[plasmashell] [Bug 370992] New: Search is broken in Application Dashboard

2016-10-17 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=370992

Bug ID: 370992
Summary: Search is broken in Application Dashboard
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 5.7.5
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Application Launcher (Kickoff)
  Assignee: k...@davidedmundson.co.uk
  Reporter: sud...@sudhirkhanger.com
CC: plasma-b...@kde.org

When I search for a file in the AppDash it show me results of directories and
files that have never been opened. It would show me pretty random files say
from sdk folder which would typically contain like 10k text files but it never
shows me one file that I open everyday and is available in the recent document
history too.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a document which will probably get added in recent document
2. search for the document
3.

Actual Results:
The recent document or any useful document opened by a user are never shown in
the app dash search instead it shows random files from sdk folder or bookmarks.

Expected Results:
At least recent documents should get much more priority. Priority of files that
have never been opened should be severely reduced.

Please see the attached image. For example, I open the file Udacity Ap..
everyday. If you look for that file you won't find it in the search results
shown by AppDash.

Just like the regular task manager Icon only task manager should also sort
application alphabetically. It will be one less decision I will have to make
and also I can consistently say where an app icon will end up.

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
Applications icons are sorted manually

>From time to time when my system wakes up from screen off, and maybe from
suspend too, I am greeted with a blank/black screen with only mouse pointer. In
the middle sometimes it turns into input cursor. I can't enter anything or see
anything for that matter.

I can switch to another tty and restart sddm. Sometimes killing X won't work
and I will have to restart the system.

This is very unfortunate situation as this happen occasionally and I lose all
my unsaved data. It is impossible to work on a system that you are not sure if
will wake up from sleep.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Happens automatically when waking up from screen off.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
Blank screen with only mouse pointer. In the text input region it may change to
input prompt but no text can be entered.

What is the benefit of new instances of Spectacle on multiple PrtSc clicks? I
would hope multiple PrtSc clicks should only bring them to foreground.

Having 7 instances of Spectacle on a single screen doesn't make sense. Multiple
instances of Spectacle should be triggered when opened from app menu. PrtSc
should bring existing one to the foreground.

[plasmashell] [Bug 315488] icon-only task manager groups chrome/chromium web apps with chrome/chromium

2016-07-25 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315488

Hi Eike Hein,

In the old code of icon-only-task-manager there was code to show all windows of
an app. Is that same code still available in the newly rewritten icon-only-task
manager?

I will always have a few Chrome, Android Studio, and emulator windows. I find
it extremely annoying that I have to first click the group then click the
window. Or go through the filmsy animations.

So if that code is still available then I would like to learn a little bit
QML/C++ or whatever language it is written it and enable it for my personal
use. I want to disable all grouping in icon-only-task-manager similar to how it
is the regular task-manager widget.

If you could guide me where to look, I would be very grateful for that.

[krunner] [Bug 359982] KRunner only shows an item from history instead of all resolving all queries

2016-07-04 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359982

Another thing I noticed is when you first start typing the very first and only
result you are shown is probably the last used applications.

So If I opened KTorrent last time and I enter k in KRunner I am shown only a
singly entry that is KTorrent. A better way would be to show history + rest of
the searchable item. So it goes like following.

k - last search app ktorrent in my case.
k+o - konsole
k+o+n - konsole
k+o+n + t - kontact

I would think that the easiest UI for users is going to be first showing items
from history and then rest of the items that match that query.

I wonder why we only show either history or searchable items. Why not show them
all? First history items and then searchable items in the KRunner list.

We name everything with a k and often several apps have 3 common letters if not
more like kontact, konsole, konversation, etc. If you are only shown history
then the minimum query required to resolve kont is 4.

applet
   Product: plasma-nm
   Version: 5.6.4
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: wishlist

Disconnected and Airplane mode both of them are represented by a red computer
icon in the system tray. It would be great if Airplane mode is represented by a
white airplane icon like the airplane mode checkbox in the detailed view of the
network manager applet

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Enable airplane mode in network manager applet
2.
3.

Actual Results:
airplane mode is represented by a red computer icon similar to disconnected
mode

Expected Results:
White airplane icon for airplane mode

White Airplane icon already exist in the detailed view of network manager icon

[plasmashell] [Bug 362657] Device Notifier stealing keyboard focus when notification is displayed.

Tim LePés you are not the only one with a faulty usb device. KDE doesn't have
to bombard you with pop-ups because you have faulty usb derive. I regularly
connect/disconnect my Android phone several times in a hour for my Android dev
work that doesn't mean I want to see usb connected pop-up 10-20 times a day.
Maybe a non-persistent notification which goes away in a few seconds would
suffice.

