There has to be something else messing with it, this is not the usual behaviour... If it is disabled it generally stays disabled, and you can see the option in the .config/baloofilerc file as [Basic Settings] Indexing-Enabled=false Keep an eye on this, see if it is being changed back. You could try setting the config to "read only"... > 1. `systemctl --user disable kde-baloo.service` doesn't help. It still > starts up again at reboot. I'll check to see whether this does anything more than the "balooctl disable". I think not as it would not set the "indexing-enabled-false" > 2. Deleting the index after disabling `Enable File Search` makes no > difference. No, that would be a purge and you'd start again. > 3. I need to disable `baloo_file` as my system is using `BTRFS` COW with > scheduled snapshots enabled. This causes `baloo_file` to re-index every time > a new snapshot is created, consuming large amounts of CPU and doing a lot of > fs reads (slowing other opartions down) and performing writes that > negatively impact SSD wear. That's interesting. I've not played with that. The question is why Baloo sees the files as new files. * Do you see the snapshots "elsewhere" in the filesystem? * If you do a "stat one-of-your-files.txt", do you see the device number and inode of the file change (after the snapshot/reboot)? * If you do a "balooshow one-of-your-files.txt" do you see the DocID change? (the Id is built from the device number and inode. The way this is done has recently been changed to avoid reindexing, specifically in the BTRFS case) * If you do a "baloosearch -i one-of-your-files.txt" do you get a single result or many? The "DocId" is the 16 character hex string that comes first in the balooshow and at the beginning of the line in baloosearch. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 481044] Window previews for Firefox when playing videos with sound or streaming audio were sometimes shifted down and to the right
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481044 --- Comment #3 from Matt Fagnani --- Thanks. This problem usually happened when I stopped moving the cursor over the Firefox task in the task manager before the window preview popups appeared. When I kept moving the cursor after the window preview popups appeared, the problem normally didn't happen or corrected itself. The initial alignment positions for Firefox previews might be off. I've only seen this problem with Firefox when video or audio are playing or paused with sound on, so the media player controls might be involved in the incorrect positioning somehow. The media player controls like play or pause were either partly cut off at the bottom of the popups or not shown at all when the problem happened. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474725 Rean changed: What|Removed |Added CC||tech...@protonmail.com --- Comment #17 from Rean --- I thought this issue didn't affect me before, even though I was indeed getting freezes. I realized it when the patch to disable hardware cursors stopped the freezes on Plasma 6, so I left it disabled, but lately I decided to enable hardware cursors again using the env veriable and noticed the freezing not happening anymore. I don't know what it is; it could be a MESA update or something in Plasma 6 RC2. I don't know what changed, but the freezing issue with HW cursors is suddenly gone. I'm really glad that I don't have to use software cursors anymore because I notice the slowness of the mouse movement under heavy load, and that does not feel nice at all. Hopefully the next thing that gets fixed is the fact that the entire plasma desktop's slows down from a single graphical program running slowly i tested with compositor-killer. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Right-click "Show hidden icons" and select "Configure System Tray" 2. Select tab "Entries" in the settings applet 3. Search for anything with at least one matching result ("x" or "j" return no results, for me, and don't cause the issue) OBSERVED RESULT Usually there will be random other entries somewhere below the matching result. They are displayed in the same position in the search as were they were in the main list of entries, prior to starting the search. After the non-matching results first display, they will remain visible until the applet is closed or until you switch tabs in the applet. The expected entries are written on top of the non-matching entries, including (when you stop searching) the same entry itself, which is displayed at the same position twice (You can see the text is written to the area twice, for example). EXPECTED RESULT Only matching entries shown in search results, stop searching and entries to display are properly cleaned up. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Go into `File Search` in KDE settings 2. Tick to disable `Enable File Search` and click Apply 3. Reboot 4. Notice that `baloo_file` is chewing through CPU and I/O resources. 5. Go back into `File Search` in KDE settings 6. Notice that `Enable File Search` has been re-enabled. OBSERVED RESULT `baloo_file` continues to run, consuming CPU and I/O. EXPECTED RESULT `baloo_file` should be permanently disabled and the `Enable File Search` should not be automagically re-enabled. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux/KDE Plasma KDE Plasma Version: 5.27.10 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.114.0 Qt Version: 5.15.12 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 1. `systemctl --user disable kde-baloo.service` doesn't help. It still starts up again at reboot. 2. Deleting the index after disabling `Enable File Search` makes no difference. 2. I need to disable `baloo_file` as my system is using `BTRFS` COW with scheduled snapshots enabled. This causes `baloo_file` to re-index every time a new snapshot is created, consuming large amounts of CPU and doing a lot of fs reads (slowing other opartions down) and performing writes that negatively impact SSD wear. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kdesrc-build] [Bug 481098] New: For some distributions --initial-setup will not properly set the amount of usable cores
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481098 Bug ID: 481098 Summary: For some distributions --initial-setup will not properly set the amount of usable cores Classification: Developer tools Product: kdesrc-build Version: Git Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: setup wizard Assignee: mp...@kde.org Reporter: juer...@youkai.dev Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY *** On a high level kdesrc-build populates the two variables "num-cores" and "num-cores-low-mem" inside the kdesrc-buildrc config file like so: num-cores = Result of nproc num-cores-low-mem = min(num-cores, Total ram in GiB / 2GiB ) It does so only if it detects that the current platform is linux or freebsd. However, the platform detection logic is flawed on the linux side because it's relying on the OS identification parameter "ID" from /etc/os-release and testing if it's equal to "linux". On some (most?) distributions this is not the case and the script will default to assigning the value 4 to num-cores and num-cores-low-mem. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 0. Temporarily backup and move/delete ~/.config/kdesrc-buildrc if it exists 1. Run through "./kdesrc-build --initial-setup" OBSERVED RESULT The variables num-cores and num-cores-low-mem inside ~/.config/kdesrc-buildrc will have the default value of 4 when running on a distribution which sets the "ID" paramenter of /etc/os-release to something other than "linux". EXPECTED RESULT The variables should be set based on the amount of system memory. A 16-core 16GiB Ram System should have the following values: num-cores = 16; num-cores-low-mem = 8.
