[kwin] [Bug 483314] New: xwayland windows don't maximize over the whole screen sometimes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483314 Bug ID: 483314 Summary: xwayland windows don't maximize over the whole screen sometimes Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 6.0.1 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: wayland-generic Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: a...@digitalsignalperson.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I'm not sure how to reproduce this, but several times a day when I try to maximize an xwayland window (typically the vivaldi browser), it seems to think the extents of the screen is somewhere else. It will go "maximized" but cover part of the lower half of the screen, or be offset and covering multiple screens. As a workaround to make the maximize apply properly, I have to first resize the window so it is closer to the size of the screen and each corner is close to each corner of the screen, and then when I maximize it seems to take that hint and fill the screen properly. I have multiple screens including 2K and 4K. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Use vivaldi browser with xwayland 2. Maximize/restore windows throughout the day 3. Resize the window so it is close to the target geometry (each corner of the window close to each corner of the screen, within the screen) OBSERVED RESULT Step 2: Occasionally the maximized window does not fill the target screen. Step 3: Resizing the window to be closer to the expected maximized area, and then trying to maximize it snaps it to the right location. EXPECTED RESULT Step 2: The maximized window should fill the target screen always. [plasmashell] [Bug 483188] Icons-Only Task Manager randomly becomes unresponsive while using Chrome
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483188 --- Comment #2 from pete --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > What kind of GPU are you using? > > Does it ever happen when *not* using Chrome? > > Does it still happen in a new clean user account? > > Does it happen on only X11, or only Wayland, or both? Sorry Nate! I should have mentioned that is on Wayland, and it does happen even when not using Chrome. In fact, I've noticed today that it primarily happens when I allow my monitor to turn off and return after a while. I don't have it set to sleep or lock, only turn the monitor off after ten minutes. Weirdly, I set it to 1 minute to test, let it turn off and tried it right after but the bug didn't appear. It may just need more time but I'm not sure yet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[dolphin] [Bug 483313] New: Dolphin not allowing creation of files in NFS share
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483313 Bug ID: 483313 Summary: Dolphin not allowing creation of files in NFS share Classification: Applications Product: dolphin Version: 24.02.0 Platform: Arch Linux OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: major Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: dolphin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: ben-pub...@bensuniverse.com CC: kfm-de...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I have an NFS share in /etc/fstab that has the 'user' option to allow non-root mounting. Before Plasma 6.0, I had full edit access in these mounted shares, as I have the share configured in TrueNAS to map user and group to 'root,' allowing anyone who mounts to have full permissions. However, something has changed with the update to Plasma 6.0, and Dolphin is not giving me the option to create folders, files, copy/paste, etc. However, if I open split view and drag files into the folder, it will throw an error but then successfully copy the files, proving that this is not a permissions issue. I suspect this problem has something to do with the way Dolphin checks if a user should have permission in a share. In another of my shares, all the files are owned by my local user, and I still have edit access. The problem only occurs in shares owned by root. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Create NFS share with mapall user and mapall group to 'root' 2. Mount NFS share as local (non-root) user 3. If folders contained inside the share are created server-side (owned by root), local user will not have edit permissions OBSERVED RESULT I am not able to edit in these types of shares. EXPECTED RESULT I should have full edit access since I should have root permissions from the perspective of the server. [plasmashell] [Bug 483075] Global menu items disappear when a pop-up window opens, but don't show up again after it closes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483075 --- Comment #2 from Kunshan Wang --- Created attachment 167011 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=167011=edit Task Manager, Global Menu and pop-up window I also noticed that when the global menu disappears, the current window is also not marked as active in the task manager. I generated a new C++ KDE project with a main window, a toolbar and a main menu from a template in KDevelop, and added a few lines to the signal handler of a toolbar item to pop up a window. ``` QTimer::singleShot(200, this, [this]() { KMessageBox::information(this, i18n("Congratulations, you have solved board")); }); ``` The pop-up window from `KMessageBox::information` does not appear on the task manager. When the window pops up, two things may non-deterministically happen to the task manager (See the screen recording in the attachment) 1. The task manager still highlights the main window as the active task. (This happens the first time I clicked the toolbar in the video) 2. The task manager does not highlight *any* window as active. (This happens the second time I clicked the toolbar in the video) In the first case, the Global Menu applet still shows the menu of the main window; in the second case, the Global Menu applet disappears. I think the connection between the Task Manager and the Global Menu applet is that the Global Menu applet uses the `TaskManager::TasksModel` (in libtaskmanager) to determine the active window. So if a glitch happens in the Task Manager, the Global Menu is affected, too. I also suspect that if a window does not appear in the TaskManager but still has a MenuBar widget, the Global Menu widget will not work for that window even if the window has focus. I haven't confirmed it, yet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482939 --- Comment #2 from damon.dev...