[kmail2] [Bug 316107] big regression: kmail IMAP connection and message display problems

2016-05-27 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla

Hi Martin,

I will have to wait 2 more months to get the upstream supported KDEPIM+Akonadi
(15.12+) version. I will report back if I have any issues with them.

I am curious if you could shed some light on it. Zoho tells me KMail is making
more than 20 simultaneous connections to their server. I am watching the imap
traffic using the command you provided `watch -n1 "netstat -tanp | grep imap`.
I only see the following 4 lines. That's the maximum I have seen

tcp0 0 192.168.1.33:45940 155.97.137.30:993 ESTABLISHED
2117/akonadi_imap_r
tcp0 0 192.168.1.33:38574 165.254.168.191:993 ESTABLISHED
2114/akonadi_imap_r
tcp0 0 192.168.1.33:44000 155.97.137.30:993 ESTABLISHED
2117/akonadi_imap_r
tcp0 69 192.168.1.33:40884 165.254.168.191:993 ESTABLISHED
2114/akonadi_imap_r

Looking up these IP addresses I see two of these are from a working email
server. No problem there. The rest two are connecting to Zoho servers. I don't
see 20 entries. Will I see 20 entries if KMail were making 20 simultaneous
connections?

Yes the space between the top and menu widget. So far random things like
opening a chrome window or closing Emacs window would insert the space. The
space goes away either automatically or with a click here and there.

even when you remove the external device. I have to click at least twice

I think you have to force system tray refresh for Device notification widget to
work properly.

I think this might be a design choice. Plasma triggers the device notifier
which triggers another design paradigm of keeping widgets open unless they are
forcibly closed by the user.

You or system opens a widget and it won't close on its own even if it has
fulfilled its purpose. Clipboard manager also suffers from it.

There should be an easier way to close open widgets like hitting Esc should
close the widget and bring back focus to the thing a user were already doing.

With all due respect I am not convinced that your statement has any backings
other than your personal feelings. Android with its massive user penetration
also has exactly the same behavior. When you take snapshot it places a
notification in the notification drawer which has to be dismissed by user.
Without this notification a user has to go at great lengths to open file
manager and navigate to the folder which contains the screenshot.

I have noticed it several times that my system won't go into any of the power
states like suspend or hibernate according to the rules set in Power management
settings. The battery icon will be stuck in ac-plugged in state where as on
expanding it, it would show the battery is discharging.

This is very bad because system will eventually shut down and I will lose all
my work.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Actual Results:
Power management settings are ignored. System doesn't go into suspend or
hibernate as per power management settings. Battery icon shows charging where
as on expanding it shows discharging.

System suspends and hibernates fine via Plasma menu options or via systemctl
but not automatically as per power management settings.

Just to clarify myself I would like to see following changes.

1. Notification is more descriptive. For example, "Active window screenshot was
captured and saved to xyz/folder."
2. Bubble notification has a button to open the screenshot.
3. The notification stays in the Status & Notifications unless dismissed.

2016-03-26 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=315488

Just wanted to say that even at the cost of showing identical icons and no way
of distinguishing among windows I would really like to see grouping disabled
similar to task manager. First open preview and then pick a window really takes
a toll on fastly moving among windows. People can make their choice even if it
is not the best option.

PS:- Is there a Chrome bug filed so this gets fixed eventually? I will read
this thread over, to my best understanding, and file one if it is not.

[krunner] [Bug 359982] KRunner only shows an item from history instead of all resolving all queries

2016-03-07 Thread Sudhir Khanger via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359982

Top rows should always be occupied by the most accessed items otherwise
accessing most frequent tasks require (steps required in accessing most
frequent task + X steps).

Current number of steps to do most frequent task = steps required in accessing
most frequent task + X steps

What it should be = steps required in accessing most frequent task.

For example, if I want to search "killall -s SIGSEVG plasmashell" but KRunner
shows "killall ksuperkey." Here I have to type full word killall, space and
dash sign. So total of 8 keywords are required to run the former command.

If KRunner showed both commands as soon as I entered k then 1 click for k and 1
click for down-arrow. Total 2 steps.

Thank you for taking time to look into it Kai.

Kai you are miunderstanding. I DIDN'T enter "killall ksuperkey" I started
entering one letter at a time and at kil it responded with "killall ksuperkey".
Whereas as soon as I entered k it should have shown all the previous items that
started with k. As a matter of fact there are several killall items in my
history which should have been shown.
