Hi,

Please accept my apologies for this out of bandwidth response.

Maybe "we" should abandon all the distributions that use 5.5 and go with
Fedora Rawhide? I'm sure that would get someone's attention. I use Fedora 23
and Rawhide (24) and don't seem to have these problems.

[kde] [Bug 360873] New: Konsole crash

2016-03-22 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=360873

Bug ID: 360873
   Summary: Konsole crash
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: unassigned-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: grgo...@yahoo.com

Application: kdeinit5 (15.12.1)

Qt Version: 5.5.1
Operating System: Linux 4.4.5-300.fc23.x86_64 x86_64
Distribution: "Fedora release 23 (Twenty Three)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: After a period of inactivity,
I returned to the monitor and attempted to switch to another, adjacent, virtual
desktop when this crash popup appeared.

- Unusual behavior I noticed: I have been having trouble with the whole
QT/KDE/PLASMA desktop. Spontaneous (to me) crashes, system freezes. KDE NEEDS
to be able to restart by itself or manually and reconnect with processes that
are already running. This crash has happened due to an earlier crash of
something. The desktop and all widgets have disappeared and the desktop
manager(?) that responds to keyboard interrupts and provides menues on the
background for the desktop has ceased functioning. I did a ctrl-f2 and then
restarted X (startx) and this desktop has been running for several days now. I
still see earlier processes from the earlier instance of the desktop but have,
apparently lost contact with them.

I must say that I'm REALY surprised that F23 made it to release when all these
KDE/PLASMA issues remain open. I just poked the desktop to get a menu and got
another drkonqi popup for an apparent crash. Same one as this one? Who knows?

- Custom settings of the application: It is unknown as to which settings are
"normal" and which ones are "different". I hide the task bar all the time. I
have two monitors but the laptop monitor is de-selected, current monitor is a
Samsung 29" TV.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

2016-03-07 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla

Bug ID: 360220
Summary: Crash while returning from monitor sleep mode
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.5.5
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

  Severity: crash

Qt Version: 5.5.1
Operating System: Linux 4.4.3-300.fc23.x86_64 x86_64
Distribution: "Fedora release 23 (Twenty Three)"

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: The screens were in standby(?)
mode due to inactivity. I moved the mouse to "wake" them up and this crash
happened. I had been running a script to compare files on two different disks
and removing equal files from the first disk. The font size on this pop up is
TOO SMALL for me to see/read well at all.

- Unusual behavior I noticed Nothing other than these crashes. This is the
second crash since I upgraded this system yesterday.:

- Custom settings of the application: I can think of NO settings that might
affect this situation.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

Bug ID: 359716
   Summary: Spontaneous Konsole crash
   Product: kde
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: I had just finished adding a
"default" Konsole profile and making changes.

- Unusual behavior I noticed: xpad had started. I did NOT start this! I don't
use it! Why is it here?

- Custom settings of the application: None that I'm aware of.

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

I have seen this problem in Fedora 22/23/24. When filling out fields presented
by Drkonqi, the fields are the same color as the background thereby making them
hard to find. Different shading would make them so much easier to see and use.

Reproducible: Always

[krunner] [Bug 358805] ksplashqml segfault

2016-02-02 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358805

This problem just happens during "normal" processing. I had just updated my
system and rebooted and issued a "startx" command to get the GUI up. It just
happens.

I do have 99+% of all the packages in "dnf group list" installed.

Can "we" instrument the crash somehow? Set a "trap" for the crash?

I'm all ears.

George...

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358805

Aleix,

I just verified that the problem still exists. It does.

This a Fedora 24 x86_64 system in a "VirtualBox VM". What I do is ssh into the
VM after boot. My default run level is 3 so I can do command like stuff and
start X if I need to.

>From the ssh session I can start "X" so I could do tracing or whatever and
capture the output to send you if you have things you want me to try.

Regards,

George...

gzip'd flat file with package groups install logic

After the install of F24 I run "dnf -y upgrade" and then this script and
reboot.

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:
I had just updated the system and rebooted and started "X". This limitation on
the amount of data that can be provided here is really stupid. I have a core
file and probably the output of gdb but HOW do I provide this? After the bug is
created? That would be a good idea but if this tool refuses to create a bug,
I'm stuck.

