[konsole] [Bug 453142] Increase Contrast in the Tab Bar

A workaround is better than nothing.

Can you reproduce or should I add a screenshot how it looks here?
I have on the tab bar with Plastique theme:
- 1-3 px lightgrey border above inactive tabs and the active tab is connected
to the top border of the other tabs
- Inactive tabs have a gradient with two light greys, the active tab has one
solid lightgrey
- The active tab is slightly higher overlapping the area below

While this is visible when looking at the tab bar directly, it is hard to
intuitively notice when looking at the terminal contents.

Bug ID: 487250
   Summary: Can no longer select emoji using the keyboard
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.0.4
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Emoji Selector

SUMMARY
Can't use keyboard to easily select emoji to copy anymore

Prior version of emojier (5.x unsure of my exact version prior to system update
), the initial cursor started in the search bar and tab allowed switching to
the resulting emoji for selection. Right now, I have to

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. press the emojier shortcut (command + .)
2. (notice the cursor isn't assuming search anymore)
3. press Tab twice to get to search and press enter to open search bar
4. type any emoji of your choosing and try to tab into the emoji display area
to select one

OBSERVED RESULT
can't easily use keyboard to select emoji

EXPECTED RESULT
emojier window should remember last used sidebar item selected, and if search,
cursor shouldn't be in the sidebar, but in the search box for easy input. Tab
should allow cursor to move to emoji selector area.

[kwin] [Bug 486432] Wayland: Screen-wide Repaint Triggered by Any Application Change

2024-05-15 Thread Alex Fiestas
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486432

--- Comment #4 from Alex Fiestas  ---
I did some extra testing

This is reproducible with Plasma 6.0.4, stable from distro packages
It is reproducible with just one screen (built-in eDP)

Testcase: Open konsole, place it close to 0,0 and just write a letter. The
expected
damage should be somewhere close to 0x0 and narrow.

Without knowing what I'm doing I've added a few qDebugs in
Compositor::prePaintPass

This might be perfectly normal behavior, just writing it down in case it is of
any help
- The incoming QRegion is always null
- It always obtains the correct  QRegion from layer->delegate()->prePaint();

I added another qDebug in paintPass, damages were ok as well.
I added another in SceneDelegate::paint, here the QRegion finally changes
>From QRegion(4,44 1066x21)
To QRegion(1809,44 1066x21)
which looks about right as well.

I haven't dug deeper, perhaps this is just the paint effect being silly or me
not understanding the paint effect correctly.

It can be reproduced with any app, not just konsole.

I'm not an expert but as far as I know one of the most important architectural
changes in wayland was that Apps can only operate on local coordinates which
should make it impossible for konsole (or any other app) to send damage events
that include the entire screen.

SUMMARY
I believe that it is unnecessary to repaint the entire screen when updating an
application's display. If this is incorrect, I apologize for the added noise.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1.  Enable paint effect
2.  Launch konsole
3.  type something

OBSERVED RESULT
After every character is drawn, a full display refresh can be observed in the
paint effect

EXPECTED RESULT
Only the konsole modified line should be repainted.

I have not extensively tested behavior, but I think **at least** a message is
required on login if the existing profile cannot be loaded (deleted by user for
example). Just because we copy it to the local destination, does not mean it
won't become unavailable (I had a btrfs meltdown last year for the /home which
is on a separate drive).

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

SUMMARY

A spin off from the https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483700 as an open

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Apply profile from non-local location (nas for example)
2. Remove access to the profile
3. Open Display configuration and check the field

OBSERVED RESULT

Previous profile is not mentioned and not possible to select a new profile as
the whole window becomes unresponsive

EXPECTED RESULT

I believe some message should be shown that the profile is unavailable and it's
removed (actually that should be done when it's attempted to load (on login?)
).

[kde] [Bug 485549] New: Plasma crash and firefox rendering issue on monitor ARC reconnect

2024-04-14 Thread Alex Baldwin
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=485549

Bug ID: 485549
   Summary: Plasma crash and firefox rendering issue on monitor
ARC reconnect
Classification: I don't know
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Debian stable
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: alexbaldwin2...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Application: plasmashell (5.27.5)

Qt Version: 5.15.8
Frameworks Version: 5.103.0
Operating System: Linux 6.1.0-13-amd64 x86_64
Windowing System: Wayland
Distribution: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm)
DrKonqi: 5.27.5 [CoredumpBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
I am using Debian 12 PC as a media center hooked up to my TV directly via HDMI
and audio recievier via HDMI ARC through the TV.

