There is a way to conserve the ratio by locking it in the Tool Options, but
yes, using Shift either for squares or for conserving the ratio (possibly
ctrl+Shift for a square?) would be nice.

The dysfunctions under Windows come from the database engine which lack lock

It must be fixed with next 8.3.0 pre-release available here :

2024-01-21 Thread Liz
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480155

Bug ID: 480155
Summary: Tiling minimums are too large on ultra-wide monitors.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: git-stable-Plasma/5.27
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Custom Tiling
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: warp-spam_...@aehallh.com
CC: notm...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Currently, the smallest tile area permitted 15% of the screen.

At 1920x1080, that gives a minimum width of 288 pixels, and a minimum height of
162 pixels. Not too bad.

But at 5120x2160, that's 768 pixels wide, and 324 high. And when the monitor
is very large instead of high DPI, that's a very large minimum size.

This is controlled in src/tiles/tile.cpp, where s_minimumSize is defined as
0.15.

As a default for more reasonably sized displays, 15% is just fine, but we
really need to provide some way to change it, or barring that, we need to set
it much smaller.

Something like 5% would make the 5k resolution minimum close to the current
1080p minimum, though that would then make the 1080p minimum width a mere 96
pixels, which is very much getting down to icon sizes.

However given that this would still be big enough to see that it exists, and to
grab the borders, I'm not sure that this would be the worst option possible.

But again, the best option would be to provide some way to change the minimum,
even if it's just a scripting API.

(I'd be willing to take a crack at changes to support changing it, however I'm
on Debian Sid, and thus still on 5.27.10, and I'm really not sure that a patch
for this targeted at the 5.27 series would be useful or even accepted. If this
is inaccurate, please let me know, and I'll take that crack at it.)

2024-01-21 Thread hovgaard
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480154

Bug ID: 480154
Summary: Screen resolutions bumps down 1024x768 after wake from
sleep of both screen power save and also from system
power save.
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.92.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: alan.hovga...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

When i boot my system to plasma wayland session my screen resolution is FHD
(1920x1080@60hz) .
But when either screen or system goes into powersave mode, and i wake computer
og turn screen power save off by presseing a key on keyboard, the computer
comes back up but then screen resolution is lost and now is bumped down to
1024x768.
I can restore the resolution from system settings display settings or by
sending "kscreen-doctor output.HDMI-A-1.mode.1920x1080@60" from command line.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Wait for a powersave event to occur happens on both screen power save or
after wake to resume of system power save
2. Press any key to resume from power save
3. The resolution is bumped down to 1024x768
4. These 3 action restore my 1920x1080 resolution:
1) A reboot fixes resolution, 2) kscreen-doctor cmd above, or 3) using System
settings display option to restore also works fine.

OBSERVED RESULT
Screen resolution is lost on power save events

EXPECTED RESULT
Screen resolution to stay at 1980x1080 as configured for the System using
System Settings. And which have been set and in effect as a reboot will set
this resolution at reboot. Only after a power save event is the resolution
lost...

[Haruna] [Bug 479724] No audio from Haruna OR mpv

2024-01-21 Thread Peter
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=479724

It is reproducible.. the problem is that on some systems for whatever reason,
pipewire audio output works on libmpv and mpv using the 22-08 runtime, but as
soon as it changes to 23-08 runtime it stops working. The only way to make
audio work in that case with the 23-08 runtime is (if one is inclined to do so)
is to use --ao=pulse (does not apply to Haruna). With that switch you get
audio, but with the 22-08 runtime it is not necessary to do that and the audio
is via pipewire.

When I started the bug report, I didn't have an understanding of what is going
on, now I do. I don't know that you can fix it because it is upstream, other
than adding a condition check where if system is these specs, then --ao=pulse
instead of pipewire.

As for the answer to the question as to why not just switch to 5.27, right now
no because the core OS is buggy so I'm waiting for further updates, and another
reason is because I really dislike the white outline around windows that KDE
decided to introduce in 5.27.. In 5.26 you have a normal looking window, in
5.27 you have a white outline around it.. it's like every window is a text
box.. awful.

[knemo] [Bug 480151] New: Asks me for kwallet password at every startup to connect to wifi network

Bug ID: 480151
Summary: Asks me for kwallet password at every startup to
connect to wifi network
Classification: Applications
   Product: knemo
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: jst...@mehercule.net

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***

***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install Manjaro with KDE
2. Connect to a wifi network for the first time
3. Restart

OBSERVED RESULT

When I connected to the wifi for the first time, KWallet asked me to choose a
password to unlock the wallet where wifi passwords are stored. It gave me no
option to not protect the wifi password at all.

