do a poorly perfoming work-aroud

Thanks.

You're using a low-resolution screen with a thin panel and a small font size.
Unfortunately with this combination of settings, some blurriness can't be
helped given the overlay-style UI for the weather. You'll have to change one of
those things, maybe more than one.

See screenshot. Line In/Out is fully translated, and have been for a long time,
but the interface does not reflect that. Also, positional labels like Front End
etc. also is not translated, so it looks like it's not limited to Kmix.

In addition, on the upper right corner, Analog Input labels are not exposed for
translating, couldn't find those strings among the catalogues.

It is definitely caused by the specific application style implementation and it
can be patched out of the application style. Back when the Oxygen application
style used low-level X11/Wayland code for moving the window, this bug did not
exist (see above for the exact commit that introduced the bug). But that means,
the bug might even be deeper down, perhaps in the `QWindow::startSystemMove()`
implementation, hence, in the Qt library.

If you sync your setting while logged into a Wayland session, it will sync the
screen arrangements too.

Unfortunately this bug is unfixable on X11 because X11 doesn't support
mixed-dpi screen arrangements. What's needed to fix it is to boot the SDDM
session itself into Wayland. This is a technical thing that you can't easily do
yourself. I've done it and verifies that this bug is fixed in that state.

[kdesdk-scripts] [Bug 468366] New: posummit.py uses the wrong catalog during scatter

2023-04-10 Thread Sergiu Bivol
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468366

Bug ID: 468366
Summary: posummit.py uses the wrong catalog during scatter
Classification: Developer tools
   Product: kdesdk-scripts
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Kubuntu
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Miscellaneous
  Assignee: mp...@kde.org
  Reporter: ser...@cip.md
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I noticed that pology started to remove years from the copyright line of some
catalogs, but not all of them. This happens during scatter and I believe it is
due to using the wrong catalog as source.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update to the latest pology

$ git pull
$ git checkout 27f2972f

2. Merge translations:

$ cd trunk/l10n-support
$ ./pology/scripts/posummit.py scripts/messages.summit ro merge

3. Edit a file in Lokalize, specifically:
trunk/l10n-kf5/ro/messages/baloo/baloodb5.po
4. Scatter that catalog:

$ ./pology/scripts/posummit.py scripts/messages.summit ro scatter
trunk5:baloodb5
<[...]/trunk/l10n-kf5/ro/messages/baloo/baloodb5.po
ro/summit/messages/baloo/baloodb6.po

6. Notice it has used baloodb6.po as source for baloodb5.po

OBSERVED RESULT

$ svn diff trunk/l10n-kf5/ro/messages/baloo/baloodb5.po | grep ^[+-]#
-# Sergiu Bivol , 2020.
+# Sergiu Bivol , 2023.

EXPECTED RESULT
Comparing the original file in trunk to the one in summit:

$ diff trunk/l10n-kf5/ro/messages/baloo/baloodb5.po
trunk/l10n-support/ro/summit/messages/baloo/baloodb5.po | head -n4
3d2
< # Sergiu Bivol , 2020.
4a4
> # Sergiu Bivol , 2020, 2023.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