The reciever automatically switches off after about five minutes of no audio
input, and whenever it does, the TV renegotiates the HDMI connection with the
PC. This causes a visual flash combined with the following ill effects: Firefox
will become unresponsive, with only the top left quarter of the window contents
visible, although the entire window decorations are rendered. Attempting to
interact with this Firefox window will result in Firefox hanging.

Turning the audio reciever back on does not fix the issue with Firefox, and it
remains broken until restarting the application. If Firefox is restarted before
the audio reciever is turned back on, this also results in the window becoming
unresponsive. If a video happens to be playing during this time, the
application will hang and the audio is garbled.

Other potentially useful information:
CPU: Intel i5-7500 (4) @ 3.800GHz
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX480
TV: LG 75UR80006LJ (4K60Hz)
Audio Reciever: Sony STRDH790 (in 5.1 input stream configutation)

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

Still waiting for a consistent set of plasma 6 packages in Debian testing. The
last time I tried to upgrade and leave some package conflicts unresolved I had
no working desktop afterward.

Hi Nate, while true, devices do report themselves as multi-capable, I don't
think that mouse kcm should show devices that are not mouse. Looks like
currently there is patern search for capibilities for "pointer", hence Razer
Razer DeathAdder V2 Keyboard also shown in a list, as it's reported as
"keyboard pointer".

> I wonder if this KDE bug report is still valid at this point @Doug ?

Expanding on what I said in comment #8, I don't think this Neon bug can be
considered fixed until either

- the `libpam-kwallet5` package is marked as substantive/necessary for
pam-kwallet functionality as opposed to transitional (the description "This
package can be removed" is outright false if you want this to work); OR
- the file `pam_kwallet5.so` (or a new file that does the same thing) is
included in one of the packages currently marked as necessary for pam-kwallet
functionality: presumably `libpam-kwallet-common` (since it seems to be) but
possibly `libpam-kwallet6`.

Yeah, copying it locally to .local sounds good. For the other, I'm not sure how
you tested it, I have a /mnt/nas/ configured as systemd mount and
automount units, probably it's waiting for the time out, but I'm pretty sure
I've waited specified 30s and it was still hanging

[kwin] [Bug 483700] New: ICC profiles always loaded from specified location

2024-03-15 Thread Gurenko Alex
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=483700

Bug ID: 483700
   Summary: ICC profiles always loaded from specified location
Classification: Plasma
   Product: kwin
   Version: 6.0.2
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: wayland-generic
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: agure...@protonmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I've found potentially undesirable behavior with ICC profiles. It seems that
it's always loaded from the specified location in Display settings. I've added
mine from the NAS, which causes two issues:

1) Whenever outside of home NAS is not available at boot, hence profile is not
loaded
2) Field becomes unresponsive and new profile cannot be selected, when previous
profile is not accessible

I would assume that whatever icc file is specified it's copied somewhere, so it
continues to be available, no matter the availability of the initial location
(same can be said for cloud storage which may not be available at login time)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Install ICC profile from network location
2. Make said location unavailable
3. Try to login and change ICC profile

OBSERVED RESULT

No ICC profile loaded (and field is empty) and cannot set to new profile
because location is unavailable and whole Display settings window hangs.

EXPECTED RESULT

...something else? I would say that hang should not occur and/or message should
be displayed that previous ICC cannot be found? That should probable be shown
as system-wide message (a pop up?) at the time it fails to load. But again, I'd
expect the specified file to be copied to some location and used from there.

You're on openSUSE Tumbleweed, aren't you? I can't see what files are included
in which packages using the openSUSE package browser, so all I can do is
reiterate the files that you need at a minimum:

- pam_kwallet5.so (in libpam-kwallet5 on Neon)
- pam_kwallet_init (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)
- pam_kwallet_init.desktop (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)
- plasma-kwallet-pam.service (in libpam-kwallet-common on Neon)

As mentioned previously, even under kf6 the working parts here still have "5"
in them.

[kate] [Bug 481381] Crash when filtering certain information from pyright LSP

2024-03-09 Thread Alex Lowe
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481381

--- Comment #3 from Alex Lowe  ---
Thanks for responding Waqar! The pyright version you're using is quite old
(2021 it seems): https://github.com/microsoft/pyright/releases/tag/1.1.193

I've tried with the oldest version I could get from pypi (1.1.225) and it still
crashes for me. The crash is only reproducible when the Diagnostics tab is
open, with LSP selected from the dropdown, and with Errors selected to the left
of the filter box. It takes a few times messing with the annotations, but I can
reliably reproduce it with all tried versions of pyright (1.1.225, 1.1.349,
1.1.352) by changing the return type of _extract_file to str, then to
tuple[str, str], then back to str, then to tuple[str, str, str]. This occurs
both in the current version in Kubuntu 24.04 (Version: 4:23.08.5-0ubuntu1) and
in the version from snap (23.08.4 2023-12-10 (171)). I've attached another
crash file using pyright 1.1.225.