At every restart, now, as it automatically connects to the same wifi network,
it asks me for the password to unlock the wallet. It hasn't offered me any
option to avoid this.

EXPECTED RESULT

1) First of all, when connecting to a wifi network for the first time, it
should ask me whether or not I want the password to be encripted with the
wallet at all. For me (and I'm sure I'm not the only one), the wifi password is
not very sensitive at all. I'm going to give it to anybody who comes to my home
anyway. I would happily have it stored in plain text and save myself the pain
of having to use the wallet in the first place. I bet there is already a way
and I'll find it by googling, but I shouldn't have to. The very popup that
prompts me to set up the wallet, should first ask me whether I want to.

2) And secondly, there MUST be a way to avoid having to enter the wallet
password every time at startup, just like one can choose to not have to enter
the user password to log in at startup.

On my previous computer I remember having the exact same issue, and at some
point I don't remember how I solved it, but I no longer had to enter the
kwallet password. I guess I'll google for it and find the same solution again,
but I shouldn't have to, a solution should be offered to me at some point along
the process.

Hmm, this looks like it's missing some installed configs, does /etc/xdg/kwinrc
on the system exist?

Window decorations (close, minimize buttons etc.) shouldn't appear at all,
check with your distro to see if there's a package that needs to be installed,
something like "plasma-phone-settings"

When I want to select a new clip in the Project bin to play, the player clip
monitor does not switch to the clip, but stays on the previous clip, although
the selection highlight is on a different clip. The workaround is to click on a

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Start playing a clip

Yes, thanks. If that only is triggered there, I am not sure that is really a

[ktorrent] [Bug 480145] New: Custom proxy settings are ignored

2024-01-21 Thread Nicolas Fella
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480145

Bug ID: 480145
Summary: Custom proxy settings are ignored
Classification: Applications
   Product: ktorrent
   Version: 24.01.90
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: joris.guis...@gmail.com
  Reporter: nicolas.fe...@gmx.de
  Target Milestone: ---

When setting custom proxy settings in Configure KTorrent > Proxy these settings
are ignored by KIO.

Since
https://invent.kde.org/frameworks/kio/-/commit/2cda0c729bb3fa3cbc7f410f6c066b4d48b2cbf0
KIO's HTTP implementation ignores the ProxyUrls passed via metadata and instead
uses Qt's proxy handling. That means that the KDE proxy settings (as well as
other platform's native settings) are used, but the custom settings in ktorrent
are ignored

+1
Since it's one of the "basic" integrated applications, I guess most users would
expect core functionalities for right clikcing. Like profiles quick access. (I
know this would make Konsole Profiles widget obsolete. But also, I feel it has
never integrated 100% to the panel).

Mostly a documentation issue. Perhaps I could alter configure.ac to detect
32-bit userland (say with 'file -L `which ${CC}`').

commit 5bdb86cc9a962f04f2dd3816b7d3a96288b09b72 (HEAD -> master, origin/master,
origin/HEAD)
Author: Paul Floyd
Date: Sun Jan 21 21:33:06 2024 +0100

Bug 480126 - Build failure on Raspberry Pi 5 / OS 6.1.0-rpi7-rpi-v8

The problem is that the Pi 3+ with raspbian has a 64bit aarch64 OS
but a 32bit gnueabihf userland. If you just run "configure" the
result will be an attempt to use 32-bit GCC with the ARM64 Valgrind
platform, which will fail.

This can be fixed by using the appropriate --host= option.
I've updated README.aarch64 with a description of this.

I've also changed configure.ac to take "arm*" for the
ARM platform (previously it was "armv7*"). That's been
a patch on Debian for a while. It will allow building
on older arm hardware and also armv8 (used on the
Raspberry Pi 3 and later models).

New crash information added by DrKonqi

plasmashell (5.27.5) using Qt 5.15.8

Crashed shortly after resumption from sleep, with Firefox browser already
running.

I don't recall the exact timing, but I think the crash was reported when I
selected the Firefox window.

Additionial information that might be relevant:
* Firefox browser was running from Flatpak. It had a twitch stream window open
so it might've been doing video stuff.
* The computer is using the proprietary nvidia graphics driver (loaded from
Debian stable's repository)

Faced the exact same problem with all versions provided by the website namely:
Windows store (23.08.1), nightly stable (23.08.04) and nightly experimental
(24.01.80) build.