@gmail.com --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1) > > and regularly use the split screen function > What is the split screen function? This is a feature on many ultrawide monitors that splits the monitor into two separate output devices. From the PC's perspective, the monitor's resolution just changes from 5120x1440 to 2560x1440 and vice versa. It triggers a disconnect/reconnect when this is occurring. > Does the issue reproduce in a new clean user account using the Wayland > session? I won't be able to test this with a fresh account for a few days and will check back in once I've done so, but immediately after upgrading to Plasma 6 I cleared out all of my Plasma/KDE configs to start fresh. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483162 --- Comment #3 from jsha...@qq.com --- (In reply to Nate Graham from comment #2) > Does the issue still happen in a new clean user account? Yes, it still exists. I don't have the same applications as @glados, so my procedure is different from his/her. In the new clean account, I start a PyCharm process, a microsoft-edge process, a Dolphin window, and a Kate window, as a normal working environment. The issue happens when I have done some text editing works and raised some pop-up dialogs. The first wierd behaviour is that when I right-click the Task Manager, the mouse click event propagates to the desktop and pops up the desktop context menu, rather than the Task Manager's. My computer has two monitors, with NVIDIA 550.54.14 driver, btw. The issue cannot be reproduced consistently for me in a short time. However, after a relatively longer period of time (with many user interactions), the problem will appear almost steadily. I didn't think it is bash that could be doing that. The two commands did not fix the problem, though. After running the first one, @ still cant be typed, and after running the second one typing # does not comment the line anymore, but a # is not typed either. As I perceive currently nothing happens when attempting to type @ or #. Also, when we figure out the exact problems (in case there is more than what you have discovered already), would it be possible to integrate the solution into Konsole? Windows Terminal passes these inputs to bash by default in a way that doesnt confuse it, and it would be very helpful if Konsole too worked out of the box that way. Not sure how is it with other layouts, but among Hungarian keyboards its common to have the right Alt as an AltGr key. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[kwin] [Bug 483306] New: Remapping Caps Lock key to Backspace does not work correctly in XWayland and Electron apps
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483306 Bug ID: 483306 Summary: Remapping Caps Lock key to Backspace does not work correctly in XWayland and Electron apps Classification: Plasma Product: kwin Version: 5.27.8 Platform: Other OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: input Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: swiftlo...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I'm writing this here because I'm frankly clueless as to what could be causing it, and I'm hoping someone here might have enough knowledge to head in the right direction. For many years, X11 has been unable to correctly handle the use case in which Caps Lock is mapped to an extra backspace key. This was reported as early as 2012, as far as I can tell, with #299134 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=299134). The behavior is that the Caps Lock key is input only once, with no ability to repeat. This makes it not helpful as a backspace key. With KWin on Wayland, this behavior works correctly, *in Wayland applications*. XWayland apps still suffer from the bug, and the previously noted workaround of inputting ``xmodmap -e "clear lock"`` in a shell doesn't help anymore. This is probably still a bug with the X server. What's really confusing is that sometime in the last year, Electron applications started being affected by this bug too, even when using the correct flags to enable a native Wayland platform (e.g. ``code --enable-features=UseOzonePlatform,WaylandWindowDecorations --ozone-platform=wayland``). Could it be the case that it started using XWayland under the hood, and therefore now suffers from the bug? If I had to guess, this isn't KWin's fault either way, but I'm trying to get some renewed interest around this now 12 year old issue. It's been driving me up the wall for years now, so I'll happily contribute any way I can towards fixing it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. System Settings -> Keyboard -> Advanced. 2. Click "Configure Keyboard Options". 3. "Caps Lock Behavior" -> Enable "Make Caps Lock an additional Backspace". 4. Open a native Wayland application (for instance, any KDE app) and observe the newly mapped Backspace key repeating correctly. 5. Open an XWayland application (for instance, a Java application like Ghidra) and observe how the Backspace key does not repeat correctly. 6. Open an Electron application (for instance, VS Code) and observe how the Backspace key does not repeat correctly. OBSERVED RESULT Caps Lock key mapped as Backspace should repeat for all software. EXPECTED RESULT Caps Lock key mapped as Backspace only repeats with Wayland-native software, excluding Electron apps. I'm very new to linux, and I appreciate your advice, being that I should understand that for DIY distros, system stability is heavily dependent on me. However, I do enjoy learning how everything works, and about how to control my own system. I also enjoyed discovering the solution to this problem for my system, and writing a bug report for a part of KDE6 that I didn't think was intended. I definitely didn't expect your initial response though, like I thought I was really being helpful and then you hit me with that. I understand you guys are probably under a lot of stress and working around the clock since you're in kahoots with Valve.