- What I was doing when the application crashed:
After starting X the KDE desktop appeared. This took quite a while to happen.
Two konsoles were automatically started with, I believe, 5 tabs each. They
appeared at the desired location, from a previous manual save, but never
appeared to complete init. There as no bash prompt. Tabs were NOT drawn. There
were no menu items listed at the top of a "normal" konsole. I poked the big X
at the far right hand side of the konsole widget and it went away. A minute
later, this drkonki dialog appeared.

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

The crash can be reproduced sometimes.

[kalarm] [Bug 358217] Occasional crash on startup

2016-01-22 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358217

David,

This may be a timing of processes problem. I guess that kalarm got a bad
address and tried to use it? Who provided the address?

I'll keep my eyes open and re-open if I see it again.

Thanks!

George...

[frameworks-kxmlgui] [Bug 346768] After login only one tab is present, when several tabs where opened before logout.

2016-01-19 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=346768

Hi,
John/everyone,

I have been thinking about this situation.

I have multiple Fedora systems (F22/23/24). Generally they seem to be working
ok now... more or less, including the Konsole and tabs problem.

As I visualize it, the developers add config items, remove config items, change
config items as they develop. Anything they don't hit directly would tend to
remain. After a while, the config(s) would tend to have stuff that's no longer
needed, wanted, or changed, or doesn't work any more as a result. I would like
to suggest some form of migration of config(s) be performed by the developers
in the install scripts (think rpmsave) to help eliminate the unused "stuff".
For example, my fedora 22 system with KDE, starts the apps that I have running
at the time of the save but it also starts things that ARE NOT REFERENCED by
the save of configuration process AND/OR are NOT even running... so they
remain. I don't know enough of the config process to isolate where the extra
apps/config items are located. I don't want to remove everything and re-config.

There's a kde-testing repo for Fedora systems but whoever builds/maintains
needs to rebuild the repo index or other files AFTER update so the repodata can
be syncronized. I wrote a bug on this...

Have you tried removing .config and .kde/share/apps/ ... Like what would happen
for a brand new user?

Good luck,

George...

[systemsettings] [Bug 358090] New: system settings crashed at exit

2016-01-16 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358090

Bug ID: 358090
Summary: system settings crashed at exit
   Product: systemsettings
   Version: 5.5.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Keywords: drkonqi
  Severity: crash
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: grgo...@yahoo.com

Application: systemsettings5 (5.5.3)

Qt Version: 5.6.0
Operating System: Linux 4.5.0-0.rc0.git1.1.fc24.x86_64 x86_64
Distribution (Platform): Fedora RPMs

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed: I had been changing various
KDE settings. Most appear to have worked. One has NOT worked. I want the
"Active Title bar" to be red with "Dark Grey" text. Neither has taken effect.

- Unusual behavior I noticed: There was no unusual behavior except that one or
two of the settings appears to have frozen the system for a couple of minutes.
Eventually, things broke loose. I exited system settings and got this crash.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

-- Backtrace:
Application: System Settings (systemsettings5), signal: Segmentation fault

[konsole] [Bug 357063] New konsole uses desktop for background; echoing command input/out NOT displaying

2015-12-23 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357063

I'm thinking that there is something not right with dual screen support. I have
a laptop screen as screen 1, screen 2 is a 27" Samsung. some commands (xv,
mplayer, Konsole edit settings) started in screen 2 display in screen 1 even
though screen 2 is set to primary.

As for the Konsole problem, it starts just right on the lhs screen. moving
"Konsole term" to the rhs screen remains fully functional.

I hope some of this helps. Fedora 22 x86_64

[konsole] [Bug 357063] New: New konsole uses desktop for background; echoing command input/out NOT displaying

2015-12-22 Thread George R . Goffe via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=357063

Bug ID: 357063
Summary: New konsole uses desktop for background; echoing
command input/out NOT displaying
   Product: konsole
   Version: 15.08.3
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: grave
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: konsole-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: grgo...@yahoo.com

I finally got around to rebooting after installing updates. This system is now
up to date according to DNF. Konsoles started via saved session display the KDE
startup screen and then freeze. They do seem to respond to ctrl-d and commands
seem to run but the normal echo of command output is missing. Konsoles started
via the desktop menu seem to just display the desktop background or parts of
this bug report screen as a background. Same behavior though. ctrl-d exits.

This bug also exists on bugzilla.redhat.com and is marked urgent, bug id:
1293236

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.problem applies to konsoles started from saved session or CLI type in
"konsole"
2.
3.

Actual Results:
konsole displays desktop image or image from where the mouse is located. echo
of command input/output does not ever appear. konsole does appear to respond to
commands though NO output is displayed.