I managed to build the newest version from source myself (24.07.70) and with
that version the problem was not there. I followed a wiki entry for building
KDE connect on Windows using Visual Studio and craft without modifying any
settings or source code. (https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect/Build_Windows) I
also build it with QT6, whereas the other versions used QT5.

However, I don't know what resolved the matter (build settings, newer Okular
version, newer QT version,...).

2024-01-21 Thread Paul Floyd
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480052

Valgrind is unlikely to cause a deadlock.

However, it can bring out race conditions. Firstly, it is considerably slower.
Secondly, it runs effectively as though there were a single CPU (similar to
Python and its GIL). So code that works by accident because one thread 'always'
does something before another can get caught out.

[kmymoney] [Bug 469431] Need better way to handle changes in stock price quote source

Created attachment 165114

Example of a successful update with the configs mentioned

Here is an example of the success message I received with these settings.

I placed a link to the location of the online forum where I found the settings.
I did not come up with them myself but can say that they worked for me on
Kmymoney version: Version 5.1.3-0663fcc7b
(Find KMM version , Toolbar > Help > About KMyMoney)

I also agree that the average user does not know about compilations, or other
tools methods that developers use.

I think those suggestions are offered in case the user does know but if the
user does not know, then the people here are very open to helping them walk
through it. I've been helped in the past and am very grateful. If the user does
not want to mess with it, then usually the answer is, wait until it is fixed.
(At times the user is provided a link to a newer unreleased version that may
include the fix they need, if available)

I think the suggestions of compiling and others are only in case the user know
how to do it. Much like when the mechanic explains what needs to be done. If
you ask them, they may share details on how to do it in case you want to try
yourself. But to the point, most people do not want to try because they usually
do not have the knowledge or the tools to try it. Not their realm of expertise.

Can reproduce.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
1) Disable offline updates
2) Downgrade at least 2 packages
3) Switch between the Updates tab and the Settings tab until the footer breaks

Notice how resizing the window makes the footer look correct again

Image showing the set up for YahooFinance

Trying to contribute by driving conversations is fine but I do not think the
approach of name calling or any other form of aggression is necessary. Software
development is challenging and especially more so when the dev teams are trying
to do this on their free time and as volunteers. No developer wants it to be
any harder than it needs to be.

I believe the team here has mentioned that perhaps the real bug is the missing
the documentation on how to leverage the tool to fix the online quotes. Maybe
there should be a bug ticket open on that subject.

Meanwhile, I am attaching a screenshot of my set up for YahooFinance.

I have have accidentally discovered the root cause when attempting to replace
the currently running kwin_x11 instance

KWIN_OPENGL_INTERFACE=glx kwin_x11 --replace
kwin_x11: symbol lookup error: /lib/aarch64-linux-gnu/libkwin.so.5: undefined
symbol: drmModeGetConnectorTypeName

This appears to be a result of
https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/commit/f881bdf51b55b0ace76e9919b812ba87c8a8f040

According to the package properties this is only for drm output on wayland. Yet
I am using x11, so why is this symbol required?

Ah, in that case I misunderstood the intended functionality. I expected that
this switch made it possible to switch between all windows regardless on which
desktop they occur. That the switch was a choice between: "switch between
windows on current desktop only", and "switch between all windows on whatever
desktop they may be".

As a quick hack changing configure.ac so that

sets ARCH_MAX to just arm gets a build to complete. make check doesn't get far

Can reproduce. Oddly enough plasmashell --replace is not enough to trigger it,
it has to be a reboot

Can you try this?

Install valgrind if you have not installed it

open a terminal and run

valgrind krdc

be patient, it'll be slow.

Do the same you did when it crashed.

Even if it doesn't crash, paste here the output of valgrind.

[qca] [Bug 411184] QCA: Channel binding support

2024-01-21 Thread Albert Astals Cid
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=411184

--- Comment #4 from Albert Astals Cid ---
Why do you keep spamming bugs? There's 0 need to write the same comment here
and in https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=476562

The only thing you achieve by that is your reports being more ignored because
of your behaviour

[kwin] [Bug 480139] checking "All other desktops" breaks ALT-TAB

I think this works as intended. If you enable this then Alt+Tab switches
between all the windows not on the current desktop. If you don't hve any other
desktops or there are no windows there then nothing will happen