So, for the Chrome, indeed, I've forced Chrome and Electron apps to use wayland
and I cannot reproduce it anymore. For the firefox, it seems to be reproducible
at 115% scaling, but not at 125%, or at least it's much harder to find that
size with issue on 125%. The whole scaling thing is causing very weird behavior
that's very difficult to reproduce, because it's changing all the time :(

--- Comment #8 from Alex Ball  ---
I was hit by this problem after upgrading KDE Neon User Edition to MegaRelease
6.

- `PAM_KWALLET5_LOGIN` environment variable was not set.
- No socket was created at `/run/user/1000/kwallet5.socket`.
- Therefore the `pam_kwallet_init` script did nothing.

Thanks to this thread, I see this was caused by `libpam-kwallet5` being removed
in the upgrade, and not being restored in the fixes released on 2 March.

The issue is that `libpam-kwallet5` is marked and treated as a transitional
package:

- Its title now has "- transitional" at the end.
- The description says "This package can be removed."
- Its category is "Libraries - Old"
- It depends on `libpam-kwallet6`.

But since `libpam-kwallet5` contains the file of substance that makes
everything work, in reality `libpam-kwallet6` depends on `libpam-kwallet5`.

This looks like a clear case of a packaging error to me. Presumably
`pam_kwallet5.so` was intended to move to `libpam-kwallet-common`?

Firefox persistent example

SUMMARY

When scaling is enabled (tested at 115% and 125%), some apps in some sizes
experience artifacts at various borders.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable scaling
2. Try to play around with window size

OBSERVED RESULT

Firefox shows clear black line on the right at some size. You tube shows
shimmering lines on both sides at some size close to the native video width.
Chrome shows remaining of the cursor outline at the bottom when maximized.

EXPECTED RESULT

No artifacts present, like with no scaling applied.

Thank you for widget, Nate. Using it every day.

Before this feature would be released, if somebody has same trouble — I've
found temporary workaround.
After activating calculator widget with hotkey, user can simply press Tab key —
so widget getting focus on "C" button, and user can input any data. So, in my
case, I use combo "Win+K, Tab" and widget works as I'm expecting.

[dolphin] [Bug 481979] New: No audio and video play in information panel (After upgrade to qt6 and plasma6)

2024-02-28 Thread Alex Parker
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481979

Bug ID: 481979
   Summary: No audio and video play in information panel (After
upgrade to qt6 and plasma6)
Classification: Applications
   Product: dolphin
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: Neon

  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After yesterday big update to plasma6 there is no more audio and video play
preview at information panel.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Update to latest kde neon
2. Choose mp3 or mp4 file in Dolphin and try to click play button at info
side-panel
3. Nothing happens, and timeline control in preview area are grayed (like
«function inaccessible for now»)

EXPECTED RESULT
Play of audio/video file in small preview area in info panel.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma: Neon Latest
KDE Plasma Version: 6
KDE Frameworks Version: 6
Qt Version: 6

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
When start Dolphin from Konsole, I've got many lines of warnings like this:
```
kf.kio.core: An error occurred during write. The worker terminates now.
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin
could not be loaded
WARNING: bool Phonon::FactoryPrivate::createBackend() phonon backend plugin
WARNING: Phonon::createPath: Cannot connect  Phonon::MediaObject ( no
```
Those messages generated when I've clicked on audio or video files in
directory.

Before yesterday big update all worked fine. Maybe, during update, when
Discover audo-deleted 2-3 dozens of packages — it didn't install package or
plugin for this function of media-preview? Maybe I need to install something
else? I've installed manually `pkcon install phonon-backend-gstreamer` but
nothing changed, it didn't help.

[Spectacle] [Bug 480888] Area capture selector goes under the floating panel

There is something very odd happening: I've booted my existing F39 with 5.27.10
and spectacle 23.08.5-1.fc39 which we just got this week in Fedora testing and
the issue is there, however I've downgraded it to the previously available
23.08.1-1.fc39 and the issue didn't reproduce, I've upgraded the package back
and it was still working. I've rebooted afterwards and now it's not working
neither with old version, nor after kicking package version back and forth.
That's on my AMD Desktop system

Okay, never mind my GPU driver theory, probably it was an earlier build that
worked or something else was different. Here is it's also reproducible on a
desktop with AMD GPU. Given the early screenshot it wasn't visible that the
panel is different, maybe with later builds it became more apparent that there
is state change during the screenshot, basically area capture is treated as a
full screen app for a second.

The VM I use is qemu with kvm, llvmpipe for graphics. I have a feeling it has
something to do with the floating taskbar, it feel like it tries to defloat on
screenshot and maybe there is a race condition: screenshot rectangles gets
drawn, then the taskbar defloats and is drawn on top of that?

I can still reproduce this on the VM (Fedora 40 with Plasma 6 RC2), see
screenshot. I don't have it installed on my laptop with Intel graphics, so I
cannot double check there, I've tried live USB with same image on my AMD
GPU-based Desktop and the issue is not there, so I guess it depends on the gpu
driver in use.

This crash dump is from a session where I was changing return type of

Crash dump

SUMMARY
***

Some type of input from pyright appears to cause kate to segfault. I can't
unfortunately figure out which input exactly, but it does appear to be related
to using pyright as an LSP

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a large project (e.g charmcraft:
https://github.com/canonical/charmcraft) in Kate
2. Set pyright as your Python LSP:
```
"pyright": {
  "command": ["pyright-langserver", "--stdio"],
  "url": "https://github.com/Microsoft/pyright;,
  "highlightingModeRegex": "^Python$",
  "root": ".",
  "settings": {
"pyright": {
  "disableLanguageServices": false,
  "disableOrganizeImports": false,
  "disableTaggedHints": false
},
"python": {
  "analysis": {
"diagnosticMode": "workspace",
"logLevel": "Information",
"typeCheckingMode": "strict"
  },
  "pythonPath": ".venv/bin/python"
}
  }
}
```
3. In the Diagnostics tab, filter for LSP and only for errors.
4. Find some errors and start modifying code, using tab complete, etc.

OBSERVED RESULT

Segfault

It would be nice to be able to use multiple language servers for the same file
and specify precedence for running certain queries for those servers. This
would be especially useful where some language servers are preferred, but lack
the ability to handle certain request types.

[plasmashell] [Bug 481021] New: [Feature request] Automatic Dark Theme switcher

2024-02-07 Thread Gurenko Alex
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481021

Bug ID: 481021

  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: wishlist
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: agure...@protonmail.com
CC: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Target Milestone: 1.0

SUMMARY

I would like to propose a feature to automatically switch between Light and
Dark mode based on time conditions, similar to how Night Light is currently
implemented (sunset/sunrise at current/custom location, time based). Maybe
whole Dark mode can go into separate setting and then it can be exactly like
Night light, always on, always off (Light mode) + mentioned before.

I understand it requires ensuring the theme and all related components are
actually real time replaceable, but I think Plasma 6 did a lot to make it
happen (like cursor was not updated until reboot.)

Ideally it would be great to be able to have sets for Light and Dark mode:
Wallpapers, Cursors, Plasma Styles, Application Styles, Icons. Actually
probably everything from plasma global theme if it is to go the Plasma way.

This would probably require a separate tracking for Wallpaper to be more
user-friendly in regards to adding Light/Dark version than manipulating a file
system: like adding Add/Modify Light version and Add/Modify Dark version button
or something.

I've got to be honest, I loved how MacOS has 5 wallpapers that gradually go
from Very Light to Very Dark during the day, but that's probably for another
day.

I've tried to suffer through video conferencing with Firfox (and I'm saying

chrome consistently freezing, I've changed console logs in Chrome and it's
printing "invalid wl_root_id" messages... I guess, it's not plasma issue then

[Powerdevil] [Bug 480612] Battery status is all messed up after wake from sleep

2024-02-05 Thread Gurenko Alex
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=480612

--- Comment #6 from Gurenko Alex  ---
Just to close the loop on this one, indeed after upgrade to kernel
6.8.0-0.rc3.26.fc40.x86_64 the issue is resolved (at least to a reported
degree). Lockscreen shows now 100% charge upon wake, but after login the batter
reports correct status right away.

Visual Panel Glitches

SUMMARY
The "resizing" animation shown when the panel switches from "floating" to "bar"
experiences a number of visual/graphical issues and glitches.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open an application in windowed mode on a blank desktop; note that the panel
is "floating"
2. Resize the window to take up the entire screen (but not fullscreen so the
panel is still visible)
3. Notice that the panel animation going from "floating" to "bar" displays some
visual issues

OBSERVED RESULT
The "resizing" animation is not smooth and the panel either draws incorrectly
or flashes during resize

EXPECTED RESULT
The "resizing" animation should be smooth with no visual glitches

I am not sure if it is the same. I wouldn't want this bug to be closed if the
other only resolves issues caused by network mounts but problem with local
folders may persist.

This is the one that comes by default, I'm not sure if there are options now.
I'll try regular panel later and report back
